Watch as MC grows to an unparalleled level. Starting from nothing, to become some one people looked up to.

MC is dominating. Romance is not that good. But this story is about cultivation.

Struggle is not much unless MC is training. Good temperament. Ruthless and respectful. Kinda typical hero cliche, but nonetheless an interesting read.

... more>> Never bored to read, maybe because how MC is portrayed sometimes in the eye of bystanders. But sometimes getting too old to see time and time again the same reaction.

OVERALL: Good read, Helps me release some of my inner anger by channeling it through MC's ruthlessness against his enemies. <<less

A poor MC stumbles into a completely ridiculous cheat. It's standard fare, but the cheat is basically limitless knowledge from a higher tier of existence, so it's pretty s*upid. What follows is a gaggle of idiots that like to get offended over s*upid shit, aka our parade of 'villains', who then obviously get humiliated and swept away by our MC. Also, there's of course always a stream of comments from nameless onlookers that fawn over the MC and his newfound prowess. Cuz why wouldn't there. It was a good novel for most of the time, but sometimes arcs stalled because of mini-arcs. Several characters are introduced at beginning of arcs, but completely forgotten after the completion of the arc. So, whenever new characters were introduced, allies or enemies, I started to skim throught their dialogue, because they will become irrelevant after the arc finishes. The main character ends up with a non-human companion later in the story, but I forget about the companion because the author rarely mentions him until plot armor. Simply too slow. Feels very dragged out. Wastes too much chapters of trivial things such as every day life, choosing weapons or martial skills etc. And the author's logic is ' since the MC is hardworking let's give him more shitty situations to handle, that way he can work hard more. As far as I have read it's a very below average novel.

Oh and if by any miracle the author wakes up from his masochistic tendencies and improves the novel please disregard this comment.

I rate it slightly higher than 4 stars. The story is better than majority of the xianxia, and there were a lot of times when I was looking for the next chapter. The author can rise the anticipation I will give him that.

The MC is a genius cultivator that has very thick plot armor and gets many lucky encounters. Well it's a xianxia so you can expect it. I find this novel worse than True Martial World because in latter there are more character development for side characters such as... more>> his sister. In this one side characters seem a little flat.

Overall I recommend it if you already read other major titles. <<less

I'm having mixed feelings for this novel. Some parts are really good and yet some things are so ridiculous that it makes you cringe.

Lin Ming possesses a Grade Three Martial Talent, meaning that his learning speed and cultivation speed would be less than the average cultivator (and apparently ones martial talent can't change even if other things like your soul talent can). And yes - he absorbes soul fragments from the magic cube, however that only gives him the memories of elders from a greater realm. Yet he can create his own martial arts (thunder-fire explosion) and understand the Vermilion Bird Forbidden Divine Chronicle in less than a half an hour.

Anyway if you don't mind the details at all - it's a pretty good story (not half as good as True Martial World though). Give it a try

I like it so far. Only issue I have with this is the development is too slow it spent almost 50 chapters in a tournament =_= in the end you'd know the MCs going to win still the last couple of fights was interesting. He gain insights in his marial way. Lastly I felt like there's a gap in between one of the arcs. The transition wasn't written well

Its my favorite. Addicting. MC making good strategy in building strength, He isn't overly arrogant while pretending like he isn't which tends to be the norm in these types of novel.

The story more interesting because trial, competition, death match, encounter, plot.

Some enemies are really annoying but overall I like it. Translation is fast. Cultivation is fast. Like they said Lin Ming is a slightly purer yi yun

I feel the start of it makes much more sense than TMW but I still feel that TMW overall is a lot better

What I like the most is because the story progress smoothly, not repeating same thing over and over again. And lastly, this story not all about killing enemy.

But the story more about explanation. Interaction between character is just to fill the gap. Not so exciting. Plot seem straightforward.

For those who gave this story 5 stars, I have a genuine question: is it your 1st time diving into wuxia, xianxia, or c novels in general?

As someone who enjoys c novels, admittedly mainly josei, romance, historical, wuxia & xianxia novels, I find this novel very shallow.

The MC is so ordinary it almost screams J novels (I'm an ordinary office worker) kind of thing. Which means, tiring & cliche.

The fruitful encounters MC have is actually not well elaborated. It could have been fun if it was elaborated every now &... more>> then! But no: We just have to believe that it's ultimate, and hence MC is ultimate.

