After transmigrating, he realizes he’s become the foolish villain sect master in a xuanhuan novel. The disciple he’s cherished like a daughter betrays him for the male lead—over a chicken leg, no less. For the sake of love, she turns on her master, and together with the protagonist, destroys the sect and kills him.

Faced with her betrayal, the sect master responds coldly:

“In that case, return the Supreme Bone the sect bestowed upon you. Men, dig it out!”

This is pretty average stuff.

I think the original protag would've been more interesting if he was far less actively malicious. Making him a little more clueless about his fortune would have made this something with actual narrative weight. The original story would have been about a cunning backbiting man willing to go to any lengths to achieve his ends. Not exactly a hero story.

As for the review that claims the MC is a weird incel, I don't see it. The first harem member is shown to be lazy and s*upid... more>> (because she was spoiled rotten and fell for the MC's nice guy act), the second was naive and prideful (who also fell for his nice guy with a powerful backer act). I'm assuming they were referring to the second one, as she was something of a victim. However he only treats her so harshly because she attacked him, (fully intending to defend the guy she has know for only days,) in the hopes that the old protag dropping her would wake her up.

Spoiler

He breaks her cultivation. At this point we do not know if that's a fate worse than death, or more like an injury (usually it's somewhere in the middle, forcing them to restart from scratch). The MC also finds it strange he is finding joy in teaching her such a harsh lesson, setting up the plot point that he is being pushed by the heavenly will to become more of a villain to the Old protag's hero. If that's the direction it goes it might actually be worth continuing.

Update as of ch 30. Destroying cultivation isn't even a major injury. It's treated like a minor one, not even worth mentioning outside a 'cultivate to recover'. The MC basically slapped her in an attempt to wake her up.

[collapse]

I'm going to keep reading for now. If the author pulls this in a more meta, resisting fate direction it could actually end up okay. The other way is to go full parody, but at this point that's not seeming likely. <<less

Started a little interesting, but it gets really dumb really quick. So the premise is that our MC is a villain going up against the original story's hero. And that the hero is protected by super plot armor. The MC knowing he can't kill the hero outright plans to basically strip the hero of all the things that made him formidable in the original story. I'm onboard... but the problem is, the original story makes no sense. The original hero is an absolute piece of garbage. Like, there's no way... more>> any sane person would buy that guy being the hero of the original version of the story. He's a selfish conniving petty punk who immediately abandons anyone not useful to him. And our MC has no reason to act like a villain. Everyone with half a brain should be able to tell what kind of person the original hero is. But they try to explain it away with divine intervention. But for some reason the MC just has to point out the obvious and other characters suddenly become capable of seeing just how terrible the old hero is.

Also, the author goes out of their way to explain that the old hero is a harem protagonist and women just fall for him immediately and inexplicably, as if they have no control over their lives. But then isn't above destroying those women and looking down on them as if it's their fault they've fallen for him, which gives this some real weird incel vibes. Like the old hero takes advantage of women and then the MC comes along and blames the women for being taken advantage of. It's kinda gross. <<less

Not your usual villain? But your ordinary chinese protagonist, which for the 100000th time reincarnates as sect leader and have harem... Start of the novel is truly convenient for MC and opposing characters are conveniently disgusting, in order to make you feel good that MC punished them. But the way it portrayed is simply childish

Anyway... You might ejoy this novel, if you like strong protag which face slaps and knows EVERYTHING. I also can commend translator for some explanations at the bottom, for some terms. But this novel simply that... more>> bad

But it's just your usual xinxia or xuanhuan novel, with people lacking IQ, jade beauties and etc. Writing isn't great and characters are one dimensional. I dont even talk about plot incosistency, with MC remembering traitorous disciple who still posses ultimate bone, killing him and yada yada, but later it was told that bone would go to "original protag". Absolutely won't recommend it <<less
