Chestnut at it again with the 'suddenly falling in love main couple'. She does that in her other novel as well, but it wasn't as unpleasant with this one. No, Im not saying it's that bad but ML is. So I've actually read this when I was younger and I only felt fluff but now that I reread this, I suddenly find a few misgivings.

MC isn't that bad, she's okay- I mean, clinging on to a golden thigh must be what almost every one of us wants to do right?... more>> Well, I was rather impressed by her because of that but after an action with the ML I felt she was too easy to get as they've only met in less than a month (?) or at least a month. But hey, this is a short novel so I let it pass. Haha, also the s*x scene came in rather fast.

But then, a few paragraphs after, I learned that CEO Song is basically a pe*vert with a long legs kink, and him going inviting her to a few meals was just him laying a big trap lure her in- to eat her. Basically, his every action was that he was just interested in eating her. I guess author wanted to keep them 'pure' because ML also said, he only kissed and kept things fast or pure (?).

Then there's also that thing with Pei Ying getting cast but rejected by CEO Song just because, his pride is also too high and just kept on getting opportunities at parties instead of talking to her personally. It took him longer. There's also no courtship mentioned, just s*x then suddenly he announced that they're together. Then the rumour thing, instead of taking it down, he left it there for the world to see just because he wanted to spite MC. Then when it came to actually making up with her after almost breaking up, the first thing he did after saying he's sorry is had s*x with her, 我的吗呀!

That's not all. When he wanted MC to meet his parents, he made her take lessons to appear like a 'rich girl', bit*h why not just bloody get a rich girl for a wife then!? Then when she was seen through, he got angry!??? Really can't believe Chestnut wrote his character like that.

Anyhows, there are some fluff moments and chestnut's witty dialogues did not fail as expected. Just that the characters for this one is too.... well... <<less

A simple, fairly straightforward romance novel, with no angst or anger-inducing moments. It has lots of fluffy moments and the characters are very likeable.

The best part is how mature the plot is (not in a s*xual way). The author brushes on a few more serious issues in the FL's family without exaggerating them or making the family hateful to tge point of demanding face-slapping. The reader can almost fit him/herself into the FL's shoes and her relationship with them rings very close to reality.

The ML is the CEO troupe. But... more>> tge author does address the overbearing nature and how it affects the relationship at the start. In this novel we see something we don't see often: the ML apologizing without turning to a 100% submissive wife-s*ave.

A good, light read to cool off. <<less

Not bad, but I definitely started getting bored halfway through.

They get together quickly, and then the rest of the story is mostly their interactions throughout her career? Honestly I just finished the story and I already can't quite recall, it's entertaining enough but nothing novel. Moreover, the author's characters are all quite similar, especially the ones in entertainment. Except ML this time is more shamelessly pervy lmao.

I also don't quite understand how ML fell so in love. Like I like MC quite a bit, especially in the beginning (she was... more>> kinda channeling vibes of the MC in He's Mine, No Objections Allowed although that one is better), but basically, he fell for her looks haha. But if he were that type of person, how could he have remained pure so long?? Novel magic. <<less

A very lighthearted and fluffy read. The romance between the ML and FL is very cute and maybe a tad unrealistic, but it did make me squeal and smile.

There was none of the usual love rival / jealously / backstabbing in usual C-novels. Instead, the problems the couples faced were quite realistic:

My first novel reading of "Truly Precious" series. It's short, light, fluffy and definitely josei. I agree with joun's, I also thought that ML's feeling was quite a mystery. And it's too good to be true.

But I quite enjoyed the rest of the story. I would definitely read the other novels as well.

At 1st, I don't like when I start reading it. Then I read ealier comment, so I just followed her/his message that

"Just Give It A Try"

so, I continued reading it, after few chapters then later, I like it.

A wolf wearing sheepskin and a pure innocent bunny.

It's funny, nice, sweet and so on (story?).

The thing I slightly dispointed about is there was only little Side Story for the 2nd brother and the best friend.

lmao! At first I was very reluctant to read this novel bcoz’ of the title but then I gave it a try. This novel is so fluffy you even wish that it should have a bit more drama (may just a shick coz’ every other novel I’ve read have dramas that will make you hate the author xD) anyways overall it’s so great it satisfy your craving for sweet and fluffy stuff, though during the 1/4 of the story I always felt that the ML have ulterior motives but... more>> guess I’m wrong with that! <<less

This novel is sweet and very hilarious. Well if you have that kind of sense of humour. Anyways, this novel indeed has its good points and flaws. However, character wise, it is rather realistic I guess you may say.

