A botched rescue mission with an unknown objective cost Zhou Yu his team members, while leading him progressively closer to the multinational biotech corporation Juli’s research core.

In order to protect his botanist younger brother Zhou Qing, Zhou Yu accepted employment under the Juli Corporation, and is dispatched to a parallel world—Nibelungen.

Nibelungen’s biological systems are completely different from the world Zhou Yu is from. To live in this place, Zhou Yu must follow three great laws:

The first law, fear is the sign of the hunted, so you must never show fear.

The second law, the more beautiful an organism is, the more dangerous they are. Do not approach them, and do not trust them.

Despite how futuristic it may seem, this is actually set on modern times. Occasionally, it would mention Resident Evil, King Kong, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Harvard and many more things to remind us that they were still on the same timeline as ours. Sci-Fi is usually associated with dystopian or utopian settings, so it was unique on that aspect. But I also find it contradictory. It's hard to digest that we can travel in inter-universal borders, simply because, we know for a fact, that we haven't made that... more>> breakthrough yet in modern times. Meanwhile, not only that they've proven the existence of multiverse but they also developed a highly advanced technology that allows them to travel back and forth to a parallel universe. I supposed that meant they achieved the interstellar and intergalactic travels as well?

Despite all these, I find it ironic that they still haven't found a cure for long time known diseases such as Huntington's, Down syndrome, cancers and etc.

(???) I mean, it's understandable we don't have cure yet for it with the current technology that we have today, but what of the kind of technology that allows inter-universal travel?? They made it seem like it's a grandiose plan to find a cure for these diseases as to go as far as crossing the universe. I think they dream too little for the fact that they actually lost more than saving lives in the process. 🤔

As for the characters. The MC and ML are lovable. MC is badass, ML IS SO CUTE. Both are OP but

Everything goes wrong wherever the MC is. As a result, MC's death became a running gag. He almost died 5 times, came back from the dead 4 times. Everytime, the ML would save him at the brink of death. At this point, MC really reminds me of Ichigo from Bleach orz.

Also. The side couple... almost seems non-existent. I'm not sure whether what should I feel for them? They have their own world and I don't think I can tell if they've contributed anything praiseworthy to the story.

Anyway, keeping all those aside. It's still an amazing read. If you don't mind what I pointed above and you're just here to for the action-adventure and enjoyment factor, I think you will love it. World-building is nice. The monsters are well described. It will either terrify or disgust you. And, as I said, the interactions between MC and ML are really cuuuuute. It's actually what fueled me to read on despite my misgivings. If you decide on reading it, I do hope you enjoy it as well. Happy reading! :)

Willing to give this story full stars because the premise and setting was so unique I keep thinking about the story even months later. The ability to make me ponder over interesting ideas is one of the best signs of good fiction, and this story accomplishes that in a highly enjoyable manner.

Big fan of this author's other stories, too. The author has the gift of creating MCs that are completely believable even when they are put through extraordinary situations, and corresponding MLs with personalities that don't lose to their overwhelming... more>> OPness. Of course, the development of their relationship is the focal point of the story and the fluff and romance is very on-point.

As with the other stories, don't read if you are squeamish. The gore and horror scenes are written quite vividly and occur especially often at the beginning. <<less

Amazing, am only at chapter 25 and already can't get enough of it. The "new world" is described so good! It lets you see the danger but as well how beautiful is in the same time. As for the characters, I'm very impressed with the MC. It's a badass but not in a OP way. He's strong, loyal, smart, determined with a good heart. I hopes ramainds the same till the end. After I'll read all ch I'm back with more.

I MTL it because I couldn't wait! What a ride! the book is amazing. Great read, with great characters development.

This is my second read (Thrive in catastrophy) from Jiao Tang Dong Gua and I was blown away. I am about to MTL all his other books while waiting on the translation. I wish I could wrote the author and ask his team to consider having his book translate internationally. I am pretty sure it would be very well received.

