To survive in the world he transmigrated into, Model Citizen Gu Xizhou became a demonic cultivator.

But then… but then he transmigrated back.

The returned Gu Xizhou was furious. The student that had sacrificed his body to reincarnate him had used a demonic array meant for summoning evil spirits. He, Gu Xizhou, had been a law-abiding citizen who upheld the core socialist values prior to transmigration, the very picture of a model citizen. So how had he become a heinous malicious spirit since his return from transmigration?!

I almost dropped it near the start, but it got better later. Unlike most unlimited flow novels, the real world has its own episodic plots. The first one was kinda boring, so I thought the rest would be meh.... but I kept reading anyways.

The characters in it are interesting enough. I liked the MC, ML, and the side characters. The characters and the interesting worldbuilding carried the novel. The novel is quite different from the summary (almost misleadingly lmao), but you find out why the MC being a demonic cultivator... more>> is emphasized much later on. I also like how the mystery behind the MC and ML is an overarching plot that's wrapped up at the end.

The MC isn't s*upid (he is the brawns), and he's pretty strong-willed. The ML isn't an a**hole, and he's OP due to his smarts (he's the brains of the pair). The author did a good job writing an OP pair. They don't feel like Gary Stus.

The mysteries behind the MC and ML's past are revealed at the end. It was a bit confusing reading the novel near the end (addressing the mysteries behind their pasts), but the explanation helped. I think the ending was pretty decent.

I had a great time reading the novel after the first few arcs. It's not mindblowingly awesome (has some gaps/leaps of logic/confusing moments), but it's a fairly enjoyable unlimited flow novel. <<less

I liked the story, even though the ending was rushed. Tbh the ending felt a lot like it was written in a different state of mind compared to the other parts of the story. The mysteries were well fleshed out and the world were very interesting. The MC, even if he was powerful, didn't just lay down and win. The ML was very powerful for obvious reasons but that doesn't mean that the tension was broken. The suspense was on point. I loved the mystery solving, both in the real... more>> world and the mission world.

Spoiler

Although the ending seems rushed and could've been done better, there has been foreshadowing about it everywhere, right from the beginning. It's not that the author didn't plan it. It's just that they either got bored of the story or they couldn't find a better way to end this. As a result, the pacing suffered a bit. However, I absolutely love the implication that the MC was the start and end of it all. If he hadn't died and his thigh bone hadn't been turned into a dice which eventually gained sentience and became our ml, then there would be no mission worlds. If the MC hadn't been resurrected and fallen in love with the ml, then the world would've turned into purgatory.

Some people might call this self-cest, considering that the ML is apparently a spirit who was created from the die made of the thigh bone of the MC, but the ML isn't only that. The ML is an amalgamation of everything supernatural in the world. As a result, even if his origin is from a bone die, he exists in the past, present and future. This is also the reason the mission world exists far before the MC himself had even been born.

Anyway, even if ML was influenced by the MC (and had a face very similar to him), they are not the same person... Not self-cest imo

[collapse]

Translation was good enough, but with how many hands it went through, the naming kinda suffered. I don't mind it, it's a small issue.

I'm giving this 5 stars because most of it was enjoyable and I did not see the final plot twist coming. It was the kind of plot twist that you would think "why did I not see this coming? There were so many signs!"and honestly, those are my favourite kind of twists. The entire story was pretty interesting. The side characters were lovable. I absolutely loved Gu Jiji and Fang Zhi. They are my babies and I'm so glad they got their happiness in the end.

All in all, give it a try if you want something entertaining and love plot twists (or solving mysteries). Honestly, I think the clues given in the story are enough to at least solve the minor cases if you're an enthusiast. <<less

What an amazing story! Some people say the ending is rushed, and I do wish the author had written a couple more extras, but I actually loved the ending. It was probably the one place that the main characters were so sugary sweet and unrestrained together, so I had to enjoy it while it lasted! And I love a good twist and tie together. Especially with the help of the translated comment, everything ends up very logical and makes sense.

I originally thought the twist would be more heart rendering (someone... more>> mentioned self-cest and I have to say, I was expecting something along that line, or evil organ boss takes over one of his victims), but the real twist is much sweeter.

