Chase C. Miller is an actor with chillingly glowing purple eyes that could violently take one’s heart and a beauty that draws everyone’s eyes. After spending a heated night with him, Josh was imprinted behind his ear and he now had a secret that must never be found. It was none other than the fact that he was pregnant with Chase’s child!

A few years later, Josh, who had been hired once again as his bodyguard, is astonished by his appalling character. Despite this, every time they meet eyes and stand close together, Josh cannot seem to be able to stop his heart from beating faster.

“Oops, are you all right?”
“You f*cking bastard, how dare you—”
“Yes, I somehow dared to touch my client’s d*ck. I sincerely apologize.”

I quite liked this. I read it first and then went to check out "Kiss Me, Liar" after because it was clear there was more story going on. Gotta say, glad I stumbled on this "side story" first. If I had read Kiss Me, Liar first I don't think I would have given this one a chance (KML is very angsty and dark and somewhat toxic). Thankfully Kiss Me If You Can is pretty fluffy. At first I wasn't sure since the ML (Chase) is rather crazy at the start... more>> and I just couldn't see Josh (MC) getting back together with him, but their relationship evolved in a fairly believable manner (and ended up pretty fluffy). Both of them are very much about consent/treating their partner right so it was nice to see a relationship of equals once it evolved beyond employee/employer. Josh is a sweetheart and devoted father, while Chase has some past trauma that comes out as the story progresses. There is some drama going on, but not to the point it gets tiresome. Also, the way all the bodyguards interact with each other was pretty fun to read. It's clear they have all worked together for a long time and trust each other. I actually liked this enough I intend to purchase a physical copy once WordExcerpt sorts their publishing deals (according to their site they worked out a deal with a bigger name publisher who will be handling physical copies of all their stories in the near future). <<less

Truthfully, I really loved Kiss Me, Liar which is the first novel of this universe. I know many hated it but for me it was a very good manhwa/ novel. And since I loved KML, I was really interested in reading Josh's story ever since I heard he had one.

At first I was really curious about Chase (a person KML didn't talk much about) so I was astonished when he appeared in the first chapters portrayed as a violent and narcissistic extreme alpha. Josh disliked the man very much so... more>> it made me wonder what really happened between them. Surely, nothing was what I expected but I loved getting to know Josh and Chase.

I love that they have a healthy relationship based on consent compared to KML. They talk to each other and their fights and misunderstandings weren't big or dragged on for chapters. Moreover, I love how Josh "displines" Chase whenever he does something bad without getting mad or shout at him but trying to make him apologize and see that was wrong to do. They love each other deeply. They are sincere with each other and their sweet moments made me fall in love with them.

Ever since finding out about Chase's past trauma, I loved how Josh behaved and tried to help Chase by being there for him and by loving him.

And despite how Chase is portrayed at the beginning, I love how he is, how he laughs and smiles whenever he is with Josh, how he tried so hard to bond with his son even before he knew it was his just because he was a part of Josh, the one he loved the most. He is sincere, innocent, loving and gentle. And Josh is his everything.

I remember how Josh didn't want to get married anytime soon or have another child but after falling in love with Chase, he changed his mind because he knew he wanted to spend his life with him.

I hope this will get an official translation since I had to read volumes 2-5 on google play books in Korean and use google translate. I need a better translation and I'll surely reread them again and support the author for such a mastepiece. As an avid reader of romance and BL, I have to say this is my favourite one. <<less

I know the author from the adaptations of Kiss Me Liar and Roses and Champagne, which are works I'm not a fan of. However, I decided to give this novel a try after seeing comments describing Chase as a "green flag"... Something I found hard to believe based on the early chapters of the manhwa. To my surprise, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Early on, Chase ... more>>
Spoiler

tries to kill Josh a couple of times. He's psychologically broken and morally shaken, and honestly, who wouldn't be with brothers like his?

[collapse]

Josh, on the other hand, is the ultimate power bottom. He's physically agile, mentally strong (when pheromones aren't involved), and completely thirsts over Chase. Reading about what Josh wants to do with Chase had me thinking, "Mas que v3lha s4fada!" (What a perv!). Honestly, only someone like Josh could handle Chase, because despite being gorgeous, Chase is a complete mess.

Pete, their son, is adorable; he inherited his father's looks, but I hope he takes after the other dad's personality more.

