Zhou Li had transmigrated into a tooth-rottingly sweet novel.

The sweet novel tells the story of a tragic male protagonist who was turned into a dog, ab*sed by a gangster, rescued by the heroine, before finally marrying the heroine.

Zhou Li’s fate was pitiful, and he transmigrated into the animal-abusing gangster.

When he transmigrated, he found his foot stepping down on a dog’s head.

Looking at the dying dog, then thinking about the male lead’s character, he realised that his life was held in this little puppy’s paws.

An enjoyable enough read if you're looking to kill some time and go in with low expectations. The translator did a great job, I probably would not have stuck with it otherwise.

I disagree with people who felt like it got more boring after dog-mode or wanted it to last longer (it was almost half the story you guys!!) From start to finish, whole thing was a bit repetitive with a lot of circuitous tangents, and I found myself speed reading frequently. The author has a great sense of humor though,... more>> and I did get some decent chuckles, it just needed better editing to cut out the bloat (if it had been trimmed down to 60 or so chapters it would've been 4* for me.) <<less

I'm positive I started this before... can't find a bookmark so no idea if I dropped or finished. Or if it's another novel I'm thinking about... wasn't there one with a female MC but similar premise? That the ogML was in a dog's body and secretly helping the ogfl, an actress...

Anyway, will see if a re-read jogs my memory.

I do remember this part at the beginning. I actually thought it was a pretty good explanation ... more>>
Spoiler

that the MC is the "second personality" of the body. That covers up for things he doesn't know, and explains what he does. This was the first time I'd seen that excuse used.

[collapse]

So I've definitely read this before, and I think I read it to the end, since everything seems familiar. I do like that
Spoiler

there is a point where the MC wonders if the ML is being nice to him because he derailed the plot and maybe the ML is actually bi and it just depended on who rescued him.

[collapse]

I do like that it isn't instant love, and there's still the issue of whether or not Zhou Li will be transmigrated back as suddenly as he came (which is something I don't remember many other transmigration novels doing).

It's cute. From the last read through I only remembered up to the confession, more or less. It's one of the few stories where I read all of the extras, since they didn't really feel like extra chapters but more like a continuation. <<less

characters:

mc: zhou li

ml: ji shaoyan

summary: ... more>>
Spoiler

MC transmigrates to a novel where ML is a human-turned-dog after an experiment gone wrong. MC hugs ml's (dog) thighs to survive and ML falls in love with MC instead of the predestined heroine. When ML turns back human, he pursues MC. Together, they find out how MC transmigrated in the first place and become targeted by another transmigrator. Turns out MC is in possession of a jade pendant that gives the wearer world-hopping abilities, and the big bad wants to steal it. Big showdown happens, MC almost dies (again), but survives, and the big bad turns into a dog. MC and ML live happily ever after.

oh and theres a weird gaming arc in the middle somewhere.

[collapse]

thoughts:

first half of the novel was cute and funny when ML was still a husky, but plot took a nosedive after ML turned back human. Writing was juvenile and tl quality isnt any better. The 'big reveal' was a clusterf*ck and made no sense. Romance was lackluster especially on mc's side. Idk why I keep giving transmigration novels a chance when I know its gonna disappoint me :// <<less

and I decided that was a good enough stopping place before deciding to read something else.

The romance in the story was alright. It didn't get me too into it, but it's probably because I stopped right before it really developed. The male lead, if I'm being honest, I liked him better when

but although I understood his change in character, I didn't really care much for him. He still had his cute moments though. The MC however, I absolutely loved. He was hilarious with his antics which kept me amused throughout the story.

Maybe I'll come back to finish this one day, I just prefer to read something else at the moment. <<less

It's a good story, entertaining and funny the relationship between the MC and the ML is not toxic and all the side characters Also had a good end, all in all this is a good read. Though it does get a lil boring in between but that's negligible.

I won’t lie, I didn’t have much hope for this because it’s always weird to me when I see novels that start “i love my pet” and somehow becomes “I’m IN love with my pet.” like, I’m always worried about how that jump will be made and wonder if I’ll have to sit through some insane reasoning.

So far, there are two novels that I’ve managed to thoroughly enjoy with this premise that has managed to make the jump cleanly and without any weird thought patterns and this is one of... more>> them.

I think I really really loved the MC like, I really loved his thought process and his humor. I also loved how he never had to go down the whole “I’m a straight man, I can’t be bent.” path because that has always been my pet peeve with bl novels. For some reason the MC always has to be a straight male concerned about his “bent” status instead of just being a human falling in love with another human. Or hell, just having a normal worry of whether the consequences they’d go through in their society is worth the relationship. But it’s always the straight claiming their straight while getting their back blown out or while realizing their in love with the same s*x and being pretty much prejudice and homophobic about it. It bothers me, so to see an MC that was just like “gender doesn’t matter but I never thought it would be him” was very refreshing.