There are definitely holes and unexplained threads, but overall, I loved what the author eventually came up with.

I also love the equality of the two characters. They're both pretty boss and the worlds they go through are immensely interesting. It's so cool how the author manages to create arcs that show how nuanced a situation can be. Every time justice is served in the supernatural world, it's so satisfying. The real life justice in the police station is almost more heart-rendering. You see how the system provides a series of laws that maintain order, the criminal isn't always wrong and the victim isn't always pitiful. But that's sort of one of the themes of this story. The law might not be fair, it might incriminate people who have done things that are legally wrong but morally right, but the alternative is chaos. You might pray to God that real justice be served, but maybe God is restricted to only allow what is possible through people's actions through their own free will. <<less

I was about to give this novel a perfect score but then the 2 last arc was actually kinda rushed and its make it confusing to read.

And Im kinda disappointed with the ending, its not like I imagine it'd be.

Interested bc the title bring up about 'Demonic Cultivator' but I read and read untill the end and still dont get anything related to it. ... more>>
Spoiler

well MC used his power as demonic cultivator in mission world tho. Its only revealed in the end that apparently MC reincarnated and since in 2021 the world already so chaotic, human and ghost was coexisting at that time so his reincarnated self ended up becoming a Demonic Cultivator in the later later future. (If I understand it correcly)

[collapse]

I feel kinda cheated here,
Spoiler

Im not a fan of selfcest but its actually kinda selfcested ?

[collapse]

Tbh the romance here kinda abrupt ?
Spoiler

Like they act like they were enemy everytime they meet (especially ML) and then one day ML suddenly fall in love with MC. MC kinda guessed it and then also fall in love.

[collapse]
As someone who dont believe in love I was wondering do human irl really fall in love that easily ? 🤔

Well I'd give it 4.5, since its my first time able to finished reading unlimited flow kinda novel until the very end (Mean this is interesting enough to keep me going). The premise is interesting, but towards the end its kinda disappointing. <<less

This story is hilarious, and as a scaredy-cat myself, the horror scenes aren't too much for me to handle. I love MC, he's just funny, shameless, and badass at times.

Rating: 3.5 stars

I binge-read this, and it was good. So why the 3.5 stars? The concept was really interesting, but it got a little complex toward the end. The ending felt really rushed and I still had a lot, a lot of unanswered questions about the instances and the ML's participation and part in it. Once I discovered the ML's true identity, it opened up a lot of plot holes for me.

More than anything, I must admit that I read BL novels more for the romance than the plot, and... more>> the romance wasn't very believable. In the first half of the novel, there was barely any romantic attraction, aside from the MC noticing how handsome, smart, and altogether perfect the ML was. It was more like reading a very straight bromance that kind-of wasn't a bromance and more like the MC using the ML for his IQ. But then, all of a sudden, due to one action, they suddenly liked each other within 10 chapters.

Each arc was focused on MC solving crimes and then MC and ML going into the instance. During the part where the MC was solving crimes, it was like the ML was background paper, relegated to being the MC's driver from time to time. If the ML didn't take initiative to find MC, I really believe that MC wouldn't even bother much about the ML. This holds true even when they decided to be together. In fact, the MC had much more chemistry and showed more concern about the ghost in his apartment. I'm not expecting that they be all over each other or to have no lives aside from each other. But I couldn't help but compare this to the novels Kaleidoscope of Death and Paintings of Terror, where the authors did a much better job fostering the leads relationship despite the tense, life or death circumstances. And because of this, I also wasn't completely sold on their romance and thus, I wasn't sold on the ending. If the author would have put a bit more effort into fostering their romance, I would have given this novel a higher score. But alas, to me, the CP felt a bit fake and tackled on. <<less

Gotta love these horror/comedy/supernatural combos

Okay I'm not super far into the story yet but so far the ride has been amazing. For one, this story covers alot of the plotholes in normal transmigration stories which I'm very satisfied about. The MC doesn't transmigrate to the world for no reason... though the true cause has yet to be revealed it isnt a random coincidence.

