Hyperthymesia. Those with this condition can remember every detail of their lives from something as significant as the world’s turning point to something as small and as insignificant as a minor fleeting thought. They cannot forget and their thirst for knowledge allows them to be considered genius in some senses.

Legend has it that Ji Yushi was this kind of genius.

In addition, it was said that he was gay and very beautiful.

As soon as the news that he was going to support Tianqiong’s seventh squad broke out, it sent everyone buzzing.

Everyone knew that the captain of the seventh squad, Song Qinglan, was a hoodlum and deeply homophobic.

He not only relied on his super-powerful abilities to become the dark horse on the battlefield in less than two years, but he also hates it when those at the top forced a flower vase* into his squad.

Sure enough, Song Qinglan announced in front of everyone, “Useful? Us brothers are going out there working ourselves to the bone, we don’t need a little genius who can only speedread quantum waves!”

Later.

The squad was forced into a dire situation during their mission.

That beautiful little genius calmly continued, every gunfire hitting the mark, his fighting power peaking.

Song Qinglan begged in front of everyone, “Adviser Ji, stay.”

In the end, he added, “I’ll work myself to the bone for you.”

*****

Ji Yushi had a secret.

He would often be awake at night, suffering from memory overload and recurring nightmares.

There was only one thing that could let him fall asleep peacefully.

And that was Song Qinglan.

Thrilling adventure.

Even though I don't quite understand the time traveling concept presented in this novel, it didn't hinder me from enjoying their journey to love.

Love, family and purpose of life in this novel was strong. It gave the young MC tenacity to uncover the truth, his father despite of his craze but still doing what he can to stay by MC side and ML to bring back MC to his side.

They're intertwined to form a complete circle (I'm still immersed in the novel world).

It's an enjoyable novel.

This novel is complex so it's not suitable for readers who are looking for something light. BUT it is amazingly good and mind blowing. I haven't read much time travel genre novels so everything is new for me. The missions can get a little confusing at times and requires you to re-read the sentences for a bit but it all adds up in the end. For an action novel with a little over 100 chapters, it wrapped up pretty well. Definitely memorable and highly recommended!

Also, a slight note regarding the... more>> ML being h*mophobic, it's actually not really true -

Spoiler

In the past, ML was courted by a male suitor and the other party's actions was pretty excessive, making ML feel rather irate. So it's more of ML's dislike towards that certain person rather than anyone who is gay. It's also not to the extent of having PTSD. Although ML can be a little foul-mouthed at the beginning, he isn't that bad.

[collapse]

It takes almost 2/3 of the story before the MC and ML got together but throughout the novel, you see their relationship slowly change from being unfamiliar to partners that work so so well together. It's gratifying to see MC opening up to the ML and finally having someone by his side. I wouldn't say their romance is the fluffy kind, it's a bit more spicy and mature, the kind that has been through thick and thin. MC and ML actually reminds me a little of the main CP in Modu/silent reading.

t also good to see the side characters having their own personality and screen time.

The translator is excellent and releases chapters at a steady speed. Thank you! (´。• ᵕ •。`)

WHAT A GEM!!! HOLY HECK THIS REALLY GETS YOUR BRAIN GOING!! SO BRILLIANTLY WRITTEN !! LITERALLY MIND-BLOWING, IN BOTH SENSE.

I’LL SAY IT HERE!! THIS ENEMIES TO MUTUAL RESPECT TO LIFE AND DEATH COMPANIONS TO LOVERS COUPLE IS SO CUTE!!!

PSA: initially had left this on my ‘potentially good’ list for a while and hadn’t started because of the synopsis. BUT FRET NOT!!! They aren’t homophobic! (E.g. He doesn’t go ew ur gay? Tr*sh!) ML has reasons behind it and was just a bit of a bastard in the beginning (but it’s... more>> not horrible at all actually), and after the first arc they become really good teammates and worked super well together. ML becomes super super devoted and sweet later on (like after ch20 he’s not bastard-esque anymore) SO DON’T BE SCARED IF YOU’RE HESITANT BECAUSE OF THE SYNOPSIS!!!

the plot and each arcs are VERY VERY complex. There are many mentions and instances of time paradoxes and the concept of time in this novel. You really need to concentrate to understand thoroughly, my pea-brain was fried during the process but oh heck it was worth it. The translation is also very good and flows well. ALSO SO MANY TWISTS DAMN.

there are elements of mystery and puzzle-solving which reminds me of unlimited flow novels so this was definitely my cup of tea!

the team members are also very cute, li chun is my favorite!!! The author planned this novel so well and I loved it!!

