Kenkyo, Kenjitsu o Motto ni Ikite Orimasu

It was something that happened while I was waiting for the day of the primary school entrance exam. I realised that I had become one of the characters of a shoujo manga that I loved reading in my old life, ‘You Are My Dolce’.

The role I was assigned was a character who bullied the commoner protagonist and tried to get in the way of her love with a rich boy nicknamed Emperor; a typical villainess rich girl, Kisshouin Reika.

At the end of the story, Reika suffered the Emperor’s retribution and even her family fell into ruin. With the villain gone, the protagonist and the Emperor overcame their trials and became a couple. And they lived happily ever after.

Wait, that’s terrible for meee! The manga ended there, but I have to continue living my life after my family is ruined!

The protagonist can enjoy her romance or love or whatever on her own. I’ll erase my presence so that I don’t anger the Emperor.

Eh-? The story isn’t progressing well because there’s no villain, you say? But I’m busy saving up money and studying so that I can live well after the collapse.

I really like this novel and enjoy the story a lot, despite there're many miscellaneous things happened in this novel, it's still fun to read. But I feel a bit disappointed with the author, because he/she might be discontinued this novel, makes me regret why I read this unfinished story. _ (:зゝ∠) _

The FL:

Spoiler

The FL is ridiculously funny, she got her own pace and antic so it made her unique. The starter story is slow, it show how much the FL being careful being around the Male 1 & 2. She's trying hard to put a facade to mask her personality but it's still show. And for the latest chapter she's finally show her true colour bits a bits but sadly the author hasn't continued the novel. It's like "lagi sayang-sayangnya eh diputus". I like how author give her many nickname like rococo queen, makie makie, goddess Kali (curly) and etc. And she's also not trying to be self righteous toward heroine (the FL of the manga she's been in) because people bully her, but FL's kind in her own way.

[collapse]

ML:

Spoiler

Idk which ones is the ML (because of the very slow 🐌 romance) ; the Male 1 (Bakaburagi, sorry he's indeed baka and simple guy) is pretty much fall for the heroine and made (forced) FL to be his strategies. And the story began very interesting cause how blunt FL toward this simpleton, and the friendship act between them is so fun to read.

the Male 2 (Enjou) even though he's surprisingly observing the FL a lot, he got (self-proclaimed) fiance. He's became a bit persistent toward FL in the latest chapter, always say that FL looks cute like a rabbit. I really wish to read from his pov about FL because he knows FL a lot. Geez, I hope they can be together, they indeed match with each other.

I also like the other characters like FL father (the tanuki pfft), her dreamy oni-sama, her flirty oni-sama's friend, her devoted cousin, her sharp mouth bestie, class rep, angel yukino-kun (Enjou little bro), and many more.

[collapse]

Thank you for the translator to translate this novel for free, I love it when you also give some explaination and insert classic music about how FL describe some of character. Thanks for your hard work.

Considering there're so many fans of this novel (some people draw doujinshi, fanfic, etc) I really hope the author (I hope he/she is well and okay) pick it up again. And then made this into manga -> anime, that's would be wonderful. <<less

I'm giving this a 3.5 stars.

'Kenkyo, Kenjitsu o Motto ni Ikite Orimasu' follows a girl who transmigrated into the body of the villainous. Those who have read enough asian novels, or comics already are familiar with this troupe. So why does it have such high reviews?

Because it has a new take on this story. This isn't really about a villainess anymore, it's abouta gluttenous airhead bishoujo. It follows from kindergarten all the way to highschool, and I'm reviewing up to a couple chapters in the high school arc (can't remember which chapter though).

What really sold this is the characters. Seeing the characters you'd usually see in a villainous trope suddenly having a twist to their personalities, making it hilarious and fun. It feels really refreshing.

So should I read it?

Well there is one pet peeve that might annoy many people. It's written like a journal entry. Okay don't start backing out because fo this, it's unique way of telling the story is honestly what originally s**ked me in. But imagine reading a jounral entry for 500 chapters, that's what made me drop. I felt tired after 200, even though I still go back to it every now and then. (In fact I'm suddenly feeling the mood to read it right now.) If you like to binge-read you'll most likely drop this story.

It's also easy to forget. Maybe it's just me, but I have restarted this story 3 times because everytime I want to go back to it I can't remember where I left off. Just thinking about this novel makes me tired, it's like reading a lullaby. It's nice and sweet, but you fall asleep before the end of it.