The twists and turns in the novel was also pretty well done. This novel didn’t seem to be a serious angst filled novel at first and even tho the angst was minimal it still tied everything together pretty well.

Lastky, Although I know it’s not super realistic, I didn’t really like that their was no one with a problem between the two of them openly sharing their love and affection. It makes me hope and wish that maybe one day it’ll really be like this and at the very least the people I personally have around me will be more like them.

Anyway, I enjoyed this a lot and the pros far outweigh the cons so I’ll give this a 4.5 on the high end. I’d recommend this to anyone just wanting something slight and fun after reading something heavy <<less

there's a certain quality to the whole cast that makes you feel like they're extremely human as if they're the most self-aware trope of clowns that are aware that something's up, but not in a meta sense. Even the original zhou li gets enough screentime to feel that and that guy deosn't even show UP as a character.

also, I love how the author writes out not just zhou li and his relationship with the ML (and it's f*cking hilarious, , , the build up of their interactions. Like. I love... more>> how after the ML learned of zhou li's family situation, he doesn't even gic a sh*t like 😭? He's just like "f*ck so this is who I'm stuck with?" like??? LMAO?), but also with his young bros. The author creates stable relationships between MC and other people who aren't directly related to the overarching plot or with the ML himself, which makes it feel like the world exists outside of just a romance novel. I also love his relationship with song yishi like lMAO homegirl is just doing her best. <<less

I love the MC!!! Like seriously he is so human-like and I can relate a lot with him. Also other characters aren't created to become a vase to be face-slapped or a character with two dimensional traits. They're felt like human. Their attitude isn't flawless, but that's what made me can sympathize with them. In short. Just read it :))

Just read other 5 stars reviews👌they did a good job. MC is funny hahaha ML keeps getting speechless most of the time, but what can he do? MC is his beloved silly fool haha

The author created one of those silly and warm gems 🥹🥹

I LOVE THIS STORY SO MUCH!

One of those stories that made me smile so big. I actually finished this story within 24 hours 🥹👌

... more>> One of the stories that I will definitely reread in the near future.

So silly, sweet, and so warm 🥹🫶

I'm a lover of stories with Yandere characters, and I can say that the author is a genius, she paired Yandere character with our Zhou Li character who is silly, shameless, very vindictive, sweet, no-nonsense, yet he's one optimistic and warm person. It's this pairing of Yandere with her partner that makes me feel the most satisfied! I love the author because of this

This story has a chance to create a lot of drama and conflict, but the author is a genius, there are no 'annoying villain' characters in this story. So the conflict can flow and end in a sweet way 🥹🫶

Loved it! Very much!

Enjoy this warm cup of tea. I really do! The translator who translated this is amazing, thank you for introducing this work to us. You did very well 🫶🫶 <<less

Nice story, well thought out plot, likeable characters. The pacing is a little slow and boring at the start (when Ji Shaoyan is still a dog) but later becomes more interesting.

There IS a plot that's followed though I would still call this novel a slice of life. Atleast slightly. The antagonist becomes a problem later on and the plot points arent constantly hanging over your head. This feels like we're just following Zhou Li around, witnessing how he goes about his new life.

This was a good novel to pass the... more>> time. Not particularly gripping in its story but still well written and translated. Give it a try. <<less

Had to drop this.

It's a forced storyline, scattered with band aid plot devices (that are also quite bad/offensive, because, really? You had to throw in DID as an excuse?).

It's not to my liking, but those that don't mind mediocre non-sensical stories, this will probably rank quite high for you.

I like it during Husky day. So many potential, many interesting plots and sub-plots.

The family drama also very unusual.

However, after ML turn back to human. There are so many fillers... some gaming arc out of no where that has no point. And all the drama prepared in the early chapters seem to end with few describing sentence, there is no excitement that I'm awaiting for.

MC- Zhou Li

ML- Ji Shaoyan

MC is ill and dies while saving a little kid. He transmigrates into a novel he has only half read and becomes someone who ab*sed the OG ML (our ML) as stated in the summary.

Spoiler

MC gives the reason that his personality changed because he is the second personality of the body

The body is also the real young master of a rich family.

[collapse]

MC is pretty smart throughout the story just has some pits in his brain like ML said. He was initially indifferent to the world but warms up after certain incident. He is a nice person who tries to help people related to himself but also is overly helpful. His reason for liking the Yandere ML is that 'even though he isn't a good person as long as he is good to me and devoted to me and I have feeling for him, its fine.' along the lines.

