I absolutely looooved the story! But after rustycol stopped translating I understood nothing. No hate to Chichi! But the names were always different and time and place made no sense so that I had to discontinue it.. Currently searching for another site to read it, anyone got any recommendations?

How do I even review this? I'm sitting here, not even 30 minutes after completing the novel, and thinking damn Liu Yao was so much better than I ever thought it would be.

I think a bit of my shock comes from the fact that Xianxia- no, even Wuxia and historical novels have just never been my fancy. I don't dislike them, nor do I go out of my way to not read them, they just don't catch my interest the way other genres do. But Priest, wow, she was able... more>> to write a story that made me genuinely interested in cultivation- the world-building is superb! I feel as though reading Liu Yao finally made me get why others are obsessing over it.

It really brought me out of my comfort zone and gave me a new perspective, not on novels, but on life. I wasn't expecting it to have such a big impact, but it affected me so much that I picked up drawing again; Liu Yao truly inspired me.

I'm not saying it'll have the same effect on everyone who reads it, but it really came to me at the perfect time. I fear that it may have just become my new favorite novel, right behind ORV. <<less

Could have been a favourite of mine, but it was both too little and too much.

It had too little bonding moment and growth chapters, often utilizing time skips which is alright considering that no one wants to read the entire hundred of years that passed in between time skip, but maybe a few months and snippets in between could have helped attach the readers more to the characters.

On the other hand, it had too much explanation for the world building, it kind of felt like a bullet point story where... more>> okay scene 1 contains this then next. There’s not enough fluff.

It really had great characters though and I loved them, they were all very human. Muchun Zhenren and Tong Ru were really tragic, that last extra made me want to bawl my eyes out. <<less

Wowwwww, where do I even start...

This novel was just GREAT! So f*cking great! Just what I wanted from a cultivation novel and more. Don't ask me wat it is that I "wanted". Tbh Idk myself, I just know that I'm thoroughly satisfied and feel very very veryyyyyyyy happy that I read this amazing story.

... more>> Priest never disappoints! I loved this one as much as I loved peerless and jin se.

Before starting the story I've glanced at some reviews and one of them said something along the lines about how MC wasn't in as much love as ML was and ngl this thing remained stuck in my head and kept on making me scared if it's like that. But after reading the story I find this is just bad phrasing and bull. I mean kinda it makes sense somewhat and if I could maybe I do want MC to show much more outward love but they both love each other very much. But also once again, I do kinda get wat the other commentor meant too. At times it do feel that ML is more in love than him. Dk wat I feel I'm fickle lol.

But all in all, wat I wanna say is just go ahead and read this! READ IT!! DON'T LOOK AT ANYMORE COMMENTS AND WASTE TIME, GO READDDDD! Yeah so u can guess how much I enjoyed it lol.

The 5 disciples are all lovable as.
Spoiler

I didn't know the demon one would turn out to be han yuan, like damnnn!

Also tang zen, sighhh, wat to even say about him. I feel really really sad for him too. Like if u think about it he was a tragedy.

Also the last extra made me so emotional and melancholic like just (╥﹏╥) such a bittersweet ending our tong ru and his xiao chun got.

[collapse]

I wish tong ru and his xiao chun a happy life together where ever they r. And also may tang zen gets peace and somehow reunite with the empress cause he really did love him. He was a tragedy. Also my poor baby liu lang too, have a peaceful life baby. And my yao birdie, wat a sweet soul they were. Also zhe si, and xuexia I'm sorry I forgot the name π_π

Lastly, I really liked the han yuan and demon bickering! Also the 5 disciples are so funny and perfect together. It was good it all ended well.

This is my longest review yet I feel, I'm not sure but I would like to end it with this excerpt from the novel that completely touched my heart and made me feel so many feelings.

"Even if pining never bore any fruit, there was no harm in melancholy turning to a pure craze.

In all likelihood, if one could die without regrets, that could be seen as ascending, couldn’t it?"

❤❤❤

I definitely recommend reading this AMAZING novel!!!!!!!! <<less

The things I liked:

The unique MC and ml, the found family and tight bond between the sect members and

the substantial yet character maintaining- development of ML MC, along with their mutually respectful- yet so in character romance.

... more>> Like, Cheng Qian is a wooden block with stone heart- even in love, he can't handle extreme stickiness or shows physical affection. But becomes extremely tolerant and has his own moments of vulnerability and affection he shows. It's different, it fits.