The world building is amazing, colorful and inovative. It might be inspired... more>> by Avatar but WOW it was even better and more detailed world. The story is well engaging, fast-moving (Not confusing) with great pace.

Again I really like the portraying of the MC and ML relationship, they both respect and aknowledge each other strengh, supportive and protect each other. They have their own flaws, but they always there for each others.

The supportive characters are solid and very well integrated to the story.

It take some times for the ML to appear but don't be discourage and take time to fully enjoy the story, when he does the author made sure to sell us a lot of dog food :)... Swoonnnn :)

I wish I could read all of his other books. I am sure, I wont be disapointed because hsi penmark are one of the best and also the translator is doing an amazing job too keeping up the flow of the author.

So far, this is an exciting, suspenseful sci-fi novel with vivid imagery and excellent action scenes. Intrigue and danger lie around every turn. I love the setting. All of the characters have their roles, and a few have shown their depth as characters thus far. They each have their own personality traits, behaviors, and reactions to various scenarios.

Definitely worth checking out.

This novel is one of the best novels I have read so far.

The MC is not weak, smart and selfless. The ML.. Well I really like him so far too but sadly the novel is not fully translated so I can only say a little about him○¤○.

If you decide to read this in english then be aware that the translation is awfully slow and if you MLT it, you would understand only half of it and with no enjoyment at all.

I love how the authour portrays everyones personalities, especially the (important) side characters! They're likeable, three dimensional, and something you easily can get attached to. The world the authour creates is something extremely ethereal and ominous, The words and expressions the authour uses is crisp and clear, which makes MTL-ing the novel a lot easier, until abt c50. I can't tell if its getting harder or if I'm just tired;;

The letter seems very good. However, there are things that really annoy me. From minor details like the opportunity to find a cure for cancer in the study of monster regeneration, to more important things.

The most doubtful thing is that it seemed that none of the employees had received the necessary training to work in another world. Why didn't they try to prepare them psychologically so that they would at least be less afraid? Why was knowledge about monsters, at least those near the base, optional? Why is their instructor... more>> constantly scaring and intimidating them, even though the goal should be the opposite? Why were there no spare wheels in the car? Why didn't they have proper supplies with them? Why was it not checked whether the base was in order before the departure of valuable specialists? Why do they take impressionable people there?

It seems that only MC and his brother are classified enough for this work from the group. Otherwise, building the world seems to be good. I hope that what I have listed will be explained as I read, but I have quite a few doubts.

If this had actually been explained, then at least one of the characters would have noticed that something was wrong with all this. However, this did not happen.

This work is compared to the Little Mushroom, but they are generally on completely different levels from the point of view of the logic of what is happening and basic security. Everything made sense in the Little Mushroom, but here it is impossible to read without completely turning off the brain.

However, they have an interesting construction on the same level, but, alas, this work does not seem to be able to justify its own ideas. If the questions I have listed are answered well, I will take back my words, but all the options I can think of only raise even more doubts. <<less

- Minus one star for the misogynie.

- Minus one star for the boring narration of how great and extraordinary.... the mains characters are. For exemple the MC is said to be"extraordinary" for not sexualy harrassing his female collegue 😬 contrary to his pair...

The story in itself is pretty boring, you discover the new world mu*derous ecosysteme something goes wrong but the MC is badass and without fear (wich is pretty ridiculous) so it turn out okay, or Mo ye come to save the day.

The only real good point of this... more>> story is Mo ye, our fluff ball is adorable and in deep love with the MC. <<less

The world building is definitely in the top 10s for BL - possibly the action too.

The characters are good, they each have their own quirks and are pretty memorable - though our MCs motivation goes from going on a 100% death rate mission to save his little brother to literally only being able to think of Mo Ye when asked what he holds important (and this is before the romance), so dont expect too much in regularity for MC or ML.