Spoiler

One thing I appreciated is that there's no r4pe in the story. In fact, Chase is deeply disturbed by the possibility that he might have ab*sed Josh during their first encounter, but Josh reassures him that it was consensual. Josh is the only person Chase has ever been with.

[collapse]

Overall, I enjoyed the main story, though I haven't read the side stories yet.

I actually like this more than the kiss me liar. There's reason why Chase act that way. He isn't playboy like seme in kiss me liar. He is looking for the man he shared his night with (Joshua). Joshua is not a weak s*upid crybaby uke. He raised his son on his own. He is tall, handsome, a bodyguard. And he isn't afraid to get into a brawl with Chase even tho Chase is an alpha.

It's not as dark and as toxic as kiss me liar. Seme on kiss me... more>> liar was belittling r*pe attempt on uke and used uke as s*x buddy even tho uke likes him. In here the seme (Chase) isn't a playboy. Even if his family really did send Chase to s*x party, but Chase didn't like it. He was suffering with his rut alone. But as same as Zig other novel. Chase also has toxic seme characteristic such as violence and cruelty. I read 3 works of this author and I think the author really like toxic seme.

I bought the novel first volume and was looking forward for the 2nd and 3rd but the license was canceled and no translation team pick it up. I only know from kiss me liar, Joshua and Chase will end up together and have 2nd children. <<less

Low 3 stars: Cold vicious apathetic alpha actor (complete with traumatic past) x family-oriented caring omega-disguised-as-beta bodyguard, with the immediate setup that a few years in the past, the alpha was insane with his rut and knocked up the bodyguard, who never informed the alpha that he became pregnant and gave birth to a son. The bones of a mid- to upper-middle-tier somewhat-generic-but-could-be-fun story are there, but are marred by uneven pacing, unbelievable plot points, and not quite enough character interactions and relationship development to justify falling in love. I... more>> read the three main volumes, did not read the two side story volumes. The officially licensed translation is... kind of odd, in that the translation is technically fine, but weirdly formal and, like, nobody IRL talks like they're narrators in a formal piece of historical fiction, which is what the dialogue in the licensed version is like. Literally some of the first lines of dialogue in the first chapter are "Did you catch a glimpse of his countenance? The man who just exited?" and "But he is undeniably handsome" and "Indeed? His back was certainly a sight to behold." Was this written in the 1800s by Jane Austen?

On the other hand, the BL Snacks translation is not great, ranging from okay to mediocre to outright awful (it's the worst when it comes to any scenes involving action, be it guns blazing action or bedtimey action). The first couple of chapters are in awkward mostly-present-tense and then all subsequent chapters are mostly past tense with slipups here and there, as well as the occasional wrong pronoun use, sometimes awkward phrasing, and strange grammar. Names are inconsistent as well, such as Pittman/Peteman/Pete Man, and Flame/Plame/Frame, often varying within the same chapter! Some chapters read like straight MTL. Honestly, I think the quality got much worse as it went along.

Buckle in as the spoilered parts go into a lot of depth, so if you're curious but not sure this story may be worth your time or just want to read how dumb the action sequences are, check those parts out.

The omegaverse setup is a tad different and a bit unclear, as instead of an alpha permanently marking an omega via a bite to the back of the neck, marking is done via a bite to the ear, and it appears that omegas can also mark alphas. And that at least for omegas, marks function to cancel out (or severely diminish) the effects of all other pheromones except for the marking alpha, but the mark can also be overwritten by another alpha's bite—whereas for alphas, it seems like omegas marking them is permanent? Huh. There are a few other omegaverse tweaks as well.

The omega MC Josh manages to present himself as an unusually attractive beta thanks to his natural lack of and indifference to pheromones and a dedicated medication regimen, as nobody will hire an omega as a bodyguard. He's competent, smart, tough, and adores his toddler son Pete whom he's raising by himself. But of course his mother has a generic chronic illness that lands her in the hospital and neither Josh nor his adult beta sister have enough savings to cover the medical expenses, so Josh is forced to accept a job guarding the very same vicious-tempered alpha that knocked him up in the past. Josh works for a private security company and is part of a team of five, so he's not the sole or main bodyguard, which I appreciated compared to other stories.

The story is set in California, USA, so everyone has western names that thankfully don't sound too forced and the way they speak and act isn't overtly Korean (although the celebrity interactions and media def read like typical Korean/Asian web novel celebrity/idol interactions than western reality lol), which I also appreciated. Unfortunately, some of the plot stuff I just could not suspend my disbelief for and while it wouldn't fly whether it was set in South Korea (or anywhere else for that matter), the fact that it's set in the US and I'm an American means it was especially egregious to me. More on that later.