MC and ML are also very realistic, they’re not overly OP; however, when they’re together, it’s like a golden duo. They support and help each other through life and death scenarios. Not to say that without each other they are bad, but they definitely shine together!

i recommend you don’t read any spoilers!! Everything will make sense in the end.

5/5! <<less

So far so good! I can't read Chinese so I'm waiting for the English translations per chapter, but lemme just say that the story is good. I really like the characters because I always find opposites-attract tropes so interesting. And the fact that the main couple didn't have a good first meeting was really cool. I like seeing enemies to friends to lovers so I'm very excited about this one.

Also, since it's sci-fi, I'm very curious about the time traveling system of this world and how their missions go. I... more>> also like the team, and I wanna see more of their interactions outside their missions and off-base. <<less

A fun, short and fast-paced read that helped me get out of a long reading slump. Very sci-fi, so the theoretical parts of it were a bit hard to follow, but I didn’t look too deeply. I can agree with some reviews that the romantic development could have been done better since it does go full throttle abruptly later on in the story, but I do think there is substantial reasons for them liking each other and it’s just not super blatant and written out. Romance is not the main... more>> focus of the story and that’s okay. I do enjoy the pairing and the humor between them as well as their squad was cute. There is a tiny bit of spice later in the story, nothing too explicit. The writing is not super elegant and parts did get repetitive but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story. It was an exciting unpredictable read, no it wasn’t a masterpiece, but to me it was worth reading and even rereading. I immensely enjoyed it was what it was. <<less

Writing this review currently at chap 20, may update more if needed after completion.

Just need to put it out there. I was expecting a typical BL or any romance novel settings but naurr. I 💯 agree with the review of not reading this when you're sick or having a headache. If it weren't for the BL tags and occasional questionable scenes between MC and ML, I would've thought this was a shounen or seinen. It is interesting but so far (at least upto ch 20) it's heavy on sci-fi. My... more>> tip is don't think to much and just follow whatever ML and MC explain lol

Special salute to the translator who translates everything to perfection and even include explanation like Quantum physics and other unique terms to the T. <<less

Phenomenal story! Truly excellent. I'll be rereading this in the future.

It has a perfect balance of relationship development and progress amidst the action and plot progression. The high level time travel concepts were explained well in the text and the translator Veyrithele did a superb job of providing additional explanations for when it was still a bit confusing.

Overall the translation is excellent, though there are pronoun inconsistencies especially in the second half and I think there are some mistranslations of slang and plurals that can be a bit confusing. However... more>> those do not take away from the overall translation. Just a heads up. <<less

Amazing! Mindblowing! A must read!

At first, during Ouroboros, I think the concept of Time Loop is familiar to me as someone who plays game often. Altough the concept of many spawn exist at the same time, it still only happens in limited scope of PU-31 planet and only during 1 day.

But when the Big Loop of 1439 happened my mind instantly blown away. I have to stop reading for a day to compute the concept of "Time happens simultaneously" into my brain and I still can't graps it completely even... more>> now hahahaha.

But I think there is a plot hole. In Sheng Yun case, since he always in the state of crossing over and never return to his original timeline of 1438 (when he decided to kill his future self in a year) then his loop will not be closed until he gets old? This is the plot hole that the author forget to explain. Because if Sheng Yun never returns then who will live his life from 1438 to 1439 (the Sheng Yun who will be killed) Eventually, he will have to return to 1438 in order to be killed in 1439.

Plot hole N0.2 Ji Yushi's dead body is left in 1439. his memory (or soul) is merged into his past self during Ouroboros mission in 1470. But he returns to different time point in 1456. So in 1456 there are 2 Ji Yushi that exist simultaneously a month apart. So, whose body the Sky Vault All Era send to those 2 time point in 1456?

This novel is breaking reality and natural order of the world seriously hahahaha... the author treated this novel like the concept of an RPG game where players can spawn continously upon death. <<less

Everything is connected.

My god how I want to praise the authors to the heavens on how good their writing is. Everything that happened, happened for a reason. It was all connected. Plot twists are unexpected but at the same time makes you feel like "So that's the reason why!" It all makes sense and no questions were left unanswered.