Though I think the ending was a little rushed up. There should at least one more extra to tell us about their death and jade, etc.

Overall, it was a nice and light hearted novel with fluff. But if you want some serious stuff, dog blood drama, bloody revenge, face slap then don't read it. <<less

Good and easy story. I liked MC's, Zhou Li, down-to-earth and fun loving personality. He made even the common things entertaining. ML, Ji Shaoyan, is described as a white shell with a black interior. However, once he falls for MC, ML's hobby becomes pampering him. It's sweet but not too sticky sweet.

Spoiler

As per the intro, MC's first encounter with ML is horrible. To get rid of the death flag, MC took care of ML while his wounds were healing. He tells ML (dog form) that he is the second personality of the body since his dad beat him too much and caused him to be mentally damaged. MC continues to treat ML well, giving him lots of hugs and playing with him. Once ML's wounds healed, he gave ML to the story's FL to get the story back on track.

However, ML's lil bro got the local gangsters to capture ML. This led to both MC and ML being injured. ML ended back in his human body. At this point, ML realized that he had feelings for MC and started pursuing him.

SPOILER...

...

- MC transmigrated due to a jade pendant that allowed those who touched it after dying to be sent to another world. This jade pendant was actually one petal out of a set of eight petals scattered across three thousand worlds.

BIG SPOILER...

...

- ML's little brother was also a transmigrator. His goal was to collect all eight petals. He tried to kill MC and was eventually locked up in a high security mental facility.

[collapse]

There's more to the plot than what is written in the spoilers. I didn't mention MC's gang of lil bros. They were s*upidly cute. <<less

First half of the story was a solid 5 for me, until the setting changed and it got so boring, I had to drop it and come back many times to finally finish the novel.

Putting it simply with a minimal amount of spoilers, from the synopsis you can see that there's 2 parts: when the ML is in husky form and when he turns back into a human. The first part was honestly very entertaining to read, with the setting being in the suburbs during MC's summer vacation. The tension... more>> comes from MC trying to get the black-belly ML on his side and dealing with his abusive father, all the while having awareness of ML's enemies who are in search of the husky form. There's also cute tidbits of friendship with original body's little followers too. THEN that part finishes and... all that tension listed above disappears.

The setting changes to a school term in their second year of high school. No more abusive family, the threat from the villain becomes trivial as ML in his human form is actually OP. They're supposed to be students but the part where they go to school doesn't really get shown at all, since all the school/normal mundane activities get skipped for "plot, " which is the romantic development between MC/ML and the introduction of the villain. When this was done during the first part it was fine since they were on summer vacation, but when the setting changes back to school, it seems like the author couldn't handle the abrupt change very well, since they still try to stick to the way they wrote the first part, but this definitely doesn't suit the school setting. (Reference for school setting done well is A Certain Someone and Peppermint, which actually mention studying, reviewing, taking tests, none of which gets mentioned here).

There's also the subplot of MC's "little brothers" who were good support characters in the first part but had no business being in the second setting, since they're normal suburban kids who don't go to the same school as the rich circle of kids in the city MC and ML now belong to. So it felt like the author forcibly kept them relevant by having MC go out of his way to help them find their paths (renting them all a place in the city and hiring elite tutors for them, like, is he a saint? and that's his parents' money btw) It was so forced I skipped their part altogether. I mean only 2 out of all the 7 little brothers' names were introduced, there's no need for the author to try so hard to keep their subplot going. Instead, the one whose subplot I was interested in since their character was established very well and has a proper story arc, the OG FL who became buddies with MC, her subplot in the latter half was done so flippantly and it's like her character just got discarded. I mean there was mention of the romance between her and ML's friend but it was only one sentence and then forgotten. It's like everything I liked in the first part just disappears in the second part, which is why it took me so long to try to reach the end.

TL;DR: Author messes up everything in the second part after the setting changes, hence the anticlimactic finish of the story. <<less

Ahem,

MC's point of view: I will successfully send the ML and FL on their way to a happy ending by avoiding flags and acting shamelessly!

ML's point of view: He can't be this dumb, right? There's no way... it would be better to just leave, but can I really leave him on his own?

This was actually way better than I had expected. In the beginning, the MC needs to explain his sudden personality change, so he does with DID, Fair warning, this is not what DID is actually like! The... more>> romance is slow burn, I've seen a few reviews say they were expecting it to happen sooner, so if you want them together by chapter 30, it's not gonna happen. If you're not into Yandere MLs, this one is pretty tolerable so you'll be able to read it without worry.

If you like funny, brain-holed, strong, shameless MCs, you'll definitely enjoy this one, he's the highlight of the novel in my opinion.

Overall, it's been a pretty entertaining read. <<less
