“Until the day humanity falls.”

In the year 2020, Earth’s magnetic poles disappeared and humankind was nearly wiped out by cosmic radiation. Within the span of a hundred years, living creatures began to mutate and devour each other while the remaining humans, numbering in the tens of thousands, struggled bitterly in their man-made bases.

In the Abyss, home to the mutated xenogenics, there lived a sentient little mushroom. Because it had been nourished by the blood and flesh of the deceased human An Ze, not only did it take on a similar-looking human form, but a similar name as well: An Zhe.

An Zhe is determined to go to the human base to search for his spore, which had been harvested by humans. Once there, however, he faces the omnipresent risk of discovery and certain death as he tries to keep his non-human nature hidden from the Judges, whose responsibility is to inspect for and eliminate xenogenics like himself. And of all the Judges, Colonel Lu Feng is the most perceptive and merciless—as soon as he determines that someone is a xenogenic, he will execute that person on the spot.

But An Zhe’s mutation goes undetected by Lu Feng’s eyes, and so a tale of humans and xenogenics unfolds…

All time you read, say yourself "This is Happy End" This story can be cute and sweet. But this also will be slowly killing you. It's cruelty with anxiety and despair. I love this.

MC is Little Mushroom, who originally didn't have feelings and wishes. He just wanted get his spore. He experiences human life meets new people and become more similar to human.

Relationship with his lover pretty difficult but it's good. They step by step become depending on each other. And they need to do complicated choices. Them hurt, they... more>> hesitate and suffer. And after all this you are really happy when they're happy.

Apocalypse atmosphere and setting also good. You are feel this fear when you cannot do anything and you forced kill people your hands. I also love that even in this times you can see how MC and ML can enjoy time spending together happy.

It's really touching and sad story. If you going to read, you will be cry so many. Not only because sad also because too cute. <<less

This isn't a story where the ML falls in love at first glance. He's actually really untrusting. The MC is a little mushroom... literally. He's really cute and naive but he turns ruthless if you hurt his spore. It's not as lighthearted as it looks in the description but it's so good any way. If that was what you were looking for, well... try this anyway. You'll love it!

This novel is perfection. The summary is completely misleading on how dark and full of despair this novel is.

All the characters are beautifully written and have their own personality. The author beautifully describes the nature and desparation of the people living in this apocalyptic world. The world building, character building all the interactions, , , priceless.

The MC and ML, , , their interactions and seeing them develope their friendship then their relationship. Seeing the ML gently tease the MC and the MC quietly supporting the ML. God this easily my... more>> top 3 novel.

Everything is so vividly written that you can't help but care for the characters and worry about what is going to happen to them.

PLEASE READ LITTLE MUSHROOM

To me, little mushroom is peak sci-fi. The most interesting thing about it is that the main character isn't human, so it explores humanity from the perspective of an outsider. Instead of seeing humanity as either this bad thing that's harming the world or the greater good, it's all from a pretty objective lens. Remember, every single encounter is important for the main character, because this is the first time he's come into contact with humanity. There's good people, bad people, nice people, odd people, people he... more>> doesn't understand, people he tries to understand, and ultimately he manages to find someone that he hopes he can understand more. There are small things spread through the novel that aren't necessarily important to the plot, but they're there to show the main character the nature of humans.

Through the whole thing, there was a sense of melancholy and sadness that I don't often feel when reading other novels. A good amount of apocalypse novels is focused more on the main character fighting to survive the cruelness of the world. Little mushroom I feel is more focused on the world fighting to survive the cruelness of the universe. Or is it really cruelness? Maybe it really is just the natural order of things.

Please please please read little mushroom. (It'll only give you a little bit of an existential crisis, I swear) <<less

I've never written a review and I'm not even good at it, but just so you know I bingeread the novel in 32 hours, yes without stopping (other than for the necessities) and I'm so lacking in sleep right now that I can't open my eyes but I don't regret it, ever. If I ever get a chance to lose my memory, this would be my first novel to reread truly.

it's not fluffy at all, but those rare moments of happiness made me laugh through my tears. I read... more>> this novel without actually knowing what it was about so be ware there is angst, a lot of tragedy, when I see a LOT I mean it. So prepare your tissues and don't get attached to any character, I was even bawling hard each time something happened.

"A mushroom" "he was just.. A little mushroom "

yeah if you know you know.

i had to stop a few times to breath and refresh especially at the end.

have a nice read all, you won't regret, just start reading and u won't stop. <<less

Touching, beautifully portrayed world and story!! The characters have depth and the story has meaning, but it’s also very digestible. Incredible work.

I read on novelcool. Com and liked it so much I bought both physical copies on amazon!

No spoilers: but I cried my heart out reading this. I truly wish I could experience it for the first time again!!!

Absolutely read this if you’re considering, especially for fans of slow burn, sci-fi, and complex world building.

Thank you to the author for bringing such a beautiful story to life.

"Little Mushroom" is one of the best stories I've read in a while. The writing is also excellent, I could really feel the anxiety and horror as the events took place and An Zhe and Lu Feng with their gay tension are so cute.

Anyways, the summary goes like this. The magnetic field of the earth just vanishes one day and no one's sure why this has happened and because of it, there's gene distortion among all living things, ants get giant, animals merge to become lovecraftian typa creatures and so... more>> on. The novel focuses on the lengths humans go to survive and the systems they come up with to combat danger for the good of humanity as a whole even though in the process you really start debating what being human means. The way some of the systems are set up in place really haunts you with that question. The MC is a sentient mushroom, yep you heard that right, and his spore got taken by the human base and he goes to find it. The story starts from there and it is one hell of a ride. Agh, and yes GAY COUPLE, THE FLAVOR, MWAH.

