I agree to what the translator said: it may not be as fluffy as others but it is nonetheless sweet. I like the maturity of Lu Chengyu and Yan Mu and the fact that MC/LC did not waste his second chance at life and behaved like a person who has undergone polishing for years (not like some immature protagonists in other rebirth stories).

One thing I like about the MC is that he isnt successful because of his future knowledge but he originally bf regressing had good ideas and discernment like with the air quality plan.

Read 19 chapters so far so here's what I think:

    • Typical rebirth where MC is too OP.

      MC is mary sue like because of his experience from past life. It makes the story less exciting, since you can expect that everything that will happen to the MC from here on are all good things.

      There's not much distinct line between them from the early chapters, considering MC is a new recruit, MC is bold enough to act on his own (not in a bad way though). MC seems he is on equal status as ML and they act like pals. Although ML doesn't mind because MC is proficient in everything, I still think it's important to draw a clear line between boss and employee.

      There are instances where
      it emphasizes lookism, and there's a point in the story where it isn't enough to criticize the attitude but they also said, "lack of appearance is considered a defect". ML seems to be inclined to beauty as he judges people based on their appearance. Though, other than that the ML is ok. He's not overbearing nor arrogant. He is actually kinda cute.

That's all, gonna change my ratings once I managed to read further. There's not much to point out, as there's not much happenings that stands out and worth praising either. Just so-so.

I love this novel. MC is adorable.

Lu Chengyu is a cool character. He is smart and cunning. He is a gentleman but vicious to his enemies. He is a direct to the point person even in terms with his feelings.

ML is not posessive like common ML. A quiet and face paralysis person but expressive towards his beloved.

He got reborn and on this life, he found that his previous life tragedy was not due to bad luck but planned by someone.

LCY's mom and real Dad was from well known families. His Dad is a best friend of his Real Dad.

Those who killed his Real Dad wants him dead while his mothers side tries to protect him in the dark.

In his previous life he never figure it out. He is an innocent person died due to other peoples greed.

I was just looking for something new to read and chose this one without too much thought - but it’s so good!

I ended up reading all 26 chapters in one go and only then realized that it hasn’t been updated in a while. Someone please tell me this hasn’t been dropped?!

I'm going to try and sum up the main points

I MTL'd to the end, it was easy to understand. Current translation isn't the fastest but it's well done.

MCs and MLs personalities are enjoyable. The progression of the romance is great, no dumb misunderstandings.

The main things going on are business stuff with MC doing some acting on the side. All was well executed.

There were a few points that bothered me a bit but there aren't really any issues.

Loved this, it's definitely worth reading

The first few chapters are okay but as the story goes, the plot becomes more and more interesting. The story has depth and is very well written.

I super love the MC and ML. Especially the ML, not the typical overbearing one. I also love the MC, he's like a fox but level headed and calm.

No misunderstanding and the story is direct to the point.

Author, I want more of this ????

I liked it and since I don't like the authors b-g romances I was a little surprised to enjoy this slow paced slice of life story. The MC and ML are well-matched and intelligent. Our MC is always polite and smiling (he worked in the service field so its second nature), but he's not always nice. He isn't perfect, nor is he good at everything, but he is very good in his field (s) of experience. When he acts in the movie he has a usual number of NGs for... more>> a newbie and he can't sing, his house is messy and he has a side account devoted to trolling social media.

the frozen face ML is awkward and cute. I like that he is depicted as human, rather than as a perfect ideal cold and ruthless ML (though he looks like it at first). Not a lot of wangst and drama so if that's your thing than you might not like this. Conflicts are done well without dragging things out forever and there's just a little family melodrama towards the end (nothing to do with the two coming out).

if you liked Superstar Aspirations and Rebirth of a Supermodel than you might like this one as well, though this has a lot more in the way of friends and family interactions and reactions. Over all an oddly relaxing read. <<less

I have bookmarked this LN for months, unsure if it will ever get picked up again. And my optimism paid off, another translator is doing an amazing job of sharing this story to the world. I love the story so far, mostly because I love the MC and how his past life's misfortunes slowly get revealed while his new life is showering hum with well-deserved blessings. I hope this story get translated until the end. I'm so looking forward to how this s story goes.