I enjoyed Josh's plotline (up to a point), what with him caring so much for his son and regrettably having to be separated from him due to work protecting his unaware babydaddy, and wavering between his unfortunate attraction to Chase Miller and being repulsed by his violent, rude, and erratic behavior. The novel does a good job of portraying physical attraction/lust on Josh's part and not necessarily romance/love. Although I will say that I found it a little weird and kind of ick that his later romantic attraction/affection seems to be based on how similar Chase physically appears to their son, like when Chase pouts or doesn't like something, Josh just can't help but stroke his hair because it reminds him so much of his son.

Unfortunately, by the end of the story, I couldn't really figure out why Josh ended up falling in love with Chase—it's not like they spent any real time together outside of him being a discreet bodyguard in the background or, of course, later on bedroom activities. The "love" seemed solely based on the fact that Chase reminds him of his toddler son, which again is a weird basis for falling in love. It wasn't creepy due to the way it was portrayed as sort of more like fondness and seeing him as cute, but it made me uncomfortable more than once as, you know, there's a time and a place for everything, and maybe sweaty post-coitus really ain't the time to be gazing at your lover and fondly comparing his sleeping face to your child's.

Chase's eventual attraction to Josh was also unbalanced as I couldn't really see why he was interested in him beyond Josh occasionally standing up to him—which didn't stop Chase from physically abusing Josh (pistolwhipping him in the beginning and later on punching him in the face due to jealousy), and said ab*se was... uh, well, an extreme red flag that was hard for me to overlook. The power dynamic is a bit odd because Chase is the client and Josh the bodyguard so Josh can try to dodge but can't always fight back (though sometimes he gives as good as he gets regardless) but Chase's habit of violence makes it hard for me to see him as a partner for Josh, much less as a presumable eventual father to a toddler.

I generally liked the side characters/other bodyguards, who had their own personalities and a couple of side plots to themselves. There weren't many other side characters besides them, and I guess Chase's long-suffering female secretary/manager and Chase's evil brother, and Josh's sister Emma. There are a couple of small cameos from Kiss Me Liar too.

Where this novel really falls down is the action sequences. They make no f***ing sense whatsoever—sometimes logistically, sometimes literally I can't even parse what's happening. For example, they go to somewhere in a city where Chase has a photoshoot and a filmed interview in the same multistory building—which just happens to have a helicopter parked on the roof available for them to commandeer, and which Josh is qualified to fly because he flew helicopters in the military before. Why is there a helipad and helicopter on the roof of this building, to whom does it belong, and how did they get the keys to it???

At one point, there's a movie action sequence being filmed involving multiple explosions, and the two leads (Chase and the female movie lead) are apparently just... left alone in the soon-to-be-exploded building that they're supposed to dramatically run out of? But there are no cameras inside with them, no safety or regular crew, literally they're just in there by themselves. Even allowing for some dumb reason that they don't have stunt doubles, where is everyone on the set of this multimillion-dollar production? Why are they all outside and away from the two film leads? Something of course goes wrong and then everyone is in a panic trying to find the two leads—wtf?

Later, something happens on set and due to plot reasons, they can't call 911 or take an ambulance so Chase's private security team and secretary have to take him to the hospital... which is a three hour drive? Where exactly are they? The filming location was never mentioned, but suddenly there's a huge dramatic and dumb action sequence and they have to go off road and get lost in the desert. Excuse me, what desert? Look, author, I know California has its share of deserts as well as palm trees and Hollywood, but what exactly is happening in this movie that necessitates filming next door to an endless desert (but not actually filming in the desert, the desert isn't mentioned until they suddenly drive off road), three hours away from the nearest hospital?

For more about how incredibly dumb this particular span of chapters is:

Spoiler

For one thing, the previous chapter is them on the road to the hospital, apparently just to get Chase checked out because him overdosing on meds and going catatonic isn't a big deal because he's a dominant alpha and overdoses don't affect him that much and he kinda half snapped out of it. They get to the hospital, talk with a shady doctor, then leave and run into a suspicious accident on the road—which turns out to be an ambush. The next chapter is them literally being chased by other cars and dodging sprays of bullets as Josh has to weave the car in and out of traffic and avoid machine-gun-wielding semi-truck drivers trying to crush their car between the trucks, resulting in him having to do enough fancy driving to put the Fast & the Furious franchise to shame, before being forced off road into the aforementioned desert where they end up eventually escaping but running out of gas and lost in the desert.

