It's refreshing to see a FL who's not obsessed with taking revenge and quite chill. Love love the wood block who thought he got heart attack ❤️❤️❤️

i think it was a pretty awesome read I love how calmly the MC handles the situation and I love the ML - if you're looking for a sensible and cute love story with tons of unexpected twist and turns this is it!

the "protagonist" wouldnt have gotten into the situations that she did had she not been overly ambitious also I love the fact that the actual fiance remembered the good times with the MC in the past life thats like the perfect revenge

it's a great novel for those who like fluffy, romances with great main leads and a (surprisingly) tolerable villain.

For someone that has read a LOT of books and novels since I was young, the novel's plot was slightly predictable but not boring. I love how the main leads interacted and love how the ML is sweet yet not psycho, domineering yet so, so COOl!!! I also love the FL's attitude in which you will find agreeable once you start reading.

Overall, I highly recommend this!

Got interested from the first few translated chapters and then went and read the rest of the series by MTL.

The story isn't bad, the love between the protagonists is cute. It's nice that they don't really have many obstacles in marrying once things get off the ground. They're very sweet together. Conflicts are resolved pretty easily due to the ML and FL's political and 'magical' abilities. There's a bit of background story about how ... more>>

the FL reincarnated from a post zombie-apocalypse world in which she had the ability to brew medicinal wines that could cure basically anything she wants.

She didn't really need the whole backstory and it doesn't play much role in the actual story except 'explain' her ability and why she can fight (but basically doesn't for the entire story except in a couple instances).

Regarding the 'antagonists', particularly the original FL and ML. The antagonist's portion of the story is really mostly driven by the original FL, who is 'reborn', like the summary says. She originally

married Prince Jin as a concubine and helped him get the throne but then was pretty much destroyed in the harem and died a painful death.

As such, she seeks to basically kill all of the enemies of her past life and strives to get a better life this time around. The only thing is that she does it no matter the means and who she has to step on, even if they didn't wrong her in her previous life. Because she's greedy for status, power, love, etc. she pretty much self-destructs. She pretty much....... envies other people to death. She envies the FL, ends up hating her and plotting against her, though all of her plots are pretty much steamrolled by the power of the FL and ML.

As for the original ML, he

doesn't really do anything bad other than the original breaking of the engagement at the beginning of the story.

Overall, the story is pretty simple, but enjoyable if you don't think too hard about things. Some subplots kind of get forgotten and it feels like the author was hurrying to finish the story near the end. The protagonist-antagonist interactions sometimes read a bit like if you took the vicious FL from a story with normally braindead antagonists and plopped her into a story where those 'antagonists' actually have a normal IQ (and a peaceful mindset)........ oh wait, that IS the story. lol. Highly recommend if you like this sort of genre with fluffiness and the original FL being easy beat. <<less

I actually LOVED this story. I read some of the reviews too and I gotta wonder what did they read?
Spoiler

FL didn’t abandon her 5th sister, in fact she even found her a good marriage to a general and the story ends with a mention that she has a very loving family. FL never played “submissive” which was a weird comment too. She loved her husband and provided evidence with her words and body. She actively pursued him then let him pursue her through their marriage. It was very equal marriage. She even helped her 2nd family recover their title despite evidence of her uncle hiring bandits to kill her parents bc she learned the secret of her father’s birth. I truly loved the way she dealt with Yan Shuqing and letting the OG ML handle her.

It's a really quick and easy read. Love the open affection between the main couple. MC has a huge golden finger, her wine can heal anything.

I wish MC was more ruthless with Old Jiang madam. Even if Old Jiang Mme saved MC's dad, it was cancelled out when her son plotted mu*der & they swallowed up the dad's wealth.

The main antagonist is a brainless but vicious clown who jumps around. She's genuinely irritating for several reasons but not worth in depth commentary.

I'm glad I read this short novel.

There is no angst between the ML and FL, their romance is so much fated with all the fantasy elements included in the story.

I am glad that even though it is a historical theme setting, the circumstances allow the couple to be free of other people's interference in their relationship.

Thanks for translating this novel.

It's not bad. If anything it's a fairly easy read and a good story to read while munching on popcorn. However if you're in the mood for something of higher quality in this genre then maybe skip this one. It's average in pretty much all aspects.

Almost every female character hates the FL with only a few powerful exceptions? Check.

The OG!FL is described as cunning and wise but constantly gets shown up by the FL? Check.

Little weird events happen that serve no purpose but to fluff up the FL and/or ML?... more>> Check.