I don't know why, but unlike the rest of my favorite Bl list, it's more realistic than investment etc. I return to this novel from time to time because it deals with the subjects and the relations are very soft.

Up to the middle the story was good, then it started getting dragged. It wasn't bad, romance wise there isn't any drama, revenge wise it was satisfying (except for blaming his former classmate for his misfortune when we find that other factors played a hand) . Still, it didn't leave me with any excitement in the end.

So I started this novel more than once before and didn't finish it but I eventually binge read this now. It was a very slow paced romance. Its not fluffy. Not cute. But it was good though not my favorite.

Modern World setting/ business world/ CEO gong/ CEO seme/ Employee Shou/ Employee uke/ from rags to riches/ power couple/ family schemes and conspiracies/ acting/ investment/ won the lottery/ stone faced top/ serious Gong/ serious seme

I can't seem to get interested in finishing this book. Maybe it's the sudden romance appearing from no where. Maybe it's the heavy trope that the rebirth guy managed to earn himself endless golden fingers in martial arts, acting, calmness, business savvy, etc in his 10 or so years of being crushed by his roommate's jealous boyfriend. Maybe it's the random revenge that seems too heavy for the crime (in the new life).

Everything comes too easily, there's not too much plot and not much of an underlying lesson.

The translation of the first chapters was a bit confusing, but it got better quickly. After that, the story was a good feel-good OP protagonist, sweet romance. I also enjoyed the focus on the business world. There was another review that mentioned MC's friends somewhat disappearing towards the end, but it's really easy for college friends to fade away when people get into their separate careers and romances, and are no longer living together, so that feels realistic to me. Friendship-wise, I thought they developed the friendship with his co-workers... more>> better than the old college roomies anyway. On the romance, I liked that neither MC or ML really overpowered the other. Even though ML was in a more powerful life position, he didn't completely pave the way for MC. Also they didn't include the trope of one being reluctant all the time while the other was a beast in bed. No smut, but what you gather from their bed-time life is everything being very mutual.

I don't know if this is a re-read later for me, but I still enjoyed it enough to be willing to give a five. <<less

Overall

Because the faceslapping was not in your face, realistic and were quite minor, it gave the story a more classy feeling than if there were countless s*upid villains making trouble haha. There are mysteries that made me curious to find the conclusion at the end and the hindsight understanding of many of the MC's original life almost gave me goosebumps which says how good the author is. I also like how the couple was portrayed by the author. The achievements were done by the MC by himself. The ML... more>> only did the things that were truly out of the reach of someone who doesn't have the lineage. The only issue I have is the translation, which is better than MTL but not great.

Translation/Writing

I read the translation from 3 translators for different parts of the story. The 1st two chapters are by Reader's Realm. The translation wasn't great. It was readable but there were some sentences that were confusing, especially since this is the setting up so everything was new to the reader.

For chapters 3-32, I read from Shunraiki Translations. The first quarter/half of their translations were also not great, many confusing sentences that made me puzzled a bit on what was happening. But later on, it got better so that the flow was pretty good. The only errors were easily fixed in my head while reading.

Then, the last translator, Midnightrambles. The translation level went back down

to not great again and basically stayed there until the end. I can understand 85% of what's happening and the other 15% I can guess the general gist maybe. Some of the sentences did impact my understanding, I feel like if the translation was good, I might have enjoyed the story even more.

However, these translations are definitely better than MTL and compared to like Green Tea translations which are just 0.5% better than MTL, at least I can more or less understand the story. So I am grateful to the translators that it is readable and to not let it stop anyone from reading the story.

As for the writing itself, I think it's good! There was some suspense and mystery that I was honestly not expecting lol. I feel like this was a step up from the normal careless web novel. Just a bit haha.

Themes/What Story Tried to Achieve

From the synopsis, I was expecting the MC to work hard to go from bad luck due to unlucky circumstances from the previous life to selecting stocks and working hard at a company to be successful by grasping at the 2nd chance in life. However, the selecting stocks part was very little, only choosing the company he's working for. There was no thinking. Working hard at a company was fulfilled using the varied experience he got from his bad luck in his previous life. And he did become successful at his company early on.