So much tension. A bit of horror (well I get easily scared). Right touch of humour. Sweet romance with the right amount of sexiness. All the timey wimey stuff are explained well.... more>> Everything about this novel is amazing.

What a masterpiece.

I also wanna thank the translator for doing an awesome job for explaining things clearly! Very highly recommended. <<less

General thoughts:

I loved the story's initial set up and concepts, the cast of characters, etc., but I feel it didn't pay off in terms of actually exploring any of those aspects in great depth.

What hooked me in (the missions) I felt was pushed aside by the story in favor for the final act romance—which, while sweet, didn't win me over.

... more>> I was also a bit mixed on the ending. Story sets it up just fine, but I feel it opens up more questions than it answers.

I really wanted to like this story more, but I couldn't.

Despite these qualms, I'd encourage people to give it a shot, especially if they're interested in the time travel aspects.

Edited 12-29-2024. Original review under spoiler.

3.5 Stars?

Brief premise:

MC was an archivist that got roped into completing squad missions. Group was about to undergo their first mission together with him, but then things go wrong. Time/space shenanigans ensue.

Ranting:

So I ended up liking the action more than the romance.

Don't get me wrong, they're cute. Power couple, whipped ML---love those tropes. It's just that. Their emotional development felt artificial in the sense that there wasn't really anything that made me go, "Ah, so *that's* why they loved each other."

The MC treats ML quite poorly for a while and never really makes up for it when they're together, beyond typical depictions of romantic affection. And it's because of this that ML's love for MC thus comes off as, I feel, quite irrational in comparison---he's willing to provide his support for MC's significant emotional baggage, he's willing to do significant acts for the MC. He extends himself tremendously and does not receive noticeable, reciprocal, equivalent treatment. Their dynamic thus feels imbalanced in that sense. The purpose of their relationship feels as though for ML to resolve MC's problems
Spoiler

(perhaps supported with how his problems are what makes up the story's overarching plot)

[collapse]
. There is no reciprocity to suggest otherwise, no investigation of anything on ML's end like that we see with the MC. Hence, my perception of an "imbalance." That was the main aspect of their relationship which irked me.

It's also the underlying reason why I feel the "worldbuilding" of this world is lacking, the underdevelopment emphasizing MC's developments, the little development that *does* exists within this world serving to put MC on a pedestal anyways. Combined with role of MC's hyperthermia as a strong plot device (reasoning behind its manifestation aside), his extreme intelligence and experience enabling him to solve nearly every problem (and is nearly unstoppable when teamed up with ML's strength)... it all is just sort of... eh.

Spoiler

Same sentiment applies towards the ending. It's oriented around the MC. Not a fan that MC's also related to the world system. Plot's sufficiently built up towards this detail, but combined with everything else, again, everything pointing towards the MC, it's a bit... frustrating? Disappointing? I don't know.

[collapse]

Grievances aside, I appreciated the journey this story brought me towards. I'd still like to read this again (especially as it's officially licensed now, hooray!). The missions were fun, and I'd be interested to see if my opinions are to change after a second go at this.

Original Review

(I go a bit more in depth about personal qualms regarding background content, throw in a few additional details, and provide an example with Zhou Mingxuan, but it's otherwise adjacent to my revised thoughts) :

Spoiler

Unlimited Flow & Interstellar? Let's go!!

---

So. I thought it was good, but there were some things that weighed down my rating to... let's say a 3.5? Liked the time travel aspect and was charmed by the supporting cast, but I wasn't... super into the main pairing (SQL is a *very* endearing ML, but what we actually know about him amounts to about as much as the other characters... more on that).

It's a wonderful novel with great ideas, but I feel like they were almost sidelined in favor of relationship development (which in itself was sweet, but a bit... boring, in all honesty). For example, I loved the other members of Team 7 (fun banter, personalities, etc.), but there's not much to them beyond what's shown in the first few chapters. Any info that *is* shown is minor details/implied content. Same comment applies with the "one-off" characters (e.g. Big Beard, love rival, Captain Qi, etc.).

A more detailed example I included is in the spoilers below.

Zhou Mingxuan. I was especially disappointed with how Zhou Mingxuan's conflict in the time bubble was executed. The whole conflict about him and his grandmother is discussed---there's a good point about not wanting to leave because here he's able to spend time with her---but it ends up stilted by their quick departure from the bubble.

