In hopes of someone picking up this series for translation... I'm so happy it has been picked up again! I really loved to read this and basically binged it the first time. Now I'm re-reading it to remind me what has happened before going to newer chapters and it is still highly entertaining even with second read.

Good build up for the story so far. As a person reading mostly fantasy novels I highly recommend this if you like this genre. I also like the romance and military theme in this... more>> particular story but the best part is definitely great interaction and bantering between characters that are likable.

It could have been great. Honestly it did. It was more of a story about a friend refusing to give up on his borderline braindead friend. Don't get me wrong, I loved the interactions between Ikta and Yatori, they were my favorite part of this novel. They played astoundingly well into each other, and nearly ever line of dialogue, every choice and action they made was in my opinion phenomenally done. As the story progresses it made me love the dynamic more and more, especially when it went back and... more>> showed how they met and gave more depth to the father and mother of Ikta, and showed more why he was fighting so hard to get Yatori away from a life of fighting and death, and even when after years of failing, he went against what he believed in and put aside his hatred of the Empire to try to keep her safe. Even the left/right thing was great, as it puts Ikta and Yatori in the catagory of "Special People", like Jean and Elulufay and her kids. Despite Ikta working so hard towards this goal, Yatori doesn't ever listen and makes the conscience decision to disregards his attempts to prevent her eventual pointless demise.
Spoiler

Ultimately he fails of course, in what I feel is a poorly done death, having a character who is shown to be able to deal with just about any threat when she was wielding her swords, drop them to get shot to death rather then NOT drop them and save him. Alternatively the sniper team mentioned a few sentences earlier maybe could've done something upon seeing people they don't know, from a area no one is supposed to be in, aiming at both the surrendering enemy commander and you immobile commander. Maybe I am wrong though, who knows, I haven't been in that position with my friends, maybe I too would just bust out the popcorn and watch too.

[collapse]
Following that my desire to keep reading dwindled to almost none, but I persevered, hoping maybe the author would save it. He almost did too, in I believe Volume 13 until he immediately dashed my hopes by saying how it would take thousands of years. All in all I can say that Volume 7 was the 2nd worst as far as horrid story goes, as it also features the consistent poor decisions of other characters leading to more pointless deaths, from people not surrendering for no real reason to the two factions fighting at all or how Yatori's father sic's her on Ikta despite the relationship they had or Ikta's role as a peacekeeper trying to keep the two factions from shattering the Empire, WHICH THEY UNDERSTOOD, or the fact that he was fully aware of how closely intertwined the two of them were, meaning from his perspective at best Ikta dies and his daughter is now just as broken as Ikta was, if not potentially worse. That was the outcome he wanted. His ideal plan. Even with all that, if the series had ended here, at Volume 7 I still would have given it at least 3 stars as it was great up until this point.

Unfortunately they introduced another character that throws a spanner into the works. The Third Princess, is a horrific character. She will go down as one of the worst characters I have ever had the misfortune of having to read about. Every time she was mentioned or said something I knew the next section would be a chore to read through, and I was generally correct. From her "goal" of "saving" the country by losing a war and getting as many people as she feasibly could killed, to her reign as empress being needlessly cruel, and her constant fight to refuse to grow as a character no matter what happened, it was pathetic. The fact that she had half the series dedicated to how much of a waste she is is frankly baffling. I don't think she had a high point once. Ever. Even from a intelligence side of things she is nearly sub-brick judging by how she handles things. She was surprised that people don't just trust her and the nobility, instead trusting the military, a fact she knew. She constantly put herself in danger causing others to get injured and more soldiers to die needless deaths. Even her big issue she has could be solved if she had the same intelligence a average child shows by recognizing that she is both not slightly over 900 years old, or that her and every single member of her family ever are not the same person.
Spoiler

Eventually she does have a single moment of conscience thought at the end of the series is volume 14, the worst volume of the lot, where she figures that out. Alas, it was too late and due to her being near the main characters so long they all slowly joined her in sub-brick intelligence levels, where Ikta decided rather then just dissolve the monarchy and rule as a parliament, that for some unknowable reason he must die for it to happen.

[collapse]

In the end, this series suffered from what I call the SAO effect, where the original premise was fantastic, and well executed, but due to either the Author adding a character that ruins it, or completely 180'ing on their original idea, dooming their series to mediocrity. This may have been popular, yes, but it could have been more popular, and left far fewer people like me, who are disappointed with where the novel went after such a strong start. <<less

A great story that tackles corruption, duty and relationships. This novel has plucked multiple heartstrings of mine. The author was able to produce a light yet detailed story-telling and gave it a bitter yet sweet ending. This novel is surely not for everyone. I would prolly recommend it mostly for young adults or older and more mature audience to appreciate the deeper meaning of every paragraphs in this story. It was a rollercoaster ride reading this story and I'm still in awe. I closed my eyes and meditated just so... more>> I could absorb all of this feelings I had after reading this novel. Good book, but not by cup of tea and cannot really recommend it as it make me depressed.

