This series is great, basically just pure wish fulfilment, childish person get the power to change his life and he takes it (while stopping to step on anyone who offends him on his way up). The people who keep saying "OMG he is so racist" are just bleeding hearts. It's only on the level of jokes and descrimination that most of the world has against Americans, nothing too offensive, it's even funny at times.

The only thing is that even though it's set in modern day China people act like it's... more>> some xanxia/wuxia novel and are either good hearted simple folk or 100% self centred corrupt losers. Not much in between. If China was this overtly corrupt in reality it would have fallen appart years ago, completely unrealistic. <<less

Welp the story follow the partern of a xianxia novel (without immortals though) but happens in an alternate modern world. It's pretty funny but it still has the flaws of a typical xianxia (side-characters = filler characters) but that's still not that much of a problem because it's not that unusual in chinese web novel, but I think is the worst in this novel (though may sayit gives ZY more personality) is his ULTRA-Nationalism, it's so f*cking annoying when the author build an arc around dissing some foreigner (especially Korean,... more>> if you dislike them IRAS is for you) and shouting to everybody how great China is! I mean I've nothing against a bit of it but when it is that much it just makes me cringe... Plus, I find it funny (in a bad way here) when in an arc, ZY telles us how great his China is for 3 chapters straight and in the next arc, he get mad at the Institutions of his own country for being shit... Welp overhaul the story was that funny hence the 4/5 <<less

So I'm going to be honest, there is a lot of racism in this novel but unfortunately many modern Chinese novels will have that so you can't avoid it. But if your able to get past all of that there's a treasure of a read here. It has a lot of comedy and satisfying moments along witch makes it a very fun novel to read. There's a little bit of harassment in the novel but its in the earlier chapters and it hasn't happen in almost 300ish chapters. (As another... more>> note I'm Korean and I can enjoy this novel, the secret, just skip the racist paragraphs, works moderately well). <<less

WHAT A GREAT! GREAT story, especially if you like me... LOVE WORDS... BEAUTIFUL WORDS.

Legge and CKtalon did this masterpiece a superb job, their translation and editing workflow so smooth that you can see the glory of each poem & understand it so much you can't help but feeling awe. I always know that China literature is amazing but since the Chinese language is so hard not many know it's greatness. And the nationalist side of the MC, I guess it will be a put off for some readers.

But read the... more>> book first, you'll fall into it just like me (btw those poems/passages are great to overcome writers' block). If ever they make a drama version of this, only one actor in my mind can cover Zhang Ye's petty but charismatic character---side eyeing Hu Ge hard. <<less

Excruciatingly cringey at best, deeply offensive and hurtful at worst. Beyond the MCs obvious lack of morals and disgusting behaviour and attitude, it's just a boring story filled with sexism and nationalism with no depth of any kind. You can't even say it's entertaining, the highlight of these kinds of novels, the 'altercation' scenes, are lame and forced.

I love this novel so far. Sure, the MC Zhang Ye is an extreme nationalist (sometimes bordering on racist), but he is also rather relatable. He is rather average looking, not very rich, he isn't some kind of genius (at least at the beginning of the novel) and like Zhang Ye nearly everyone has wanted to be famous at some point of their lives and like him most people would also choose to plagiarize the works of famous authors, directors, musicians etc. That don't exist in the new world if... more>> they found themselves in the same situation as Zhang Ye.

Sure sometime you have to suspend your disbelief, since it's rather hard to believe that peopble are really going to be as exited for poems as they are in this novel, but a certain level of suspension of disbelief is required for nearly all webnovels (Chinese or otherwise).

I also greatly enjoy the fact that IRAS is introducing me to various popular Chinese novels, poems, songs, etc. That I would've likely never known about if not for IRAS.

At this point I also have to praise the translators, who do their best to keep up a high translation speed and quality, despite how hard it can be to translate chinese poems and songs without completely losing their message and flow.

Sure sometimes a few grammatical and spelling errors sneak in, though I think that can be forgiven, since it happens to nearly all translators, even professional ones.

Overall I have to give the novel a 5/5, as it's one of the few Chinese webnovels that always have me looking forward to the next chapter. <<less

Okay, let's say it without sugarcoating anything, this wasn't the best WN I've ever read but this was definitely the one I enjoy the most.

There were flaws here and there, but I've never expected anything to be perfect, so that was cool with me.

