After the disappearance of his parents, Chen Ge inherits the family-run haunted house attraction at an amusement park. Struggling to bring in customers, he discovers a black phone that grants him the chance to improve his haunted house with expanded scenarios, mastery of skills, the possibility of inviting supernatural inhabitants, and even clues as to what happened to his parents—but first, he must complete terrifying and dangerous haunted quests within 24 hours.

——

The hearse with the weird odor slowed to a stop before the entrance. The sound of pebbles could be heard bouncing on the ceiling. There were footsteps coming from the corridor, and there seemed to be someone sawing next door. The door knob to the room rattled slightly, and the faucet in the bathroom kept dripping even though it had been screwed shut. There was a rubber ball that rolled on its own underneath the bed. Wet footsteps started to surface one after another on the floor.

At 3 am, Chen Ge held a cleaver in his hand as he hid beside the room heater. The call he was trying to make was finally answered. “Landlord, is this what you meant by ‘the house can be a little crowded at night’‽”

This is actually a good novel. Just sometimes the plot can be contrived. It needs editing and it could be a top class novel. Forgivable because it's webnovel format.

Author has a talent for horror descriptions. 4 Stars.

One of my all time favorites and definitely the best one in the Horror genre. I love the main character Chen Ge and the over arching plot. Seems like the story is slowly starting to approach its end, I could be wrong though and the author may choose to continue beyond the conclusion of the current arc, let’s see. You find yourself getting attached to the side characters and some of the ghosts as you read along. Definitely recommend for those who like horror and even slice of life. It’s... more>> not excessively gory or but slow paced and relaxing in some parts while others will get your heart racing as you devour the paragraphs. Definitely in for a good time for any new readers <<less

My dude, my pal, my guy! Listen! This is really a horror novel, terrifying-type, you know? The not-for-the-weak-of-heart-or-for-those-who-suffer-from-recurring-nightmares-type of novel.

It's very well made, I cried, I laughed, I felt anxious, restless and afraid in all the right places.

This novel will be a journey filled with an amazing story, where every nook and cranny have a twist, and it will get to a point where you will expect it to happen, and if it dont, you will suspect even more. I swear, just take my word about this. (And no, Im... more>> not saying that the twists are absurd or something. No! It's the exact opposite thing, it makes a LOT of sense, and it scary me)

Anyway, why dont you give it a try?

Ps: just remember to not read it before sleep, try the mornings, I discovered it works very well in keeping my imagination at bay. <<less

This book is amazing! I've been reading it since there was only 5 translated chapters and I've never once regretted it. It gives me nightmares sometimes, but that's fine. It makes me so happy to see the characters grow and I maybe celebrate Chen Ge's birthday but shhhhh! We don't talk about that! It's really just a good book! I recommend it to everyone IRL and I wan to recommend it to you guys too.

A TRUE HIDDEN GEM.

In sea of tr*sh and cheap writing there's exist something that's truly trying to present a 'story'. Horror might be the only places left for one to seek a neutral and fresh view from soo many weak ass or edge lord that's been plaguing the current trends.

It's an okay writing but has a great story and thick heavy plot, but still has the light subtlety in the form of system.

All in all, the current CN novel still worth reading

Lovely novel which I highly recommend.

If you want to lay back and read something that won't make your balls ache, this is the perfect novel.

Lots of creepy ghosts and some badass moments, there's even a yandere ghost waifu!

Not much else to say really but the novel easily earns a 5 star from me.

Lovely creepy tale. Honestly my crap review does no justice to how beautifully scary this story is. Well-crafted plot with smooth transitions throughout scenes, and amazing unforgettable characters.

I juggle many stories at a time and also have a crap memory when it comes to remembering names... so for me to remember an MC's name (yes, MC.. my memory sucks thaat much) is already quite an amazing feat, yet for this story I remember not only the lovely CRAZY and brave Chen Ge (MC) but also his little ghosts and companions...... more>> that's amazing, tbh.

also I got chillllllllls the whole time I was reading the first 50 chapters, like continuous non-stop hair raising moments. Literally the second my arm hairs get a break, the next moment some creepy scene pops up... ? too good I tell you, this story is TOO GOOD. Tho, I mean, now my hairs rarely stand up bc I think they're either too tired or just 'immune' to the creepiness. Or not. My hairs may be immune but... after I read the story, I don't dare to off the lights in my room myself!! My bed is 1 metre away from the switch but I'm just too terrified lol.

