I Won’t Go Back to My Family Who Abandoned Me

Description

Everywhere Leticia went, she was compared to her siblings.
Sadly, it was all too common.

She was not as pretty as her second sister Diana,
nor as smart as her third brother Emil,
nor as good with a sword as her fourth brother Xavier,
nor as talented with magic as her youngest sister Irene. However, she was never jealous or envious of her siblings.

In fact, she was proud of them. And yet, she never knew that her family was ashamed of her. Until the moment her family abandoned her.

The dynamics are very weak and the story ist written poorly. The actions kept repeating and it was very boring. Cant believe how I managed to read till the end... took me a while to finish it though. Be ready to read „Leticia bit her lip without realizing it“ and „Leticia held the hymn of her dress tightly“ at least 20 times. Also the romance was indeed cute but far from good. This read was definitely a waste of time, I don’t recommend!

I would say this book perfectly fits with 3 stars, it doesn't have any glaring issues or that bad of a plot line but there are times where the plot is uninteresting and repetitive. Just to clarify, the story is not bad... Most of my review from this point onward is going to be complaining about it but that's simply because its a lot easier to point out issues with a story and none of the issues I'm pointing out actually affect the book much. I believe the story would... more>> be better if these issues were fixed but the story is not bad even with these issues.

Now onto the issues I had with this book, first of all the romance itself is kind of stale... they do get closer and develop but its never in a way that makes me emotionally involved with the events, its hard to describe but while their romance works perfectly fine it lacked that feeling that you get when reading of wanting the couple to get together. Now onto the main plotholes with the story, and for these I'm only going to complain about the two major ones (And by major issues these are things I think are very off with the world building but they don't actually affect the story much so while I am complaining about them and believe they make the story worse it shouldn't be a reason why someone shouldn't try the book)

Spoiler

So first when the bio-father learns that her ability is luck and tries to get her back into the family. At one point in the story he sends people to kidnap her who were apparently strong enough to knock out her guards and she was only saved because Kenna happened to be there. Now, this issue alone has the major issue of absolutely nothing came from it. At the very least we should of gotten something like a report that the investigation came up with nothing and that she has more guards posted around her but it was instantly dropped like getting attacked didn't matter (Probably because the author wasn't planning on having it happen again they forgot how people would react to this occurrence) but my big issue with this was at a later point in time her father meets with her in public and due to the eyes watching them (Since they are in public) she went with him to a private location. This is one of the major problems with this series, this author isn't creating a realistic environment. The female lead continues to go out in public alone, walk at night, ect. despite the fact that we have been shown that violence and crime exists in this world. At this point in the story she fully knows her father is a piece of shit, she knows that he sent people after her, yet she decides to go to a private location with him (If I remember correctly it was a cafe) to talk. This man has already shown how low he can go so why aren't you assuming he might spike your drink and take you while pretending to take care of you... I think the issue is since the author knows that he wants "Meet in public -> He blackmails her -> She hates him more" they forget about how unrealistic and s*upid it is to interact with such a person... There are a lot of events in this story where the world building is just subpar because the author is making it work for whatever plot line they work rather than making their plotline work with the world building. An example off the top of my head is how her bio-brothers essentially forcibly broke into their house and wouldn't leave when requested and yet the entirety of punishment for this event was the bio-father having to apologize... There should be a lot bigger ramifications even if its just something like public opinion of those two being extremely negative...