It's very by the books for this genre. Which considering it's now one of the older entries in it makes sense. These tropes weren't as worn down back then. Personally I'm enjoying my time with it but it's like eating your favorite brand of candy. You know it has little nutritional value but it's comforting, so you eat it anyways. <<less

I've read this novel several years ago, but didn't remember anything about it. I read it again this week. This is an okay novel. Not the best, but average I guess.

It reminded me a bit of I Became The Stepmother of My Ex-husband at certain points.

Yan Shuqing is the antagonist of this novel and resembles the MC of a lot of revenge novels except in character. In character she is very vicious. YS is reborn. In her first life she married King Jin (the brother of the emperor) as a... more>> concubine. She helped him become emperor after the previous emperor died but was poisoned by one of the other concubines, had a miscarriage and couldn't get children after of that. She was sent to the cold palace and had a miserable life. She was jealous of Jiang Ningbao (MC) who had a happy marriage with Xie Jinglian and a faithful husband.

After rebirth she vowed to get revenge on everyone who harmed her in her previous life. At the start of the novel she has been reborn for about 2 years. She has been in contact with JN's fiancee for 2 years and intends to marry him in this life since he seems to be a good husband and she wants her husband to have only one woman. She has also been building up a force of her own and has approached a lot of people who will become powerful later on by pretending to help them.

She also got her hands on a wine recipe which JN got in her previous life and has been making huge amounts of money by selling wine made with this recipe with King Qin (one of the emperor's brothers and rival of her husband from her previous life). However her character is very vengeful. She tries to harm everyone she dislikes and gets rid of everyone who is in her way. She dislikes Jiang Ningruo from the start. Sadly for her JN disrupts a lot of her plans from the moment they meet.

At the start of the novel Jiang Ningbao wakes up after a dream. She dreams she is living in a novel and finds out what happened in the novel. JN lived in an apocalyptic world previously and was reincarnated in this world. She has been living in the novel world for 16 years now. She has known about her previous life from birth (didn't drink Lady Meng's soup). She has been pretending to be a weak woman all these years. She also looks very weak and fragile. Her parents didn't want her to show her strong side. In the apocalyptic world she was quite weak and her only strength / gift was making medicinal wine. In this life she can be considered quite strong for a woman, but she never really fights with anyone except when she practices with her husband. She opened a shop selling wine and tea when she was young and has been making a lot of money with this shop. Since she was 11 she has donated half of her profit to help soldiers and their families anonymously. Her parents have been missing for 3 years. After that she and her brother have been treated quite poorly by her father's relatives. Her father made a lot of money and her family (grandmother and uncle) took all his properties after he went missing. MC only managed to keep her mother's dowry thanks to her mother's family who live far away.

The antagonist of this novel is the MC of the original novel.

In the first chapter JN's fiancee sends a servant to tell her family he wants to break off their engagement. He saved YS when she fell (deliberately) in the water at a party and wants to marry her. JN replies she wants to marry his adoptive father Xie Xun as compensation.

Xie Xun (according to translation, description calls him Xie Heng) has been invaded by 'evil spirits' since birth and people can't stay near him very long because of that. They get sick when they are near him. XX is known as the God of War of their country and a nephew of the emperor. He has adopted XJ assuming he will never have a wife and children since women can't stay near him. Even his mother has to stay away from him.

Because of that he is very innocent with women and doesn't know much about getting along with JN. His mother thinks of him as a block of wood after his first contact with JN. JN decides to be pro-active at the start because of that.

Spoiler

JN writes XX a letter saying something like her heart beats faster when thinking about him. The same thing happens to him when he thinks of her so he calls a doctor to check them out, thinking they have heart problems. :-).

[collapse]

JN admired a very strong fighter in her previous life who committed su*cide after killing the zombie emperor (he was bitten and didn't want to become a zombie). The stories about XX reminded her of this fighter. That's why she proposes to marry him. When they meet JN shows she has no problem being near XX, so they agree to get married. They get along very well from the start and there are no problems or misunderstandings between them in the novel.

All of this is explained at the start of the novel and in the description, so it's not a spoiler.

I read in one of the reviews that reader questioned why MC didn't stop her parents from disappearing, but MC only found out about living in a novel when her parents had been gone for 3 years when she was 16. And the novel also didn't mention why they disappeared. JN finds out about that later on.

Another reviewer mentioned she disliked how JN dealt with her cousin Mingyao who is a pretty nice person. However I agree with Gabi094 on this. JN never acted against her cousin, she just distanced herself from her because of what the cousin's parents did. Mingyao also showed several times she would side with her parents against JN even knowing what her parents did. Yet another reviewer mentioned they didn't understand why JN and her parents forgave JN's grandmother and had her uncle's title and position reinstated. I do understand that. I oftentimes think Chinese novels take filial piety way too far (though it probably also worked that way in reality), but in this case I can understand it.

