“My teammates are all protecting me, but I can solo kill all five opponents.”

Lin Xiao is the canary that Ji Shijin keeps by his side. He doesn’t have to do anything every day and has a bunch of gold cards to swipe casually. Not until Ji Shijin’s first love returns and he is kicked out of the house.

The homeless Lin Xiao stayed up in an Internet cafe for the night and was tricked into playing AD for a team with a box of instant noodles by a desperate manager.

At the beginning, everyone had low expectations for the canary. Who was a picky eater, needed to use milk for bathing, and had to go to bed at exactly nine o’clock.

Later, in a game, he achieved three pentakills. Causing numerous teams to fight over him, eager to recruit him at any cost.

The teammates gradually turned into licking dogs. Always protecting him during the game. Even the mid laner, who always went his own way, would personally help him buy milk and test the water temperature for him.

At first, Lin Xiao just wanted to live a better life, but unexpectedly, he became the favorite of the team and their main support. He didn’t let everyone down and led them to the World Championships.

When the former owner came to see him, Lin Xiao said, “I don’t want to be your canary anymore.”

Ji Shijin was still waiting for his canary to come back and admit his mistakes. But instead, he saw him open a live broadcast with a messy hairdo, looking like he hadn’t slept, and said to his fans with a sleepy face, “Hmm, I promise you guys, if I make it to the World Championship, I’ll do a cross-dressing live stream for a month.”

Seeing that the canary he cared for was “struggling” to make a living, Ji Shijin finally decided to forgive him.

Later, he arrived outside the team’s gate, hoping to take Lin Xiao home.

The mid laner holds him by his shoulders with a vigilant look. The support of the team stood in front of him, smiling. The jungler was eager to fight and crouch down. The top laner already had TP around the back. Lin Xiao, who still looked sleepy, said, “I’m sorry, they are used to protecting me.”

Ji Shijin, who was burning with anger, impulsively invested ten billion yuan to establish a new team. No one knew how much he regretted it. That night, he said something unpleasant to his canary: “You’re just a bird that I raised. Just behave yourself and listen to me. What’s the point of showing off?”

— self-reliance, self-improvement —

I want to express that I haven't fully read the novel, but I think I've read enough to make a review.

First off, the slow burn is real. It takes a while for MC and ML develop feelings with another, although there are instances where they are close and show progress, it's few and sprinkled in between. Based of the title you can assume the teammates or ML will be very protective of MC but from what I've read so far barely any of it happens from his teammates, there are... more>> times where they do protect/pamper MC but it's usually just the ML and the team's coach.

Plot wise it's very standard with the average cannonfodder, s*um boyfriend, and white moonlight character. They're not as bland as most characters, but they come off very s*upid and Illogical at times especially the white moonlight character. I feel as if the author could expand their motivations, but since this is the standard chinese story, of course the white moonlight hates MC, the s*um regrets his actions and the cannonfodder is jealous of MC.

Although I understand what the author was trying to do with MC given his backstory, I wish they made him develop even a bit of confidence early on cause halfway the MC still doesn't have the guts to reject the scum. I like the MC's character, and I'm not saying he should be this OP, badass, independent person that would just be OOC. I wished he had more development within the story. <<less

1/5 personal rating

3/5 general rating

The novel is okay. It has its own good points and bad points. But the vibes is really off for me on this one.

I wasn't happy while reading the story. I felt like there were a lot of other Semes that was a better choice than the OG ML. I tried, I really tried. If you know me, I love a good tsuntsun but there's just something about the whole story that makes me feel DISSATISFIED. And that's on all caps. 🤣
Spoiler

Or maybe it's just because the entire story felt like it's an open ending. THERE'S NO f*ckING CLOSURE TO ANYTHING. The s*upid canary guy was annoying from the start to the end. Very consistent. Leader He DESERVED BETTER. It felt like he was a spare tireeeee!! The childhood bully was a not-needed addition.

It gives the feeling that the author was planning on making this a harem but changed his mind at the end because the editor disagreed.

It's all over the place. Sometimes while reading, you're going to ask yourself "why the f*ck do we have to talk about that guy's backstory if you're just going to ignore it and leave it at that?" Or "oh, that guy's the bully. Backstory. Sorry? Can't remember me? Oh. I help u." It just made me scream Why??? What for???

Anyway, final comment is that it tastes like a cheaper knock-off version of the novel "I can do it." This is my first unhappy comment ever since I started reading novels in novelupdates.. So I guess that's a milestone? 🤣

Looking back and thinking about what I liked about the story then finding almost nothing is frustrating. I'm all for timid, naive and innocent MCs and tsuntsun MLs but the execution on this one.. Just makes me sigh..

Alot of detail game play which Iiked but very lackluster in the ending games. I don't know why but Es sport novel I am reading the ending games are so much easier and less detail compare to earlier.

MC is a cute blonde softy who has a mind of his own when he really wants to do something.

ML is an emo top player, vinegar eating husband, who has only emotions for MC. His really a tsundere

... more>> Both of them are really cute, falling in innocent love.

I love the team dynamics, they are all have different personalities.

The fans are really loveable in this novel.

The adoption master* really deserve it, there's no regret medicine, once you kicked MC out he was never coming back. I don't know where he gets the confidence. His emotional ab*se was s*upid. He was really not good for the novel. We can make MC get kicked out by evil family members instead.

This was really an esport novel that really involves the game, need some LOL knowledge to get some game terms and characters. <<less

Pretty good read. MC and ML both show growth as people and by the end, they've overcome their life struggles, so it feels good to see and they make a pretty healthy couple by then. The writing sometimes feels a little messy (?) and there is the usual Korea-hate at the end when it gets to the world championship (but not before, which is a definite plus), but it's to be expected in any Asian novel since they all tend to write hate for each other. The hate isn't intense... more>> or overdone (more like writing out that the Korean commentators are biased, or how the referee is biased, etc.), so it doesn't detract from the story.

Not a story I will purposely look for to read again, but definitely good for reading once. <<less

Dropped. Sorry but 3 chapters in and I'm already irritated by the MC. There's not been a backstory reveal yet, but I feel like as a legal adult you should already have some form of self awareness and basic life skills. He basically spent his life being pampered as a canary by the second lead who abandoned him as soon as his white moonlight returned. During his times as a canary, he was waited on hand and foot, resulting in him being a life idiot. On his first day at... more>> the base, he uses up all the ml's (I'm assuming) milk for his daily milk bath, and doesn't even bother to take accountability or apologise when the ML finds out. He gives very og-ml/ white lotus vibes. He's just so out of touch. I'm desperate though so I'll read on.

chap 25 is the start of Shen Xiaoxin's downfall, yay

ok this novel is too dragged out, I can't continue reading. Bai ye irritates me, he Ziyi worries me, and the ridiculous innocence of the MC frustrates me. Dropped at 144 <<less

There are things I want to say.

First, let's talk about the romance, between the main couple, it is clear enough. But young master Ji just makes me speechless.

Second, let's talk about the game. It was quite enjoyable but felt a little inconsistent at times. It was hard to measure the players' skill levels.

... more>> I think mainly the reason is poor execution. The story is not bad enjoyable even, the ending is also complete. But it just left me with a feeling of lacking something.

I am giving 4 stars purely because it brought some energy to me during a long boring week. <<less