The harem feels is strong from the start, again, adding the vibe of sm*tty novels without plot that targets (sorry) weebs.

Actually when the MC is being insulted as someone who eats soft rice, I laughingly agree! Who dont agree? His soon to be harem members, I believe! Aka the outstanding daughters of heaven around him, that gave him benefit of the doubt, and actually gave him soft rice lol.

I stopped at 477 because this is too boring. Yes yes he'll be great. I also know he'll face slap anyone who doubted him & he'll be kind to those who are kind to him.

This is basically OP mary sue novel, but the gary stu version. Hard face slap, brainless villains, multiple love interests, fruitful encounters every now & then, awesome, awesome.

If this is your 1st time into c cultivation novels, welcome! If you enjoy it, hooray! If you yearn for something better: no worries, there are plenty! <<less

I’m actually kinda sad. I usually rely on novel updates Because they usually have pretty accurate ratings but for this one, they have seriously screwed up. There are parts to this novel that aren’t too bad like the cultivation system and law comprehension levels. The idea of a magic cube could have also worked.

Unfortunately there is just no plot other than the MC running into idiots so he can face slap them. You would think that since cultivation requires comprehension, people would be mature enough to think through things, but... more>> guess what? They don’t. Every ‘Nemesis’ he faces is like this. None of them are fighting him for any good reason other than their immature impulsivity. But that’s not all. You would think that after a while, people would start to recognize that the MC can handle all of the situations that are thrown his way. That is in fact, not the case. Every time the MC faces someone new, his friends are like “MC is so amazing, but unfortunately he didn’t have enough time to gain the strength, yet, to fight them” Well, as you can expect, he can in fact fight them. And he wins every time.

I was hoping that once the MC ascended from the lower realms, it would finally be over and the plot would progress. Well guess what? Yes, you guessed right. The plot didn’t progress and now we are back to idiotic enemies picking fights every which way and I can’t take it anymore. <<less

I think this is a great novel, especially if you're looking for decent harem building along with cultivation. However I'm not a huge fan of the ending and didn't bother to finish the last few hundred chapters because of that...

Every once in a while reading newer chapters I was amazed that I could still remember his journey so clearly, and it was a very enjoyable journey to read. I would suggest stop reading after he marries the phoenix hybrid girl, who is literally half phoenix. After that it kind of... more>> drops in quality for me...

Only thing I wasn't a huge fan of is as he gets stronger, he quickly leaves behind those that journeyed with him. He has to because of the big bad evil that's coming, however I wish he gave cultivation secrets or something to more of his lovers/followers. He does give them gifts to help their cultivation, but none of them really keep up and it's a shame to lose so many great characters because of that. Feels like every 400-500 or so chapters it's a 'wipe the slate clean' of acquaintances and get new ones, which after around chapter 1800 I was fed up with...

I see the reviews saying 'all his enemies just want to r*** the girls around him', yes that's somewhat true, but it's not like this comes out of nowhere. It feels very in place with the universe created. There are different 'martial roads', and the quickest one tends to be robbing others cultivation, usually stealing their 'primordial yin' or dual cultivation. Also it fits with the 'going against martial hearts' theory, where if any martial artist goes against their 'values'/martial road, then basically their cultivation decreases (mental obstacle). So those like our MC that choose virtuous path, have to make virtuous choices or else they'll lose their identity. Same with all the 'big bads' like the cult that specializes in yin yang dual cultivation, if they for some reason see a woman they really want and don't try to go for it, and suppress their desire, it goes against their martial heart, because that's the road of cultivation/mindset they chose. So it ends up making more sense than people give credit, it feels like their is a valid reason why so many r***y pe*verts are so powerful, and why they go after new girls relentlessly. It feels like 1/2 humans choose virtuous path, other 1/2 choose the plundering/stealing from others path. And our MC gets along with most virtuous path people obviously, so quite a few of his enemies are these more powerful characters that see his 'girl' and decide 'she's mine', or just some girl he's friends with or just met. Reading the other negative reviews you get an idea that every villain is just a pe*vert, but author does good job of making it seem realistic and valid, not just some contrived plot device or something. <<less

This was my first introduction to the world of xianxia light novels and I had a pretty good experience.