Learn from my experiences y'all. This book scary, but also scary addicting I can't stop reading. Am I an extreme M who loves torturing myself? I hope tf noT ? <<less

This novel got me hooked from the reviews and plot. I would have enjoyed it if the MC had atleast a chicken sized brain in his cranium, but he doesn't. As you start to enjoy and immerse yourself into the atmosphere, the MC's s*upidity just comes and drags it down in the mud.

As tension builds up and you're in high alert from the story, MC just comes and does the most s*upidest thing ever and you're left wondering why... for the rest of the whole arc. I wish his character... more>> improves in the future or atleast he's replaced. He's the one guy I would clap for his death, as long as his replacement isn't just like him.

Spoiler

I first found out about his intelligence in chapter one, where his phone lights up. Instead of normal thoughts like, it glitches or those Craigslist second hand phones that turn on themselves, he thinks it's either dark technology or supernatural phenomenon.

When he chooses nightmare mission at first, I can choke it up to ignorance, but after that, I just gave up. Knowing they are literal mu*derous ghosts hiding in his house, he opens the haunted house to the public. I'm sure that counts as attempted mu*der or manslaughter. Even when the first mirror incident happened, rather than removing and selling all the mirrors in the house and throwing the dolls in the freakin ocean. He decides to live with them and just put a cloth over the mirrors.

Why cant he just google exorcists near me or something to deal with all this? I can't root for him if he makes hot teenager decisions in a slasher horror movie. He can't be all Sherlock when solving cases but suddenly s*upid after he returns home.

[collapse]

I only hope he's running the haunted house to earn money and
Spoiler

find his parents

[collapse]
, not because he enjoys it. Otherwise, he already gon crazy. The thing I enjoyed are these missions where he moves outside and solves cases. That's probably the only reason I like it.

however the biggest pet peeve for me is not being scared. I can forgive the plot holes and bad character development moments but I can't read a horror novel and forgive not being scared. The movies are already not scary so I read this novel for a more immersive experience but got dissatisfied. I thought it would be as frightening as trafford's trading club. <<less

One of my favourite webnovel!

If you're looking for supernatural with a rare love story and mostly focused on affection between live & dead people, come~ come~

The good reasons why I give 5 stars and suggest you to follow this novel:

  • MC was not OP. He just knowed where to placed himself and being more a sensible human being.
  • There'a a characteristic development, including MC.
  • Detailed and well managed plot ~ although it was easily discovered the plot was less scarier due to some gov. Restriction, it was still good among webnovels.
  • No ridiculous harem

This novel is really good!!!

MC is not really op. Many times he almost lost his life if not for the help from his ghosts. The one who is op is his 'girlfriend' ghost xD. But his gf didnt always showup in every battle because of her hibernation time. Kuddos to the author to make her less op. This makes MC has to make other op ghost his ally and its not an easy journey.

MC himself is just quick witted, able to do the best he could do when he is... more>> in disadvantage situation.

Spoiler

this can be seen that he didnt always get 90% rate of success in every arc. Even in the coffin village arc, he only got 7% lol.

[collapse]

And also I really love his other ghosts employees >____<

Spoiler

I cant stop laughing when the 4 ghost doctors always scared the students from their univ until they fainted, and they wake up for another repeated scared then they fainted again. Until boss Chen comes to the rescue xD

I also love Tong Tong, the phone spirit. His story is really sad :' (

[collapse]

This novel gives you rides to emotional roller coaster. Scares, laughs, cries. You name it yourself. Totally recommended! <<less

Now this is for thrill seekers! Very well written to the point that I can imagine the events vividly. Kept me awake at nights too looking at the door nervously. I'd probably adopt a cat to keep me company.

I think it's goodhow the story starts off unique as it tries to combine system with horror. But isn't it concerning if the MC's personality drastically changes from the beginning without a really plausible reason...

Probably one of the best novels on this site. The characters are intelligent and likable. You have to have some suspension of disbelief, but it's far more realistic than any other novel on here. The main character has an actual reason for doing what he does, finding out why his parents disappeared and what happened to them. This story has surprised me time and time again with well-written characters and situations. The side characters are really good, I've been pleasantly surprised with how intelligent the smart characters are. No dumb... more>> mistakes here, characters who are smart actually notice details, and the main character observes the situation before acting.

An important thing to note is that the main character isn't strong, but he also isn't weak. He isn't a fool and always tries to defend himself first, but running is still an option. This isn't actually really 'horror' the story isn't scary, but it uses the pretense of being a 'horror' story to do clever things and throw us off track by not using common tropes. <<less

My house of horrors was, all things considered, quite mediocre. The novel was pretty boring, and there's zero sense of any genuine stakes over everything happening. It felt more like a horror comedy that tried to present itself seriously. I'm still confused by the large amount of comments praising it, and claiming it's a good horror read.