Spoiler

JN's grandparents from father's side and his entire family were convicted (innocently) by the previous emperor. Her grandfather divorced her pregnant grandmother to let her escape the exile. The grandmother's sister (Mrs Jiang) agreed to pretend to be pregnant and raise the child she gave birth to as her own, to give the child a better future. The grandmother died while giving birth to JN's father and her father was then adopted by his uncle and aunt (Mr. And Mrs. Jiang) who pretended he was their child. He always assumed they were his real parents.

Mrs. Jiang always treated her adoptive son well. It was only when he got married that she started disliking his wife and children. Part of the reason was that MC and her brother were much better than her real grandchildren.

So she saved JN's father from exile and raised him in a good way even though he was not her real son.
[collapse]

According to the novel JN dreamed of she would fight with YS for a year to keep her fiancee, before losing and ending quite miserable. JN is not interested in her fiancee and proposes to marry his adoptive father when he wants to break off the engagement. The JN of the novel does not seem to resemble the MC, so I guess she was replaced at birth? This never becomes quite clear to me.

I kinda felt sorry for JN's ex-fiancee XJ. He is a pretty decent man. He fell in love with YS and decided to break off his engagement with JN because of that, which would result in ruining JN's reputation. But for the rest he was pretty righteous.

Spoiler

He has a very unhappy marriage with YS and divorces her pretty fast.

YS is quite pro-active during their wedding night, because of her experience in her previous life, resulting in him thinking this is not her first time and distancing himself from her. At that point I kinda felt sorry for YS.

XJ loses his position as first heir of the duke after JN gives birth to children. It was always assumed the duke would never have children.

He then starts dreaming about his happily married life with JN and regrets breaking up with her. He comes to the conclusion that YS can see the future. However JN is already happily married with children at that time. He never acts against JN. He finally marries someone who somewhat resembles JN.

[collapse]

I noticed that in most cases the servants are more seriously punished than their masters who ordered them to do criminal things. I guess it also worked / works this way in reality? A few examples:

Spoiler

-Aunt Zhang decides to poison MC so she can't have children after she visits her home after 3 days of marriage. MC notices this right away and still takes the poison (she knows the antidote, quite s*upid it seems to me, what if she has already become pregnant in these 3 days, will this then affect her pregnancy?, but whatever). She pretends to let everyone at the table eat this poisoned food and then discloses it has been poisoned. Her aunt's servant is executed and her aunt is exiled.

-MC finds out her uncle ordered bandits to kill her parents so he can get his hands on their money. He is jealous of his brother. The bandits are hunted and killed. The uncle loses his title and his official job and that's it.

Not a bad reading it does have some flaws but I love the interaction between FL and ML

I wouldn't say this is a transmigration novel a rebirth yes for antagonist but FL she didn't transmigrate nor did she reborn she just one day woke up and remembered her past life and her current life as a character in the novel. I don't agree with people who feel bad for Jiang Mingyao (cousin) many times when her family wronged FL she would always feel bad or feel guilty feel ashamed... more>> making it seems like she a righteous person but when it comes to FL getting back at them she blamed the FL even though her family were in the wrong she's a hypocrite. <<less

I like realistic drama, and I also like faceslapping novels. If the point of this novel is to faceslap, I can handwave the almost cartoonist exaggerations of character behaviours -- after all, it's part of the fun. But if the goal is to faceslap, why trammel the MC

with a realistic dose of successful blackmail from the villain character right at the end?

I hope we can had story about her withe washing period (it such a shame..) Idk if it just my feeling.. But MC background just.. This story certainly wasn't the best but if you didn't have high expectation (like me) from the beginning, maybe you could enjoy it. The story mostly about orgFL who got rebirthed and tried to change her destiny by antagonizing MC who had a greaf life that she envied in the previous life. Of course orgFL didn't success because... guess what... MC was a reincarnator from apocalypse era. So, from the beginning until the end, we would see orgFL tried to scheme against MC but got face slapped instead over and... more>> over again.

Well, don't expect any fancy scheme. In fact, I sometimes thought that both MC and orgFL's schemes were a bit dumb... well, especially orgFL who was almost like a jumping clown in front of the masses everytime she failed to bring down MC.

