Master Said I Should Cultivate the Path of Emotionlessness

I, a tentacled monster, am currently disguised as a human, deeply in love with my master—though it’s entirely one-sided.

Everyone who’s in love with their master knows the classic tale of tragic love between master and disciple: heart-wrenching betrayal, leaps from the Immortal Execution Platform, fatal stabbings to the heart, today’s fall into demonhood, tomorrow’s kneeling on the long staircase. Each one has a beautifully bleak ending.

But my master is different. He doesn’t put me through that kind of tragic romance. He kisses me, praises me, and has never let me go hungry. He even looks at me with a smile and calls me softly, “Zhi Zhi.”

He is the kindest human to me.

I like him.

For a monster, expressing affection is simple: liking someone means staying close, from wrapping them in tent**les to keeping our bodies close.

Using the spell my master taught me, I locked him in place and tried to stay close to him, hoping he’d start liking me back. But my master no longer kissed me. His eyes grew misty as if he might cry.

My master doesn’t seem to like me.

That’s okay. I extended more tent**les, clinging harder, day and night, diligently. Surely, he’ll be moved one day.

After I locked up my master, the sect grew suspicious. They broke into the dark room and pierced my monstrous body with a thousand swords. In my final moments, my master didn’t look at me. I suppose he really never loved me.

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself back at the moment I’d first joined the sect.

My master looked at me, with a slightly strange expression, then nodded at me like in my previous life and said,

“This one, then.”

But he added a new line:

“He will cultivate the Path of Emotionlessness with me.”

Me: …?

My countless tent**les: …QAQ?

Aren’t humans supposed to be together if they’re partners…

Master telling me to cultivate the Path of Emotionlessness = Master not letting me be his partner = Master doesn’t love me at all.

So I really am on the tragic romance route. I’ll never love Master again, QAQ.

Spoiler

Yun Zhi’s continued eating clearly enraged the Faceless Buddha.

Eyeballs rolled out one by one from the sockets on the Buddha statue’s body, attacking Yun Zhi. Along the way, several of them accidentally hit new disciples who were kneeling on the ground.

One of them let out a sharp, tragic scream as the eyeballs fused into his body, emerging from the back of his neck, blinking as they surveyed the surroundings.

In just a moment, the person parasitized by the eyeballs shriveled up rapidly and then inflated like a balloon.

With a faint popping sound, a small hole burst open on the person’s forehead.

Immediately, countless insects crawled out from the hole in his forehead. The unfortunate individual, like a host drained by a parasitic beast, did not shed a drop of blood, leaving behind only a thin, lifeless shell.

Yun Zhi lowered his head and took another bite of rice.