Where it falls flat is romance, MLs form gets revealed,... more>> MC thinks ML deceived him, then not even 10 chapters later MC reciprocates a kiss. MC continues to be kinda on the fence about things for a while longer but at this point theyre already a couple lmao. I legitimately dont know what people were talking about with slow romance, bec sure MC is still iffy about it but within 10 chapters of MLs reveal he's already kissing him, and atleast I would count a kiss as romance.

Also MC literally has a moment where he thinks that ML, in Night Spirit form, is sensual and I dont know what to make of that - is this the slow romance people were talking about? Is it because MC started falling inlove with ML when he was literally animal shaped? I dont doubt it from all of the paragraphs we had to read of MC looking into his mesmerizing, liquid gold, shining eyes that suck your soul in and make you think youre the most important and blah blah blah but like really?

We had a good 40 chapters of MC literally replacing his little brothers spot in his most important with ML (he admits to this! Its canon!) and being mesmerizing by his eyes, showering with him, sleeping with him, getting a boner from him - granted this is bec of ML but even without we have a worrying amount of instances where MC describes what his finger being s**ked feels like - and then not even 7 chapters after MLs human form is revealed to MC they're kissing??

I dont know about yall but I wouldnt kiss my cat no matter how long itd been if he transformed into a handsome man.

Dont even mention side CPs, theyre all bad. Theres no good romance anywhere in this story.

Aside from horrible romance this was actually pretty good, but I only kept reading to hear Wu Yun spill facts ("stop spoiling him ZY! You wont be able to say no ZY!" "he wants you to give him a striptease ZY" "Hes so strong he could do anything to you and you wouldn't be able to fight back ZY!"). He's the 'crow mouth', the one who always jinxes everything, but at this point hes more like a prophet lmao.

Im honestly very disappointed in this, I expected a lot better on the romance front - and even if it was fast I would have been fine with something that had a bit more emotion! But instead we have an ML who keeps MC as nutrition (and only likes him because hes the first person he saw when he hatched) and an MC who has arguable attraction for an animal - and then gets seduced into kissing said animal within 2 days of seeing it in human form. <<less

If there are really parallel worlds or something like this one in the novel, I would prefer them to be not known at all to humans, to us. We breed destruction and our very own greed will lead us to total annihilation.

Love this one.

Pros :

1. ML is a precious cutie that beeds to be protected. Easily my fav ML. The synopsis make us picture the aliens as the bad guy, it's true but not all of them. Thus rlly help us have that suspense / tension for the ML.

... more>> 2. MC is such a great character that is responsible and act like an actual adult. Not annoying at all. The realtionship with ML is full of fluff.

3. The second pair are great. At first I wasn't sure about it, but it was great. When you read this novel, just know that the bad guy might not be so bad and the good guy might not be that nice.

4. Author try to make a logical explanation about the aliens and the science-y stuff. Kudos to the author. And it's not cringe, idk I'm not good at science so it doesn't matter much to me.

Cons:

1. The ending. The ending is too 'tame' for this novel. I mean in the first few chapters, the author have no problems describing a grosteque death from an alien lizard. But the ending?? I was disappointed.

2. No explanation why ML fall for MC. I think the author only write that the first thing ML hear is MC heartbeat, then boom, he feel in love with MC. <<less

So I really don't know how to put into words my feelings for this novel considering the fact this is my first review so please excuse me if it's not understandable. But let me just say it first THIS NOVEL IS AMAZING!!! At first, I wanted to drop since this type of novel is not exactly my cup of tea but boi was I glad I didn't. (╯▽╰) The author's imagery is so realistic that it completely immerses you in the story; I was entranced as I imagined what Nibelungen... more>> may look like. It makes me want to visit, despite the dangers that come with it. YES, IT'S THAT GOOD!

Although the romance is slow I still enjoyed it, the interactions between the MC and ML are just sooooo cute (Especially when they finally got together eeekkk (*/ω＼*)) Also, they're both strong so that's another plus points for me.

I don't want to spoil because that would ruin the joy of the story, but I will give you a heads up.