Speaking of which, if you're a fan of action, thriller, or stuff that has you on the edge of your seats, well... get ready for a change of scenery. There is absolutely no action, or attention jerking scenes in here. Other than the food. Because...

This story makes you hungry. I'm warning you now, don't read this on an empty stomache. Not only does the MC talk about her eating or wanting food every chapter, the translator always puts pictures of the food she's talking about (which is really nice) and it drives me crazy.

The characters... yeah they all weird. Like I mentioned earlier, the cast in this novel are the real selling points. I'm not saying they're fully fleshed out characters with realistic depth. Rather they are so very unrealistic, and that's why they're so loveable. I can't really remember all the characters, and I keep forgetting their names (I had to read the summary to get Reika's name). But I remember their personalities, and boy did I laugh a couple of times.

Comedy is good, not gold, but definitely leaves you chuckling. Especially the chapters that show how the MC is viewed by others, they are my favorite chapters.

All in all the novel is really good: so why 3.5 instead of the 5/5 that everyone else is giving?

Three major things:

    1. MC's Density This is actually a running gag in the story. And while it starts off funny, it loses it's endearance after constantly seeing it all the time. The MC is s*upid, most of the time I enjoy it, other times I feel the need to chuck my tablet out the window. She never gets anything. And she overthinks about the wrong things. It gets really annoying after 50 chapters tbh.
    2. Journal Entry I did say this was what got me to read the story, but it also got me to drop it. If you properly manage the amount of chapters you read at once it can still be enjoyable.
    3. Repetitive Unfortunately you see a pattern after reading a couple of chapters, and this repetitiveness makes me no longer look forward to what's going to happen, because I already know. (Doesn't change the fact that it is fun to watch it play out)
There you have it folks.

You'll never really know until you give it a try. But if you're like me who reads based on the reviews and the ratings, hope this helps.

- Peace

I rarely read slice of life stories but decided I needed a palate cleanse after my binge of xianxia novels. To say in the least, this novel was a pleasant surprise and I thoroughly enjoyed both the plot and humour. I honestly prefer reading novels that are written in third person rather than first person but found this particular story to be an exception. The characters are lovable and refreshing and the writing style and content does not bore me. It is quite disappointing that the author has stopped writing... more>> though - it appears to have been on hiatus for around 2 years now so I'm not hopeful on whether or not this will be picked up again. I appreciate the detail the translator has put into both the translations and into providing readers with background - especially for the more Japan-centric aspects that are mentioned in the novel. <<less

This is the best "reincarnated into otome-game" novel I ve found so far.

The story is pretty funny, every characters have an interesting personality. Unlike the most novel with similar settings, the world in this story doesn't only spun around the main character where she comes and solve every problems around her, nah, the MC is pretty bad at solving problems and even struggling with her own problem such as keeping her grades or diets.

The main theme of this novel is comedy and everyday-life at school, so don't expect some overly... more>> serious things like heartbreaking love story or eternal Romeo-Juliet love saga. Just a normal love story between highschool students, no internal-external conflict of trust and betrayal, no crappy plot to make the heroine fall for the main male lead. Just a story that meant to be enjoyed, and make you laugh when you read it.

conclusion: JUST READ IT !!! <<less

I really dig this kind of story combination

Otome + reincarnation + female protagonist + romance

And it's not too sweet that will give you diabetussss.

The only thing I dislike about it is the lack of romance and badump kyaa kyaa emotions around the MC. Like, is she some sort of a fairygod mother or narrator for her peers? Is she even going to get romantic moments with anyone at all??? Where is this story even going to? That I don't know

This is a slice of life story that can be savored anytime you want, in my opinion. You'll notice the narrative is from Reika's point of view and she's a very very quirky common girl behind her ojou-sama persona. Her ojou-sama acting, compared immediately to her inner monologuing, makes for humorous read. However, she's also a very very unreliable narrator, and it's exposed in the rare side character POV chapters that what she thinks of herself and what the people around her thinks of her are vastly different things (at... more>> least in the beginning). As the story progresses, Reika makes a lot of friends everywhere, but sadly no romantic relations. She bemoaned this fact rather frequently and would often compare herself to her peers. All in all, Reika is a very relatable female MC while not being boring at all. I just wish author-san would take pity on her love life... xD <<less