Spoiler

plus the original body still exisits and their interactions are super cute ;)))

[collapse]

As for the instances themselves, theyre well written. Each of them doesn't drag on for too long, and doesn't contain unnecessary long explanations for simple puzzles either. Despite that, they have enough clues for us to figure out what is going on by ourselves. Also the players in each room are a bit more realistic: there isn't the constant annoying a) pig headed teammates drama or b) everyone is a minion to the MC and ML and constantly praises them and how they want to hug their thigh etc etc (Thank GOD). Also I love the fact that the mysteries and cases also continue in real life too,

MC and ML so far are really funny and capable. MC is so cool istg. He doesn't show his powers too often so in the few times he does use it, its awesome to read. Doesn't mean he's dead weight when his powers aren't in use though, as he's relatively rational and smart. ML is smart and sassy. I really like the dynamic of their relationship. They didn't automatically become friends (even now... maybe more of a close acquaintance vibe?) and even in real life they dont contact much. In fact, the ML is highly suspicious of the MC (for good reason lol) and isn't the type to blindly trust him or randomly fall in love and try to protect him. Much more realistic than those spontaneous romantic relationships which form after spending a day with each other. <<less

Very interesting! I'm a fan of these horror arc stories, so I'm probably biased in that regards. The arcs in this story are all well thought and intriguing, some brain activity is involved but not at an impossible level. The MC's "day job" is a criminal police captain, so there's occasionally big cases they solve. Those are quite interesting as well.

MC is OP when it comes to his background, but he does have limitations as well and there's not that many incidents where he does feats impossible for others. Even... more>> when he does show off his power, again he's restricted, so it's not too bad for now.

We don't get much insights about ML yet, but his character is pretty interesting. It's the cold indifferent OP guy, yet he'll occasionally break out of that mold in funny ways. The side characters are pretty funny as well, I maintain that the OG body is the second ML hahaha.

Anyway, can't wait to see more of the mystery unravel!

Translation is great, thanks for the team's hard work! <<less

Very good novel. With the same vines as they say I encountered a ghost and evil spirits lines up to confess to me. It is funny with interesting plot. The first arc to me didnt seem all that unique but its definetly worth reading. The ML is quite shameless not oppressive. He is intelligent op. But still not too op, just a big thigh. Overall its quite good

And the translations are awesome.

This is a great read so far. The MC was an upstanding citizen in modern day world when he was transmigrated into a wuxia world where he became a demonic sect leader. Then, a hundred years later, he was brought back to his world but it wasn't his world, it was a spirit world. The MC didn't get any memories of the body he was using. The ML is really smart but ge thinks that the MC is either crazy or a ghost. It's a really cute story but it... more>> focuses on the plot too. It's not all fluff. <<less

4.5/5

Mystery, detective, supernatural, slow-paced, comedic, good read.

The novel is a combination of an instance game and a detective story, the author would write one after the other. Interactions with the gong are usually in the instance. (So far) Romance is slow and has not begun yet even at ch 77, although, there are hints here and there that the gong is interested in the shou.

Spoiler

So far, MC's role as a transmigrated demonic cultivator is really underplayed and serves little purpose other than to give an excuse of him being able to beat ghosts or have fundamental knowledge about ghosts.

Objectively, this wouldn't be a 5 star novel, but I enjoyed reading it despite its flaws so I'm giving it 5!!

I started reading this because I wanted to read about some ghosts or demons getting beat up. I'd watched a lot of horror movies so I was getting frustrated by the one-sidedness of it all, so I wanted to see a human beating up some ghosties instead. And I got exactly what I wanted!!

The romance was good. There was a slow build up, and it wasn't just a "shou inadvertently... more>> looks enticing one moment and the gong lowkey just gets obsessed" kind of deal. There's a lot of interesting and funny interactions before they get together.

The different mission worlds are kind of interesting, but each mission world is only a few chapters each. It feels a little short, but maybe that's just me. There are also police investigations in the real world, which balances it out.