Okay, read this damn masterpiece and you won't be disappointed. This whole novel is absolutely the best type of science fiction I've ever read! The world they get stuck in is enchanting and absolutely fantastic! The entire system and environment is cleverly thought out and well written in my opinion. It also made me curious about the behaviour of our own plants and organisms, this book made me become even more interested in botany, it is wonderful so far! Just bravo👏👏 Also please don't ever drop this novel I have... more>> tons of exams coming up I will be looking forward to completing it. <<less

Oh what a thrilling ride. I love the rich world and heart thumping action that never stops. Though I kind of dislike the c*ckroach like nemesis towards the latter half of the book.

I just want to say, ML is the cutest at the beginning, their relationship is adorable and it's almost tooth-rotting fluff. I like their later dynamic and trust that they had for each other. It's a very balanced relationship.

ya it's Song Zhi and his own ML. In another novel, they would fit (and be) the textbook definition of a MC and ML where one is super smart and plotting and the other is puppy like and super devoted. Their love story is even more of a roller coaster and full of HEARTBREAK. THANK GOODNESS IT'S HE FOR THEM though for a hot second it didn't feel so. It just hits all the feels. I want more of them, it's not enough!

But the book is more than the romance, of course, the world building is really well done. But there's some parts I felt was a bit of a pity such as

the fact that at the end, they come back to our world and cut of contact with the other world. Pity because MC gained a lot of knowledge of the other world early on in the book via some knowledge transfer. So isn't that like a waste? And still sad that it means he can't see his little brother anymore. Also curious how can his little brother live there. Cos ya know, no basic food and provision being brought over? I suppose plants can be grown but other stuff...

Lastly, the extras are literally a whole mini arc that can be part of the main story in my opinion but it does somewhat wraps up everything and I wish there were extra extras just to give me more fluff of everyone. <<less

I honestly enjoyed reading this novel. It was fresh and full of wonder. The romance was unusual but cute, the characters were amazing. The whole time reading this I literally felt like I was there experiencing the danger, which is a huge plus.

Laws of the Other World had SO MUCH potential and it just— f*cking ruined it.

The concept of a parallel world filled with dangerous beasts that hunts their prey based on their fear (for example, the predator would go after the prey if the prey exhibited fear pheromone bc it meant the prey was weaker than the predator) was very interesting. It's quickly established that this parallel world is VERY dangerous with mind controlling bugs, razor blade butterflies, and truthfully all kinds of body horror. But my largest gripe is that... more>> EVERYONE HERE IS SO f*ckING INCOMPETENT.

The sides characters are useless. They get introduced and they are killed the next chapter as fodder. They are introduced as the smartest researchers and the strongest soldiers who have been recruited to participate in this dangerous parallel world— yet every time one of these researchers or top soldiers die, it's inconsequential. Nothing changes and it's a waste of words. I would've ignored it if it happened once or twice, but it happened CONSTANTLY throughout the novel. Their personalities also grates on my nerves. They are constantly crying from fear. Which is fine, you're in a very dangerous universe, BUT it gets so tiring because it happens every. Single. Time. They are like mindless robots copy and pasted every few chapters.

The side romance also pissed me off. The mc's brother gets into a relationship with a ridiculously overpowered man. The problem lies in the fact that the mc's brother's character isn't explored at all. (Frankly none of the characters are explored and are easily forgettable, except the ML but I digress.) Because the mc's brother wasn't explored, I did not care about the mc's brother or his romance. The relationship for me was annoying as it didn't advance the plot further and it took away from the main couple's relationship.

But I also cannot rate this novel a 1 star because the main couples relationship has my heart. The MC was originally super cold but he starts smiling when he finds and takes care of this dragon-like monster (the ML) in the parallel world. The ML likes sucking on his finger and will only feed off of his blood, but in exacted the MC gets significantly stronger. Their relationship is honestly so cute and squishable that it made everything in this novel bearable. <<less

The main characters chemistry was way too intense! I almost got a nosebleed and my dad almost bunk me in the head thinking I was going crazy.

Yea.. They did drive me crazy.