Now this leads to my second big issue with this book which continues with what I was saying before, the world building is inconsistent. Kenna's family was framed for raising an army in secret and as a result everyone except for her were killed... Kenna herself if caught would be severely punished if not executed (The author never really goes into what the punishment is but due to Kenna's immense grudge against bio-father and how she isn't living with them after exile I think its safe to infer that they have been executed) and this is where a major plot hole is created in my opinion. The crime of raising an army against the emperor is a complete execution for the family yet when it gets released that the bio-father framed a long standing and loyal family for this crime the only punishment he receives is an exile with his family... The imbalance between the punishments is completely unreal and the part that really pisses me off is how the author plays it off as if this exile solved all of the problems... There are a lot of dark undertones in this story like kenna's family yet the author seems to hesitate to actually put these into words... The fact that kenna is suppose to be satisfied with this shitty punishment is just unrealistic, her grudge as we have seen is very deep... she would track him down after he left the country and kill him with her own hands or ruin everything and make him starve to death. It just overall feels like the author is trying to paint a happy world while accidently adding undertones like ab*se and execution into the story since they are coinvent for the plot at the time. I'm very big on world building and consistency so while this is honestly very minor thing when reading its something that makes me dislike the story so I am biased but it feels to me like sloppy writing... The author subconsciously has a double standard... raising an army and forging an empirical verdict based on this timeline should result in the same punishment, execution. In order to maintain power rulers will shut down all forms of rebellion, the reason why they wouldn't be exiled is because that isn't a bad enough punishment... People might hesitate to forge an order that would benefit them if their entire family along with themselves would be executed for it but a simple exile would make these people prepare if they did get exiled and then commit the crime. In this case it would be an even harsher punishment due to the lose of a loyal family with a lot of history, its just an unrealistic punishment in terms of world building just because the author doesn't want the bio-family to be executed, they wanted it to be them suffering on a farm in another country... I went on a bit of a tangent but my overall point is the world building feels inconsistent and forced, its unnatural and changes based on the whims of the author... Things like how there is basically no difference between aristocrats and commoners except for one rules over territory (Book doesn't get into specifics) but there is plenty of interaction of elle making jewelry or female lead selling cookies yet then the author adds the line diana said about how she would execute kenna (Who she believed to be a commoner) for speaking back to her... The rules and design of the world are not consistent and while it doesn't change much with the main story itself this is just something I really hate when authors mess up. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

This is one of my favorites! It's a very sweet found-family story. I'd say the FL might come across as kind of an airhead at because she's very gentle and good-natured, but she's not genuinely naive. She sees through people's motivations almost from the start, stands up for herself progressively more as the story goes on, and does not forgive her birth family in the end. "Kindness is not the same as weakness" is a major theme in this story. She pursues her own ambitions and happiness instead of actively... more>> pursuing revenge against the birth family. When they try to sabotage her future instead of letting her go and leaving her in peace, she exposes their crimes and then just stands back to let all the natural consequences of their own choices come crashing down on them. "Kindness is not the same as weakness" is a major theme in this story. There are also a lot of really sweet moments with her new families that she chose, and it's gratifying when they all treat with actual love and respect. Honestly, I loved it. <<less

the story feels painful like its trying to force the outcome/ set up. an example is the ml.

Spoiler

... some parts feel forced in a way that I can only describe as just feeling bad to read. I don mean this as in the writing being bad, I mean it as the situation being painful to witness if that makes sense. the main one for me is levion because his point of view is shown and you can see he isn really bad, more like inaction to a fault. I think it would be better if his character was committed more to either good or bad (subjectively ofc) so that it would feel better to like or dislike him. as it stands, he didn wan to end the engagement. their relationship further falling apart because of a misunderstanding caused by diana would have been fine. if he didn ask why "leticia sent diana to wish him luck as she wouldn be there and why she was there giving a golden band to another guy" and she didn deny it. the worst part is when he shows up at enoch's house to get leticia. the story acts as though he is in the wrong for looking for and going to get his fiance (who he cares about) who is staying in another guy's house....

I can't say I hated it. It was... interesting?

Anyway, to quickly sum up my thoughts:

The MC is airheaded...I swear she spaces out a lot. But she grew a backbone.

... more>> The ML is super supportive, so expect plenty of fluff.

The family are a$$holes. Except the youngest after awhile, I wanted more of her story.

The drama was ok. The story was a bit boring. The author often added scenes and dialogue that seem pointless. And I found myself wondering how many times the MC needed to "find herself". And why the hell was there a proposal if they were already engaged?! And why are there no ages mentioned in this story?! And WHY do I feel like some of the side characters were more interesting than the MC (Keena! Irene!) ?! And why... forget it.

