Chen Qizhao was reborn and returned to the age of 18 when he was still the wicked little overlord of the Chen family.

At this time, his brother hadn’t experienced a car accident while his parents were in good health and weren’t seriously ill. The Chen family was still the prosperous Chen family and everyone thought he was a good-for-nothing who was useless and easily taken advantage of.

It wasn’t until later that everyone discovered that at the end of the play, they would either go bankrupt or be imprisoned.

Really nice revenge story with a little romance at the side!

There is no over-the-top face slapping but the revenge is still sweet and satisfying. This novel has one of the more elaborate revenge plot but still managed to remain cohesive throughout. The MC not only deals with the enemies he knew before his rebirth but also some that he didn't discover in the past. It is interesting to see the MC piece everything together.

I like the dynamic between the MC and his family. More often than not MCs in rebirth... more>> stories suddenly became so well behaved which is a bit unrealistic. However, the MC here is still awkward in showing his care towards his family and they only got closer after a while.

The MC is described as a madman in the title but he doesn't behave wildly and in your face. He's calm, cold and calculating. He has moments where he lost his temper but he reins it in quite quickly. He manipulates behind the scenes because he knew his actions look unreasonable without an explanation of his rebirth. The whole way through I was wondering if the antagonists will ever figure out the mastermind behind the scenes is MC but nope. I guess the MC played the playboy persona too well and the antagonists underestimated him due to his notoriety.

I think calling the ML average is a bit of an overstatement because he is from a wealthy family who later worked together with the MC's family to bring down the antagonists. The ML also managed to uncover some schemes and collected evidence that are useful for the MC. The MC tries to act like an obedient kid because he heard the ML like theis type. However, the ML was very observant and was able to tell when the MC lied. Still, the ML didn't call him out because he knew the MC have secrets and is willing to go along with him. Truly a man with high EQ. I didn't expect much from the romance but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. The romance is prevalent throughout the story but 90% of it was the getting-to-know-you to courting phase. Personally, I think it is reasonable because, before rebirth, the MC has never named what he felt towards the ML. So after rebirth, the MC still have to discover his feelings. Their spark comes in lingering touches and heated stares. If MC's family is his reverse scale, ML is his softness.

The romance might not be everyone's cup of tea because it is not passionate nor dreamy. Admittedly, despite how much I liked their courting phase their dynamic after they got together was lackluster. Nothing seemed to have changed aside from being more unbridled.

The side characters are ok but I personally really didn't like one of MC's friend, Yan Kailin. He just comes off as super irritating?? His character is the kind that plays around but is deathly afraid of his brother, hates being controlled but doesn't dare to argue back, like fooling around but doesn't know the danger.

Another thing to note is how high-strung the MC is about his family's death but seemed to be too chill about the ML's death..? Even if the ML's death is due to a lab explosion it didn't seem like the MC checked the authenticity of this incident despite how paranoid he usually is.

From what I've read, the events span over two years but it doesn't feel that way so it threw me off a bit when the author mentioned that. Regardless, it's an excellent revenge novel and the overall tone is not too heavy. Translations are great as well! <<less

  • basically the whole novel is REVENGE BASED btw the romance is so small and squeezed into last few chptrs only
  • ngl the author reminds me of kurokuro from kurokuro basketball anime aka THE AUTHOR shoves the potential of the MC OUT like I get that they want the MC to be very hidden and OP when carrying out the activities but he is unstable in someway but they emphasize on it a lot like as if it will bring the MC down I mean he is unstable but does not hinder his OP BADASS TECHNIQUES I wish the author let go and showed more ruthless side of the MC I felt tht fr the MC potential was lost a lot in that way
  • also the MC is very calculating this or the old life both I get that his family is very concerned for him but straight away to hospital yata yata admitting yata yata that part was too exaggerated and dragging the author could have used that timeline to show the glimpse of MC nd ML developing outwardly and freely at least without the villains
  • overall I just felt they made the villians too OP in a way like woah oh what so many targetting MC grp yahh then all joint joint but why only MC grp got so many its a bit unrealistic as much as it is possible but it made the story look forced and draggy
  • the MC could have more chtr development but oh well
  • ML is ig cold and stuff nd doting to MC both of them compliment each other very well

I usually don't rate before I finish a story, but this is already one of my favorite stories and I'm finding it too good to try to use MTL to finish, because I worry too much about missing subtle aspects of the plot without the best translation possible. Engaging me enough in the story to be patient for the latest releases instead of taking the instant gratification of the mtl version makes this a 5 star for me.

really good, a little confused about the motives of the main antagonist.

loved the romance between ML and MC, and how their relationship grows.

the realistic aspect of MC having struggles after being reborn as well as trying his best in the beginning to not deviate from his past image was also such a great touch to the story.

after all the ploting was done, the main villain dude is now jailed, ended, he took time to recover was the best part. Love the family and ML spoiling him! That and the what-if/alternative endings the author wrote! It's super sweet. I guess out of everything, the part that stuck to me the most was when the ML was going to die in the lab due to some equipment failure and the MC was crazy worried? For me, I think that's where the mc's worries are gone when the ML promised he would never die

The plot is so good. I loved it. It's got revenge, drama, sweet romance, and character development. I love the MC and the ML.