All of this came out of nowhere and was pretty jarring considering the pace and focus of the story beforehand. And also, like, way too 80s/90s-action-movie clichéd. I felt like I was reading a crossover fanfic of this novel with Terminator 2.

It was also pretty weird to me how the bodyguards whipped out their guns and were firing back, all guns blazing, because... again, yeah, private security sure, okay, but I think the legal repercussions of all this in the US would be, uh, really harsh. Where's the California Highway Patrol during all this? Where are the regular cops? How many other cars are there on the freeway or streets, as I'm not sure where they actually are, and it's so underdescribed I'm not sure how much other traffic there is? And this is happening in broad daylight! Literally it says one of the truck drivers is shooting at them with a machine gun! (Depending on the translation you read, mind you.)

Anyway, once lost in the desert, the other bodyguard (they were split into two cars, Chase and Josh and the head bodyguard in one car, and the other bodyguards and secretary in another car, and they got separated on the road) decides to walk out into the desert with apparently no cellphone and no bearings and no supplies in the hopes of finding help (the story doesn't address this but I'm assuming that they don't have reception out in the desert, but that's a big assumption as the story literally doesn't mention their phones at all). Chase and Josh remain with the broken-down fuel-less car.

Blah blah, at night the desert gets very cold (this is true), and suddenly in the night a pack of coyotes decides to attack them (this is dumb). For one thing, the guys are inside the car, which only has a broken back window. But omg, the coyotes are sooo fierce and proud and think these two humans in a metal box are easy prey so they keep trying to get through the broken window to attack them! Mind you, because details were sketchy, it's possible that while Chase was in the back seat, Josh was outside the car still because he'd been trying to exercise to warm up—but even if so, he was literally right next to the car and could've just gotten inside and closed the door.

Somehow I doubt a pack of coyotes would have the courage and resourcefulness to try to jump onto the back of the car to attack them through the back window. But that's exactly what they do, and Josh has to fight them off using his bare hands and a wrench from the toolkit in the trunk while Chase has a panic attack and is unable to do anything before dramatically fainting while the coyotes take bites out of Josh.

When Chase wakes up, Josh is covered in blood from his multiple bite wounds to his arms and apparently his face too because at one point Chase wonders if Josh's beautiful face will be scarred, and instead of trying to use his clothes as bandages or tie a tourniquet or something, Josh's bright idea to stop his massive bleeding was to sneak cigarettes off of Chase while he was unconscious and smoke them since the nicotine will help constrict his blood vessels.

I... I don't think that's how it works, Josh.

[collapse]

Later on, something happens that really should have taken at least a few chapters, but was instigated and resolved within a single chapter with no further followup as it goes from immediate resolution straight into relationship drama.

Spoiler

So in the very beginning of the story when the security company accepts Chase as a client, they're told that there's been a kidnapping threat against Chase by a cult that wants to imprison him and sell his valuable dominant alpha s**en to the highest bidder. Uh. Sure.

Aside from the previously mentioned BULLETHELL DESERT VAMPIRE SURVIVOR chapters, nothing further happens on this front until nearly the end of volume 3, where Chase is abruptly kidnapped and rescued within I'm pretty sure it was a single chapter, and afterward he basically just goes home and has it out with Josh after discovering during the rescue that Josh is an omega, because his earpiece got knocked off during the fight and the tape on his ear coincidentally also came off and suddenly everyone in the room noticed he had a mark on his ear despite, you know, a bunch of h*rny attempted-r*pist terrorist omegas fighting tooth and nail with each other (to try to be the one to get with Chase) and with the bodyguard rescue team. The kidnapping is never mentioned again and there is zero explanation or description of any kind of aftermath or followup.

