Not the Female Lead, But An Extra

“I’m definitely quitting this job! I’m going to resign and run away!”

Exploited here and there as a pawn because of my special purification abilities, I died a tragic death, and then I was reincarnated as Seraphina, an extra character in the male leads’ flashbacks.

It’s unfair to die after wandering around battlefields, and to be quickly forgotten as soon as the female lead appears.

“Do you think my words are a joke? How long has it been since I called you, and you’re only showing up now?”

Hey, guardian of the north.

I just ran here from another battlefield without a single day of rest, you know?

“How disloyal. It is your duty to protect the imperial family.”

How can I protect you!

You’re stronger than me, you damned emperor!

“Your obedience in serving the call of God is beautiful. Now, shall we continue?”

And you call yourself the captain of the Holy Knight Order?

You’re just a bad XX who exploits labor. Boohoo.

I prepared carefully and seized the opportunity to run away, and finally succeeded.

Yay, hooray!

I’m free!

……Or am I?

This is a good, solid transmigrator-saves-the-world story. Expect it as that and you'll enjoy the ride. I like how they tie up the loose ends with the original Seraphina, which is something we don't see often enough, and also how they make apparent that there is a LOT going on that was never covered in the original novel.

Who was the person who found her in the prologue?

... more>>
Spoiler

It was Claude who found her on the beach, but this distinction is ultimately meaningless since Johan AND Mikhail are also about to come upon them, too. Cyril, the fourth male lead, was the one hiding her and already knew she was here. So, while the prologue makes it sound like a single person discovered her, all dramatic-like, by that point all four of them know where she is and are nearby.

The cover image is actually of her wearing one of her own dresses that she sewed herself, while enjoying fruit and sangria (which she did with Cyril) while in hiding to avoid her destined death, shortly before the scene from the prologue.

[collapse]

The relationships with the four male leads (and at least one sub-lead) are all sorted out by the end of the story, and there's even a light explanation at the end for why they were all drawn to her.

Spoiler

She's not just a purifier. She's a Divine Purifier. Only one is born in every era. Her power is especially pure and makes an impression upon everyone who sees it. Even her lightest spells radiate a special glow. When used without restraint, she can also heal, at the cost of her own life force. That's why she faints.

The OGFL was -not- a Divine Purifier which makes me think that the original novel was actually a tragedy. The OGFL is just a strong, garden-variety purifier who occasionally over-uses her powers. We never find out for sure what the original ending was since the FL never finished reading it before she started changing the storyline.

[collapse]

I haven't read the side stories, but it looks like there are some epilogues and "what-if" stories for if she chose another male lead.

Fun quote from near the end:

Spoiler

No matter how much I had excelled as a purifier, I recalled Countess Adria's advice that nobles lived in a different ecosystem.

<Those who look down on you will be the majority because you come from commoner origins. You must suppress them.>

<How?>

<Smile elegantly.>

<Is that enough?>

<You must not be intimidated by their condescending gazes. If it's too difficult, just think of them as undead.>

[collapse]

Does she tell anyone she is a transmigrator?

Spoiler

Yes. At least in the main story, she tells her chosen male lead, Emperor Johan, when he formally proposes to her at the very end. He accepts it all and acts as if some mysteries had been solved.

[collapse]

PS: I started reading this on DuskBlossoms, and the translation was solid, but I ended up translating most of the novel myself so I could read it faster. So, if you want to wait for their translation, it's definitely worth it. <<less

Yes, the novel was written to invoke humor. However, the author had to make the MC with low emotional IQ, lacking street smarts, and a simpleton to create this comedy. Realistically, war requires soldiers to be trained and the MC response to the ML strive to make her a survivor is supposed to be funny and be where sweet irrational feelings develop. I did laugh but it also drove me nuts how dumb they were being. ML emperor is rather thoughtless when MC is around. He doesn't understand his affections... more>> for her and becomes a drill sergeant overworking her. Other MLs seem smarter and more like able.

Spoiler

MC transmigrated because she admired a minor character's salary in the novel she read. The MC had a hidden purification skill in her prior life and was a janitor. The original extra was a shy, timid, and frail girl. MC decides to follow the vaguely written role of the character extra in the novel which is to go to war against undead, die, and become a constant memory as a less than capable purifier who the ML's compare against the FL. The FL is suppose to be more talented purifier and the heroine in original story. But of course, MC plans to fake her death and run away. Because MC is far more passionate (can't hide her emotions), hardworking (overzealous), and dumber (misleading men with gifts and spending time with them) than the original extra, the result is the plot diverging.