But then, there was an additional add-on of acting in the business vibe of the story. I felt that that was a bit clashing. At least for one of the movies, The Universe. He alrd said he wasn't interested in acting, there weren't any additional benefits other than personal fame and money to acting in this The Universe movie but he actually wanted the ML to open the backdoor to have a supporting role in it. He even won a Supporting Actor award like, too unbelievable just for the acting parts. He had never acted before previously, just watched.

I loved the mystery and action parts too. I just wish there were more business dealing then as well, like it was at the beginning. I felt like I missed some things about the underhanded things happening and the mysteries due to the translation but I understood it all in the last chapter because it was explained clearly then haha.

For the romance, it was okay. I wasn't really invested in the romance because I didn't see why the ML fell in love. Apparently he was already interested in their first encounter? Too insta love for me. The MC's feelings were much slower and relatable. I do however, greatly appreciate that the MC kept all faculties working in the presence of the ML. And the ML isn't the forceful, overbearing gong that doesn't understand no. Veryyy good. The s*x scenes are fade to black and euphemismly described in like one sentence. I'm happy about that because unless I really really really get into both the characters and their relationship with each other, the s*x scenes will be too cringy for me. So needless to say, I found 99.9% of all s*x in my time in novelupdates super cringy lol.

Pacing

I think it was just right. Nothing was rushed. Since the length is on the shorter side, I felt that they fit a good amount of stuff in there too.

Characters

I like the MC very much. He's lowkey, calm and quiet but he isn't a Garu Stu. He's very capable, cunning and personable with a bad life which makes people sympathetic to him even when he's being a cunning fox. He's perfect but actually not once you know him which is refreshing in the BL scene haha. I don't have much of an impression of the ML except that he's the ML of the CEO nature. I do appreciate that he respects people and also respects the MC's own capabilities. I do like how they fit together, though. He can do things the MC doesn't want or know how to do haha.

I like how the friends in the story are actual friends with their own personalities, history and lives separate from the couple. In web novels, it can feel like they only exist as a prop for the couple haha. It is also nice to know there are other people in the world that know the MC and ML heart to heart and wish good for them too.

the novel was good to read but the grammar and the flow of words throughout the sentences were awful, the good part of the novel was that the plot was interesting.

the MC has a good personality in the novel, not getting revenge but showing that he can win in his second life.

and president yen was dreamy and fierce in the novel.

my score is 3/5 stars and the flow of translation to English is bad but the plot is nice

Currently at chapter 12 and thinking about dropping this novel.

It's boring and the way ML "chase" MC is too... abrupt for me. Like, hey yes, you paid for my meal in chapter 2 and familiarly, you are one of the people who applied in our company. Wow, I am interested. Did our president fell in love at first sight?

But, well, I still at chapter 12 and I may change my review when I pick this up again. For now, I'll leave it in my reading list.

Written by the same author of Very Happy, Hello Wife and Eight Treasure Trousseau.

Its a bit different, in terms of development and its not really that bad.

I can also understand the bad reviews saying that the MC don't have real feelings for the ML and just feel grateful. Since his pov only focused on rational things, like how he wants to be a better person, how he was attracted in the ML though he doesn't think that its a romantic feeling, when it was actually love. High IQ, low EQ... more>> MC haha!

But all in all, its actually fluffy and sweet plus a bit of dog-blood family drama.

Not as good as the three novels I mentioned but still okay.

I skipped-read some chapters so this review is still a bit unreliable. <<less

By the same author of 'Very happy', an excellent and highly recommended danmei. This one is an older novel and I did not like it as much as 'Very Happy' because I find the characters and plot too simplistic and stereotyped. There are big inconsistencies, especially relating to MC being OP without rhyme or reason... OP in academics, OP corporate manager, OP martial artist, genius actor... I love OP characters but here, being OP does not make sense especially when author is seemingly conveying a 'realistic' type of story... yes,... more>> even his 'rebirth' does not explain such abilities...

Also I feel like the romance was a tad lacking... ML was very passionate but not MC... MC had no feelings beyond that of friendship for a good half of the novel, not even the slightest attraction, s*xual tension or ambiguity. This is a complete downer because when they got together afterwards, it seemed quite unbelievable. It feels like MC accepted being with ML just cause there was no one better around! Once they got together, it shows that MC has sincere feelings for ML, but I have no idea from where such feelings come from!

But for a light fiction, the story and characters are still quite interesting, so, although not my fav but still a good entertaining read. <<less