Throughout the novel, there are hints dropped about the truth of MC's situation, so the ultimate reveal doesn't come out of the blue, entirely. It makes you think and wonder what's going on, but the last mission world certainly had a LOT of info dumping, which makes it hard to process all the information. I only started understanding what was going on when I read the footnotes, but even then I'm still unsure hahahaha. All I can say is that the title is misleading, but it certainly draws your attention!

Anyways, fun read. Loved seeing ghosts getting beat up, liked the progression of their relationship, appreciated the hints of deeper plot sprinkled in throughout the story, etc etc <<less

I was pleasantly surprised in the beginning, and then it fell off so hard the longer the story progressed.

Things I liked:

    • the author drew on cases that they heard about in their real life, and addressed difficult topics with those crimes because they felt some part of it was unjust or perhaps as a word of caution
    • the character development and relationship built between the characters were strong *i will address this point again in the dislikes list*
    • The way that Gu Xizhou was like haha I'm human I swear :D every time he bullies the ghosts is funny
Things I disliked:

    • After awhile, each arc seem to get shorter and shorter. At first, I was confused as to why even bring up the cases in real life at all. After reading to the end, I can understand that SOME of the cases are connected to the development of the MC but others were definitely unnecessary, especially those that were solved in one or two chapters.
    • Many in the comments remarked that the ending was confusing. Although I was able to understand the timeline that the author wanted to write about, I was still confused as to why certain plot points turned out the way they did because the pacing was incredibly rushed at the end. A question that plagued me: "why was this even mentioned at all???" A lot was revealed all at once in the end making the "plot twist" seem sudden and out of nowhere
    • The extra chapter: didn't feel like it added much to the emotional journey I was going through. Regarding the relationship
      Spoiler

with the MC and jiji's parents... even though I knew they were important to jiji I also felt like they were very cardboard cutout characters because we didn't see much of them at all after their arc.

      [collapse]
    • Sometimes I lost track of characters mentioned a couple arcs ago
Overall, although the story started off strong there were more and more inconsistencies due to rushed pacing, causing the read to be a disappointing one. I love infinite flow, but this was a little messy.

Thank you to the translator for your work!

I really enjoy this story the mix of detective crime show with survival game meant you never got bored. The author did a really good job at writing horror and letting us see into the darkness of the human soul as well as the best part of it. Very well written until the least 3 chapters where I think the author rushed. I understood the story but it was too rushed to feel “real” if that makes any sense. So it’s a 4.6 out of 5 for me.

Also FZ was... more>> left hanging wish he had a connection with GX.

Thank god, Jiji is alive!

Title was pointless but great misdirection. Low key the MC and ML have the same faces bc MC has his OG appearance at the end and SY looks very similar to him... 🙃 still a good read lol

It's a great read, I liked how the author described MC. I really like the interaction of MC and Gu Jiji hehe. Unfortunately the author's way of opening up the mystery is quite convoluted. And also the pattern of the story is quite repetitive. The MC enters the mission world, after leaving he gets the news that there was a mu*der incident, he solves it, then then enters the mission world again, exits the world, gets the news about the incident, solves it and so on. Well, it's quite boring... more>> to see the pattern, but it's still tolerable. Give it a try <<less

It's good but the finishing is a bit confusing. It could've been explained better. And there are some questions which I can't understand yet until the end, such as...

Spoiler

Where is source of the demonic qi GXZ had when he beaten the ghosts?

How's GXZ look after he died in the last mission world? He can't use GJJ face. And his original look is being used by SY. Or is it SY who change his look?

-- after that it kind of weirded me out so much, but I kept reading so I could know the ending of the story. Reminded me of 'Kaleidoscope of the Dead' (plotwise) but not as intriguing? It's good and interesting as it's own story, I just think it's not the best out there.

There's elements that are.. written too abruptly (scene changes) and the switch between mission worlds and IRL gives me so much whiplash from back to back 'cases'. It's too much, it was doing alot and it was without a point for way too long. The majority of the story could be considered just story without a plot, until the plot decides to pop back in in the last 20 chapters before the end. Although it was an enjoyable ride, the ending reveal I feel like I've seen before. It just ends up abit boring because I could've guessed it.

Anyways it's still a fun story, just... there's alot of plot holes, so just be warned. <<less
