Chen Qizhao was reborn and returned to the age of 18 when he was still the wicked little overlord of the Chen family.

At this time, his brother hadn’t experienced a car accident while his parents were in good health and weren’t seriously ill. The Chen family was still the prosperous Chen family and everyone thought he was a good-for-nothing who was useless and easily taken advantage of.

“He only knows how to quarrel with his older brother every day. He is arrogant and willful!”

“He looks good, but unfortunately, he is an idiot.”

“Isn’t he a useless person? Just serve him well.”

“It is a pity about that child of the Chen family.”

There were the group of scoundrel friends who were full of thoughts, the rats eyeing him covetously and the old, cunning people who were secretly scheming.

Chen Qizhao put on a mask of arrogance again. ‘Do you like acting so much? Why don’t we act together?’

It wasn’t until later that everyone discovered that at the end of the play, they would either go bankrupt or be imprisoned.

Translation: (5/5 stars) Translation was excellent with minor inconsistencies.

Character development: (5/5 stars) : Can we just take a moment to appreciate the character development, both past and future of the MC? In many novels, you have a reborn character pretty much seemingly ok and going on with their revenge in life with no real mentions of any mental impacts everything had on them. This novel addresses them. Not only do we have the MC’s family noticing the change and taking steps to address the MC’s mental health issues, we also... more>> see the impact the ‘future’ had had on the MC. The MC lost his entire family, his home, comfort, found out many of his ‘friends’ were white eyed wolves who kicked him when he was down and he was working on avenging his family. He’s not ok, and the characters around him notice and take steps to fix that, and we see as the novel advances how his rebirth and everything that entails influences him. You see him going from not being ok mentally to slowly reaching it by the end of the novel.

Plot: (5/5 stars) This was a revenge novel around the idea that the MC was reborn prior to his families fall, and him preventing them from falling while taking down their enemies (and of course reuniting with the one person who helped him). And while he had made good head way in avenging his family the first go around, he discovers more with his rebirth.
Spoiler

When he learned that his older brother had to have been mu*dered and not committed su*cide in his first life it was just ‘oomph’ the feelings. It was sad and devastating as when it happened in his first life it definitely had a major impact on the MC. And it was also a genius way for the author to show what the MC missed in his first life compared to his rebirth after he was more experienced.

[collapse]

Novel overall: (5/5 stars) whether it’s in terms of plot or character development, this novel is the real deal and I would definitely recommend it. <<less

This was amazing!... Until it was not.

No, genuinely, the scheming, the tension, the paranoia... It was amazing, but the romance bit is ridiculous. It's not bad, but sometimes it's just too slow. All these details about that long slender fingers, their nape, their Adam apples and whatnot... Like, guys, this is not the time.

This is genuinely a surprisingly thing (even for me!) Considering I'm here specifically because it has an mlm pairing. At some point, I just wish the romance is not there at all.

Aside from that, everything else... more>> was indeed satisfying to read. Stopped a bit after MC was hospitalized due to his stress but up to that point, the plot was satisfying. <<less

5 Stars!

Very well written, a true story of revenge and overcoming.

The MC has seen all the people around him disappear or turn their backs, so he is forced to play up his personality, lower his head and move on. Years later, finally gets his revenge and that same day, he reborn.

Going back, he decides to correct everything that has happened, save his family and crush those who caused his suffering. But the path is not easy, he will have to use everything learned in his past life, investigate and devise... more>> a plan to be able to drag these people while trying to protect his family so that every "accident" of his past does not happen again.

This book has a very important point, and it is the first time I find it in this type of novels, the trauma of past life does not disappear. When he is reborn, he is haunted by the images of his life, by nightmares and by the incomprehension of how to protect and communicate with this family that he has already lost once.

On the romance side, he’s also very well-managed.

Both MC and ML have very different personalities but the tranquility and maturity of ML is just what the MC needs, in this life and in the past, becomes its most important point of support and its friendliness. As they get closer, the ML begins to notice the abnormalities in the personality of the MC, giving it support and understanding. When they start to develop feelings and the author describes the exchanges when they play with each other’s hands... that description of the knuckles and how they touch their hands is more detailed and sexy than many kisses I have read. <<less

If you wanted a rebirth-revenge novel that’s packed with schemes & more or less realistic psychological aftermath... this is it.