[collapse]

The alpha Chase Miller's violent nature is... well, pretty violent and somehow it came across as far-fetched to me, and I willingly admit yet again it's because I live in the US and know that sh*t wouldn't actually fly here. (Mind you, even if this had been set in South Korea or Japan or the UK or anywhere really, I'd still find it far-fetched, it's just literally closer to home here.) Like, pulling out a gun and shooting at a paparazzo just outside the gate of his house would be a huge scandal and all of Chase's work would be put on hold at best and most likely entirely canceled. Him pistolwhipping his security guards and throwing items at their heads, well, that's private security on his private property so that I could see him getting away with, but then there's a really extreme thing that happens during an interview—

Spoiler

An arrogant new model-turned-actor who has an inferiority complex deliberately provokes Chase during a joint interview for their new movie, saying a bunch of really awful stuff that yeah, no, he'd be instantly canceled for ranging from insulting Chase by saying he has no talent and can't actually act, he's just standing around being pretty, and all his massive success is solely due to being a dominant alpha, and btw there's rumors that he sleeps with dogs lol is he really that into bestiality and if so, why doesn't he go to Denmark where he can sleep with dog prostit**es? (Yeah, nobody stops the guy running his mouth, neither his manager who may or may not be present, and certainly not the interviewer, who is simply excited because he wants there to be a scandal so the interview will go viral.)

So Chase endures it all with a poker face, then gets up, walks over to the guy, and kisses him in front of the cameras and crew—and bites his tongue off. And then spits the tongue out and laughs wildly as the guy screams and bleeds everywhere and people call for an ambulance.

And Chase is allowed to just get into a car and go back home. Uh, hello, s*xual and physical assault charges? Possibly attempted mu*der, as you can totally bleed to death if your tongue is cut/bitten off? Where is this place's own security? Nobody tries to stop him from leaving or call the police? He did this all while the cameras were rolling! It wasn't a live interview as far as I'm aware but his attack has literally been recorded from multiple angles. His career would be finished.

But nothing happens. He just continues on like normal, going to filming and etc. The incident is briefly referenced apparently months later when his secretary tells him that oh btw that actor whose tongue you bit off has finally recovered from surgery and is threatening to sue if you don't pay for his medical expenses and additional compensation. Uh. I don't think he'd wait months to demand money, I think he would have immediately filed charges for physical and s*xual assault and landed Chase's a** in jail as there is video proof of what happened.

[collapse]

As for why Chase is so neurotic and violent, well... it's one of Those Shocking Reveals that I kind of feel like has more shock/disgust value than any kind of realism or plot, so it actually loses some of its impact because it's so out there. Like there's the initial shock value, but then it wears off and I have questions and doubts.

Spoiler

So his brother Grayson, who is one of those cruel smuggo manipulative types who is so psycho that he literally can't see how he's being cruel, forced a young (?) Chase to have s*x with a dog during one of his ruts... maybe. It's unclear for a very long time if this really happened or is possibly Grayson manipulating Chase to think it did. He's been using this (possible) incident ever since to further control and manipulate Chase "for his own good", and claims he doesn't see anything wrong with forcing his little brother to f*** a dog because a hole is a hole and he has to get through his rut, so what's the problem. (If you read Kiss Me Liar, yes, this is the same incident/rumor that doctor guy referenced to Yeonwoo.)

Like... I don't know, the whole thing is really weird to me, even beyond the bestiality. Yes, dominant alphas in this version of the omegaverse can basically go crazy if they don't "release their pheromones" periodically and their ruts can be equally crazy, but given how the repeated emphasis is still on "pheromones" (and omegas), it doesn't seem to me like he'd unconsciously willingly engage in bestiality. It seems more like he'd just go violent. Because it's also largely implied/told from Grayson's unreliable mouth, it's unclear exactly what happened.

Eventually some chapters later, Grayson more explicitly reveals to Josh that actually, nah, bestiality didn't happen, he just made Chase think it did in order to try to get him to release his pheromones better or something as Chase refuses to have s*x with other people, and again, he did it for Chase's own good and doesn't think he did anything wrong.

[collapse]

The story also ended too soon, although apparently there's two volumes of side stories which could potentially expand upon my complaints here concerning loose ends and cut-off development. Josh basically reveals everything to Chase in the last chapter before the epilogue, so there's no further development of their relationship or exploration of Chase's feelings upon finding out that he has a toddler son and a bunch of other revelations (such as the Grayson one spoilered above, Josh tells Chase about it and Chase basically handwaves it with a single sentence), we never find out more about what happened to the kidnapping cult or the guy whose tongue Chase bit off or Chase's evil brother Grayson or the rest of his apparently sociopathic family, we don't find out about the fate of Josh's generically-ill mother or that weird recurring subplot about Josh suspecting his sister has a lover which seemed like it was going somewhere but I guess not. Hell, even the movie that Chase was filming is still unfinished by the end of the novel!

