It's good.

  1. It doesn't have that over-simplistic language that most "transmigrated into ancient times in a small village"... ok, maybe a little at the start, and a bit cringy as well, but it's not too bad.
  2. MC and ML relationship development is also quite good.
  3. The side characters are also well treated tho their presence is not the most prominent it's still better than some novels which is quite good.
Sigh, sometimes the more you read the lower your expectations gets.

Anyways, it's not at all bad, good for passing the time.

Though it may feel smooth sailing for the MC, it's a very good story.

MC was really lucky to transmigrate during the reign of emperor Zhou Yu. His reign caused abundance of righteous and good-hearted officials, which greatly assisted in the success of MC.

Also, as MC said, he's also involved in nepotism as although he's not under a minister, but he's a friend of the emperor's beloved. A nepotism which gives power to those capable is good. Nepotism isn't inherently bad.

I liked the modern extras too. After 4th extra, the rest... more>> exist as a separate novel 'My Boyfriend is a Macho'. You can see it at the jjwxc site and it's free.

No drama, fluffy, healthy consensual relationship, and 2-3 s*x scenes by chapter 45.

Kinda cute but pretty boring and repetitive by this point. Plot progression is too slow and the story is keen on dragging out the grinding/slice of life stuff. ML still has memory loss with no signs of anything returning and MC still trying to get rich.

One thing that REALLY bothered me the entire time is that MC does absolutely NOTHING to help ML regain his memories. He even stated that it's all the better for him to stay... more>> by his side. 🤨

Like what? You know this man has kungfu powers and can read, and you KNOW this is a BIG deal (no random peasant could EVER have these skills or education), but you still wanna selfishly keep him by your side... ? Ok bro. 😒 Not like he has any family, friends, loved ones etc. that might be dying to get him back or anything. Right?

Theres also a weird plot hole (?) I noticed about the ML being a s*ave and stuff

Um this guy is a general and yet when they went to register him as a s*ave... no one noticed? Same name? Same appearance? How was he not recognized by anyone???? Even if you decided to have him registered as a s*ave without him actually being present, you'd still have to write his name down (which is the only thing he remembers so it's not like they would've used a fake name) which is the same name as the general that went missing at some point.

I have to be honest I felt like this is a mashup between Li Jin's farming life and favourite ugly husband

Daily life of a scholar who -instead of studying all day - went to farm and do business instead. Told in a fast-paced way which is good if you hate long descriptive bs owo

Until I read this book, I didn't realise that a manly shou and gentle gong was such an awesome pairing. I am really sold on this pairing.

On that note, the relationship is very fluffy and it leaves you feeling happy and fulfilled.

This story is worth reading and rereading.

This is too good, OMG Thanks to Yummy Yogurt for translating, and the person who uploaded the MTL on Wattpad. I couldn't wait up the good trans but the MTL satiated my curiosity, and I just finished it. Gah! So cute! I personally have not read a Gong/Seme POV where he feels so enamored with the other, but this is it! The ML is the MC in this novel, and it's just so refreshing. Well, well, well... It's been a long time since I've read a story without "obsessive love/possessive characters" tags so I'm having difficulties in rating this story lmao.

It wasn't really my cup of tea. Was it sweet? Sure. Were characters likable? Kinda. The plot tho, got boring and stale for me since there was no tension, no goals, nothing. And I gotta admit MC was a tad cringe.

My lack of enthusiasm towards this novel may also be because I have read a similar one called "Beware of Chickens" on Royal Road.... more>> A dude transmigrates, gets a waifu, coincidentally knows a lot about making houses, farming, etc., has a respected status... With the "slice of life" genre being as it is, reading one is enough to predict another ten to come.

In conclusion, fam, read if you haven't read a similar one before cause there's really nothing new in it. <<less

This one, is like the twin with the Ugly Husband.

Another happily ever after story, but written not in cringe fluff way.

- MC Gong, ML manly capable shou.

... more>> - MC prefers manly ger, aka he's 100% gay.

- No face slapping. No love rival, no enemy, just small fry that easily kill their ownself.

- A bit surprised that the author didnt write the children in it coz usually there'll be children. They have children just right at the end of the story.

- MC main occupation is scholar, chef, and business man. ML handles the hard job of military man.

- Good story background and resolution for support characters. In fact, there's not many characters are being written as friends, thus we dont feel lost when there's nothing to tell about them. <<less

I actually just finished my second reading via mtl. Still one of my favorites, along with Li Jin's daily farming life.

I like how the main pair complement each other, with MC being the smart one (not just academically) and practical, and ML being the strong type but shy (I'm particularly fond of strong looking characters who look imposing on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside). Their journey is just one fluffy ride with a bit (read: a lot) of spiciness (both literally and figuratively) and a bit... more>> of tense moments. Villains get sorted out, and I like how Shen Yanbei dealt with some villains, really showed how ruthless he can be to whoever hurts his waifu (that revenge was absolutely cold and sweet).

Overall a nice read, if you want some sweet and fluff and farming life (and food). Hope this gets adapted to a manhua someday, I really want to see Yanbei and Changfeng's dynamic visually. And also see how much of a meatbun Qingze is lol. <<less

It's good and I'm almost choked by the abundance of dog food. Plot wise, it's excellent on its own way and I kinda like the slice of life ambience in the early chapters.

