“Until the day humanity falls.”

In the year 2020, Earth’s magnetic poles disappeared and humankind was nearly wiped out by cosmic radiation. Within the span of a hundred years, living creatures began to mutate and devour each other while the remaining humans, numbering in the tens of thousands, struggled bitterly in their man-made bases.

In the Abyss, home to the mutated xenogenics, there lived a sentient little mushroom. Because it had been nourished by the blood and flesh of the deceased human An Ze, not only did it take on a similar-looking human form, but a similar name as well: An Zhe.

An Zhe is determined to go to the human base to search for his spore, which had been harvested by humans. Once there, however, he faces the omnipresent risk of discovery and certain death as he tries to keep his non-human nature hidden from the Judges, whose responsibility is to inspect for and eliminate xenogenics like himself. And of all the Judges, Colonel Lu Feng is the most perceptive and merciless—as soon as he determines that someone is a xenogenic, he will execute that person on the spot.

But An Zhe’s mutation goes undetected by Lu Feng’s eyes, and so a tale of humans and xenogenics unfolds…

A f*cking amazing novel. I binged it in a day because it was so addictive. I made an account just to review this roller-coaster ride. It is one of the best apocalyptic novels I've ever read on this site and really drives home the despair and bleakness of the end of humanity. I was avoiding reading this because I didn't like the synopsis, but honestly it's just a trap lol. I had to keep reminding myself that it's a happy ending to get through the pain.

EDIT: It's not one of... more>> those common zombie apocalypse+power user tropes you see everywhere in CN novels. This version of the apocalypse is a lot more terrifying. <<less

This story is a HE. Legitimate joy awaits at the end. Do not worry! Do not let the weird title deter you! Do not let the fact that the MC is a... mushroom deter you!

Solid story. Solid ending. Good twists. Good plot progression. A+ characterization. Would recommend. 5/5.

Story's setting is dark and post-apocalyptic with monster mutations. Humanity is trying to survive in a few remaining bases. It's dark, as in like Attack on Titans dark, but no important characters (in my book) die. Death and emotional conflict are central... more>> to story. Different characters take up different moral positions on various serious aspects of the remaining human society, and they all come to their own conclusion or non-conclusion. Characterizations are not exaggerated as a lot of sad or angsty webnovels seem to be. There is some fluff between the ML and MC, enough to make you bawl your eyes out when something happens to the couple, but not enough for this book to be considered just dogfood. Plot progresses smoothly and each plot point has significance, aka the story was planned out well and nothing got dragged out. Very happy reading this story. It was gut-wrenching in the middle, but the author decided to give us a happy way out at the end. <<less

This is one of the best stories I have read. This is really wonderful especially the feeling between the MC and ML. Both of them know they are destined to be enemies but gradually fall in love without knowing.

And even though they fall in love they know they each perform their own duty especially the ML his unwavering faith is something to be applauded for.

And the most beautiful thing about MC is he is scared and knows the ML will kill him if he knows his true identity, MC is... more>> scared but gradually comes to understand ML that his every action is for humanity and he falls in love little by little.

This is such a beautiful story. I usually stay from tragedies but after reading I fell like how could I miss such a good novel.

Thankfully it is a HE. So I fully recommend it. U will never regret. <<less