The only thing I couldn't stomach was the patriotism of the MC which borderline with racism.

Some people said the MC was dumb as hell since he kept offending people in every field he entered, but for me it was just an inherent trait that separated him from other people. He had this mentality where he would treat you the same as you treated him. It could get exasperating sometimes. And yes, the conflicts in this novel escalated faster than you could spell fast, but they were also the charms that made me wanted to read more.

This was a story which glorified the MC, the MC who wouldn't bear with the slightest grievance, the humor would make you crave for more, and sometimes the absurdity would kill your braincells.

Was it worth reading? For me, hell yeah it was. <<less

Hum.. This is a good read for those with xianxia's face smaking fetish and able to tolerate racism, which is already at the extreme stage, especially at the latest chapters (Peking University Accident Arc).

In the end, this is really good, absolutely amazing novel if you skip the extreme bashing and racism. Personally I think Crosstalk Competition Arc is the best so far, I can't stop laughing. It would be a great if ZY stop using such crude bashing talk, and use sarcastic joke instead. I am sure he'll become more... more>> likeable. <<less

The beginning is seriously promising and entertaining. Moving on the story, the plot becomes repetitive and boring.

The MC is somewhat likeable in the beginning but later becomes so unbearable. I wonder if the author is on drugs or anything? The MC is nothing more than an embodiment of what the authors wants to be. In other word, self -fulfilment. In this novel, The MC is the best, the MC is the majesty. You can never slight the MC. Side characters are forgettable as they are only there to glorify the... more>> MC.

Not to mention, the repetitive plots. Oh boy. Almost to the extent it is predictable.

Plot armors. Don't get me start with this. The MC himself is omnipotent so do not expect him to face any loss. Even when he is despised, insulted he would get back on them thousandfolds. Well, this might also be one of its good point

Aside from that, the biggest concern, theme that made me drop this novel is the racism. To me, it is fine to be nationalistic but the author's depictions on the other countries show how racist he is. While it is okay when the novel is read by chinese themselves, but others, including me would feel uncomfortable reading it.

It is harem but is is the bad type of harem in which the MC is the pe*vert and non-decisive type of MC. So do not expect romance as the MC is a h**ny pre adult. On the bright side, it is definitely better than AST and ATG.

You may either love it or hate. But to me, this might be in the list of my most disliked novels. <<less

The story is about a guy who world-hopped and now wants to become the world's greatest superstar. After world-hopping, however, he can now create a near-endless supply of popular content by plagiarizing from his past world (which is our world).

The story has amazing humor and extremely satisfying face-slapping, and has a completely different feel from the combat-oriented genres usually perused by translations readers.

It's a really special novel! There aren't novels like IRS. The protagonist has a particular personality and he can take advantage of every situation to obtain more fame. The novel includes different things: humour, chinese culture (specially the literature), rebellion: we see how a young man can progress in a world where everyone opposes him because he's different, he's better, he's "talent". It makes me laugh to think that everyone thinks that zhang ye is a genius when he's just an expert PIRATE at the same level of luffy ahahahah... more>> I really love him when he surprises everytime someone expect him to be unable to do something. I' m looking forward to see how he will conquer the hearts of people in order to become a " REALLY SUPERSTAR". <<less

Hello,

this Novel is a pretty decent one with good and bad things. Some of the bad things are really being amplified by some people for nothing.

1) the MC is racist, well for now he hasn't shown anything going overboard :

Spoiler Ch.230 :

Spoiler

The Korean author says that the MC is a good for nothing and is just reading a script. Then there is a black person in the audience who come to criticize the MC, it's normal to counterattack. About the jokes about the Koreans (about kimchi for example) , a lot of people in every country do that about other countries (Americans who jokes about english people - english people about the french ones and their eating habits - french and the "belgians jokes" - the different countries who makes jokes about americans all being fat and in overweight because they eat burgers). You can see such jokes everywhere and it is not really a problem for anyone. So if the MC got critized by a korean, he took the occasion to make joke about them and take revenge at the same time

[collapse]

Spoiler Ch.380 to 400 :

Spoiler

About the second times with Lee Anson, this singer deserve what happened to him, he goes in a country in their festival and take the places of 2 peoples which are from the country (That's OK) , He doesn't speak a word of their language and does "Lip sync" on the stage (let's say it's still OK) , after that when he leaves he doesn't show any respect to his fans, one of his bodyguards hurt one of his fans who has been waiting in the cold for hours and he doesn't even apologise to her (This is not OK, and even less if you count the previous things) . So the MC kicked him, he was right to do so

[collapse]

.

