I really like it. The smut, the action, the feelings. I like it a lot. You won't regret reading this. Some things are unrealistic but can be overlooked, no biggie for me. Overall, I like the story since I came back to write a review after a while and I still remember and has good feelings about this story so yeah... it should be a good one.

If you want a quick read, this is good. Personally, I didn't invest much into this, and the characters were kind of forgettable. I appreciate the effort on the translators part, especially the spicy bits~

I would like to point out that for one: the MC isn't useless or s*upid as some of the other reviewers have said. I'd also like to argue that just because he was a Mercenary in his previous life, does not mean he's a genius. Like... explain to me how someone who kills people for a... more>> living = high brain power? I could go on a lengthy talk about this but tbh, people need to stop this belief of = if they be killing machines in their previous life, they must have been OP to the max. The fact that MC wasn't "perfect OP MC" was what made him charming, and relatable.

Also, I was terribly disappointed with our ML. He's so f*cking boring. I like to read CNs for that possessive, needy ML that wants to literally superglue themselves to the MC. And I was underwhelmed with him... like excuse me, you call this possessive? No, no, no honey, this is like when you read your first introduction to the "possessive" tag and think an ML pulling the "you're mine" speech is possessive. U-G-H.

Obviously, make of my words what you will. I take reviews with a grain of salt, because as mentioned before, my impression of MC was completely different from other people's. <<less

The plotline of this was pretty good, but it seemed like the author got a little lost and left wholes throughout. There are several places where things were dropped or didn't have follow thru. I still have 2 side tracks and a bonus track to read but the links are broken.

Spoiler

Some of the things that didn't follow thru: 1.) Mason/Haley not knowing Noah's relation with Zii when Noah showed up at Mason's old apartment, yet clearly saying in an earlier chapter that Noah had power within Zii. That entire scene didn't make sense since Mason was working for Zii when he was a body guard. Noah should have been fine if confronted by Zii agents. 2.) Why would Ashley stay with Aaron after getting out of the bunker and knowing they couldn't open the safe? I think the author was going to make it like a CP like relationship since there was detail about how Ashley was looking at Aaron before they went on the mission, but didn't follow thru. As it is, it would have made sense for Ashley to escape the bunker with Aaron, but go back to Zii to explain what happened since she seemed to respect and admire Mason up to this point. 3.) MAJOR: It was not explained fully what ritual Haley did in the basement or more about Rachael who sold "it" to him and has an accessory for it. For Mason not to even be curious about it when he just jumped into someone else's body was odd. 4.) Given Mason's occupation, why didn't he look into whom Haley had relationships with to avoid troubles, considering his new body was weak? 5) What was the harm in telling Phil that Haley was now Mason and what did Noah tell his parents about his relationship with "Haley"?

When the same plot point is told from different POVs, its slightly different as if the writer decided to add a detail that wasn't thought of before at the original writing of the pp.

Noah's abduction as a child from both Noah's and Mason's POV had different details. With that, how could you not hear the person knocking walk into another stall when your adrenaline is pumping and you're on high alert (kidnapper).

[collapse]

I still have 3 sections/chapters to go and will edit if I find this review to be off, but I like the story line but the holes throughout were a deterrent. <<less

Short, smutty and angsty story. MC saved ML in his past life, and after his death, was reborn into an actor's body who almost died from drug and s*x addiction. Said body had confessed to ML in a very public (and unsightly) manner which caused lots of bad media coverage. ML is your typical golden boy loved by all media (also because he's rich with good family background). The story revolved around ML searching for the old MC and inevitably meeting MC (new) time and time again and thus suspecting... more>> if MC had reborn. Overall, pretty angsty and smutty with some non-con initially that's not overly serious, but still, warning! I quite like the story since it's pretty interesting, but it's not overall special and I've seen such a plot before. Nonetheless, it's enjoyable and I do recommend it as a quick read.

(Translations were a little confusing especially initially coz there's a lot of first-person "I" even though the novel was written in 3rd person. 'Thoughts' and "speech" also seemed to be mixed up which makes it hard to understand, not sure if that was due to translations or the raws.) <<less

I love this novel, the first two chapter was slow.. but the third and fourth chapter are more steamy and become good. Mason seems to like Hayley Body... it is like reading chinese novel with similar plot but the surrounding is different

This one is one of my favorites.

