It exceeds my expectation. Spider is so adorable which makes me want to buy Merch Pillow from it.

Although the beginning can feel a little slow due to the worldbuilding, after the necessary foundation is there the story picks up. The way it's written, you get an idea of what's going on from a couple of perspectives but after the story picks up is when you learn what's really been going on and the way it's revealed is really satisfying.

Spoiler

You get side stories from another reincarnators point of view and also kumoko's point of view, but later on realize that what's happening on one side is much further in the future. So essentially you get an excerpt of some future happenings from one perspective and then everything that happens to get there, from kumoko's perspective and then the timelines converge.

[collapse]

The only problem I have is that it's so close to what looks to be a conclusion to the story but it's on hiatus and hasn't been updated for a while, so I don't know when i'll get to find out what happens in the end : ( <<less

All I can say is.

Isekai with an unexpected plot twist and hardships. Starting as a small prey and then struggling to become stronger.

A world with a game's interface but later on the story, everything will be explained with realistic reason (or not. At least it still realistic). Might be confused about the timeline if read it in the first time, but after everything connected the story will become interesting after that.

This story singlehandedly renewed my interest in light novels and anime after years of just ignoring all but a few releases. It starts off very simple and unfocused with the main character simply trying to survive in a hellhole and and like all isekai protagonists becomes completely overpowered... but she's not the hero, she's the hero's villain, so of course she has to be strong. She's the one making the plot, not responding to it. And once there stops being serious threats to her, she stops getting into real fights.

There... more>> are so many small things to praise about this story. The villain group's POV is very sympathetic, but also fundamentally flawed. The protagonist in particular goes from seeming completely happy go lucky to showing multiple different mental illnesses which cause most of the conflict. The ridiculous skill system actually has a legit reason for existing. The characters have a lot of depth and all have significant flaws and conflicts. It really isn't clear where the story is going or who will 'win' in the end and so on. It all comes together quite nicely with a lot of intrigue and mystery as characters all struggle for opposing goals where even the villains mostly can't be considered truly evil nor the heroes totally good.

It is not without flaws. The first part of the story is basically impossible to get invested in if you do not like the protagonist. There are no other significant characters for a LONG time. The first and second half of the story vary wildly in tone and themes. But despite all this, it's easily my favorite isekai story and Shiraori in particular is the most fascinating and complicated characters I've seen in years. I hope things work out for her.

It's truly a shame about the spotty translation the series has at times and the long hiatuses. <<less

im reading the light novel that yen press released just finished reading volume 2, and I can honestly say I am in love with the LN (not sure how I feel about wn as cba reading it).

i haven’t enjoyed reading an LN as much as I have when I read this in a long time, I love the concept of being reborn as a Spider and trying to survive even though you have a human personality, to what extent would you be willing to fall to just so that you... more>> could survive and this makes me want to read even more.

currently waiting for yen press to release v3 so that I can smash through it as soon as they release.

suggest reading the LN it’s worth it! <<less

I like this story very much. First it was typical game growth story at start.

Spoiler

But then at end when truth comes out about world and transmigration of MC. The story becomes of whole another level. I like the way I was trapped in web of different time lines to reach at conclusion

I really love this story. It is full of twist and turns. Most are foreshadowed expertly. And the conclusion to each foreshadowing is done well. Plus Kumo-Chan is effing adorable.

The story has 3 main arcs.

*Spoilers* After arc 1

1- The Labyrinth Survival/Grinding Arc. Which consist of Kumo-Chan fighting her way through monsters (often stronger or more numerous then herself), and her learning the basics of that world.

2- ... more>>
Spoiler

The Holy Wars and Transcending the System Arc. Here after Kumo escaped The Great Labyrinth gets caught in a holy war. After a rampage against everyone involved, she is attacked by the original demonic spider. Which spurred her into wanting to be stronger. To which she evolved into an Arachne and eventually beyond the system of the world.

[collapse]

3-
Spoiler

The Demon, Human, and Elven War Arc. Once Kumo-Chan reaches a state of godhood she decides to help the "Demon King" Arale aka "her progenitor" aka "the Original Demon Spider" in her efforts to lower the population of the world and hunt the leader of the Elves.

[collapse]

Now for a more in depth explanation.