MC reaches out a hand to him, talks to him about the unreality of the situation settling in once he gets used to everything, but everything---from the "betrayal" to the turnaround---feels too quick. I don't recall if ZM properly accepts his extended hand because of how tense the situation was then---the moment passes and they just sort of just... shove on the artificial mask and then he's forced to run along with them, so it doesn't even feel like ZM had made his decision then.

In addition, I didn't feel the connection between MC & ZM to be close enough for the moment itself to feel substantial. Once they escape the scenario and are situated back into an "in-between" zone, MC & ZM apparently have a heart-to-heart on the beach, but that's only an alluded scene. We don't actually get to see any of it because then there's a PoV switch to SQ as he's finally processing his feelings.

And we hardly see MC & ZM interact after that.

SQ being a blubbering mess was a cute moment in itself... but I wish it didn't come at the cost of getting to know some of the other characters.

While I feel the world is invigorated by the concept of time/space travel, I don't feel the world itself as actually being alive. There's not enough on actual world-building or other people, alternate societies, etc. Rather, this story's focus is ultimately bound to the MC, his conflict, and/or his relationship with the ML. Unfortunately, I find that "Mist" is weighed down because of that.

One thing I will say about the relationship: I do love how they grow to look after each other while in action. Zombie behind one of them? The other will take care of it. An intended killing blow? Nope, the other will get a blow in first. Truly a power couple.

But together, I feel that they lack... something. I'll have to think on that for later.

---

I write this having just finished reading everything, so my thoughts are kind of all over the place. I'll likely edit this review some more with time. (Edit: Might be a while before I get back to this. I've got exams to study for, haha.)

Thrilling, exciting, and totally nerve-wracking.

Disclaimer: I dove into this book without reading any reviews, trusting the ratings instead. I wanted to experience it with a 'clean slate'.

I absolutely loved the theme and setting. The author did an amazing job weaving together a complex, intricate, and entertaining story. This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster – I cried, smiled, laughed, felt anxious, and tense. It was all written so beautifully and cleverly.

Story-wise, this book is definitely worth the read. If you’re into complex settings with a well-explained plot, you’ll enjoy... more>> it. I’d suggest picking this up when you’re in the mood for something "deep and heavy" because you’ll find yourself thinking hard about some of the theories at play. But don’t worry, there’s a helpful soul who has created a visual guide to the storyline, which helps a lot!

Some parts are seriously nerve-wracking, and just when I thought it was over, boom—plot twist! Reading this book felt like being told I was running a 5K marathon, only to find out the route was full of uphill climbs. Just when I thought, “Phew, flat ground, finally!”, there’d be another hill ahead. Sure, I caught my breath now and then, but the next twist would just knock the wind out of me again. Even when I thought the nerve-wracking moments were over, the next plot twist would have me in tears.

That said, I really appreciated the humor sprinkled throughout. It gave me a much-needed break and reminded me that this story wasn’t all doom and gloom. It’s like adding that perfect seasoning to a dish – offering hope that it’s not a tragedy and will end on a good note. Honestly, I had to double-check a few times to make sure there wasn’t a ‘tragedy’ tag on this book because I didn’t want to accidentally walk into heartbreak. My heart's too soft for that!

There are some repetitive descriptions, especially when it comes to the characters’ looks and personalities. Some might find it boring, but I didn’t mind. As for character development, tags like “strong to stronger” and “protagonist strong from the start” give a clue about the characters. This book focuses more on the plot, so don’t expect a lot of character growth. The characters are already pretty “mature and well-developed” from the start. Instead of the characters evolving, it’s the story that grows and moves forward.

Oh, and don’t be put off by the mention of ‘h*mophobia’ in the description. Some characters have had bad experiences with other gay people, which explains why they’re cautious around the ML (Ji Yushi). As someone who’s met real-life homophobic people, I can say that what’s in this book isn’t true h*mophobia. The characters’ behavior (ML, MC, SC) comes from their prejudices due to past unpleasant experiences. Yup, every character has their own biases towards each other. <<less

Amazing story! The plot is very interesting, especially with the concept of time. The story can be really complicated so it was hard to understand sometimes but I really liked it. The Ouroboros arc was definitely my favourite arc.

Spoiler

Almost everything had a loop, like the so called strangers that the MC meets and the cats. There was always a logical reason for many things with definitely makes the story much better.