At least I'm glad there was a resolution with her crooked family. <<less

This was such a lovely little story and I'm actually a little sad it's over. If you want a sweet and fluffy little love story then look no further. It's not the most amazing story I've ever read with a a little bit of pacing problems, the ending was really rushed, and there are quite a few loose ends that were just left dangling; However, I really enjoyed it and always looked forward to the updates. It's just a cute love story with the tension coming mostly from her family.... more>> It's a quick read and the translation is well done so if you are looking for something light and fun I definitely recommend it. <<less

A story of a girl healing from her tr*sh family while karma comes to give them their just rewards. Great concept but the writing is rather weak and the MC comes across as a non-entity who goes from depressed to ignoring her family completely.

The MC is a young woman who has the invisible ability of Luck. Those she likes will have good luck while those who make her upset or angry will have bad luck. She can also bless others (such as telling someone that she hopes money will fall... more>> out of the sky for them and they find a bunch of money). She's rather bland as it seems her personality was mainly "love my family" despite them treating her like she's less than dirt. Her personality does develop a little as the story goes on but it's still not very distinct other than her moving on from being unloved.

Spoiler

Her power is rather terrifying if you think about it. She suggests different things to people for them to try (it's implied she did it with her siblings as well as her then-fiance) and it resulted in them figuring out their ability. She even healed her mother and adopted mother which allowed them to have more children.

There is also the incident where she wishes it would rain in the ML's territory so it does (coincidentally, this is kind of the turning point for her to believe in her ability).

That being said, she would have made a great super villain.

[collapse]

The ML is a young duke who has a family rife with misfortune but he is determined to make a better life for himself and his siblings. He meets the MC and initially just wants to be a sanctuary for her as he does not believe anyone should be treated the way she has been. Gradually he falls in love with her because he views her as his lucky charm. Whether this is because he realized her ability or not is never clarified but he does state he knows it later.

The MC's family all have abilities but her father has always believed that it was his second daughter that brought luck to the family (as everything appeared to improve since her birth). Shortly after the story starts, this 2nd eldest helps arrange things to get the MC kicked out of the family. From there, the MC goes through a rapid progression from grief to depression to happiness as she finds a new family in the ML's family.

Karma almost immediately kicks in. The ML's family's luck improves while everything begins to go wrong for the MC's family. It was entertaining to read at first but then it just became a little uninteresting as we had to read it for three different siblings while the main antagonistic sibling was pretty much left as is. Then the add-on of the mini-plot of the King/Emperor wanting to marry the MC to the Crown Prince was also kind of like checking off the box for cliche story plots.

Spoiler

Third kid loses his smarts, fourth kid loses his swordsmanship and the fifth kid loses her ability to do magic.

All while the second kid still runs around believing she's the best thing since sliced bread. Considering her power is only to shower flower petals around (I laughed) but she's always believed she's the lucky charm of the family. Once things go south, she's pretty much just treated like how the MC was treated and reacts by praying to god for them to remove her sibling's powers.

Also, the father's ability was hilarious. He grows weeds.

The King's attempt at forcing the MC to marry his son ended up in stereotypical fashion. Misfortune fell on his palace because she was unhappy about his attempts at setting them up together. She was also completely unaware that she was causing the misfortune as it avoided her. The misfortune? A horde of rats. They went away as soon as the King apologized to her and then promised her a gift when she married the ML.

[collapse]

Over all, it's a fairly straight-forward story with the very typical cliches. The writing is kind of not-good so there are points that are hard to follow due to not being able to tell who is doing the action or writing (this is further complicated with a seemingly close to MTL translation). It's just not interesting enough to hold the attention for long but at least it's not overly long. <<less

I tend to love novels about misunderstood women finding their happiness & cutting off their crap family so I was very upset to find that this has all the right ingredients but the author is a bad cook.

As others have said almost all of the characters have little to no substance and are cartoonishly evil. The female lead is outrageously passive and her power of good luck seems truly unfeasible with all the bad things that constantly happen to her... and I do mean constantly.