Now the problems—

First, the plot. I. I didn't really understand what was the underlying cause and effect in the story. What and who did why what? That was basically me reading. Ok, it might be my fault for not thinking carefully but I really tried. Their conversations changed directions from one thing to another, then some new person pops up, some new array... Smthn of past... idk man.

I mean I think I understood somewhat, but I am not too sure.

Second, the side characters (and Li Yun)

Forgotten af. They, being quite weak can't participate much in battles, but they appear once, disappear in the chaos then appear again, randomly. Not much depth, being sticky more or less.

Third, the cultivation world. I understand the philosophy of heaven and earth and all, but I couldn't comprehend some of the cultivation techniques despite having read many novels.

Seriously, what technique allows you to increase in size?? Wha??

All in all, a bit of incomprehensible plot, negligible romance balanced by ever changing plot and humor + family

That's basically is lu yao imo. <<less

Love you Priest thank you for being born.

Onto the novel. The characters are very well developed, they match each other well, the ship is very fresh and lovely. Warning for tears, no matter how much it starts off as a comedy, it's Priest after all so crying can't be avoided. The plot is amazing as always, things are hinted at enough times for people to guess the outcome, and it does not disappoint. I'd have wished for there to be more chapters, but that's to be expected. There's too many... more>> tlr changes, which is somewhat bothersome, cause the change in tl choices is very glaring, but as the last one is re-tling the ch from the begging you can choose to wait till that's done. <<less

I enjoyed this a lot, the romance was a little meh, but that's hould be expected with priests books so it didn't put me off too much. But I do like that the MC and ML are not perfect and they question to things around them.

Basically read it and get to witness as an imperfect group of people grow from hardships.

Okay I plan to make a bigger review in more detail but since I've just binge read this in a night and day this is a simple one.

so my thoughts are if you enjoy a deep world that goes into expansive thought into what cultivation and Ascension is what it means to be a cultivator what it means to be immortal this is for you

while some people say the main love interest and main character do not have a strong Romance I have to disagree to me the romance was... more>> very strong but Subtle. Which for me was for their characters had a way bigger impact on me than if it was just love bombs everywhere and to me that mainly had to do with they were kids, for half of the book and really what the circumstances they were under it would be kind of unrealistic to expect a big romance with everything that was happening with them.

To me it really shows how they developed in their emotions with each other but mainly the thing that struck me was the found family aspect of this.

weather it's to do with the peac*ck male lead or the serious but loyal MC, the always getting into trouble Second brother or the dumb but mischievous Han yuan or our little crybaby puddle they all ended up finding their way into my heart and all of them whether good or bad had a very strong character development.

Especially the MC, ml, and, Han yuan and to be honest it shocked me how much I loved this novel at first I thought this was gonna be a comedy slow paced story then it hit you real quick with all the drama and the angst and sadness of their situation.

But yeah this definitely became my favorite Danmei. And without a doubt will be one that I remember for a long time and will probably do a reread to give some more thoughts! <<less

Not a favourite out of the Priest novels. The plot is all over the place at points, certain scenes made my head hurt trying to understand what was even going on. But, the plot is executed well enough to still understand the main points and since it isn't the most important part of this novel, it's not a deal breaker.

The strongest part of the novel are the characters, which were executed pretty well. So if you don't mind being confused at times for the sake of a really interesting cast,... more>> go right ahead. <<less

My favorite of Priest's. I don't like angsty novels. Every chapter was a despair in my heart. But I can't stop loving it because the story is fascinating and touched my heart from the beginning.

Priest has a ton of great works and I haven't read them all, but Liu Yao really has a special place in my heart. It holds up well for rereadings.

It's a very cosy novel. The family of disciples is cute and the main couple is so funny. Not too much overt romance, but enough pining for a tasty read.

Also I love that dumbass peac*ck (affectionate) Yan Zhengming so much.

Some of the more esoteric stuff went over my head at first. Wish I could read and understand the original Chinese, it... more>> must be even better.

Really recommend to most people unless you want smut scenes or sprawling epics. It's a 'quieter' story if that makes sense. <<less

Wow, this novel was one hell of a ride. The plot, world building, and character development are all very complex. This has to be my favorite novel about cultivation yet, it is just immersion overload.