The highlights of the series are war, tragedy, and things that come along with them. Sure, there might be other thing but these two overshadow the rest. The tragedy is no joke so please proceed with caution.

Some opinion about the ending:

Looking at the ending, this is more of a story about a martyr rather than a lazy man.

Still a good book tho. Great plot and delivered really well. Still, if all you want is to do a good reading session with nice aftertaste, I would not normally recommend this. <<less

The Man Who Was Too Lazy To Fail Goes To War!

Vaguely Napoleonic in tactics, Indian in geography, fantasy by setting and drama by genre. This is one of the better light novels that I have read. The characters are well developed. Their motivatations are understandable. And the inevitability of human nature to make an absolute mess out of any given situation.

I'm really enjoying it, and the anime (available on crunchyroll) is highly entertaining as well.

I don't understand why this doesn't have Comedy in it's genre.

This is a great story of a "lazy" but brilliant MC & his annoyingly high motivated friends. It's not that He's unwilling to work hard, he just dislikes wasting effort on unnecessary things. He's smart enough to figure out a better way to accomplish a goal. Whether he has any personal interest in those objectives has little effect on his ability to achieve them in the most efficient way possible. Efficient also includes not wasting lives, but sometimes ruthlessly sacrificing... more>> them.

Usually while completely infuriating his superiors. I did mention ruthlessly sacrificing. Lol. <<less

I had a run in with some shitty novel lately so I judge this novel without concerning its contents and avoid it completely for years. But when pick this up I was astounded by the characters especially the heroin who claimed she would do anything for honor and for country even to extreme lengths.

And of course our lazy MC the sloth who sought the easy way out in tackling problems with logic and finesse rather than exerting yourself.

That all I can give with my poor English and review.

I'll keep this short and sweet. Alderamin on the Sky has already been praised plenty for its clever military tactics, deep political intrigue, and well-developed, realistic characters. Since not many people seem to be reading it anymore, writing a long review feels unnecessary and I'll only be talking about the ending.

There's one thing I really want to say: this novel deserved so much more recognition. I think a lot of people gave up on it because it got too emotionally heavy after Yatori's death. I can understand how they must... more>> have felt, but I think she died in the best way imaginable given how tragic and depressing her story is in this (like most characters). The story does take a much darker turn in the events afterwards, but you gradually understand that this sequence of events was inevitable given what's been happening in the background this whole time. The story really drives home the brutality of war, and how people are forcibly pushed into roles outside of their own choosing which leads to severe consequences. Just a warning, but suicidal thoughts are a very common recurring theme addressed in this series which I assume can be triggering for many. There are also large forms of physical torture present.

If you dropped it because of Yatori's death, I strongly recommend giving it another chance. The ending might be bittersweet, but it's also incredibly fitting and satisfying for everyone involved—especially Chamille, Yatori, and Ikta. The writing quality never deteriorates, and everything is still brilliantly written to be vivid and drive home the larger moments. In the end, I was also extremely happy that Ikta and Yatori

finally get the peace they deserved, free from war and military politics, which was what Ikta always wanted.

[collapse]

Chamille's character really stands out, too. After Yatori's death, her story took the series to a whole new level. It's only then that we see just how broken she is, carrying the weight of her past and the empire's future on her shoulders. It's clear the author designed the novel, fully intending to make her character it's very origin point from the moment Chamille and Ikta shook hands.

Spoilers about Chamille and Ikta:

Spoiler

Chamille's family completely crushed any hope or innocence she might've had. Her willingness to sacrifice herself for her ideals is both tragic and inspiring. What really got me, though, was how Ikta helped her—not through romance, but through genuine care, support, and emotional connection. Watching him try to bring back her lost childhood in his own way was honestly one of the most touching things I've ever read.

And then there's Ikta's hidden hatred for the empire, something the story hints at all along. In the end, that's what drives him to make the ultimate sacrifice instead of letting Chamille do it. He gives her the chance to rebuild the empire with hope, while accepting his own fate. It's such a powerful, unforgettable ending that still sticks with me.

A good read. All characters are very detailed including but not limited to the past and mental health. No side characters are discarded as irrelevant and are always going through their own story even if in background. You might find 1 or 2 Plotholes while reading the story, but trust me everything is clarified near the end of the story. Overall I would say great novel and good plot. The MC is not over powered in anyway but is still able to handle most situations with his wits and intelligence.... more>> I would say this story is leaning towards sci-fi more instead of fantasy. <<less

This is a series for those who try to find the meaning of friendship, hierarchy, family, rivalry, and love, then one last thing which is I hate to mention as a globalist is patriotism, and everything signifies human interactions. Even if you don't get a clear picture of those which was mentioned, you will definitely take few other things from this title.

One more thing which interests me is that Ikta Solork and Igsem lineage are polar opposites. Only in this series I have no character to dislike at all, might... more>> be the first and the last, but who knows. <<less