The ML may be a bit psycho but compared to others, he's alright and it doesn't feel like the relationship is toxic but just what both partys need. The MC tends to be ruth- and thoughtless regarding himself and the ML yandere tendencies compensate that. Both have problems which are relateable. While the ML was alright I really liked the MC. He's just badass. And his new body... oh là là quite some nice scenes because of this one. I wondered if him being... more>> the bottom would have worked out as his old self XD The juicy scenes also let you notice, that this isn't a chinese novel, which tend to frustrate me to no end. This damn crabs!

The story... well maybe you could have done better there, but my focus was more on the MC dealing with this new situation and the relationship and it feels as this should be the focus so. Sligthly dark but really good novel, I loved it, give it a try! <<less

"You killed my god".

This sentence alone justified why the ML is like that. Exaggeration? Pfft. I don't think so. Most of the readers here saw the ML's sudden change of behaviour or character development as something exaggerated. The change wasn't sudden at all.

Do remember that he didn't have any romantic or s*xual desire towards the MC after all those years (which is what he thought) until his possessiveness was pushed to the limit. He's just keeping it inside and when he realized that something he truly wanted, who left him... more>> twice and already died once, came back to life and was within his grasp then of course he will behave like that.

Actually, I am quite impressed of how the ML respects the MC. He didn't hold him back and tie him down. Unlike what the other readers have commented here, the ML didn't threaten the MC that he will kill himself if he leaves him. ML was just voicing his thoughts. And mind you, he has mental issues. Who wouldn't be fcked up in the head and feel like dying from the thought of your most important person might die anytime, that you don't have the right to keep him safe by your side, that you don't have a say in everything he does? Yes, his thoughts are very obsessive and possessive but it's only until there. Sighhh. I really pity the ML here. Unlike the usual yandere MLs that I read, Noah didn't have the thought of "You are mine alone". And for our MC, I just want to explain to everyone that it is normal to have vague feelings, to be unsure. How can he just conclude that he loves the ML? How do you even describe love anyway? Isn't what the MC explained clear enough? It's enough for us readers to understand what he thinks of Noah. And I quote his conclusion, "In the world, if you said the greatest emotion in a relationship would be love, then this was truly love.". There! Moreover, I agree on the part that this novel was very, very short which made their romantic relationship development seem to be rushed. But if you'll think about it both MC and ML already had this unknown feeling and attachment towards each other since a long time.

There were chapters that I couldn't stop grinning out of excitement and thrill. The MC's expertise with guns and in action left me breathless. They said that the MC's intelligence seems to degrade as the chapters progressed and as he spent more time with ML. But do understand that not all MCs will be indifferent or their behaviors stay consistent. There are a lot of people in real life whose attitudes change depending on the people they are with. It's quite normal to let your guard down or even look s*upid in front of someone you're affectionate with.

Oh did I mention how cool the MC is? Yes, he's so fckng cool. Haha. Not really badass and savage but I really like his temperament and how he handled the situation. It's just very disappointing that this is so damn short! T^T

Anywayyyyy, I also agree that this is very similar to At the End of the Road. I enjoyed reading this. But this still can't be compared to how good the novel Professional Body Double is. And even though the translation was not topnotch but still it didn't affect the quality of the story. Very grateful to the translators and proofreaders for making it possible for all of us to understand and enjoy this novel.

Since I did enjoy reading it and gave me that thrill I felt when I was still reading Skip Beat so I am giving this a 4.5 rating.

P.S.: The Xanax made me cry🙃 <<less

I can enjoy complicated and dark pairings but only if they're written well. While the context of this novel felt promising, the romance... turned out quite bland. The couple in this novel came together in the least interesting way and barely put in the work to develop their relationship in order to justify the novel's sweet ending.

A lot of other 2-3 star rating reviews cover the same issues I had with the writing: disappointing character development/regression, sporadic romance development, uninteresting story beats, and wasted potential. I won't go into that... more>> further, but I had to write from the perspective of someone who also typically would not mind a chaotic ML.