I have read some reviews criticising that the male lead is too pushy. That is indeed true but I think he still tries to correct the attitude.

There is one time where he took the female lead’s chance in acting a particular drama/show (I can’t remember) due to it having many intimate scenes. The female lead was mad which is understandable. This lead to them arguing and having a Cold War. At first, the male lead didn’t understand why but he slowly found it lonely without her. Even with the Cold War, he still protected her indirectly.

To me, I think it is realistic I guess since he lived a sheltered life. Honestly, the female lead has flaws as well. She may be stubborn in her decisions and she doesn’t really like to give in (in fights).

Although, both of them have flaws. They are still a cute and funny couple. It is more of an overprotective male lead and an optimistic and practical female lead. However, like what some said sadly, this type of romance will be so rare to see in real life. :__:

The plot is still entertaining due to the funny scenes. And this feeling of entertaining may differ on different opinions. But, I found it funny and light.

All in all, I would recommend this novel to anyone who is looking for a light novel that is funny (but can also take certain extent to how the male lead is pushy).

I don't know why, but the synopsis seemed to present the male lead as a playboy, which is very misleading. There is nothing in the story which even remotely hints that he is a playboy. Because of the playboy expectation, I really couldn't take his behaviour to the female lead in a serious way, but he was serious from the beginning, I think. Just something to watch out for.

The female lead was, in my opinion, very likeable. She had her own opinions, and wasn't afraid of sticking to them even.... more>> She demanded respect from the male lead, and she got it. It was so satisfying to read something where the female lead stuck up for herself and didn't allow the male lead to walk all over her just because he was hot and sexy.

Also, a note about her relationship with her parents:

It's revealed early on that the female lead had quite a bad relationship with her parents: they favour her brother in all things, request money from her to give to her brother and try to get a leg up wherever possible. Normally, this irritates me exceedingly, but in this novel it did not. The female lead allows her parents to walk all over her; she has her own bottom line. When her parents cross it she puts them right back after they belong. You also feel the complication of being a daughter to parents your don't like, but nevertheless feel a family bond for. The feeling of "they're family" was there, which supported the female lead's actions. Also, the male lead, instead of insisting that she drop the relation, respected her decision, but refused to be exploited by her family. Overall, it was refreshing to read a bad family relationship that was well written.

This series is one of the few romance series without angst. There were issues for the FL and ML but they were not overly blown out of proportion but was handled very well. I enjoyed the way the characters interactd with each other and I enjoyed reading the series from start to finish twice because of how much I enjoyed it. Read for a cute and mature love story between two adults

Personally speaking, this story is one of my faves. The two main leads were too adorable, cute, and sweet hahaha and also the fact that there are no angst in this story is truly admirable. I mean you can just read each chapters without feeling sad or angry because you will only end up laughing hahahaha no dramas, just happiness

This novel seems so have brought me a fair share of hurt and joy albeit unknowingly.

TL;DR I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND THIS TO INFINITY AND BEYOND.

One of those feel-good novels. It's strong point is the moe and the top-notch green- ahem ahem, I meant rainbow, fluffy colourful rainbow-coloured humour. :^D I gained a lot of wisdom from Master Shanshan.

"If you're not afraid of educated ruffians, you have to worry about pe*verts with patience." HAHAHAHAHA lol

Anywaaay~ I'm with all the praises of this book. Feeling like all the other reviewers have already expressed what I wanted to say, I'll just keep this short: overall, this one's a fantastic... more>> read, very recommended esp. When you're feeling blue or if you just wanted a big break from the heavy xianxia/wuxia palace intrigue plots. The characters are all cute and fluff, the leads of "good" personality

I'm rating this 4* to 4.5*.

Pros:

  1. Steady character growth. Unlike in other novels where the characters seem to grow, and then frustratingly regress, before moving forward again, the characters here show steady growth from start to finish.
  2. The novel has the right amount of face slapping when and where it mattered.