I’m actually very very pleased with this novel. The premise is something I’ve seen a number of times & it usually plays out as: MC dies/has regrets > time reverses > MC uses experience/future knowledge to get revenge/rid of regrets > happy ending DONE. The matter of how this plot is executed varies. Most MCs hug a golden thigh, others use deus ex machina tactics, & very few utilize sheer ingenuity.... more>> This novel’s protagonist is shrewd, calculative, but above all- a realistic take on someone who has been in the trenches & has suddenly been given a second chance to prevent the worst. Take it with a grain of salt, but Chen Qizhao is a great MC.

I didn’t dare look at reviews because I wanted to read this with a blank slate & I’m so glad I did because I enjoyed the ride much more than I expected. I wanted giggles & silly face-slaps, but I got the plotting of a lifetime. I honestly don’t know what I would’ve done if I was in MC’s shoes but it’s definitely not anything close to what he pulled off. <<less

A really good rebirth story with one of the sweetest slow burn romances I've seen in s while. It is also refreshing to see an OP rebirth MC that is realisticaly hurt, mentally, by the heartbreaking things he had to go through in his previous life. Yes, he is OP and will crush his enemies beautifully, but he is deeply impacted by his first life and need the help of those around him to get over it. Cudos for being awesome and human at the same time!

The story was well written. The MC is extremely intelligent and flawed. Constantly trying to change and prevent the tragedies of the past life from happening again tipped his sanity scale. I can see why he falls under moods of depression and anxiety. His love for his family and friends are genuine. He is willing to sacrifice himself to keep them safe. The villains are deep and highly capable as they try to out smart each other. The slow development of confessing love and commitment are sweet. The ML is... more>> patient and supportive. I wish them happiness. The downside of reading this was the translation halfway through started mixing up the characters’ name on almost all of them. It was a bit frustrating to untangle who was really who. <<less

4.5/5 (Rebirth, HEAVY ANGST, HE)

TLDR: Despite everything, It's still you

If you guys like perfect destiny you guys would like this, the MC is cunning whilst the ML is similar to LWJ

... more>> There's alot of drama and tension going on in the main story whilst the after story/extras are relatively very peaceful (I got bored of it fast and that's a good sign it's calming and fluff, frankly MC deserved a break)

If I had to describe the MC mf is just hit with clinical depression and severe anxiety, so if you like those you're in for a ride the man isn't magically cured and had to be hospitalised multiple times like the good angst it is

I haven't finished the extra but if I had to assume maybe in the end MC reverted back to his child where he was always happy go sunny or basically after the final arc you can see him slowly regaining his will to live <<less

This is one of the best regression stories I’ve read.

The complexities of the plot, the portrayal of Mc’s mental illness after what he experienced in his past life, the character growth of his family, as well as himself, the ML’s love and patience. I was so satisfied and sad to let this story go.

I love this!

I like how the author portrayed MC's mental illness, it was very realistic. The MC's very smart and scheming after experiencing all those horrible things before his rebirth takes a toll on him after his rebirth and is completely understandable. Alas! When he thought that he avenged his family before his rebirth and dying lonely in front of his family's grave is truly heartbreaking! I'm glad he was given another chance to finally trully avenged his family after uncovering the truth and finding the right culprit.

The ML, here... more>> is not your typical domineering president of a big company. He's scholary, a brainy young chemist. He's very gentle to the MC and always fought side by side with him. He never exposed MC's lies and tries his best to understand and be patient with him.

Overall a very nice read especially the extra chapters, the "what ifs". <<less

It is a very serious story which focuses more on the MC slowly taking apart his enemies who caused the downfall of his family during his rebirth. There is a lack of heartwarming scenes between his family members since he’s stoic and so are his family. The ML is also a serious guy.

The romance is subtle throughout and its like a soft vibe kinda romance. Nothing so overt.

Kinda boring tbh.

I really enjoyed this novel. The suspense of it had me at the edge of my seat hoping wishing and praying this child would be okay. I kept hoping he’d seriously take the time to talk to someone about the truth of everything but even until the very end he kept it to himself. I get that he probably decided to keep quiet after his dad and brother claimed he was lying, but I do wish he’d have expressed himself to ML more.