I just have to say how frustrated I am and how I love it so much. It has a lot of similar elements to the usual trope of “reincarnated main character or villain”... or so I thought. Yes the main character sets out to change her miserable future of being abandoned by everything; family, friends (if she ever had any), wealth, reputation, and love. Similarly to some novels out there (like akuyaku) she starts out by getting her memories back at a young age, very young (still older than Akuyaku).... more>> She’s determined to change the outcome. But the funny things is: she’s so dumb but so smart at the same time. She’s a girl that knows herself. She’s a girl who has human emotions. She’s a girl that knows how to understand others. She’s a girl that makes an effort. She’s also selfish just like anyone but also selfless for many. She’s a very miserable coward but a also a brave hero and helpful friend. It’s contradicting but it works. Don’t start misunderstanding, this has comedy and is relatively light hearted. It’s romantic and dramatic. It involves the life of the rich and life of a commoner at the same time; her current life and her past life. She’s very incredible and ever changing (mostly her weight). She doesn’t hold on much to her past life although she does get sentimental. She knows how to treasure her current life, truly like a heroine who has been given a second chance. She’s a very lovable character and so are all of the others. They are complex and so are the relations (except the mobs one, i.e Tsuruhana). As u watch her interactions, without even saying it, it’s very easy to understand more of the characters, i.e. the father, mother, etc. Sometimes the author provides another viewpoint and it’s very enjoyable and helps understand a lot of the stuff that’s needed to be understood in another viewpoint, i.e. the siscon. She’s actually very consistent and so are the other characters. She is depicted as “powerful” on the outside but at the same time, many people know that she’s a hardworking and kind person. It is an adventure of others drawn to her true charisma, i.e. Sakurako (scary yandere) and Akizawa (normally cute), Aoi (relatable), Umewaka (weirdest weirdo) and friends and lover (dog- B chan), Class Rep (maiden), Iwamuro (weird maiden), Bro (especially, siscon but doesn’t admit it), Enjou (fake angel), Fellow Stalking Horse (workaholic), Ririna (tsundere), Mao and bf (sweet honey angels) and uncle (contradicting), Emperor (idiot), Irima (lady-killer), Yukino (true angel), MC (superwoman), Aira (prince), Tomoe (every girl’s dream and heartbreak) and gf (relationship goals), etc. Although she gains and encounters many enemies, it is important to notice that she also has many that will stand up for her. The characters like u have seen above has very distinct personalities and problems just like any human. It’s like the author is showing every kind of character there is.

Its better to know that this novel do focus on romance and drama but at the same time it’s about everything that happens within the school and her life. It focuses on the others’ life and not just her at the center of the world, although it is still seen in her POV. Regrettably, all the romantic developments are for those around her. To this day, I have not seen any progress except for the fact that she met the potential love candidates but has no further developments. It’s like she focuses on so many other stuff and other people that she can’t help but want to have some but getting none. Even I can’t stand her having no progression in love.

Another bonus that I really love is her relatable real life problems and her real life personality and the semi real depictions of rich life. It’s very enjoyable and attractive. It draws u in and make u sympathize, love, and can’t help but keep on reading.

this is a funny story. At the first chapters Reika is having troubles with her weight (maybe that's why some of the reviews say it is all about dieting.. She is just conscious about it because of the people around her. But in the later chapters it would delve more into the plot (although she would be repeatedly be the chief of the forever alone village, not that she successfully retired from being one XD).. The writing style of the author is so funny! So it is worth reading. Reika's... more>> situations are hilarious. Misunderstandings and stuff. The fact that the male population of Suiran views her as an 'Empress' because of her clique, made her a little bit unlucky in lovelife. I am really interested to know who will she end up with!! It's just everyday life of an Ojou-sama, BUT! She is actually a peasant reborn, who foresaw doomed future of her family as villainous love rival of manga she red in her previous life. So what did she do to avoid the destruction flag? What the title says, and save her allowance just in case the destruction flag was inevitable.

The summary says it all, and if you expect something happen in Reika's life with climax and plot twist... there's none whatsoever. At least not on the level of drama worthy that... more>> happen to her, in fact when it happen to other character Reika manage to narrate even a terrible heartbreak to sound like something out of comedic gag. Being a peasant and an otaku in her past life make her nothing like noble Ojou-sama she appear outside, as her joy in life consist of stealing chance to eat peasant food she missed in this bourgeois life.

