Mu Xiaoya lived for twenty-six years before she knew that she had a sudden genetic disease. There was no medicine for it, and there was only death waiting for her.

Before she died, many people came to see her, but she was most impressed by Bai Chuan.

Bai Chuan was her neighbor, an autistic child with scholar’s syndrome. At that time, his face full of scars was desperate: “I – I studied all your medical records, but I have no way to save you.”

Mu Xiaoya was stunned: “You are a doctor?”

Bai Chuan: “I am not… …”

Mu Xiaoya’s disease was a genetic disease. Unless the gene was changed, there was no possibility of cure. However, Bai Chuan was the only person who tried to cure her after she fell ill.

Mu Xiaoya: “Why are you going to cure me?”

Bai Chuan: “I want to marry you.”

Mu Xiaoya laughed: “If you marry me, you will soon become a widower.”

Bai Chuan insisted: “I – I want to marry you.”

Bai Chuan, who has cognitive impairments, can’t express his meaning very well, and can only repeat it over and over again.

Later, Mu Xiaoya still died. When she woke up, she returned to the summer of her college graduation.

Bai Chuan: “I… I want to marry you.”

Mu Xiaoya: “Good.”

The starlight in the eyes of Bai Chuan was the most beautiful scenery that Mu Xiaoya had ever seen in her life.

There's just something so compelling about Grumpy Crab's story. It's very slice of life and... warms the c*ckles of my heart LOL

Aside from the accurate portrayals of autism, in its root is a story of a modern newlywed couple with an idyllic lifestyle. It's interestingly a mix of urban and rural customs and traditions that ultimately make the story interesting. The visits to the countryside and transitions to urban housing complexes and villas makes this story feel grounded, yet worldly, in covering people from all walks of life.

MUST READ!

i avoided reading this for such a long time because of a friend (I'm gonna cut ties with her after writing this review) told me that this novel made her cry every chapter and it's not worth it. I'm so glad I still read this anyway~

the flow of the story is perfect and the plot is elaborated in a great way, later I found out that the author is an author that I'm familiar with so it just made me appreciate this novel even more.

huhuhu I thought my fav ML type would be the overbearing/possessive rich CEO but turns out I'm a fool for this type of ML T-T xiao chuan really outsold and ate up all the other MLs... when he told xiaoya about how he waited for her in front of her school gate for a whole day and the two of them reenacted that day I really cried until my room was flooded #XiaoChuanWorldDomination

[collapse]

anyways, if anyone is like me and having second thoughts about reading this, just read it la. if perhaps it's not up to your taste then just drop it. it's a short novel with only 80+ chapters- what could go wrong?

i end my review with an appreciation for the excellent FL who is always patient with her husband. my homegirl is even a self-made businesswoman. <<less

I had to admit the story is really heart-warming and beautiful. It definitely purified my mind and humanity back *chuckles. Not much drama, but definitely worth your time. It had me hesitated quite a while since fluffiness hadn't been my cup of tea for awhile (maybe, I've been reading too much black bellied type of stories).

But, I was completely wrong. This worth a huge pack of tissues. The imperfections of the characters are what make the story perfect and it quite reflects reality. And it made me think a lot... more>> of myself too because the journey of all characters is the main gem of the story. Overall, the story wrapped up perfectly~

I'm definitely gonna miss the story and characters... <<less

the history is very warm and heartache, I already read two times and keep smiling in the same events and crying anothres. What really surprise me was the condition of Bai Chuan, isn't full showed but how he think and how he see the outsider world was amazing. After read for the first time I was willing in drawing some parts, but my skil are lacking. I hope for a movie, short, trailer, webtoon any visual work.

The plot is really interesting and the interaction between the characters are really fluffy and refreshing especially between bai chuan family. People start a novel with different expectations, I didn't want a novel that could realistically portray a person with autism, but I wanted a novel full of fluff that could heal my tired heart (´;ω;`)

This novel fulfilled all my wishes, as expected of Crab-sama (ෆˊ͈ ु꒳ ूˋ͈ෆ). Although how the different diseases were described disturbed me, My Husband With Scholar Syndrom was full of emotions. I cried, I laughed, my heart was filled with their love and my tummy was filled with their dog food... The fluff wasn't forced nor exagerated unlike in other novels, both protagonists are humans, full of qualities but also defects. A novel full of love ♡ (Important things must be repeated many times !)

Thousand thanks to the author and the translators... more>> for having delivered to us such a magnificient novel !

(There should be more fluffy novels like this one in the world !!!) <<less

just imagining Bai Chuan waiting for her all those years and she dies shortly after. Some might blame Xiaoya for forgetting about him but it's actually really realistic. She had her own life outside of him so it made sense, especially after she left for college.

[collapse]
I believe that she did love him in her previous life, but realistically, life just got in the way. Her rebirth was really a second chance for both of them. It was just a lot worse for Baichuan in the first life because his world only consisted of Xiaoya and Grandma (his parents and brother aside). Meanwhile, Xiaoya had her parents, friends, school and more. It's sad to think about it this way, but Xiaoya was a lot more important to Baichuan but you can't say the same for Xiaoya about Baichuan.