Spoiler

Kumo-Chan is the MC believed to be a girl reincarnated into a foreign world with heavy RPG elements. After surviving numerous near death experiences in the Great Elro Labyrinth grows into a powerful but lovable monster. Along the way she discovers numerous helpful abilities, including magic, and dividing her mind into separate personalities with each in charge of her different functions (body, calculations, and magic). During this time she meets a armored god speaks to another mysterious god. This will change the course of the very world.

Once free of the Labyrinth, she is mistaken as a servant of the goddess by a small city. After an army starts wiping out her followers and attacked her with powerful magic, she goes into a blind rampage and wipes out both armies. Only afterwards she is nearly killed by her (technically grandmother) progenitor Arale. Who though of her as a glitch or mutant from one of her numerous spider clones. By moving her consciousness into an egg she layer far away Kumo-Chan narrowly survived. She continued to grow and evolved into an Arachne (spider person) and eventually absorbed vast amounts of MA energy she evoked beyond the limits of the system into a goddess.

Upon waking in her new form she is greater by her progenitor Arale. Who ask for help in a plan to save the world. Which has been dying slowly for the last 1000 years. To save it they must pit the demons and humans against each other and lower the amount of life while using the life force of those who died to repair the world. To which Kumo-Chan agrees. And changes her name to Shiiro upon becoming a demon general. Joined by the dragon god, who becomes a fellow general, they lead the demon race to clash with humanity. Meanwhile the Elves are revealed to be a shady race. With a dark history spanning the last 1000 years.

Late into the war we find Shiiro leading the demons on a war path to the elven homeland. A secluded forest guarded by a mighty barrier. It turns out that the elven leader was the cause of the world's decaying. He was formerly a human scientist that lead in the world's bio tech fields. And was the one to discover the world's life force. He learned to convert it into energy as well as channel it into humans and actively evolve them. The result was the planet being s**ked dry and many humans evolving into the long lived elves. The dragons who generally stayed to themselves had enough, and stole the remaining energy and left the planet for dead. The angel Sariel who watched over the humans intervened by becoming the heart of the system. The goddess of the reborn world under the direction of "The Evil Goddess D" (Who spoke to Kumo-Chan in the Labyrinth).

It turns out the leader of the elves also continued destroying the world further. He sacrificed a vast amount of the world's life force in an attack on D. The result was the death of everyone in the classroom where D hid her divinity and played human. Thus she reincarnated all the humans involved plus the tiny spider that lived in the classroom into the other world.

[collapse]

Throughout the earlier chapters there's other reincarnated people who have their stories told in bits and pieces. Which eventually tie into the main story.

Spoiler

Kumo-chan's story starts nearly 9 months before anyone else is born. And later their stories intertwine in the demon, human war.

[collapse]

All in all it is a well thought out story with most of it planned from chapter 1. And Kumo-Chan is a wonderful MC. <<less

I want to write a review but those who rated 5★ mentioned it already. So now I will instead tell you to read this great novel.

I also want to tell you guys to ignore those who rated 3★ and below. Seriously, if they really read the novel then they are completely wrong. Some of them even rated and hated this novel because of problems in translation. I was like, WTF? You are rating the NOVEL here, NOT the TRANSLATION. Well, the translation have been fixed thanks to the multiple translators.... more>> You just have to pick which one you like in the list above. <<less

There are two types of reviews of this light novel those who really liked the first ark but hated what the second ark did and those who loved the second half and honestly if you enjoyed the second half good for you but for I hated it. The first part was fun it created a fun and interesting story with a cool premise that promised and enjoyable expiriance however the second arc completely destroyed that. Not saying you cant shift the tone of your story but it was so badly... more>> executed that I could barely handle it past a couple chapters. All charctisation up to this point in my view got tossed out of the window making the biggest mistake in these kind of story's that power level is a suitable replacement for story and character. Dont get me wrong I was starting to enjoy some of the supporting cast in the second ark but the drastic tone shift that left me completly isolated from the main charcter and lost wandering what exactly I was reading it just made me want to quit the series. Not saying you cant shift tones look at hunter x hunter for example but the tone shifts needs to be subtle and in line with the story presented so far not just im a god now guess I want to kill people done in one chapter. Last rant didn't like the pacing went to fast like the author knew they wanted to write the second part but decided it would be a cool idea to do a tone switch only to realise it was taking to long and decided to quickly get it over with if you ask me they should have split it into two series the first part being a spin off the the latter sections done after the climax of the story so the author could focus on what they actually wanted to write and you didn't split the audience. Personally I think its bad but whatever if you enjoy a boring death crazed main charcter I would suggest reading it. If not then the first part isn't worth the second <<less