You'd think this novel would be boring, being slice of life of modern Ojou-sama with no fantasy element whatsoever. But the author manage to make Reika's life interesting with showing different shade of typical shoujo characters from manga she read. The Emperor was actually a romantic idiot with no common sense, and his best friend and sidekick was a black hearted prince. Surprisingly, this novel also explain why the original Reika turn to villainous rich girl she was, and how terrified current Reika was when she realized...
Spoiler

her parents nurtured canon!Reika's obsession for Emperor.

[collapse]

There's also a lot of misunderstandings about Reika image as Empress of Suiran, general population believe she is the epitome of high class young lady and admire her for her geniality to peasants in school. She did her best acting like an Ojou-sama, and only a few manage to see through Reika and think she is a weirdo.

It says something for quality of writing if the author can make daily life of Reika-sama from primary school to highschool an interesting read without any major time skip. Then by the time you read the last chapter you'd wonder if Reika going to cram school, dieting, and eating sweets is that interesting? You still can't stop though, and that's what make this series wonderful because Reika's antics alone is enough to root you to your seat. <<less

This is a really fun and light-hearted novel!

The story basically revolves around the MC's daily life. The story involves a lot of characters, misunderstandings, and the struggles of an oujo-sama who wants nothing more than to eat what she wants but somehow gets involved in a lot of troublesome high school life problems.

Kenkyo, Kenjitsu is a very interesting read and a real mood-lifter! The plot isn't too deep but the events that occur in the story are interesting enough to keep you wanting more. The translations are very well done... more>> and the translator is very helpful in explaining concepts that are used in the story. From the start, I really gave this book the benefit of the doubt but boy starting from the start, one of my eyebrows has already raised it's head.

They're six year olds but they are simping on a six year old kid. They are kids! I haven't seen a kid ever, whether in reality or fiction except in this book, get infatuated this early. There is no logic on this because firstly they were not undergoing puberty so the hormones that were responsible for attraction or basically the ones who jumpstart... more>> various parts of our body to feel, want and react to stimulus that attracts us is still not available. Kids this age focus more on wants or satisfaction basically in the form of fun or mouth pleasure like eating and drinking as well as playing. They still have no concept of like or puppy love. Please don't taint children. It shows lack of credibility and made me distrust what will happen next in the succeeding chapters.

The MC is an adult but she's acting dense and s*upid. She is also naive. Things that I hate on a MC. She's also vain sadly and the way she lives her life is pretty uninteresting. She really acts like a child and her thoughts are those of a child as well, despite being over 20 years old.

Excerpt:

I had my hair done at a salon, and in place of a hair accessory I had a fresh white flower placed in.

Aah, I feel like a princess.

I’m really starting to feel like a stylish girl.

Honestly, I can’t stop my smirking anymore, you know?

I mean I’m wearing my favourite dress, and I’ll be going to the summer party!

But this kind of smile isn’t very ladylike, so I need to be careful.

Still, my cheek muscles won’t listen to me. -Smirk smirk-

Vain, regressed to a kid and shallow. Could we have a timeskip. Why are we on the timeline where the MC is six years old?

So I grew tired of it by this point. It's shameful for me to give this a 2 star as I didn't go through it through the tenth chapter. So I'm giving it a 3 just because it didn't hook me enough. <<less

I found this story a lot of fun to read, mostly. I read it to chapter 200 and had a decent time, mainly because it was just humorous and many of the situations were amusing. So to that end it's kind of fun. The translation was excellent and the translation team should be really proud of themselves (aside from that disconcerting sidebar... I used ublock on it though...).

Unfortunately, that's its limit... it's on hiatus and it's unsatisfying to read if you're expecting ANY SORT OF CONCLUSION. I will keep it... more>> somewhat vague, but this story might as well be called "Ultimate wing (wo) man Reika-sama makes her appearance!" The girl is practically a living breathing narrator... in the bad way. She shows passing interest in various men, and there's some foreshadowing of romance, but literally nothing ever happens for her. They keep using as an excuse the fact that she looks so perfectly unapproachable, but towards the chapter I am on she has shown up on public transit multiple times and whatnot, yet... no one hits on her?

Did an actual sheltered rich girl write this? I understand in shoujo (and many Japanese genres really) there is some leeway for unrealistically kind and/or submissive people, but Reika getting no action at all was... kind of deflating my sugary marshmallow fun towards the end.