    The MC and the ML were also able to stand up to the MC's mother (typical Chinese parents who favor sons over their daughters), and were able to stand their ground, so kudos to them.

  3. This novel reminds me of the Harlequin and Silhouette novels that I used to read in high school. Well written (kudos to the translator as well), well thought out plots (although I think there was a missing chapter, but I didn't mind), well balanced characters in their proper places, and no major red flags.
Cons:

  1. imo, the progress of the relationship between the leads is a bit too fast, but they're both willing and single so, this is just a personal complaint.
  2. Spoiler

    I'm a bit dissatisfied with what happened to Tao Tao. She badmouthed the MC and looked down on her. The MC let her be because she knew that some other strong willed characters will give her her due. She was laying low after a screenshot of her badmouthing another actress got exposed, but that's it. I guess the author and the MC didn't think she was too much of a threat so they didn't really deal with her too harshly?

Honestly, after reading The Sweetest ‘Fake’ Couple, I'm just glad that there is no racism, r*pe, and all kinds of ab*ses and prejudices here. I was so relieved and was able to finish the novel smoothly in one sitting. This is not the best novel I've read, but I really believe it's a solid 4* - 4.5*.

I finished another Chesnut-nim story 🥹✊

I promised myself to finish all the works in NU. And I have no regrets.

As all readers know, Chesnut-nim is really good at writing refreshingly light stories! It's in the drama genre, but it's not annoying, it's really funny and entertaining.

For this story, I would like to say to those who are interested but hesitant, don't pay too much attention to some previous readers' reviews about our ML characters. I'm honestly one of those overthinking readers, and even though I've tried not to read the... more>> comments, for some reason I saw one of the comments that said the ML characters were annoying and unpleasant.

And really!!!

Our song CEO is a CEO... And like most fantasy stories, his character is domineering, possessive but not in a black way, and I can tell that he's a bit silly. Between Mo Zhen and some of the author's other ML characters, I can say that our CEO Song is unique, he's pe*verted, shameless, childish, but in a fun way.

Despite a few misunderstandings in the beginning, and the exception of a slightly rushed plot, I can say that this story is also quite entertaining. <<less

Sometimes when I catch the glimpse of reviews I think to myself, are we reading the same novel? Opinions are all subjective, so let me bend this novel into prism and pour some light.

Those who know who Chestnut is will say - that their novels on the average basis do not bear much weight, meaning they don't like to dwell into tear-jerking drama and keep things simple. Their narration sryle does not include describing emotional state of their characters in micro-details. You have to catch up on small things and... more>> use imagination. The stories are simple and the relationships are same simple. Not everyone wants some epic drama that should justify feelings between two people. There is no need to experience fire and water to fall in love, you can always leave it for later. Such novels have their own audience (otherwise there wouldn't be this many of their novels translated here).

Those who don't know who is Chestnut - especially if it's their first ;) will insist that their plots are shallow and feelings come out of nowhere (here I want to ask those professors, do you actually know where feelings come from, they actually have some conditions and precise coordinates where they appear? :) Come on, share~). They stumbled into 'light-hearted' section and want something different in the wrong place.. But you know why this happens? Comparison! Many things are compared to each other, so if some novel falls short of some things then it should be considered bad? I've read my share of entertainment novels (BG and BL) and they're full of routines, so you think Chestnut doesn't have it? Ha! They have it all, but it's just not as exaggerated. Do we have a jealous cannon fodder? We do. Do we have unspoken rules? We do, though we don't follow the retaliation plan of drugging and r*, agents don't pimp their artists without consent, there is no emphasis of blackening people online. We even have an accidents, but it isn't used as a sublimation of showing love. Things are just toned down in comparison to average routines.

Okay, let's get back to the novel.

Chestnut's novels don't have crazy plots and this one is not an exception. I'd call them casual. Both characters have uneven position before the relationship and I don't mean their social status, which is obviously adding to where they both start, but it concerns their view on a relationship.