Amazing! I haven't read it in a while after reaching all of the then updated chapters, but I intend on picking it up again. It may seem to some people that she is an actual spider that developed human intelligence instead of a human that turned into a spider, but the reason clearly stated in the novel explains all.

I point this out because of a particularly well-liked comment that made this a point in his/her review. The whole grinding arc in the cave exceeds 100 chapters by a lot. Some... more>> readers may enjoy the grinding arc, and others may not - at all. The later arcs include a lot more interaction with other intelligent life (like humans. A must-have). This naturally includes becoming more known in the world and astonishing people (from what I remember). I didn't like the change in her mindset when she reached the max level of that certain skill either, but the reason for that is later shown to be depressing, yet reasonable. Her actions later on after knowing about it are also for the better good.

I suggest you read the novel yourself.

(Note) : I would have heavily preferred to add spoilers inside the spoiler boxes, but no matter what I did it didn't seem to work, even after carefully looking over the Spoilers section of the BB codes and user answers. <<less

I loved this story when it was about the actual MC. She's adorable and fun to read about. Then it gets to the bullsh*t side stories, and it ruined an joy and love I had for this story.

4.5/5 for the parts actually about the MC

1/5 for the annoying side stories.

PS, someone desperately needs to fix the damn chapter index. There's like 4 different translators going, all doing different parts. It's a nightmare to look at.

You know the usual class transfer to another world? This is it, only everyone is scattered and we follow a baby spider! It's a bit annoying in the beginning listening to overly long monologue but once you pass that follows an awesome adventure with humour and interesting side stories. Don't be discouraged because it' on hiatus, there are plenty of chaps and you can even peacefully drop it after ~180 chaps coz MC's personallity changes due to revealing a certain mystery, and there are a lot of senseless power ups... more>> so the story loses it's innocent charm. Though I said you can drop it there, it's still good, say 3/5, also a word about translations, I've read only from Turbo coz his few grammar mistakes are negligible but if you really mind it then blastron has initial retranslations (which I haven't even looked at but I presume they are better). <<less

Genuinely felt like a chapter of my life ended alongside this novel when it finished as it started when I was a freshman in HS and the final volume released when I was a freshman in college (give or take). One of my favorite LNs of all time. By no means perfect, but it executes world building, plot, and plot twists extremely well. It does lack a decent bit in terms of characterization and relationships but it definitely picks up in this regard towards the end. Cannot recommend enough.

While I understand this review might not garner much attention, I feel compelled to express my sentiments regarding this webnovel. It holds the distinction of being the very first webnovel I delved into. Approximately two years ago, my interest was piqued after encountering its manga counterpart. Curiosity led me to immerse myself in the webnovel's narrative, and to my delight, I found the experience to be immensely enjoyable and entertaining. Remarkably, it introduced me to a new pastime, supplanting my previous interests in manga and anime with a newfound preference... more>> for reading. The series, in my estimation, is a delightful blend of fun and uniqueness, with Kumoko's character serving as a particularly compelling focal point. Beyond these observations, I find myself with little further commentary to offer ('cause I forgot most of the story). Therefore, I shall conclude by leaving this testament here before bidding adieu. Bye~ bye~ <<less

I enjoyed it at first. Until the later chapters. I was expecting an antihero protagonist actually. But she's not. It feels like she doesn't have a personality of her own. After all she is a real spider with just some memories of a human. And yet as the story goes it she becomes more and more emotional it's annoying. I especially hate the ending. What is with that. She was just trapped in cage all weak by the person who played with them just for fun. If it's D's story... more>> and D is the protagonist then that would be fine but no, it's the spider's story and I was expecting her to get stronger and turn the tides on D. But no, she was caged like some common spider. And that's the frigging end. Fine her camp became losers, Fine she's a villain (or the author tried hard to make her so but failed) turned hero. Fine she became a loser. But at least make proper and better ending. <<less

Ok so this novel is what bought me to the wonderful world of web novels and I absolutely loved it. Re-read both the web novel and the light novel multiple times but the ending of the web novel was a little... rushed I would say. First of all, excuse my bad English.