The Mc's personality doesn't feel bland to me nor do their character in general. Although he has a perfect memory, it doesn't necessary mean having an advantage without a disadvantage. There are characteristics that makes him feel more human.

The same goes for the Ml, he isn't just a love interest who dotes on the MC. He is an arrogant person but it's only because of his achievements that he has accomplished. He is also very caring not only to the MC but to his teammates who tends to rely on him. He definitely is a green flag.

The relationship between the MC and the ML doesn't feel unnatural to me, it was smooth and very steady. Neither of them really fell in love at first sight, there was the development of friend, trust, care and etc. They both really care for each other and match their energy.

The side characters is also well written especially the Mc's 'brother' as well as the seventh squad. They add more colours to the novel but also they contribute to the plot. I love all of their dynamics with the MC and the ML it also gives more personality to the two.

The Mc's father was definitely interesting. He wasn't the best father but in a way he tried to be there for him without being found out. I cried with the MC when he found out that his father was secretly helping him during his life. His character felt human especially with his desires and desperation. I liked that the ML was mad at the Mc's father for abandoning his son and his job as a parent to Fix the timelines and save himself.

After my 4th time reading this, I can say

Just read it.

It's amazing how perfect Ji Yushi (mc) and Song Qinglan (ml) are for each other. Their relationship develops very naturally from mutual misunderstandings of each other's character to teammates to trust and finally romantic partners.

I love how they are so familiar with each other by the end, getting to know each other slowly and falling in love. Song Qinglan is such a green flag haha. It's great how he is "normal" unlike some MLs who are way too op -... more>> yes, he is strong and people rely on him, but he is also arrogant, funny, and works hard to hide his flaws from the team members who look up to him. If anything, Ji Yushi is too op due to his hyperthymesia, but he has his own flaws that make him very human.

Furthermore, the side characters are well written and are not just there to expand the world for the two main characters. They have their own feelings, desires, and while they are subordinates of the ML, they are able to think for themselves. I love how they ship Ji Yushi and their captain, and they are so supportive even though they are all straight.

Although it says in the summary that the ML and the team members are homophobic, it's cleared up pretty early on that they aren't, which makes the story a lot better in my opinion. I wouldn't have wanted a "homophobic to only gay for you" story from Song Qinglan. He just said he was homophobic because he didn't want Ji Yushi (or anyone else) to put himself in danger by coming to join their team. But it was funny when he seemed a little homophobic because of his discomfort towards Ji Yushi's boyfriends that he created in his mind due to misunderstandings. He was like "why don't I like the idea of Ji Yushi having boyfriends? He needs to have a better outlook on relationships, even if he's gay, " like okay just admit you wanna get freaky with him.

With each arc, things become clearer and they also get more interesting. For example, Ouroborus (Arc 1) is very confusing and, in my opinion, not as interesting as the other arcs. Then, each arc gets better as the characters get closer to each other and trust each other more. Finally, in my opinion, the Rubik's Cube arc is top tier and slams all the other arcs.

Some novels are unable to maintain the relationship dynamics the whole time, or the ending is too abrupt. Mist doesn't do any of that, it starts off strong and ends even stronger. Every time I reread it, I keep falling in love with their relationship and how comfortable they are with each other at the end.

I highly recommend this, especially people who like infinite flow but are looking for something more sci-fi. <<less

I've been avoiding this novel as I'm worried about romance. The ML is a straight homophobic while the MC is gay. After reading it, I would say that the romance is nicely done. It's sweet, progressive, and done at the right time. The two main characters' interaction are interesting even when they're still not a couple.

The other members of the squad add a lot of color to this novel. The arcs are fast-paced and brain burning. I really don't like the circle thing, especially when it's about time as it's... more>> hella confusing. I even got irritated at one point because most of the arcs in the novel have time related concepts one way or another.

Overall, this novel is not bad. I would probably rate this a 4/5. <<less

A really good story with great world building. The laws of time and space that the writer created are super realistic. You can really follow the story without thinking "that doesn't make any sense" or "that's s*upid".

And the relationship between the main characters was great and their image didn't change after they got together.

I just wanted to say thank you for translating this novel and I'm sad it's ended but what a journey loved every minute off it.

It can be difficult to understand at times however it is a fantastic read. Great story, great chemistry and major green flags. If you are looking for detailed smut there is none but it doesn't take away from the novel it suits it well.

I really enjoyed how everything came like full circle and everything that happened was for a reason. Definitely recomend.