The story just kept me hooked, the knives hurt, and the fluffy moments were also there. The characters are the best, I love their lil sect family and how they overcame all the struggles and hardships they went through. Each of the main Fuyao sect members were well developed. I also love how realistic the interactions... more>> of the CP were, like it isn't forced and they aren't shallow h**ny monsters (unlike some novels out there).

Would recommend 10/10 <<less

This is huge roller-coaster. Ups and down, ups and down, fluff and pain. Fluff and pain again. Super master piece.

The best things is the growth of the characters. All of them splendid. Luv it ;3

My fav part is; even in big criss or in huge battle, their Fuyou Sect siblings still bickering each other. So funny and fluff. Hahahhahaha

I gonna read this thing agian ❤️❤️❤️

I started reading this novel about a year or so back when the translation was only updated to bout chapter 71 and only now have I been able to fully finish the novel and MAN it has not disappointed!! The found family dynamic makes me want to laugh and cry all the same, the way the characters have developed, all their flaws (because none of the protags are perfect by any means, and the whole bit with each of their precepts was a touch that I adored because it meant... more>> room for growth and change), the battles they have to fight through (both mentally and physically), and the pining? Gosh the pining was phenomenally executed. And the fact that the BL wasn't on the forefront, it was more so something on the sidelines of the main story, I liked that quite a lot too.

The humor is fantastic and never failed to bring a smile to my face, and constantly there were lines and parts where I'd have to stop and completely reconsider my place in the universe and think about my regrets and hopes and dreams and dang even with all the tiny crises I had reading this, it was worth the read.

The only thing con I would have is the amount of difficultly I had keeping up with what was happening along the last few arcs. Just--lots of terminology and even as someone who can understand Chinese, just keeping track of everything (especially since I jumped into the novel like a whole year after I started it) was definitely hard for me. Otherwise, love love love this novel so much; it's definitely up there in my favorites and I'd recommend it to anyone willing to give found family a shot. <<less

Okay, so, I'm near to completing this novel so I am updating my review. Yes, the first part of this novel does deserve that 2 star rating. Books 1 and 2 really did test my compulsion to keep reading. But I had already gotten so far and, though the story was boring me to anger, I wanted my payoff, gosh darn it. So I kept reading, and thank god I did. While this story is far from 5 stars, book 3 and up is worth at least 3.5 stars. Overall,... more>> the second half of this series really saves this story. I at least got my payoff. Although I think this story can be a skip. I only started reading out of curiosity cause I saw it was getting a Donghua, but personally it doesn't live up to the hype. <<less

First let me talk about things that I like from this story. I love the interactions between the main characters. It feels like a real family. Although they like to bickering with each other everywhere everytime, when one is in dire straits, the others would even willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of the other. It not only happens to the main cp, but also the whole Fuyao Sect family. The romance isn't toxic at all (there are so many novels I've dropped because the relationship is very toxic,... more>> with kind of overpossessive character). The main character's bound (5 disciples from Fuyao) is truly likable. But there are also a few (not many) parts that make me can't give it 5 stars. First, the MC is sometimes too overreacting, to the point that it became unnecessary if not for the sake of plot development. Second, many parts got me confused. Maybe it's just that my understanding toward the plot is low. Well, those are all just my personal opinions. All in all, a warming story and good to read. <<less

There's isn't much romance to go off here, they are more like brothers.

The first 30 chapters was already the peak of this novel. The sect disciples. Their master and their backstories had me in tears.

This cultivation novel is more about exploring human nature and the human heart, you won't get those flashy face slaps you typically do in those standard cultivation novels.

The novel explores characters and their psychologies, everything they think about. We see how they transform and grow from these tribulations and make them grow from their innocence childhood.... more>> No longer protected from the one in infront, how they face the world that bores malice towards them for not who they are but where they are from. Alot of blood and tears / sacrifices I can't stop being enamored by the novel and how it portrays human emotions and motives

Master and grandmaster relationship I want to see more of that, that gaves me the vibes more than MC and ML

It is also very interesting to see people making decisions for themselves and doesn't matter what sect they are from they have their own thoughts.

Anyway one of the great quotes I will never forget

In all likelihood, if one could die without regrets, that could be seen as ascending, couldn’t it?"

This novel didn't disappoint at all even though it was short and world is limited in exploration for a cultivation novel <<less