I don't know why but a lot of the Chinese romance novels I've read really like using the whole suffering in silence for love. I'm not complaining, just something I've noticed lately. Either way, another novel by Grumpy Cat in the books. Her novels are always so well balanced between sweet and angst. <<less

This is a heart-warming story with great leads. I love the personality of FL (one of the best MCs I ever read) and I also adore our beautifully flawed ML. They are so cute and fluffy together.

Every chapters of the novel touches/warms any reader's heart and every moments made me smile, teary and laugh.

At first, I'm doubting if the author will also treat autism as a disease that will be cured by love like some other novels that I read before... thankfully, the author obviously done some thorough research, despite some unrealistic actions of Bai Chuan portrayed and some moments wherein I feel that Bai family and Prof. Feng treated Mu Xiaoya as the "cure" of Xiao Chuan.... I think it still more believable than other novels before.

[collapse]

I love that all of the characters such as families, friends and co-workers are very supportive of this beautiful couple.

However, the flaw of this story is being anticlimactic in the last few chapters especially after discovery of Mu Xiaoya's disease and the rushed ending.

Thankfully, the extra chapters kinda fill up some of my disappointment of the rushed ending. <<less

My Husband with Scholar Syndrome – a Second Chance story

This story has something unique from most second chance stories. The MC did nothing wrong nor did she strongly desire revenge. It was more her time came to quick and she got what so many people would want a second chance, to change her life. For although she did nothing wrong, there were things she wished especially to change.

  • Her time with parents because as we all do, after we grow old we leave our nests, and only when it is too late do remember the importance of time with our parents.
  • Creating a business with her friend. Her past life she took the logical, the reasonable path, but in this one she decided to do what she wanted to do.
  • To give Bai Chuan, a chance. His simple love that can be seen as she is spending her last day in the world, touches her heart.
This story is not about fixing autistic people. It is about the bridge between the world most people see and a man with autism. It is about the simple, straightforward manner he has as he loves the woman.

This is a lovely slow romance.

I loved it, but I only rated it four, because I prefer more fluffiness and lightheartedness than found in this story.

I really enjoyed it. There were some parts that I just skipped, but for the most part, I couldn't stop laughing or crying. It was a sort of bittersweet experience. Though I still entirely suggest it for those who like the genre. The whole relationship between the main characters is the most adorable along with the interactions with the side characters, mostly the family members.

P.S. Don't skip the little theatres at the end of the chapters. They are great.

the extra 1 where it showed what happened to Ba Chuan after Xiaoya died. I didn't need to see that but I couldn't stop reading it. It hurt so much. The was this one person in the comments who always was like "i want Xiaoya to die to see how the ML and his family deals with it" NO, JUST NO. Especially asking her to die once they got even closer together, ugh just thinking about it hurts me. Then while reading the comments for the extra 1 chapter they were saying "what if all of this just the ML's dream" and "this happened to him in an alternate universe" MY POOR HEART CANT TAKE THAT STOP IT WHY DID I READ THE COMMENT JUST TO TORTURE MYSELF.

[collapse]

After this, I decided to take some time off of novels for a while and just engross myself in games for awhile. Except for that one thing, this entire novel was mainly fluffs, but nonetheless I never expected that one thing to cancel out all the sweetness in my heart. Great story, just beware of that chapter. (Put 5 stars by the way, my thumb just fat) <<less

This novel made me laugh and made me cry. There weren't any angst from 3rd parties and just pure fluff and slice of life. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and didn't mind losing some sleep to keep reading the next chapter. The two translators did an excellent job! There was no inconsistencies and the flow was the same. Congratulations to them!

I love the little extras that the author had at the end of some chapters and I am glad Xiao Ya had her second chance and Xiao Chuan managed to... more>> get Xiao Ya. <<less

I just wanna say. "I'm glad I decided to read this."

" I like it so f-kn much to the point my heart hurts, but in a good way, "

I'm definitely going back to this story for who knows how many times in the near future (that's how good it is- well, at least for me.)

contemplating whether you should read this? Yes, you should give it a try. Finished it within two days (with proper sleep)

Thanks for the translators-sama for the wonderful job! *Kowtows

The story was definitely heartwarming. It's worth reading y'all!!

The characters, specially Bai Chuan, were really so cute!! My interest in the development of the relationship of Bai Chuan (ML) and Mu Xiaoya (FL) really made me eagerly read and finish the novel. The translations were definitely smooth and easy to understand. Do give this simple and short story a shot! You won't regret it! :)

I love the story.

The characterizations are outstanding, the portrayal of autism is incredibly well done, the characters are interesting, quirky, fun, exiting... everyone is very realistic, I know people like them.

It's of the few times I have to say, I found nothing wrong with the technique or the pacing or anything regarding story writing.

... more>> It's simple, but simple AND competent is hard to come by, the author kept the reigns on the story from the start and at a steady pace achieved its goal.

I only have one small, tiny, minuscule complaint and it's regarding a plot device that would spoil the story and haves nothing to do with technique so I'll close it off in a locket and toss it to the sea while I write a different version of that part in my notebook. (yes, I'm a bit upset because one part of the story didn't develop as I thought it would... but it's fine, it's not "my" story, it's the authors story and it's fine)

I wish other authors didn't over complicate their stories, so simple, straightforward, steady

If you want to write, you don't need to flourish your story with complicated plot devices or building setups from a thousand chapters ago, sometimes simple characterizations and reactions are enough to tell a beautiful story, I would love for people that write to follow this example of a simple romance novel. <<less