As for the romance, it was almost like love at the first sight. MC and ML hit it off almost immediately and were very loving from the beginning till the end. OrgML and 2ndorgML were a bit pitiful though but who asked them to fall for orgFL? <<less

This story has fairly okay potential (so long as you can turn your brain off for some of the more eye rollingly ridiculous parts) but the translation is rough to get through. Grammar, clearly, does not matter and I like have to piece together what I’m reading with my own knowledge of grammar and sentence structure rules.

ofc this is my own personal opinion. If you can stomach that then the story isn’t too bad.

its an alright read. Pretty interesting but events are not resolved nicely... some decisions/behaviours are not aligned with FL character? The villain is unidimensional. Overall it doesn’t have a lot of depth but is pretty nice to pass time.

The translation is hard to understand sometimes tbh, and the team seems like to discontinue this work.

The novel is fine, a bit average with a few plot holes. The characteristics of ML are inconsistent. At first, he was a blockhead. After the romance novel incident, he suddenly became a thoughtful husband.

Besides the OP main leads, the others all have little to none IQ. Even the antagonist is not that of a threat, she just appears here and there and then does some dumb revenge. The biggest villains are the ones... more>> at the main house, not the rebirth girl. <<less

the story is readable.

  • If you expect a great novel, you don't have it. there are cute and funny moments.
  • If you expect political drama there isn't, the fight is totally led by the OFL which is very disappointing. it doesn't have any deep or painful drama.
  • If you want to read just because of the couple, that's fine.
  • romance is fine
    • speaking of FL and ML, they are a harmonious and nice couple to follow. his emotional development is the part I laughed the most and it warmed my heart. FL's relationship with her brother is pretty cool.
  • the plot is..
    • the plot doesn't have much of a purpose so from the beginning to the end it's, it's more to say that this novel presents only a part of a life than a great story. If I were to say what it is about, it is: the story of how the protagonist defends her own happiness.
    • but there are some things that are a very negative point, such as the origin of the protagonist. unnecessary, but it didn't make any difference either.
    • some might think that the MC family having so much favoritism is a downside and something hard to accept. in real life this happens too so it's not extreme. yes her family (not her parents) want to use her as a stepping stone and cash cow. but that's not so impossible in real life...
  • characters
    • OFL is too irrational, envious without limits, it thinks it's superior and better than everyone else. There are some things about her that are very ridiculous, for example, she says she has an obsession with OML, but in the first difficulty of their relationship she gives up.
      • the truth is that she feels uncomfortable that others can be happy where she failed. this is the origin of her jealousy towards our protagonist Jian Ningbao. She saw her being happy and wanted her fiance. but she doesn't even know how to be happy by herself.
        • one of the protagonist's phrases to her brother is that she does not understand the OFL, she had everything but was not satisfied.
  • A comment about FL and the fifth sister. Honestly, I don't think FL is to blame or owe anything to the fifth sister. it's normal to have expectations of people and when they are not met, they walk away. FL doesn't need to be perfect it just needs to be authentic to itself and have common sense. what she totally is.

Typical Mary Sue novel. Typical Mary Sue novel. FL is transmigrated into a novel after living in a Zombie Apocalypse and regains her memories of said novel just before her engagement to Heir Xie was to be annulled. Now knowing the OG!FL's schemes and holding several golden fingers (medicinal wine, great strength, beauty), she begins to step on both her ex-fiancé and his new fiancé by proposing an engagement with his father, Duke Ding.

It's not the worst, but the inconsistencies and the messy writing does leave a bit... more>> of a bad taste. I thought it was interesting at first, as most other readers have claimed, the initial premise is interesting. But in the end, the author disappoints when it comes to balancing the conflicts. I think it's okay if you're looking for an amusing, casual read, it was fun enough in the beginning, but yeh, keep in mind that this is very much a Mary Sue novel — don't expect it to be high quality in the end. <<less

So far, so good ❤️ not historically accurate, but since I don't even know what is the real, accurate conditions back then, I don't mind. This is fiction after all, & author's abilities to pick-choose-combine 'reality' & 'fiction' to make a world believable is the most important thing.

It has got some loopholes, but I also don't read this to make a scientific journal, so I don't mind (so far).

However, I'm so determined to write a review because the translator said: their job is to translate what the author wrote, thus... more>> they can't really explain the loopholes. This is so refreshing & so true. Translators have got no 'responsibility' to explain, beyond what was written.

I love the translator ❤️ go far, oz fortuna ❤️ as for why I don't write this on their website--because I'm an old lady who is so bad at navigating webs.

ADDED: currently on ch 61, raw --> mtl is not as bad as I thought. For those who can read raw, I recommend it. Really refreshing, I support this author ❤️ <<less