I suppose as an excuse is that this is a shoujo manga world, so basically only the two main leads are given much of any attention at all, such as the entire thing was programmed. Oh well. I don't know whether to give this 3 or 4. I think I'll bump it up to 4, which is rare for me. I did at least enjoy reading what I did, vapid as it was. I just couldn't keep going. I think its strongest point is that in terms of competence level and overall interactions, the protagonist is far from a Mary Sue. She legitimately is jut perfectly average. This is very rare. <<less

This is a light novel. I mean that it's light even for a light novel. It's so light that it can make you wonder, "Wait, isn't this too light?" As a guy I read very few shoujo novels, but I kept falling deeper and deeper in this rabbit hole. This really reinforced the idea of a reincarnated lazy geek still being a lazy geek. And looking at Reika having body issues and struggling with dieting given her passion for food and being too lazy to exercise was way too relatable.

Overall... more>> a much better deconstruction of the villainous genre than novels like Commonsense of a Duke's daughter where they just turn the MC into another Mary Sue heroine with a different capture target, or Hamefura where she makes friends like breathing. <<less

Has there been no updates from the author still? I hope he/she are doing well 🙏

I am so crushed that rumors said this was discontinued since the last update was 2017... and just when I felt the romance budding. Enjou-samaaa!! I feel like you're starting to move and are luring her in with that cute brother of yours. And now we can't even go to the fireworks festival 😵😭!! At this rate, Reika-sama will really be left at the Forever Alone Village 😭😭😭

------

Stopped at 238 last aug2020, then kept... more>> coming back here without updates. Then LAST NIGHT (Jan30, 2021), I found chapters until 299. God. I didn't get to sleep until past 3am but it was worth it. Hope this doesn't get discontinued. I love Reika and everything else here. It's a fun way of 'politicking' in a school system.

--------------

Hands down. One of the best shoujo genre out there. I love that the MC is being the ideal lady and keeping that image as the empress of the school. She's level headed though pretty dense at times. She's really funny, easygoing and I love that people/friends who know her weirdness accept her and still see her as the empress she is.

I hope to see more chapters. I appreciate the hard work everyone involved is doing for this series but please author and translators, continue doing the great job you have been doing and never stop ?. Hope to read more of this. <<less

Read the last chapter and you will understand why this isn't 5 stars unless you're a masochist.

The whole novel is exactly like that chapter and you can go into the raws and find the same thing every 10 chapters give or take.

Quite frankly it would have been a much better novel if around chapter 100 she had of said "Well if not being the villainess means living my life as a punching bag, how bad can it be being villainess ?"

This is a sweet story about a girl who is reborn as the villainess of a manga she had read in her previous life. Reika remembers her previous life when she is about to enter primary school. Contrary to some other stories this one spends a lot of time on Reika growing up and meeting (and trying to avoid) lots of the important characters from the manga before the original heroine even shows up. Reika's main ambition is to avoid the bad end for her and her family that appeared... more>> in the manga.

I really like the way her character from her previous life is still present and she has some problems acting like a good Ojou-sama. Though what Reika never realises is that most people do perceive her to be just that. While she is usually a bit of a coward it's truly entertaining when she snaps and becomes fearsome.

One of the reasons I enjoyed this story more than some others, is definitely thanks to the superb translator. The translation notes are always really interesting, wherever possible puns are transformed into english puns and explained after the chapter as well, and there are loooots of pictures of all the kind of food items present in the story. Don't read when you're hungry (: <<less

I'm so glad I picked this novel up again!

While our MC is a bit (too) ditzy (in a lovable way, not s*upid) and takes a quite a few verbal hits and snide remarks from time to time, without standing up for herself, she is very real and slowly comes to accept her new life as an absolute born bred elite, albeit a bit troubled. She's very sincere with the people around her and is full of love and fun, taking in the best of both worlds as a commoner at... more>> heart and as an elite through her environment.

I very much like how she interacts with the other characters in the story and vice versa. No character is just an extra or a filler and has a big hand in how she develops. As they grow, she grows, on the road to adulthood - be it love, friendships, frustrations, doubts, family bonds or other things that teens, and humans in general, go through before finding themselves.

This novel is just wonderful and hilarious! #Vivaforeveralonevillage <<less