This story has a lot of wasted potential but it is a passable read if you aren't precious about the characters and the development of the main character's relationship. The MC had his moments, as did some side characters, and the premise was promising enough for me to hope things would get better up until the last few chapters, but when I realised how short the story was in general, the disappointment fully settled in.

Side note: Despite my disappointment in the light novel, I appreciate the work of the translators. I could see the effort put into their localisation of terms. <<less

At first, Noah’s reactions seemed ambiguous or too over the top. But flashbacks and characters’ inner thoughts provided good, acceptable explanations on why they were like that.

Aside from brushing on psychological aspects, it’s like a roller coaster of scenes, from downright grubby dirty to ridiculous, to touchingly sweet.

I understand why in the end, a lot of reviews were 5 stars. It was almost completely satisfying. If only the last 2 sidetracks were not missing. (Pls post them ??)

This is so. soooo. goood!!!

The MC is really badass. Although he seems a bit detached, he also cates very deeply for the ML. And the origin of his "type" (in women) made mt heart go awww. Throughout the story, whatever he decided on, he stood by it.

The ML was not all right in the head, but he loves MC so much. I found it both romantic and tragic that the world without MC is a world he couldnt accept. ML has serious issues, and I'm not sure anyone --not even... more>> MC-- knew the extent of it. I wish there were more sidetrack exploring his abandonment issues. I like how Mason does not shy away from the ML, regardless if it were bedroom stuff or serious talks.

I also think that one more avenue the extras could have explored was the original Haley's fascination with witchcraft stuff, which I'm pretty sure played a role in why Mason took over his body. Wasn't it implied heavily, but not confirmed? And I also thought that Haley could have been made to an even more sympathetic character...

The side characters were all also pretty fun. Phil, Tony, Chase, and Vick. And, ughk, I want to know how the stalker sidetrack ends, but the main story as it is is enough, I guess.... <<less

It's not bad. Tbh I really really liked the premise so I was hoping for a bit better (Noah suspected too early..) but given the length of the novel it's still pretty decent.

I like where the author was trying to take MC and ML's characters. I don't feel like it QUITE got there yet, but I like the idea of it. Plot was also pretty decent, nothing really in the story to complain about. It wasn't amazing, but still a decent read.

The writing / translation is a little iffy though,... more>> not that it was hard to understand but the flow was a little weird. Just get used to it lol <<less

The concept is pretty interesting, and I like how the MC isn't too much of a pushover in the beginning, but at the same time I do have some qualms with his origins as a high-spec, skilled mercenary, because his actions often contradict the expectations you would have, given his background -- though admittedly he's living the life of a 'regular guy' now, so...

I do wish there was more focus on his origins and previous relationships, such as his wife and daughter. It's nice reading how his current career as... more>> an actor slowly develops though, and the mini movie scenes and dialogue are pretty well-written. The director is hands down my favourite character in this novel, he never fails to make me laugh at his ridiculous antics.

I also feel like the relationships between the MC and the side characters aren't very fleshed out, though given the length I suppose it can't be helped. The ML is also pretty psychotic, which especially shows in the R scenes. Quite a lot of dub-con also occurs with not much resolution, but those scenes are fairly skippable. Hovers around a 3.5 for me. <<less

This novel takes a unusual take on rebirth trope. It is more like body changing but well I like it. They are many sub plots that makes you want for more and the way the characters were portrayed were astounding.

For the ML

he was described in story that have few mental issues and I dont really know myself if I liked him or not, since his actions and personality keeps me going back and forth to that fine line whether I hated him or I loved him. To be honest I cant decipher the thoughts of ML. But one thing for sure, he was obsessed with Mason

[collapse]

But the MC
Spoiler

I really loved him. The way he is indifferent and somewhat softhearted (to the ML) at the same time.

[collapse]

The only thing that really makes me take a few steps back from this story is the smexy scenes. Since it was between the line of dub-con and r*pe.