Not to mention I felt like his development... more>> was never expressed to us. Wish is fine, but I’d like to know if his paranoia and ptsd ever got better and whether or not he finally stopped randomly lying to ML.

outside of that, I really did enjoy this. It was so good and sad. I cried almost every time my bubbas was overwhelmed. I wish them a very happy rest of their life <<less

The mc's growth wasnt abrupt and very logical considering how much he went through his past life. His relationship with his family and friends was so awkward but they found the middle ground to compromise with each other healthily. He also didnt miraculously get better in his second life, and the author made the characters feel alive and so realistic that you can feel their distress at their most helpless times.

I had to pause at ch78 to cry a bit. While there have been many points leading up to the half way point that had my heart aching and tearing up, it all just accumulated when MC's mom held MC's slightly trembling hand.

This story is amazing. Definitely romantic subplot. The story is really more focused on MC, the tragedies in his life, and the relationships he has with his loved ones. All wrapped in a cocoon of suspense and tension.

Out of all of this, I just have to say I... more>> love love loooove MC's mom. So very little about her but she still shines through in the little things and small details of the story. She's such a well written character.

The ending was more like a soft closing of a chapter and things devolve more into almost slice-of-life romance. I hadn't realized it ended until I read through the flashbacks as extras lol <<less

What a fun novel! I love the mystery and the hidden bosses that pop up. Many people might get frustrated by the lack of clear communication between the MC and ml, and I think it's definitely something that wouldn't work well in the real world. The author even shows how poorly it works in the Mc's family. In this romantic novel though, the MC and ML are supposed to have such great tacit understanding, that even when they don't say something, the other can figure it out. This setting does... more>> lead to some really nice s*xual chemistry between the two as they feel each other out.

I also think the different family dynamics are really interesting - especially the mc's. The "showing love through actions, but only saying tough words" is such a traditional Chinese way of expressing familial love, I completely empathized. Expressing emotions verbally isn't the way every culture works, and for some people, this is really hard to understand, especially when young. And honestly, it can cause a lot of misunderstandings on both sides. One side sees someone who never thinks they're good enough and the other side sees reckless rebellion that needs to be tempered. Everyone is too close to the misunderstandings to communicate without further misunderstanding. No one has a cool enough head to try and see the other person in a more generous light. It takes distance, ability to calm down and listen to each other, and willingness to revise the mental image of the other person to really get past the misunderstanding. It was so heartbreaking to watch the MC trying to do that with his family.

Finally, I like how they portray the mc's mental struggle. I think the mentality now a lot of the times is to try to fix everything with a pill. But hospital stays and pills can really only do so much. Sometimes, people need to find ways to move past what is causing the mental issue - either by completely removing the cause as the MC does, or finding support from others (partners, family, friends). Sometimes, finding other things to live for and believe in helps. Or shifting mindset or understanding of the situation. But usually, passively taking a pill and going to therapy isn't really going to magically solve the problem. And sometimes, there's no real "fix", but finding a way to live with what's happened and not let it prevent living in the present. <<less

Satisfying second chance story. Although most of the plot is predictable, there are revelations that MC, Chen Qizhao, uncovers which adds suspense. Also, flavor is added when a close relationship in the last life develops into a romantic one. A happy ending for everyone except the villains.

I didn't read all of the extras since some of them were "what if" alternate worlds. Nah, not interested. I'm happy with the current ending so pretended they don't exist.

Spoiler

The ML's name is Shen Yuhai. Their romance is slow in this life but it's better than the last life where they didn't even realize their feelings for each other... although the actions of interest and care were there.

SPOILERS...

...

MC has many regrets from his last life. He slowly finds out that the deaths of his family and ML were disguised mu*ders.

His father was poisoned by aromatherapy and his meds swapped. His brother's car accident was caused by the family driver and his later su*cide was possibly mu*der. ML's death in a lab accident was likely caused by tampered lab equipment.

BIG SPOILER...

...