It was a great pleasure for me to read this novel.

It wasn't perfect, it has its flaws, but overall it maintained excellent quality throughout its journey.

Spoiler

Except the ending.

How much did it cost the autor after more than 300 chapters to make 2 or 3 or 4 chapters for the epilogue?.

It could have had the ending that it has, but with more things, all the drama of the last battle, the life of a bunch of secondary, summed up in "and now they'll manage as best they can."

What happened to the teacher and the reincarnated extras, what happened to the hero, what happened to sophia.

Everything stayed in "and now they'll manage as best they can."

The first seven volumes were pretty good. Action-packed and exciting, it was pretty hard to put down the novel even for a moment. The MC was also likeable, so no issues there. Everything was pretty good. Up until volume 8, that is.

Volume 8 brought about a very big change to the novel's pace, drastically slowing it down. There was still a lot of action scenes, don't get me wrong, but the progress of the story slowed down tremendously compared to the first seven novels. I think it's fine to slow... more>> down the pace a bit, but then from volume 11 up until the most recent one, volume 13, there was almost no progress to the story.

Volume 9 and 10 were still pretty good, although they don't compare to the first seven novels, but volume 11 onwards was a slog to read. Volume 11 was absolutely unnecessary, and I daresay one can even skip it altogether and you won't even miss any significant plot point. I guess you could say there were a few significant plot points, but that leads us to another problem I saw in the later novels.

The author loves repeating themselves. Events or objects that already happened or that were already mentioned is explained again and again every time it's brought up. That's why I think volume 11 is pretty unnecessary, because any significant plot point mentioned in that volume is explained repeatedly in the later novels anyway.

Another reason why I think volume 11 is unnecessary:

Spoiler

I don't see a single reason why a character that already died in volume 2 deserves a volume dedicated only for him, even for character development. I mean, an entire volume just for a character that already died 9 volumes ago???

[collapse]

As for volume 12 and 13, it's so full of fillers and repeated explanations I swear the story could be narrated in half the page count. Sometimes, there's so much explanation that goes on a tangent that it detracts from the story. There would be action scenes, but I couldn't immerse myself in it because every time a character makes a move, there would be an accompanying explanation for that move that would explain: a) how it was done, b) why it was done, c) how it applies to situations that is entirely unrelated to the current situation, and a bunch of other stuff. I understand explaining action scenes, but it would have been better if it did not destroy the reader's immersion.

I really liked the first half of the novel, but the successing volumes just wore down my excitement for this novel bit by bit until I was only slogging through the novel. I hope volumes 14 until 16 would be better because I really don't want to drop one of the first webnovels I've read and liked. <<less

Honestly its hard to do this novel justice through a simple reveiw. The comedic aspect in this novel is one that fits people like me who like action and strategy but keeps it out of a too "emotionally deep" and "dark" tone.

While on the other hand, the way the characters are portrayed on a larger scale makes it feel closer to an epic. Then when you get closer you see the classic jp novel writing, groan in pain, then finally! You relize...... this dude is just a side character........

Kumo desu... more>> nani ka's main character is the spider, but she herself treats the world around her as a growth envirornment, a journey, as well as a playground at the same time.

Because of this, this novel has a very unique feel to it where, although the MC is the "mc" she's just doing her best to escape the jaws of hell and then goes on to help her new found companion. The MC can even be portrayed as a side character, or an end game boss type of characters throughout the majority of the currently written part (somewhere around 400chapters I guess?)

The ONLY con I can think of from this novel that isnt opinionated, is the complexity of it. There are so many different timelines, PoVs, and backstories outside of the main plot that it is extremely complicated.

Just a little heads up tho, the main story (POV of MC in original timeline) does NOT need support from the different side stories throughout the novel that make it complicated. Everything needed that is seemingly passed or acheived in the side stories is always recapped and portrayed in 1st person through the MCs thoughts once the side stories finished and the spotlight is back to the original story. The side stories are a positive aspect in my opinion, but dont force yourself to include them. <<less