There were a bunch of other loose ends, way too many to list here even if I spoilered them. None of them were exactly huge, but there were too many of them and the ending wrapped things up way too fast without actually wrapping things up. The epilogue time skips to several years in the future for a single cutesy scene so there's no wrapup there either.

And while Josh sort of had a character arc going (struggling with his attraction to Chase, worrying about concealing his omega status and son Pete, dealing with his coworkers, dealing with actually protecting Chase), Chase's arc went nowhere. He just sort of becomes in love with Josh and is jealous and possessive while sometimes being less violent (but other times more) and still in desperate need of therapy for his traumatic past and violent tendencies.

Among other complaints, beyond that very first chapter, we never ever see anything else concerning Josh and Chase's first encounter. I thought we'd get some flashback chapters involving the first time Josh was his bodyguard, and the leadup to their first time that ended up getting Josh preggo, and maybe some aftermath of him panicking when he found out, but nope, nada, nothing, zilch. The whole story is a predicated on a period of time that we never see and know pretty much nothing about except the bare bones: all we know is that Josh was Chase's bodyguard a few years previously and Chase unknowingly knocked him up during his rut. We literally know nothing more than that. We never see their first encounter or how that bodyguarding session went or even how/why they ended up in bed together, we never read anything about Pete being born or Josh struggling to raise him as a single parent.

The story had potential because I liked Josh and the whole bodyguard/actor hidden-child concealed-past setup, and Chase had the inklings of a complex character but ultimately he turned out to be only faux-complex, and the rest of the story fell apart anytime anything action-based or dramatic happened. I was gonna mark this as a 2.5 star but grudgingly gave it a low 3 stars based on its strengths rather than its weaknesses: some solid character in Josh being a non-typical omega doing a tough job and doing it well and being a good, responsible single parent, a different kind of omegaverse (even if it is still ultimately subject to the same tropes), and a US setting that didn't feel like "the United States (of South Korea) ".

Is it worth your reading time? I'd say... if you read the manhwa adaptation of this or Kiss Me Liar, or read Kiss Me Liar and are curious about Josh, then sure. If you haven't read any of those though, I'd say maybe check out the manhwa first since it's quicker to read than the novel, and if you like it, try the novel as it does include more details of certain scenes. Otherwise it's a bit hard for me to recommend unless you can shut your brain off more completely than I can. <<less

I love this... It's a power bottom who saves the Alpha's ass... And Chase got better in the middle of the story. I love how the ML was shone as also vulnerable rather than just the usual typical Alpha cold, indifferent and insensitive. Chase was really more human compared to Keith Pittman who continue to deny his feelings with Yeonwoo. But here when Chase realize his feelings and attraction no more in the denial they straight up went to bed lol 😂

His bratty attitude was all because of that Grayson!... more>> fckn Grayson may he had a hard time taming his Omega 😂😂.

Chase was surprisingly green in all these red Alphas in kiss me series. He is more naive and was more serious into sleeping only with his Omega and was disgusted to himself when he thought he was one of those scummy Alphas (which were made him to believe thanks to that scummy Grayson)

Josh is a cool character, I'm glad his character didn't fall through in the end coz most even when they started strong they still end up needing protection by their ML. But not Joshua, he saves the beauty ML countless times and was true to his character design.

I love the dynamics of their story I rarely read Korean novels coz most is angst and my curiosity fell through just few chapters in but not for Kiss me if you can. The story made me hooked and enjoy it so much. <<less

I loved it. I read it in a week. I fried my brain using Google translate just to finish this before the manhwa and I honestly enjoyed reading it. Losing sleep was so worth it.

Chase is now my 2nd poor little meow meow next to my baby Binghe. I just hope the manhwa captures all of his emotions. From the minute details to the big ones. He's such a poor tortured soul who didn't deserve what happened to him. I'm honestly glad that Josh is his one and only love.

Josh... more>> is definitely the one leading the relationship. He's such a powerhouse! I wish more ukes are like him. The type that can take you down in an instant. Chase is definitely the follower while Josh is the leader whenever I read a smexy scene from them.

The only question I have is how old is Pete here? It's so vague that I don't know how to calculate how long Chase was torturing himself cause it felt like if Josh and Chase didn't meet again, Chase could've been dead in a couple of weeks or months.