The characters were designed well. Everyone was vivid.

The plot was exciting and mystery after mystery were uncovered until the case finally come to a close. It was a long struggle for MC and my heart ache for him everytime the things from his past life made appearance.

It was a well written story, worthy of recommendation.

Bitter sweet with happy ending. I especially liked the fact that tragic past of MC has impact on his mentality. Characters seem alive. MC is smart and cunning yay, ML is smart, observing and understanding (and a vinegar jar, but it's seen only in a few chapters near the end), relationship of MC and his family is difficult and contradictory, but they're all trying, and that's so good. I thought it was a little novel about school bully, but was pleasantly surprised. Recommended for reading.

Edit: Complete (100% complete) Highly recommended! I love an unreliable narrator, I love Schemes and Plots and Conspiracies, I love a genuine romance that supports the plot as a whole and feels narratively consistent AND I love when the story truly impacts its characters and their decisions. I really enjoyed this story, especially because it feels as though the author really took their time to think through how each character would engage with the narrative and its tone is pitch perfect throughout.

I also want to compliment Rainbow Mushroom's translation! It... more>> read very well and I could clearly see some of the more subtle implications of the author's writing :)

Not a synopsis or summary. Just my reaction.

Wow.

Very underrated, and not usually what I choose to read, but it somehow became one of my favorites? The end made me cry which I rarely do. Maybe it was because I was already in a bad mood & feeling sentimental, but still.

I am very attached to the characters in this story and very sad to see it end with just 136ch. Though it took me a long while to read it all. I’m not sure what exactly made me like this so... more>> much.

It might be that the author made the main character feel real. That’s pretty much it. Love to see it. I might reread in the future as well! <<less

I'm in LOVE WITH THIS DANMEII!! I like it so much. Already re read it twice. It was so full filling. The family, the interaction, the chemistry, the bonding, the world building, the revenge. All of it was so good that I don't have words to say. I like that the MC was flawed in his own way even if he is so strong. ML is so caring. Their tactic understanding is great. And the EXTRAS are so cutee. The extras really fulfilled all my possible fantasies. ❤️❤️❤️

Surprisingly well-plotted, and really great character writing. I think what really stands out for me is how realistic the reaction of the MC is to his return to the past, and to the people around him. That was really refreshing to me. I will say the writing style of the novel itself wasn't necessarily for me, and the romance was also a little too slow for my personal taste, if I'm honest. Dragged for me in the second half, but the extras reeled me back into the couple.

The best revenge novel I've ever read. The whole novel is so depressed. Trully admire the author cause author can make me felt what is Qizhao actually felt. When Mother Chen said that Qizhao can tells her everything, I cried. It's a simple, casual word, but I can feel that it's more than that. Anyway, it was a really good one. In addition, for me, I think Shen Yuhuai isn't bland. He is the perfect match for Chen Qizhao, he always there for him, whether through his words, actions, or... more>> even just his precense. I think he is the pillar for Qizhao to lives through all of that. I really love both of them. Kudos for the translator, for the author telling this story to us, and to every character in this story (except for villains) cause it was an amazing journey. Happy read for all of you that still hesitate. <<less

Hmm... Conflicted o.o

How can I describe this novel?

After completing it, the parts that remain imprinted in my mind are the family moments. Seeing the Chen family go from severely awkward/ incapable of expressing their concerns nor love appropriately to finally being able to do so while still cutely awkward.

... more>> I must say, mother Chen suffered the most being stuck between her aloof husband and stubborn two sons aha!

I think I went into this book with too much expectation? I thought it would be similar to Rebirth: A different way (finished and read it like 3 times, amazing novel!!) or to Reborn as a Good Child (haven’t finished it bc it wasn’t translated fully at the times) but this book was very... Different.

if I’m being honest, the extras didn’t peak my interest in the slightest. I skimmed through most of those, I understand wanting to show the “what if” but I was more looking forward to the future that Chen Qizhao worked so hard towards alongside his family and we get to see that in the last two extra chapters.

it was overall a great novel, the love between Shen Yuhai and Chen Qizhao was very... sweet? Idk, I liked it overall but this whole novel just left a bittersweet taste on the tip of my tongue? Would I read it again? Probably not but it was definitely worth reading at least once!

I kinda wish there were more scenes of the family doting on Chen Qizhao!! <<less

This is one of rare modern rebirth stories that is well written, translated and has an actual plot. Not much of that endless dogblood/face slapping/cold gong trope that feels shallow and predictable with 2D characters especially the villains.

The MC acts and does things like you'd expect someone trying to correct a tragic past while keeping in mind his past self and actual age. The romance with the ML also a little more realistic and sweet. I guess it's little more fleshed out and psychological than your average rebirth/second chance novel,... more>> def recommend and would re-read. <<less