From Pei Ying's side. Her position actually intensifies where Shen Nanchuan stands in the relationship, because she is purer in nature. And there is nothing wrong with that. She's more shy and embarrassed. I don't consider her weak when it comes to Shen Nanchuan, because she had principles during those years in entertainment, with her appearance men would line up to serve her, but she doesn't want men to treat her according to her appearance (as a hoe). As a result she is attracted to Nanchuan and physically they become closer before the phase of 'finding more about each other' catches up. But it has a feel of mutual attraction.. To her quicker than to him imo. But I do consider her weaker when it comes to her family. SEE! This is why I say that routines are so influential, if you read too much. I'm the avid example. Because you know her parents mooch off money, but in her words they're still her parents and they never ab*sed her and provided her. So when you expect a scene where her family acts like a monster it doesn't happen! What to do with these feelings of anticipation? Nothing. Keep on reading. Honestly, because we got different upbringing for us parents bringing up and providing for their children (food & education) is their direct obligation, not some awesome gift or debt higher than the sky.

From Shen Nanchuan's side. I personally felt that he was more casual about their relationship at the beginning (compared to Yingying he sounds like an outright a**hole), after all he's not a shy little flower, even if he was attracted to Yingying (he likes long legs, deal with it, most innocent of preferences, okay). His goal was quite clear, he saw a woman he liked and then they got together. But because of his obvious overbearing character he makes a big mistake, which leads to their fight. Only here initial feelings of fascination step back and true feelings step closer, after all he doesn't separate, he cares, but he has a phase where he should rebuild some things about his old self to be truly together. And this is why I say Yingying is not weak with him, she does not give in, untill his final sorry.

And this is where simplicity kicks in, he doesn't go through emotional torments and chases wife into crematorium, but still conveys. Like I don't understand why things should be complicated? Sometimes reading obvious routines just to make two characters miss each other again and again feels forced.

Note: Considering his s* drive. Well, some do have it like him, so it's nothing weird. But it does occupy a lot of space in the novel :) It's as if he's a newlywed 24/7 for indefinite period, I agree it was overdone. But who cares, he loves his woman, she enjoys, but she's more of a shy person. But considering that this novel was written in '16 I can understand why there was so much play on the bed.

So here we have, pretty simple story with no deeper dive with a bit of life, a bit of romance, a bit of entertainment and that is all. And a bit of cringe. Inevitable cringe :) Comparing to later novels this still feels fresh, so you know when authors are a bit edgier when they start :'D I think that's the case lol

So will you like this novel? If you're here to seek mad ups and downs then you found the wrong place, you will find that this novel does not call to any of your demands. Chestnut is for people who seek peace and calm, very anti high blood pressure ahahaha

Keep this in mind before reading.

I personally rate this novel around 3, 5/5, because I rarely give 5 and it's not that good in cmparison to their other novels to get 4. At least to me it was as expected :) *entered zen* <<less

I thought it was going to be fluffy. It can be cute? Or was she just someone with no dating history and ML rich? And the guy wants only one thing ALL THE TIME. Does he like her, or her legs? And when he already confessed his feelings out of nowhere? What was that? I only finished reading it because I had to see where the story would lead, I can only blame my curiosity.

It's a good one. The ML is a bit of an ah*ole in the beginning, but he learns and is decent. The FL is cute too, they both are sweet and loveable. However, with all this said, it's somewhat lacking something and I felt it's kind of rushed at the end.

Anyways, Gray, try it if you have time! 😌

If you're already familiar with the Chinese web novels (at least to some extent), then I'm sure you'd know of Ban Li Zi/ Chestnut. She wrote 14 novels in total in shared universe (I've already finished 10. Don't worry, I'll get to the other 4 soon). Each novel has its own flavor but mostly Slice of life genre in it is common. But nothing to worry, it's not a series, every novel is a stand alone.

This is the 1st novel I read of this author. At first it gave me... more>> the impression of the stereotypical CEO romances in wattpad. But no, it's not.

The ML (Song Nan Chuan) is blackbellied and sly. Even his pursuit for FL didn't escape from his slyness. He is the epitome of dominant but doting CEO ML.

FL (Pei Ying) has her own charm. Her long legs with good humor makes her noticeable in a crowd of FLs. Despite failing multiple times, neither did she give up nor did she lose her cheerful self. I think it's admirable in itself.

Their romance and chemistry isn't stereotypical. Reading this, you'll feel refreshed, not boring.

But if you're in for some angst, it's not for you right now.

P.S:

Pei Ning's friend is my favorite character though.

But Song Nan Chuan is the prince charming of my teenage heart! <<less