Also, I think Grayson's somewhat character development here is the start of his story with Dane. I hope their story starts soon cause his whole issue is him not knowing what emotions are. He's basically acting and his understanding of what the right thing to do is very twisted considering his lack of real emotions. <<less

It's a great story on it's own but if you read kiss me liar first it really adds context to the world both these stories take place in.

I finished the main story I'm still looking for a translation of the side stories. I also purchased the Kindle version of volume 1 and really liked it. Now there seems to be a licensing issue so I'm going to read the unofficial version because I'm getting tired of waiting for word excerpt to figure out what they're gonna do. I still plan... more>> on purchasing the Kindle versions to support the author. It's just a little frustrating when you're trying to do the right thing and the publisher can't get their act right. <<less

This is one of my favorite BL novels. I can't count how many times I've read it. I bought the chapters from wordexcerpt--they have until a few chapters before Vol 2 ends translated. I've plowed through the MTL from that point onwards just because I love it so much. This is my favorite type of BL dynamic: the younger, puppy top and the older, strong-willed/badass bottom. (The couple in Dash has a similar dynamic and it's also why I love Dash so much.)

This novel is also proof that Zig... more>> is actually capable of writing a somehow healthy, somehow non-toxic relationship.

Spoiler

In particular, a top who doesn't assault/rape/ab*se their partner and is even horrified at the mere thought that he might have. Somewhere in Vol 3, Chase even asks Josh, in horror, if he had r*ped Josh, and if that was how they had conceived Pete. (Of course Josh vehemently denies that any r*pe happened!)

[collapse]

Although Josh and Chase started off on the wrong foot, I want to say that

Spoiler

Their fistfight in volume 1 will always be one of my all-time favorite scenes in BL. There's nothing else better to develop chemistry between two characters than to have them throw hands lol except sex

[collapse]

I've also read 2 of the side stories, and

Spoiler

For better or worse, it seems like Grayson is the only one among Chase's family who actually shows a little bit of care for him. Grayson admits to Josh all the bullying he's done to Chase when they were children, and the sick joke about him having s*x with a dog, but still, it seems that Grayson forcibly brings him to or*y parties so that he can expel pheromones (and not go insane). In Side Story 1, Grayson is the one who searches for Josh for the sake of Chase, who falls into a rut. In the main story, I saw Grayson as a despicable SOB, but in the side story he kind of redeemed himself in my eyes a little.

[collapse]

Anyway, this should be listed as a "shared universe" novel with Kiss Me, Liar instead of as a side story. It is definitely, infinitely better than that one. <<less

At first, I really disliked how ML treated the MC, but as you keep reading, everything becomes clearer on why ML is like that to basically everyone around him.

Spoiler

Learning what ML had to go through made me so livid. Same how MC reacted. Punch the mfq responsible for ml’s trauma

[collapse]

I read through the manhwa on kiss me liar after this story and personally I really liked this story better. Its pretty violent at first but ML is truly someone who is very sweet once he starts trusting MC a bit more. Near the end

Spoiler

Oh god, I was so sad because ML has severe phobia of dogs thats explained in the novel (its pretty fcked up), but he still fought against it to save the mc’s child without even knowing its his child as well.

[collapse]

I have not read the side story since I can’t find them but the main story really satisfied me.

Oh, and MC isn’t one if those crybaby O’s but more on calmer and more thoughtful side. While ML is at first pretty violent to MC, like he’d get beaten up, hit (nothing s*xual though) but as their relationship develops, it honestly becomes so wholesome😭 ML is still one of the jealous types/they have some misunderstandings but they get resolved. <<less

This is currently my most favorite novel. I love badass Josh and so naive Chase. I wish there were a hundred chapters and a hundred more side stories. It's so funny how jealous Chase was. I also love how much Josh loves and adores Chase, how protective he was of him. I can't stress enough how much I love this novel.

Its so GOOD, I love the dynamics, I love the plot so much. The fact that this was an omegaverse is the icing on the cake really. Everything was so well written despite having a bad translation. I could somehow still grasp everything without having a stroke. I like the twist on how chase is the submissive one and how Josh is the Alpha in the relationship gosh, and actual power bottom ugh I need more of them. I wanted more of them with their children but I couldn't find... more>> the english translation for the side stories. Still this was such a good read 1mil/10 <<less

Loved this, probably my favorite story by this author. The MC is intelligent and strong and the ML has good character development.

I decided to come back to reread after finding out it (finally) got a manhwa adaptation and was reminded of my only gripe (aside from the whole ... more>>

coyote scene, which I found to be so improbable and unlikely that it stretched my suspension of disbelief to the breaking point.)