I enjoyed reading "Little Mushroom" so much, I'm gonna start reading another danmei asap or this abyss in my heart will consume me whole. Cried my bloody soul out in the last chapter but yes happy ending.

It's perfect.

Definitely read it. <<less

Gosh this is novel is so freaking beautiful, it’s the kind of story that either makes you reread it just for the heck of it or just encountering it while searching for your next read months or years later and you still remember how it made you feel☺️. Bonus side is that it also has a manhua with a beautiful art style and some very cute art style that I love unlike the others that leaves me quite unsatisfied.

I honestly had a great time reading this novel. Every moment of them meeting and then parting always leaves me hope that everything would be fine in the end. I loved how both An Zhe and Lu Feng are oh so loveable, really, even more so as the story progresses. The story progression is just right (help I can't really explain but its *mwah* good). Honestly, just GIVE IT A READ!!!

also I had hoped that there would at least be a chapter for the side ship :> ehehhehe

I literally love this novel so much. Chef's kiss. I will be buying merch at the first chance I get.

MC is very cute if a bit naive at first because he's only been human for a couple of months.

ML is depicted as cold at first but you really see his character peek through while reading the novel

I loved every minute of reading this novel, and I think it’s one of my favourites so far. The world is very well described, very detailed. The characters, both main and secondary, have interesting and heartbreaking stories behind them. It was happy to see An Zhe's growth, to learn more about the way the he thinks.

The plot was also amazing, although it was emotionally difficult for me to read at times due to the events that happened.

I’ve finished it a few days ago, and I’m still going through my notes... more>> to process everything.

Thanks to Yi Shi Si Zhou for writing such a masterpiece. <<less

the story is entertaining and fast-moving with few slow spots. Although the story becomes a bit tangled towards the end, it’s not significant enough to detract from the overall experience!

the author's writing style is a masterpiece! The evocative dialogues create an immersive experience allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in the world.

this novel is definitely worth reading, I tell you! It’s set during an apocalypse, it doesn’t have any OP characters. Our little mushroom! An zhe (MC) is innocent and naive, gets teased by the love interest lu feng! (ML)... more>>

both the MC and ML are incredibly unique. In fact, the entire novel is one of a kind! Im confident that every aspect of it stands out, the novel centers on their interactions and bond very well and nicely. Its truly unlike anything else out there. <<less

It's sweet, short and as it should be because some of these novels drag on. This one is good and HE too. I did cry because I didn't know it was HE until the end. It feels so tragic and there's a lot of unspoken angst. There's no cringe moment, no drama, and the focus is on the story, the scifi back story reminds me of Ghibli.

Oh and if you think the shou is dumb or weak, he's not. He's more like non-human and that is a good thing because... more>> that is what he is in the plot and that's perfect. Reminds me of Data from startrek who is an android, often confused by human behavior and practices, views the world through the eyes of a curious child but Data learns, he grows, he adapts, and he doesn't let the bad things in life corrupt him. He protects what is important to him, keep trying to reach his goal, and understand sacrifice for others. That's what An Zhe is. XD Maybe one day they'll make a gay android in startrek. <<less

It's.. Okay. Maybe I was expecting too much with how everyone was hyping it, but it's good. The romance is subtle and it has happy ending. The author made up for the subtle in romance in the main story by making the side stories really fluffy.

Will I repeat? Probably not. It was interesting in the very beginning, but even when with the chaos happening, I don't find myself to be absorbed into the novel. I would say it's good for one time read

P/S: read the manhua first! You can read... more>> the first few chapters to get an image of the world/characters (if you need imagination to read novel like me). The art is gorgeous and I think they made a good job at drawing the characters like how it's portrayed in novel. The MC has pure innocent vibe to him while ML is cold and stern <<less

very good writing, incredible the study the author had to write this story, at times it was a little tiring, but it was a very immersive story.

This book brought up many things about the world, on a level that I feel reflective about even now.

Beautiful.

There were very poignant moments that made me love the novel.

The story unravels the world with thought-provoking words that makes it very much more than a romance story.

... more>> Indeed, the world building was pretty solid and as the story goes, it is well-written (which others have already mentioned).

It leans more towards a serious plot than a soft cute one, with fleshed-out characters and intriguing circumstances.

I actually read this novel a long time ago but found it again and decided to give a review.

The novel came up when I was searching through the doomsday genres and I was at first reluctant to read it because of the author's blurb (which made it sound like a fluffy love story - it was used as a description on NU at the time) but I'm glad I decided to read it after all.

--Still among the best novels I've encountered after so many years. <<less

The romance is slow and interaction between An zhi and Lu feng is so little that it shouldn't be called "slow romance" the better term is fast romance. I cannot find myself to give a single f*ck about the story, its safe to say that I am Not into the sci-fi genre. It only looks cool in the heavy set cgi marvel movies. Humans are visual creatures and its really brain burning to visualize so Much going on. You know what I am saying, and the interaction btween these two... more>> people who are supposed to love eachother like its their last time together but interaction is like grain of sand and most of the time Lu feng is "cold and Cold and cold. And An Zhi is expressionless because he is a "mushroom" so no emotions no smiling crying laughing. Like Give me Something man come On. Istg in order to avoid extra writing the authors love this trope of the Gong being "Cold" and the shou is Dumb so no expectations from him either.

Spoiler
[collapse]

Some chapters are just fillers scroll past I ain't reading allat.

Overall its really f*cking boring <<less

A stunning read. Highly recommended.

The characters are unique and the story telling is really good. From someone who's somewhat became numb from reading too many books, this one actually took me through a rollercoaster of emotions. I still wish it didn't end so I still keep reading it a few more times. 💕 Try it! Definitely won't regret reading this one💕💕