2) The MC is a plagiarist, yes he is, so what ?

He just do what he has to and he is right to do it. When you've got intel, it's normal to use it if you can. And since the original authors doesn't exists in his world, it doesn't hurt anyone.

Also he buy these memories with the "reputation points" so you can count it as buying the copyright with reputation points.

Fianlly, even if you had all the knowledge in the world, if you can't use it in the right circonstances at the good place and time, it's completely useless. That's the MC skill, he use the right words at the right time and place.

3) The MC is a rapist, that's a bit too much, It would be more appropriate to say he is a little pe*verted.

He doesn't really force himself on any woman and is still a virg*n.

When he touched the landlord lady, she was the one who agreed for him to come in her bedroom and in her bed, she also allowed him to touch her and she only decided to punch him when he went a little overboard and she faked that she wasn't aware it was him touching her.

But she still invited him in her house->Bedroom->bed afterward and she allowed him to have a little bit more fun with her.

So even if the MC is a little pe*verted, she is not really better since she allowed him to be like this with her.

4) The MC is s*upid, it is completely the truth. But he can at the same time be a real genius.

That's one of the most frustrating things about he MC, he can be a genius some times and become an total idiot just after that.

If he could endure things a little more and not always going s*upid for a little thing he could easily have been even more succesful. Too bad he become almost ret*rded sometimes.

For example, he could eat a bread of luck before using the "dice of difficulty" but instead of that he refuse to use the latter because he had one bad experience with it (a really really bad experience since he almost died), he should also show more guts. <<less

If you want to read the "good" GENERIC novel, this one may not for you. Better leave it after ch.200-300. Else you end up with 1-2 star rating.

The plot is somewhat "generic". MC went to another world with this world 'advance' knowledge, had limitless cheating OP, met obstacles, fighted with the cheating OP, split-hair won, proceeded to another bigger obstacle, won again. Again, again, again, again, again, again, again, again, again, again, again, again, again, again, again, again kill.

But I give 5 stars to this novel and all THOSE OPs.

Because... more>> I think back to my classroom years ago.

Thinking of all those classes of literature, culture, mathematics, arts appreciation, music notation, etc.

Those very, very boring subjects.

Boring to dead!

This novel transforms all those boring classroom teachings to be the most wonderful subjects, from another viewpoint.

But.. While the translation is excellent, there're a lot of lost inevitable. Not translator's fault. The ultra-deep of the ancient Chinese culture can not, will not, be translated with the simple English. You need a lot of Chinese knowledges to fully enjoy this novel.

WARNING : THIS STORY HAS VERY STRONG 'PATRIOT' FLAVOR. OFFENSE OTHER COUNTRIES UP TO FATALLY DEGREE. But it's inseparable ingredient of the main plot..

The last word for you who have the ability to enjoy this novel to the fullest :

.. Wishing we Last Forever..

BTW, if you do not/can not know the above clause, you'll end up with 1 star rating. Don't waste your time reading this novel. You have too thick limitations. <<less

This is pure comedy xianxia. It is very basic and follow generic plot of xianxia where the strong bully the weak but with modern setting so being strong here doesn't mean great physical strength or intelligence. The MC's attitude is so commonly found (very good attitude toward friends no mercy for the enemies) but the author really written it so well so far you'll forget about the common xianxia plot and you'll just laughing your a** off while reading this. If you're not laughing you're either a sociopath or psychopath or both.
Spoiler

I didn't give a 4 because no matter how good this is, still follow basic xianxia plot. Oh and mild racism towards korean too hehehe not that I care about it