MC finds out that his revenge in his last life was one step short. He took down Lin Shizhong but there were others behind LZ. They were Gu Shen and his father, Gu Zhengsong. These people had used MC's family's business to trade in illegal drugs. To eliminate discovery, they wanted to wipe out MC's family and their business. This was also a new discovery that answered some of MC's questions from his last life.

Similar to good child. The MC gets a second chance at life. He's a rich second generation. Used to be a rebellious dandy. The MC is smart and wins the game of schemes against the invisible enemy who controlled things in the background.

The ML is a researcher and a student. He's a hot guy with glasses. Very smart.

Psychology plays a role. The MC has some problems but who wouldn't after everything he went through.

... more>> The schemes and revenge is dragged out until the main storyline ends at chapter 112.

This is a revenge-driven and family-oriented novel. There is not much BL until the latter half.

It has a very clear and logical progression of events. The past and present life was wonderfully intertwined with the present knowledge and discovered secrets. The schemes and conspiracies were well-written.

Spoiler

I love how the MC has psychological problems. It is very reasonable after what he went through.

Very meticulous and detailed plot, with an amazing MC with 3d side characters and their complex interrelationships.

Spoiler
  • MC seems a very realistic person.
  • It seemed very realistic how he suppressed himself and didn't leaked out emotions, keeping things all to himself and became all quiet and plotted things in secret.
  • After going back to 18, he didn't immediately rushed out crying and making a scene after meeting his parents and elder brother and go OOC acting all sticky and talkative with his family like usually happens in rest of rebirth novels.
  • It was very meticulously shown how distant he was with his family as they didn't spent quality family time together for bonding. So he quietly sometimes accompanied his mom to watch TV or eat meals with them, His rebirth didn't make him go OOC like I have seen in rest of the novels. Though he did cared for them.
  • MC as a person was a meticulous guy who properly plotted things and gradually came to know about the hidden knives pointing at his family. He wasn't all knowing OP God.
[collapse]

Spoiler

Considering the romance part, it was slow burn, and satisfying. It was how ML and MC got along from hi hello acquaintances to friends to lovers. And their chemistry and interactions always carried a subtle spark and serial tension with a sense of comfort and romanticism as many a times they silently accompanied eachother.

  • ML wasn't cold aloof guy, nor he was overbearing with a sense of superiority and seeing MC as little cute rabbit or a kitten as someone mentioned above. (Such description of MC in bg or bl are my pet peeves)
  • Both of them gave space to eachother and never interfered or spied into eachother's matters.

It was good. The scheming plot is good, even if a bit anti-climactic at times. I usually really get excited when it's time to close the net, didn't really happen here, but it actually made it a more relaxed read. I don't think there was much tension in the story, I didn't feel like there was any suspense at all, but overall I think the plans of the MC were interesting and well-executed. The MC is pretty likeable, his family is also good.

The romance was fine. ML is incredibly boring,... more>> but strangely I didn't mind it much, I felt like a chill drama free romance was what the MC needed. For me romance wasn't the focus, so I really didn't mind that it wasn't an engaging one. Before the end it didn't took too much attention away from the story. The story, while paced well, is structured differently from usual stories, so the romance and mental healing of the MC took the main stage of the story in the last quarter or so. I wasn't really bothered by it, I felt like it fit the story well, but not gonna lie I would have rather seen MC's interactions with his family and friends, than with ML. Thus, I didn't enjoy the extras. It does sound overly negative, but I'm pretty neutral about the romance in this book. I think it's really on the fluff side, which just doesn't fit my preference, but I can't hate the story for it. On a final note, I never understood why ML likes MC, but other than that, good.

Now, most people praise this book for it's psychological aspect and I don't think that was anything extraordinary. I don't think it's necessarily a genre I would give it. Yes, the story handles the MC's trauma from it's previous life a lot better than most stories... by acknowledging it exists. That's it. It's there, it's mentioned and gets some focus, but he's hardly irrational. He doesn't have paranoia, I wouldn't say he has anxiety because his behaviour is completely rational, as it has a direct cause and doesn't continue on after the cause was gone. His mental breakdown was hardly one, and his treatment was surface level. Don't get me wrong, it was fresh that it got mention at all, but based on the reviews I expected a lot more. Readers shouldn't have incredibly high expectations of the psychological aspect of the story. <<less