Spoiler

it was really hard for me to take when the first time they did it. Especially since the MC is straight and he had a wife and a daughter (thats already dead). Although the way the author wrote it was hot. It seema r*pe to me even though the MC's current body is le*d. It just *shivers* feels wrong. I think all of the R scenes are like that. Well it feels like that.

But if you can handle it. This is truly an amazing story to read. <<less

This novel is very interesting with how the MC actually got caught that he (transmigrated?) went into another body. ML caught the MC even when he went into another body. Though it is a little skeptical, it was good.

It would have been more understandable if the ML knew the mc's quirkes and stuff, but he was a mercanery so it's understandable how he won't know much. The MC is more realistic in how he tries to adapt to his new body and new lifestyle. And then there is the ML that tries to reason that the MC isn't the MC, when he transfered into another body. It's sweet how they are eachother's strength and weakness. The translation is also great in convaying all of this.

Spoiler

though the MC only had about 2 times when he had s*x with the ml, it was quite detailed. ≫~<

[collapse]

Spoiler

i wish the author wrote more about the time when the MC met the ML again as a bodyguard, when ML was in his teens and after MC rescued the ML when he was like 7 years old. And also the MC heard that the ML lost his memory when he was kidnapped so how did he regain it?

I have to say, before this I never liked any BL smut reads since Viewfinder. The plot was interesting. And it does give you cliff hangers.

The MC is so likeable, but ML is... err, I guess he's too well affectionate (?). But anyways, it's a nice read for those who are trying to find BL with a bit of suspense and smut so yeah it's worth my 5 stars.

I seriously love the story concept!

Unlike most stories, the transmigator's back story serves as a major plotline.

Strangely enough, even I don't know why I can't give this story 5 star...

Is it the weird sound effect korean story made? Or the random interchanging use of ' and " which confuses me of which sentence is thought and which is spoken out loud? Or perhaps it's the fact that this story violates 'safe, sane, consensual' at almost all R scene : (?

Spoiler

Don't get me wrong, I love forceful lead and bd*m even, but...

Few chapters in, we know ML had mental issues and it shows @_@

MC is straight, and we know he really wants to keep being straight, sadly his new body and ML didn't allow that...

For the R scene, MC repeatedly begging ML to stop, and he didn't! And to make it worse, ML knew MC didn't truly like being f-ed like that, but he still does it anyway! >__<) ;

Placing the 'It's not r*pe if the body enjoys it! Who cares what the mind wants?' Issues aside, I don't like the convenient events either.

You would think that if someone had dealings with darker/less than legal side, they would invest on good security or at least have enough self-awareness to not get randomly mugged, something which the MC points out ==) a

[collapse]

In the end, most of my complains won't be there if only the author didn't make events where MC thought/said things against it. <<less

The set-up of having a hard-core mercenary accidentally possess the body of a flamboyantly gay druggie and public toilet weakling who is well-hated by the populace is really funny to read. Haley was used by his family members and pushed around quite a bit, but Mason is not putting up with any of that. I enjoyed reading how Mason turned the apparent underdog into an up-and-coming celebrity star.

If you aren't interested in BL, you can skip those scenes and still have a good time reading this series. The plot is... more>> fun and a touch dramatic. The characters keep cracking me up, especially those on the set. <<less

kill the lights was an interesting take on the reincarnation trope. I think it told its story quite well - it didnt drag on unnecessarily, had enough content and sub-plots to develop the story & relationships, and concluded in a natural way. its definitely not a think piece - personally, it was a nice, light read that wont leave you wanting closure.

characters were likable too - I honestly really liked mason as the protagonist, if only because he was at the very least capable and in control of himself. he... more>> was, for the most part, level headed and mature, relative to other mcs, and I found myself rooting for him a lot. his story is not all smooth sailing, and there were bumps along the way that he had to face, but watching him overcome them made me proud of him lol. u go, mason.

noah was alright as a love interest. the romance was... there, but it couldve been better. not much to say re: s*x scenes because translated ones always read awkwardly to me personally so I skipped those. still quite a nice relationship because I felt they were, roughly, on equal grounds? and they do seem to care for the other a lot.

overall, id reccommend it if you were thinking of picking it up. its a killer time waster, so to speak <<less