[collapse]
Which is that the official translation is clunky and unnecessarily verbose, like a kid with their first thesaurus or someone trying too hard to sound sophisticated. It interferes with the flow and immersion, so I knocked a star off for that, otherwise I'd probably have rated it even higher. <<less

What a wholesome story, even the ML more like a tr*sh, I like it more since MC doesn't hesitate to spat or throw his punches when something go wrong.

It's quite rare to find a story with strong MC and protected the ML 😁

Thank you so much for the translator hard work.

So far so good, waiting for more most of the chapters are on perma-lock so I'm waiting for the free ones or the wait to read ones. Me broke with thirst for angst. But overall, love it!! 5 star!

This was surprisingly a really enjoyable read, and wasn't at all the kind of s*um gong chasing arc plotline that I was expecting from the first few scenes. The ML Chase wasn't nearly as s*um as I expected (he's actually not s*um at all) and the MC Josh was so hot, I really actually loved all their interactions. The relationship progression was a bit abrupt at times and their feelings weren't really fleshed out all too well as it's a relatively shorter novel, but it's action packed and highly entertaining,... more>> and I finished it all in just a couple hours.

The two of them don't really fall into the typical strong Alpha x weak Omega roles, as the MC is ML's bodyguard and saves him quite a few times over the course of the novel. They feel pretty equal physically, as MC can overpower ML normally, and ML can subdue MC with his pheromones in bed (he's too much of a sweetheart honestly to do so out of bed). Their dynamic during intimate scenes is also quite entertaining, as MC is definitely more a power bottom type and ML lets him take control quite a bit.

I really liked ML's backstory as well, and my heart did hurt for him quite a bit. He really deserved so much better! The way he responded to MC finally revealing that they had slept together really made me so sad:
Spoiler

his first reaction being horrified that he could have r*ped MC, when it was really more him that was the one being taken advantage of?? He was the one in rut after all : (

[collapse]

Either way it's not really a 5 star read, but my enjoyment level and the way I binge read the entire thing so fast gives this an automatic 5 star for me. <<less

It was very good! I loved how Chase and Josh's relationship progressed, there were cute and romantic moments leading to their happy ending.

The only thing lacking for me was:

Spoiler

I think Chase and Pete's meeting was dragged, the only thing dragging in the story fortunately, but I think it could have been solved quicker and better, the paternity confession was a bit anticlimactic.

[collapse]

I hope the author releases more of this couple because I think there's so much more to tell and many things still pending that although have been resolved for now,
Spoiler

I'm curious about how they will develop like the wedding, how their family dynamics are going to be, how Pete will adapt to his new life, etc

[collapse]

I wanted to see more of Pete though, we progressively saw less of him as the story moved on and I think that's a shame, he's a whole cutie!

In conclusion, ZIG is a master at what she does, she knows how to keep things interesting. I hope more of her works get translated.

I've only read Kiss me liar and this one, but I prefer Kiss me if you can's couple dynamic, it's also the most wholesome for me. <<less

I am honestly not a big fan of the authors other works, which takes place in the same universe, but I was in for a good surprise. Both main characters in this work has such stronger character and more heavily dynamics personalities. They seem like oil and water in the beginning, but as you get to know them more you find out how they’re both actually good for each other. I think the story presented them and their struggles more on a human level, rather then as alpha/omega, and that’s... more>> what made me keep going. The plot is neither amazing or terrible in terms of depth, but I don’t think that’s something bad necessarily. Overall, it was a good read with a suspenseful start that made you keep going, minor and major intrigues throughout, and a concision that felt fully grasping where the ending gave closure and the story was rightfully completed. <<less

Story is just so-so, author tries to mess up the characters more than they should be but skipping over the details on why and how. Some are just implied or glossed over, thank God the plot was common, I'm afraid if I hadn't read so much novels with same messed up backstory, I wouldn't be able to relate at all. Some events are over the top for trying to incorporate action scenes and also ' unnecessarily ' brutal. I say unnecessary because the story still could progress well without, in... more>> fact, it backfired. Some brutal scenes I assumed were there to emphasized the cruelty of ML but somewhere along the way, the author decided to get away with it under the premise that he's just an innocent, broken, naive little boy who did not grew out of it despite his big stature. Anyway, still a good read but I won't say it's the best. The manhwa art is so good though 10/10. <<less