As soon as her good luck... more>> comes through and fixes whatever problem is vexing her, another larger problem rushes in that needs to be fixed. Rinse and repeat over and over again to the very end.

Really though I found the MC to be pretty hypocritical. Her attitude towards Keena actually really pissed me off. The MC seemed convinced if everyone wasn't as perfectly kind and blunt as herself then they must be bad, which is odd considering how much she doted on her abusive family and jerk ex fiance.

To be honest half the story didn't make sense and the other half seemed to be written by a very emotional 12 year old wanting to vent about their lack of familial attention by writing a story. I found myself wanting to skip through the pages a lot. <<less

I skip most of the story. It's okay. I love the chemistry between ML and FL but it's not enough to keep me reading until the end. It's not entertained me well enough.

But I love how the unmarried noble woman and man can stay under the same roof.

Keep out The unnecessary details.

Hopefully I will read until the end one day

I love how petty everyone is in this. Also why do people think it bad because you can predict what's going to happen. That's the WHOLE D*MN POINT OF FORESHADOWING. It's realistic, if you have a conflict irl, your best bet is to be petty. And keep in mind both MC and ML are SOCIALLY INEPT. The novel says ML is to poor to have a succession ceremony. And MC is fully isolated and has one friend, her maid. This is a very realistic story of two socially inept beans... more>> who love each other. <<less

Irritating, I took a break for a bit but when I restarted I couldn't even finish the chapter. It's a novel that lacks too much common sense. And Letitcia 'brilliant' idea of putting messages in cookies irked me a lot, because that's just stealing. And not even stealing well, she sell them at the town centre, not even catered.

I really like this so far! The FL is a really realistic depiction of a strong person who's suffered through but fought her way out of an abusive home. The ab*se is really realistic and gives the reader sympathy and understanding for FL's siblings too, instead of those dogblood novels where everyone who's ever wronged the MC is an irredeemable monster. I've seen some comments about how the main romance is boring, but personally I think the main relationship is the perfect kind of relationship for ML and FL. It's... more>> comfortable, with no guessing games and will-they-won't-they type drama. They support each other and help make each other better. <<less

The translation for this is pretty bad. I would guess direct MTL. Also the writing is a bit too silly. In the first two chapters we have been told about 20 separate times her family doesn't approve of of the ML because she doesn't have an ability. I get it, stop with the repetition.

Tbh I'm not used to writing reviews before the novel is actually finished, but I just wanted to say that this is the first time I'm not interested in the MC's romance. At all. I always skipped the part where there were only Leticia and Enoch. Sorry, it's just... it looks boring to me.

I'm much more interested in what will happen to the Leroy family, especially after they all realize Leticia's true ability, I'm sure it will be a lot of fun hehe. Aahh I can't wait for the next... more>> chapter! <<less

Anyway, I like it when 'after story' is labeled as such. The last 8-9 chps were after story if you were curious. I thought we'd get a POV from the ML in the after story, but no. I did like how the end previews many supporting characters' possible future endeavors/romances. That was cute.

After reading some other reviewers' flaws, I'm surprised in how interested I was in the story. Maybe I just wanted to finish it quickly, but it really kept my attention. <<less

I have read the after story.

I do hope they make a sequel of the younger sister Irene so that we can have her reunite with the MC of this story.

She isnt a evil person like the other family members, She was a child and she also had no choice. Very Old School Disney Themed.

It was surprisingly more pleasant to read as it neared the end, and the Disney theme bad ending for the villains, happy ending for the protagonists, and redemption for the repenting morally grey characters was so good. It is difficult to find that old school sort of justice served plot line. And I laughed a ton, when I found out Marquess Leroy was just good old weed fertiliser.

The romance was a little difficult to read, and so was the writing itself, too many things happening between... more>> the lines. Another thing what is with all hanging plots and potholes... like gimme a concrete ending do Elle and the crown prince storyline man!

This is a cute and fluffy story focussing on the importance of appreciating the things you have in your life as well as found family. Although it often suffered a bit from repetitiveness and weird pacing, I still enjoyed it very much. I appreciated that the FL was gentle natured but still with a core of steel.