The author has lots of imagery in his writing and the fights were really good in the beginning. It explored the MCs and the opponent's every thought and there were many times when I just couldn't put down the book. However, if you are coming from another martial arts novel and expect MC to quickly reach the peak of martial arts, you will be disappointed. The first half of the novel mainly... more>> focused on the mortal realm and second half is focused on the divine realm (ascending to the heavens).

Fights do get repetitive sometimes since MC has plot armor and he really doesn't have any setbacks along with Luck Rank EX and unrivaled perception. I can count the amount of setbacks MC has in the entire novel with one hand. So you are pretty much going in knowing he is usually gonna get his way/power up in a stepwise fashion.

Here are my major criticisms of the novel:

Initially, I would rate this as a 4 but up after chapter 2228, it seems like the author just couldn't be bothered with finishing the story in a complete manner. Towards the end, MC has made countless breakthroughs without any bottlenecks or need to even get heavenly pills/items to help. In contrast to before, it could take 30 chapters of intense battle and planning for MC to even power through a small boundary. For people that want to refute this: how did MC open the first dao palace and then start opening the subsequent palaces like he is popping candy. He even opened two of them by accident in the end.

As for the major heroines of the novel, the author writes them in a way that doesn't want them to grow with the MC (except xian'er and sheng mei). It is pretty pathetic since MC committed to marrying his first 2 wives (both of which actually transcended to divine realm on their own) but is not even in the war against the saints, even after 10, 000 years. It's pretty sad because MC's first wife is the one that actually gave him a chance to step beyond seven profound house but afterwards, the author treats her as a baggage that doesn't have potential. Mu Qianyu and Qin Xingxuan both reach divine lord cultivation by the time MC becomes a half step holy lord (after asura road) but they were tossed aside for the rest of the story. Pretty much used as a way to squeeze into a few later chapters where they want to have kids with MC. And although their kids have MC's bloodline, the only thing they did in the entire latter half of the book was to pick some mushrooms. Really pathetic on the story writing there.

As for why I quoted chapter 2228 from earlier... that was the last "descriptive fight" of the novel. It was MC's first fight with the soul emperor. Afterwards, his family and friends had to face against demon generals + legions. Each demon general should have the strength equivalent to the soul emperor that MC struggled to fight. Well guess what? MC killed them all in one paragraph in the end because the author can't be bother to even think of anything else. The last fight with demon god lasted about one chapter. That is pathetic.

Lastly, after the fight, we have one of the worst epilogues ever written. Not only did it leave many characters stories untold but the ending was told by 2 random people in a 3rd person point of view.

I am proud to say I actually gave this novel a chance and I read it cover to cover. I do have a good time even though it was at times, repetitive. Give this a shot if you like cultivation novels.

One last pointer: if anyone thinks sheng mei is a b**ch and she is not worthy of being MC's wife, they clearly did not understand the meaning behind her actions and probably just didn't read. <<less

I quite liked it at first, nothing too amazing but entertaining with few major annoyances (basic plot armor MC stuff mostly). The MC using a sparring spear as his weapon is pretty dumb though, I always cringe when his spear "bending like a half moon" is said to be good in order to prevent hand shock...

Despite still being good even after a thousand chapters, the constant repetition starts to grate a bit (especially with audience underestimating then praising MC, feels like that adds up to literally over 100 chapters of... more>> padding by itself). This is also where the one of the biggest problems starts to appear: author forgetfulness. A bunch of abilities, paths, and items are introduced and then forgotten, and it gets worse over time to the point of it being one of the main reasons I'm dropping this now. Some of the things that the author forgets (or ignores to force plot) would completely change a lot of the story, so as I read I'm just constantly thinking "why tf did nobody use that super useful ability which was introduced as a standard thing everyone can do???" It's not even just one major thing, there are multiple that would negate the major threat. Here are just two of them as examples:

There's a super secure peace contract which would severely harm anyone who breaks it, which is set to last 500 years. It gets broken within 200 years and no consequences? Not even a mention of anyone using some new thing to remove it. Then there's the whole inner world concept... it's introduced that one cultivation level is to create a world and then they can have mortals live there and get faith power from them (faith is another thing that has only been mentioned once since, and in a completely different context). There have been many hundreds of chapters since then, but the inner world has only really been mentioned (aside from it existing and being expanded in cultivation) like twice. Once soon after it's introduced, and the other time the MC is just carrying somebody around in it. Plenty of other times when it would be extremely useful, but nope.

