“Until the day humanity falls.”

In the year 2020, Earth’s magnetic poles disappeared and humankind was nearly wiped out by cosmic radiation. Within the span of a hundred years, living creatures began to mutate and devour each other while the remaining humans, numbering in the tens of thousands, struggled bitterly in their man-made bases.

In the Abyss, home to the mutated xenogenics, there lived a sentient little mushroom. Because it had been nourished by the blood and flesh of the deceased human An Ze, not only did it take on a similar-looking human form, but a similar name as well: An Zhe.

An Zhe is determined to go to the human base to search for his spore, which had been harvested by humans. Once there, however, he faces the omnipresent risk of discovery and certain death as he tries to keep his non-human nature hidden from the Judges, whose responsibility is to inspect for and eliminate xenogenics like himself. And of all the Judges, Colonel Lu Feng is the most perceptive and merciless—as soon as he determines that someone is a xenogenic, he will execute that person on the spot.

But An Zhe’s mutation goes undetected by Lu Feng’s eyes, and so a tale of humans and xenogenics unfolds…

Was iffy about this cause of summary. Read due to trust in Chrysanthemum Garden Translating Team. Don’t regret it. Kinda cried at certain parts though.

This was really a exiting ride! This really took on a realistic approach, It wasn’t like those stories that is very sweet all the time. It’s a apocalypse novel about the races being against each other, how fragile humans are in reality, sacrifices of the people, the consequences.

And of course, the love between our MC and ML is fantastic.

MC and ML journey felt like, ’This is what reality looks like.’ It's a deja vu feeling because his love between them is similar to Romeo and Juliet however, it's a happy end.

Their interactions in the beginning was considered normal because of their situation, however, as they get closer with time. Their interaction with each other is very heartwarming and bittersweet. I wish that they could live on forever.

I thought that in the end of the story, it would be either the fall of mankind and a new rise for mutant living organisms. ML becomes one and they both end up together. But my assumptions was wrong once again, MC saves them, and humans soon they accepted the reality and some humans become mutant without the consciousness of a beast and retained intelligence as humans do. Although mankind turned the population of 1 billion into 8, 000. I feel like this ending is good enough rather than the extinction of one organism.

Even though I liked this novel, I gave it 4 stars because I have questions left unanswered in the end.

wow. Contrary to the summary, this book is intense and also filled with action and well written story line.

kudos to the translator! I felt like I was reading a purely english novel. Worth a re-read!

Furthermore, I like how the judge stands by his actions. It *is* for the good of humanity but as a normal human, it is very hard to accept a judge who kills their infected loved ones. It takes a certain kind of personality and I am glad he found it in An Zhe, who is not even human at all. <<less

I had to write a review because I was so impressed by this novel. The synopsis made me think it was just one of those cliche apocalyptic novels with an OP ML and a pretty-boy MC with powers, but this was ANYTHING but cliche or predictable, that is for sure.

One of the reasons I was so surprised is because there is nothing supernatural or xianxia (cultivation from mushroom to human) about the plot, everything is science fiction and well-thought out, which makes this such a masterpiece from the author and... more>> from the translator for the science jargon and hypotheses so beautifully written. Nothing is left unexplained, the MC and the ML are not superhumans who get to save everyone and themselves in all situations, all characters have their good and bad sides and are very fleshed-out, and the relationship between the main leads is so satisfying without being fast. There is no explicit, and very little if at all implied, smexy scenes, but I felt like that made everything all the more precious.

To talk about the plot, it follows the mushroom MC as he takes on a human identity to take back the spore that was stolen from him from the human base, where he discovers what humans are all about and how unpredictable and beyond common sense human thought can be, and how we are cruel and kind, ugly and beautiful, in so many ways. It definitely made me think of what the end of the world would really be like, if it were to come, and the author has interpreted it so amazingly. <<less

I am not a good reviewer. I can only describe this story into one word : excellent.

This is brilliant work. I wonder, how the author did the research before he built the plot?

I am not a science student so a lot of words are confusing to read. I started to understand what it feels like to be a simple mushroom....