If you're looking for novels that give a genuine sense of foreboding, fear, and horror, then I'd recommend reading novels like Lord of the Mysteries, Shrouded seascape or similar novels.

If you like ghost stories, you'll like this. The haunted house is actually the weakest part of this novel, and the relevant chapters are short. The best, and longest, chapters are about Chen encountering spooky stuff. This is a great down-to-Earth System novel (the System is actually barely in this--you can remove it and not lose anything). A toymaker left his job to run a struggling haunted house in an amusement park, and has a month left before he finally has to shut down due to not making enough money.... more>> He finds a mysterious black phone one day, which gives him daily quests and hidden missions that let him upgrade his haunted house and hire ghosts to live in it. The typical formula goes: gets a quest, has to go do some spooky sh*t with his life on the line (such as staring into a mirror for 3 hours that slowly tries to steal his soul), and then he gets a reward upon completing it, which he uses to upgrade his haunted house attraction and scares a new batch of customers.

Although I think the chapters in which regular people visit his haunted house get kind of repetitive, the funniest parts of them are the terrifying Red Spectres having to work as Haunted House employees, and the visitors interacting with them while the living demons try to resist the urge to kill them.

It's a refreshing and fun read. No defying the Heavens, no fighting Outer Gods, just a guy running a silly haunted house while also trying not to get mu*dered by real ghosts or serial killers. The chapters that focus on the actual ghost stuff are pretty intense as well, they'd fit right in with a horror ghost-themed anthology. The comedy comes from Chen being an unflappable gigachad who basically smacks ghosts and tells them to knock it off (if they're a lesser ghost, things like Red Spectres he takes seriously).

My only complaint is the way Chen Ge runs his Haunted House. At the beginning, he makes a big deal about how cell phones aren't allowed in because of spies, etc. But later, he allows people to walk in livestreaming willy-nilly and lets people snoop around. It makes him come off as a real amateur. <<less

It was such a loooooonnggg novel and I enjoyed every second of it!

I've read some asian horror novels here and there. But this one can be considered my first one that delved into so much horror and gore with great plotline and comedic elements.

Chen Ge, the main character, inherited his parents' haunted house in a theme park that is running in losses. He left his job for this as it was the last memory of his parents who disappeared mysteriously halfway a year ago.

One day, he finds a black phone... more>> and the doll that he himself made during his childhood. The black phone started giving him missions to improve his haunted house and our main character takes it all in strides, no matter how dangerous these missions become over time.

There were also mystery elements that kept me on my toes at all times.

The underlying comedy gives a much needed relief in between the stressful action-packed arcs. I enjoyed every second of this.

The law enforcement of Jiujiang are really unlucky though. They should shutdown their hotlines and should just wait for Chen Ge's call🤣🤣🤣

I also loved the fact that the main character saw livestreaming as means to an end and it didn't take away attention from the storyline or the horror.

Chen Ge in his journey befriends many living and non-living entities. Some become his friend but most become his employee and his family.

This man is a walking magnet of specters and all things supernatural. Even his love interest...🤭🤭🤭

The romantic elements may not be much but the romance was romancing for sure. It was soooo sweet!

Xu Yin deserves a separate shoutout. He finally found his heart after being betrayed like that!

White Tiger is still that cheeky🤣🤣🤣

Thank God, Ol' Zhou and Duan Yue got together even in the afterlife.

Ol' Bai also found his place in the world.

Yan Danian was such a shy uncle that it was exasperating some times.

Men Nan is a tsundere through and through.

There is also Xiao Bu who finally got someone who would look out for her.

Even the Red High Heels was a phenomenal character.

I hope Fan Yu and Ying Tong will find happiness in their new family. Chen Ge will make sure of it!

Chen Ge's Doctor Skull Cracker's hammer deserve a mention separately. It also made me want to have one!

A great novel that makes me want to give more than five ⭐s only if I could. I absolutely loved it! <<less

5 out of 5 !!!

Don't let the weird premise put you off this story. It's more about ghost hunting (rescuing) and mysteries. Action and adventure. Exciting world filled with horrors and a dark hidden side. Our MC is smart and fearless. I laughed out loud when the MC chased the ghosts instead of the ghosts chasing him. It was funny at times but mostly a little heartbreaking. But it has a really good ending a happy one. It also has a little bit of romance and it's pretty sweet. This... more>> book is a horror and full of suspense so prepared to have your toes curl. Great plot with nice amounts of twists.

It's a great read and so give it a try. <<less
