Gods and demons are everywhere in the Grand Desolate World.

Jiang Lan finally becomes a disciple of Kunlun Mountain; specifically—the only disciple of the Ninth Summit.

Knowing the dangers outside, he decides to stay hidden in the Ninth Summit’s Netherworld Cave and cultivate in seclusion. With a unique sign-in system unknown to everyone else, Jiang Lan acquires several divine powers, Dharma treasures, and other aids to enhance his cultivation along the way.

His current goal is to keep his actual cultivation level a secret, remain a low-key Kunlun disciple and stay out of harm’s way until he is strong enough to take on any obstacles.

Only when he emerges from his cultivation after some time does his Master bring him an important message: Kunlun has found him a fiancée.

I'd give it a solid 4/5.

This is a slow-paced cultivation novel. Anyone who wants a lot of action should avoid it. MC is super cautious, and the title is misleading in that the MC only truly comes out after he becomes nearly invincible towards the end of the novel. Romance is minimal, and nothing explicit. Action elements are scattered here and there.

Overall it's a kinda hidden OP MC novel BUT super slow. Would recommend if looking for a chill read.

A fairly solid novel that is quite similar to My Senior Brother is Too Steady with a very low key protagonist who does everything he can to minimise any danger. The ending is a bit abrupt as it does essentially involve a time skip and then an epilogue.

The translation of the title is a bit unusual as Turquoise Pond is referred to as Jade Lake in the novel and while technically correct it's like translating a Fat Cat as an Overweight Feline so at first I wasn't sure if it... more>> referred to two different places. <<less

MC is lowkey for a good majority of the plot. He gets involved at certain points so the story has something more to it. The last couple chapters, ~50 perhaps, fall a bit short but gets the job done for finishing the story in a reasonable manner. Honestly, a 3.5/5 more so than a 4. The humor was fine for a while but it's always the same couple of jokes on repeat.

This seemed to me as slightly bad/ repetitive writing of a pretty good story. Only with each repetitive action/phrase the writing gets less bad it seems and intentionally bland, almost as if it manages to blend with the mc’s personality and his world view. After finishing it i’m left slightly dazed and wondering if I’m starting to cultivate too hahhaha and understand the book’s dao and this type of writing was made intentionally so. It doesn’t give a felling of story ended and surprisingly I think I could read it... more>> a second time and comprehend more. Not a fan of the lack of story building and graphic details, it takes too long to build the plot- this takes some of my appreciation off so only 4 stars. But if we look at this book from our mc’s point of view, ‘his’ story was appropriately portrayed and the writer created a masterpiece. Really, I binge read it so maybe it made more sense for me. If I had stopped, it probably wouldn’t have made any cohesive sense, but only seemed boring. Like this it’s like is a cultivation biography.

Good job, I wish I had the patience to read it again more in depth as I feel I overlooked things by getting complacent with the book’s rhythm. Oh well, I’m not planning to cultivate the book like our diligent MC so... <<less