The romance part varies a lot in quality. Some parts are good (especially best girl, her arc starts around c1450), but he only spends any decent amount of time with best girl (and maybe one other, depending on how you count it). That "decent amount of time" is still insignificant overall though. He tends to marry them, then give them some months at most before he basically forgets that they exist for periods of time exponentially longer than he spent with them. It gets really bad past c1900, to the point it's probably the biggest reason I'm dropping:

the MC goes off obviously expecting to die (they think he's dead), and then once he doesn't... he spends literally thousands of years making sure he has a good foundation and cultivating peacefully. He doesn't even consider trying to go to them, or at least let them know he's alive. He even suppresses breakthroughs to maximize his foundation. Like seriously, this guy is screwing around for over 20x longer than the longest period of time he even knew one of his wives (and over 100x the others) while they are risking their lives and even probably have enemies after them. And that's with leaving early! He plans to spend 10k years before leaving! He was less than 200 before that!!! This genre almost always has problems with scale and time, but this is ridiculous.

Overall I'd recommend giving it a read if you're craving a xianxia, you'll get what you expect. For most of it I'd say it's at least a 4, with some parts being a 5. I binged all the way to c1979, and if not for the romance spoiler I'd probably continue (only probably because the author forgetfulness is also really annoying the last quarter of the novel). The romance spoiler wouldn't bother me nearly as much if not for best girl (don't really care about the others tbh), so that can somewhat count as a plus because the author made me care? <<less

The story is okay and was going fine, but the writing is literally making me hurl. Everything moves at such a slow pace, and explanations are made in detail when they're unnecessary af.. Could not progress cuz it got so boring

One of the classics. Lin Ming's story is quite fun although there are several arcs in the story that aren't quite as exciting. An overall cohesive plot with good fights, good enemies, and a sensible cultivation system.

I really liked this novel when I read it and when I reread it.

obviously theres big problems with plotarmor/convenience but the main character is basicly a stoic for whom everything turns out ok.

A big part of the plus is that the character introduction is very very good you can relate to the initial situation and every person feels like a real person. Throwbacks also help to reinforce this.

... more>> The women however are quite one dimensional because clearly the author is a man and therefore cannot fully understand their viewpoint.

I have not read a novel that has made it to the "higher realm" stage that retained their original character or skill.

this does retain a level of this not only due to the references to this but also the perspective of the higher lvl people and the MC's understanding of this.

When all is said and done I really like this novel I could identify with the actions and feelings of the main character in vast numbers of situations and I think resonance is the most important in this kind of novel. <<less

The only thing about this novel that I found interesting is cultivation. I enjoyed reading how the MC broke through limits. Other than that everything is total bs.

all the characters (including the mc) one dimensional. None of them has any 'depth'. They are either 'good' or 'bad'. The plot armor of the MC is so strong that the author even gave it a name, calling it 'destiny'. The author keeps introducing new characters to make up the word count. One second a new character appears like they are an important... more>> part of the story just to disappear after a few chapters never to be mentioned again. Even the 'love interests' of the MC are like that. Fights are extremely repetitive. They all go down the same way. The story is irrelevant to the author. All he has cared about is making the MC look badass.

recommended if you have way too much time at hand to waste. <<less

It's not bad, as I haven't dropped it to halfway and even has interesting and unique parts (maybe, not reading lots of chinese novels) but a few things are extremely annoying :

1. Because of martial heart, you have to absolutely follow your own desire and you shouldn't experience failure or compromise either or else you're f*cked : dude, humans don't work that way. Are you cultivating immortals or animals that only follow their instinct? If you want to exclude character development think of other excuses.

2. Cultivators don't put much importance... more>> in love and family : romance excluded 👍

3. There is destiny. Everything you do, you must have enough destiny for it or you WILL fail! If you kill someone with high destiny, it apparently transfers to you. If you wanna succeed in the cultivation world you must kill countless geniuses, absorb their destiny and somehow don't leave any unsolved karma in the process : WTF!? The major headache! The main problem is that, there wasn't such things at beginning, and if destiny is that important, I wonder why nobody has made a destiny meter yet.

I'm not going to say more, but I'm still frustrated hmph!

In the end it's a chinese novel and you should start reading, expecting a lot of s*upid stuff, filler and things you would wonder if chinese people themselves will find cool.