I love this book very much! Now part of my favourites! This book's setting is really unique, like no other story out there. The world of the story is also well established and has been explained superbly! I've also learned a lot from this story! An Zhe and Lu Feng are made for each other! I love them both! Thanks to the author and translator for sharing such a magnificent story to us readers. I enjoyed their world a lot. It wasn't as fluffy and cute as the title (that brought me here) is, but it didn't disappoint. I had mixed emotions reading this. I'll miss the characters a lot, especially the leads. I remember that I read this book ages ago, waiting for a new chapter to come out. I just found it again and thought I'd write a review. This made me cry, so, so much. It's so sad, but a HE, I didn't think it was going to be a HE when I read it, so that made the whole experience 10x more emotional. I was hit with so much nostalgia when I accidentally clicked on this. You'll love it as well.

I wouldn't have been surprised if An Zhe permanently died or if they died together but I'm so fecking glad it was a happy ending T^T ?

I found it super cool how they kept sneaking in hints and introducing characters earlier on Cuz they end up actually showing up by the end like Tang Lan and old man Polly (their introduction to the story was so short at the start, I never thought they'd actually be still alive and be part of the plot. Also like how they kept mentioning that An Zhe's spore was more important than his life yet he doesn't have a relationship with it like it's his child (cuz it's basically him himself)

At first I don't expect this much, but the story is very attractive.

Thank you so much for translating!!

The summary is really REALLY misleading. Even though I saw some comments about it before, I realised how misleading it is after I read it. Doesn't mean it isn't great, just the opposite.

It's amazing, sad, sometimes a bit funny and cute. I love how MC and ML are totally different, but somehow it still works between them (more or less). There are some heartbreaking moments, so prepare your tissues. And go read it, right now.

I think this is one of the webnovels I will come... more>> back to from time to time.

Must read! Did not expect to like it so much!

The world building is amazing and the characters resonate with you.

The ML and MC both grow and evolve. There are no quick fixes here. This is definitely a slow romance, but I think you get to savour it a lot more because of that.

Definitely give this one a shot! The translator has also done a fabulous job!

After I finished reading this novel, it left me wanting for more. That's how good the novel is, like each and every character are very memorable!

Especially the MC and the ML ? They are soo precious and cute!! And I tell you this is my first time ever loving the ML; compare other novels I've read. Even their interaction with each other are so cute that my heart melts.

I LITERALLY CRIED ? ESPECIALLY THIS SENTENCE "He is just a little mushroom" ? It's sooo good that I cried for them,... more>> even the side characters!

The plot, the worldbuilding, the characters, all of them are 10 out of 10!!

I even re-read them again ?that's how good it is!!

I might be repeating myself but this novel will forever be my soft spot ? !! Thank you to the translator for picking this novel up! ? <<less

I looked at this description and the title and went "hm... how good can it be?" Actually: quite good! Thought it was going to be fluffy but it's actually kind of thoughtful.

The characters are true to themselves and the plot is interesting. The usual apocalypse novel setting but it feels like the world-building has been a bit more thought out than usual. Not much real romance Romance at the moment but I didn't mind the wait...

The only BL novel tat got me googling for definitions and terms LOL. The story is well written, author obviously put a lot of efforts and researches into the story. Amazing world building, I had to re read (in a gud way) to understand bcos of the grand descriptions hahahaa. Amazing TL too by rainbow turtle.

A lot of actions, I can even say a lil thriller, more to a serious side. The romance is a slow burn tho and not much dog foods if u r looking for these type.... more>> Still this novel sets itself apart from others. <<less

I didn’t expect how the author managed to write all this angst and despair while still not breaking the readers thanks to the calmness of the little mushroom.

I don’t think I ever read another book with this type of atmosphere. I highly recommend it!

I’m also really surprised how the author managed to make sense of the sci-fi setting and gave a proper explanation. Never though that string theory could be interpreted this way!

It was good. I cried, I felt sad, but I feel like it probably wasn’t much of a 4.9 and more of a 4.8. The MC’s a mushroom, so you can’t really decipher his emotions, but the author also writes small things that show he just doesn’t understand how he feels.

It’s cute, it’s sad, and I like how things were explained. Still, some of it was scientifically incorrect, and I feel like MC could’ve known about ... more>>