MC (gong) is the person who deeply loves ML (shou). He's a simp towards to his man and he was proud for that.

... more>> While the ML is a sweetheart with so much insecurities. Nevertheless, he gained confidence due to the tender loving care from MC.

About the side couple—they didn't overpower the main couple. They have their own flow and it didn't disturb the chemistry of the main couple.

If you plan to read this on RAWS, don't hesitate since it's easy to understand. <<less

To tell the truth I don't really like bara/too much muscles, I like normal proportion muscles!!!

Maybe it just my understanding, but the gong in this story seem to like the 1st type, too much muscles, shou. So when I want to read it I'm a bit reluctant. Final solution is... just imagine the shou with normal proportion muscles!!!

i really like this story. The most refreshing part is MC is not OP with absurd golden finger after transmigrating. Even though power fantasy story is fun, it get boring after reading a lot of it so I really welcome this change.

another good points are the logical application of modern knowledge into the ancient setting without the usage of the magical space and MC identity remain as people from countryside (no cliche plot twist like "oh he is actually the emperor") and steadily raised through the ranks by his own... more>> effort. A little faster than other officials but still within acceptable range & the author handle it with proper explaination of effect & cause so it does not felt like the raise of Gary Sue.

i also like how the "wife" role in this story is the opposite of the usual cliche in this genre. He is not some dainty useless damsel in distress but an equal to his husband.

shout out to yummy yogurt for the english translation. The translator is doing a good job by keeping the pinyin of most of the term that do not have english equivalent.

it's always my pet peeve when "translator" translate EVERYTHING into english & even change some things to suit western reader. To me, this makes the novel lose it's original local flavour & just read like another western story. I.e: local cuisine name is change into a more "modern" name that most reader recognize. Good thing, yummy yogurt DOES NOT do this. <<less

I like this novel cuz I hate those novels who just talk about transmigration n then u have to farm n family sepration do overwork blah blah n the end it was different. The reason I love it it talks about emperor n dukes n scholars, altho emperor is second main lead with his own beloved one but still without his support nothing will happen n the main lead shou is duke ger who became general n so on fight n inventions while the gong who prefer general shou is... more>> kinda loving n so good story its interesting aswell. Ranking n so on from farm to imperial court this type of novel is more interesting then openeing food corners or telling prices n recicpies how they cooked how much it cost them such novels are really boring and time waste. <<less

This was awesome fluff and contained actually healthy attitudes regarding relationships and your partner. Loved that our ML had a straightforward attitude and knew how to reassure his out of the ordinary partner. They were perfect together and the side couple was nice too, with a surprisingly okay relationship when one of then is the emperor.

For note, it wasn't fully translated. I couldn't wait and so decided to MTL. It was easy enough to follow.

The only thing I disliked about the novel was that it ended. Lol. I did not mind reading about their mundane activities such as cooking because both main characters were sweet as honey.

The plot was mostly slice of life, well written by the writer. What I love about it is that there was no psychological barrier between Shen Yanbei, MC, and Gu Changfeng, ML. Yanbei transmigrated and easily adapted to his new life. He accepted that Changfeng was his male wife and vowed to uphold the name of the previous host's family. Changfeng who lost his memory was also not restricted to accepting that he was married. So, there was no restriction on intimacy. Yanbei, originating from the future, was not shy in describing his feelings. Changfeng also blossomed under Yanbei's guidance.

As the story progressed, Changfeng regained his memory and identity. The story followed a six-ranking upper and lower officialdom system. For example, Yanbei was a 4th lower-rank civil minister and wasn't eligible to attend court. While Changfeng was a 3rd upper-rank military minister who could attend court. This did not dishearten Yanbei. He took it with stride to work even harder. He did not aim for a 3rd upper rank. For him, a 4th upper rank was enough as long as he got to see his wife in court. Please excuse the ranking because it was confusing on my part and I'm just guessing most of it.

In short, the story was sweet as honey.

The development and tone is kind of cliché and predictable but it's enjoyable for me.

I really like this story, especially the beginning parts. The ending could have been better, but not going to fault the author for weakening in the end and not creating something just as powerful and/or meaningful.

Not bad. I thought I wouldn't like a manly shou with a scholarly gong but I didn't mind it at all. The blushing on the manly shou was cute.

This wasn't my cup of tea sadly, a bit too slice of life for me I think. By chapter 70 was starting to get bored. I really didn't like how the author decided to go for the "I'm not good enough for him so I must be the best" trope.

I was also confused about the modern day chapters. The place I MTL'd... more>> it from had the first modern chapter randomly around 44, then again around 67, it was confusing to go from ancient china to modern day. I just didn't care about the modern day story either.

The translation is MTL so I just MTL'd it from the begining. Thank you to the reviewer who translated some of the terms. I was really confused in the MTL when they called the ML daughter-in-law, wifey makes more sense. MTL also translates ger to twins, but I already knew this one. <<less

FEEL GOOD STORY

I absolutely loved this pair, their life in village is one of the most comforting stories I read. The story have not many ups and downs but goes smoothly. MC falls for ML on love at first sight, while ML takes some time. I loved the way MC loved ML and took care of him. The Main characters are fleshed out well as the side characters.