Awesome novel. Only minus is MC is like shameless virg*n when it comes to women. It's fun, but is slow paced and its too oriented to literature and poems that i've never read, sometimes there are some poem composition contest that lost me in translation with chinese and differwnt pronuntiation kinda gets boring but I just read them and givenothoughts about that. Seriously, this novel is absolutely hilarious. You would be seriously hard pressed to find a lot of reviews that sh*t on this novel. The main character is a riot of laughs, the plot is great and it even has relevant Chinese culture brought to it! Ok, so first, this is basically a face-slapping novel where MC wakes up in an alternate universe where everything and everyone is almost the same as his original world, besides the fact that this world doesn't have any classic and modern stories, movies, art, songs, etc. MC also gets a power where he can spin a lottery wheel/gacha and get abilities as prizes. Some of them are temporary like a luck increasing potion while some are permanent which make him a literary genius, super smart etc. He uses these abilities... more>> along with his general knowledge to dip his toes in different industries and become highly successful. Like he gets a prize on the gacha that makes him super smart, then he goes and solves some un-solvable mathematics conjectures like the Three-Body Problem in a very public manner. There's obviously lots of face-slapping involved as you can guess and his achievements are recognized globally. He then gets invited as a guest professor at China's biggest universities, where one of the FMCs is a dean. After that, he gets the ability to become a great writer, which he uses to introduce the chinese classic novels like Journey to the West to this alternate world and gets even more popular.

This is done throughout the novel where he re-creates the most popular movies like Frozen and TV shows like Man vs. Wild etc.

However, there are also lots of anti-JP and anti-US sentiments throughout along with lots of pro-China patriotism but it is ignorable for the most part. Lastly, if you didn't know since they never mentioned it here, but this series was axed in 2018 iirc. The reason is complicated but also very obvious if you've read it. Basically, author doesn't care about copyright and directly uses the exact names of the movies/songs. For example, MC directly makes and releases Frozen after he gets the ability to be a godly animator. He uses the same names of the characters like Elsa, Anna and puts the same lyrics to its songs like Let It Go. Usually China Literature/ Webnovel/Tencent will protect their authors even against giants like Disney, but the author even made fun of SARFT which is the regulatory body of any and all Chinese media irl. He showed it to be corrupt and that MC slowly improves the organization after he starts dating the beautiful director of SARFT lol. Even if this is true, you shouldn't be surprised if his novel got axed after all this and he isn't allowed to write anymore.

Maybe I was just naive all those years ago when I used to read it, but the novel was indeed fun and probably the first face-slapping novel I read, so I remember it fondly even with all these issues it had. I just wish the author would've been more careful and less unhinged so he wouldn't have gotten banned. Now we don't know what happened with him although the obvious guess is that he's not allowed to write anymore... <<less

At first it is very good. The first 300 chapters are incredible, but there comes a time when you get sick of the characters.

What is most notable about this novel are the moments in which Zhang Ye impresses others with the knowledge of his world. It's great and exciting, because after all they are excellent works and works of our world (although I am not Chinese and I don't know most of them). It is for this point that I held on and I read a little more than half... more>> of the work.

What disappoints me a lot are the characters. Zhang Ye has almost no development, it's nice for the first few chapters because there's comedy, but when that goes away you realize how unpleasant it is; the antagonists are all boring and only exist to be humiliated; the supporting characters exist to be impressed by the protagonist and none of them are interesting; the love interests are almost the same as the secondary characters but with a "goddess" appearance, the romantic subplot does not exist, there is no romance at all (I swear there is not a scene where the girls are embarrassed or shy, they literally don't feel human), and the little exchanges there are are pretty shitty. Personally, I find it quite pathetic that the protagonist can only get close to the love interests with the help of the system.

Oh, right. This novel is not labeled as a romance! So I may have said unnecessary things. By the way, it doesn't have a harem label either, so don't expect that (small spoiler: I was disappointed that the protagonist was loyal to the director when it wasn't even halfway through the novel) hahahaha.

One more thing, this novel has plenty of nationalism and racism, the protagonist is the personification of these two, add that to his immaturity and hypocrisy and believe me, you are going to get sick of him.

Man, I wouldn't recommend reading this novel because only the first 300-500 are decent. And there are almost 1700 chapters. <<less

Well worst novel...

I don't know what other above people are saying that the MC is attacking others but what I know that the MC is a pathetic loser..

Why u ask? Very simple he doesn't owns anything also people gives him trouble for a small and simple reason and our ms is very magnanimous forgetting those things people at the station boycotted him again and again and our magnanimous MC helped them again and again...

... more>> Well this novel practically screams that it is a novel... Don't understand ??

Very simple this novel doesn't gets to the touch of reality basically u can't get immersed with it u will feel what I m reading is a fake coz of its useless chapters sigh... Why I m so angered ?

Coz it really broke my mood today

Atleast if someone irritates u then payback sufficiently so that he never thinks of doing it again, it's not like he will think twice before doing wtf is with this crappy statement... <<less
