It was a good read and the author at least made some good explanation for the mpreg for beta. I usually hate ABO story because it's not about love but just s*xual attraction through pheromones, which mean that alpha desire and have s*x with any omega who go into heat and omega crave a rod when in heat so there's almost no love in most ABO but this author argue the opposite.

I do feel bad for ML parents but I sided with his beta father because he made the most... more>> logical decision to leave ML alpha father at the time.

In regard to the step-brother r*ping the ML which resulted in Song Mo, if I understand it correctly, ML did not have s*x with the step-brother but ML s**en was used to imp**gnate the step-brother. ML said that he was sedated and shocked by electric which most likely refer to a method done when men donate s*erm at hospital in which an electric shock was used on the man certain body part to induce involuntary or**sm to collect the s*erm/s**en for imp**gnation. ML also said because of being sedated, he did not marked the step-brother. With these information, I am pretty sure ML was 'r*ped' by the electric shock and no actual s*x happen between him and the step-brother. I find the step-brother and his parents to be morally disgusting for doing that to ML though and had no remorse on any of their deaths. <<less

It's a good read, it's one of those books that sucks you in till the end. I'll call it a angsty sweet dog-blood drama. There were many parts that are so heartbreaking but the sweet ending was worth it.

I'm addicted to this novel, even manhua. I was clinging to the plot little by little, I was very angry with the alpha, but in the end it pays off. I even had to read it on wattpad in spanish, I was so anxious.

I really like the author but this is definitely not the best HNQ's book. It doesn't have as well good translation, it is kind MTL.

It is a bit strange wife chasing in the crematorium. It is cliche but because of author's tendency to create complex character I started to think that maybe roles here should be reversed. Both MC and ML were victims in the past and bad blood wasn't really caused by them.

Still MC is really frustrating what it is explained by both his upbringing and his social standing... more>> (beta). He kind reminds me of Anne Elliot from Persuasion. But while Anne with her life's experience matured and developed, I can't say that really about MC. ML is definitely character with many flaws but for me he was the only one who fought for this relationship and tried to work on himself to somehow build something with MC. He also actually helped him to recover mentally. Meanwhile MC cares about his step son
Spoiler

but at the end he as well left him

but he was almost completely passive in their marriage and silent about his past. To this extent that for long it was hard to tell what exactly he feels for ML while it was pretty obvious that ML loves MC. Like he tried to excuse himself that he did that because of their different status, circumstances and that he is beta. But in my opinion he was just afraid to try to challenge world again although life gave him second chance. There were also quite a lot s*upid misunderstandings between them.

I don't all have problem with MC with flaws (on contrary). But taking into account of genre and psychologically realistic characters, I just think that some readers can get bad moral lesson from this story. To create good relationship you need both sides effort. You can't be passive and wait for miracle. <<less

I was debating between giving 2-3 stars. The story is not great but also not terrible. I persisted until chapter 59, which is more than half the novel, because of all the great reviews here. I was disappointed.

So far there has been zero honest conversation between the MC and ML and the few they had are still based on misunderstandings.

Chemistry between MC and ML: none From the MC’s memories, while they were in high school, it shows the ML interested in the MC. However, the MC never liked the ML... more>> not even now? This is what I consider the first major flaw of the story.

Plot: interesting take on the ABO world but lacks creativity over major events such as the big misunderstanding that started it all and how randomly the ML finds out the truth.

Spoiler and rant:

Spoiler

the MC leaves his diary at his old apartment when he decides to leave ML. However, said diary was supposed to be so important to him (he has been carrying for seven years) and just left it like that? A diary is not something big nor heavy to take so in my opinion it felt like the author ran out of ideas here

[collapse]

Just like another commenter mentioned here, I found the MC’s mother the most interesting character in this whole novel. She’s a Beta and does whatever she needs to do to survive in a world where their kind is looked down upon. Some may say she was a bad mom to MC but I disagree. She didn’t abandon MC and although he suffered in the prestigious school, it was also an opportunity for him to learn from the best.

Overall, I gave up because I think there are so many better novels that I would rather spend my time on. <<less

Having some mercy and rating it a 3 out of 5 stars with indulgence.

Initially I dropped it quite early on, but I was still thinking about it days later, so I picked it up again and spent my days reading as much as possible, whenever I could.

It was a bit of a disappointment (the quality lowered as I kept reading), but not a huge one.

To start with:

  • novel was decent, okay to pass the time with if you don't expect a lot or don't have high standards;
  • I liked the ML a lot (personally I found him as the most pitiful character) and I think both main characters were quite well thought out;
  • the angst is not too bad, but there are several instances written about that might be upsetting for some readers to read about (eg. Physical ab*se, forced abortion, r*pe, forced marking/breeding, etc.) ;
  • the past and present blend in quite well and the little passages from MC's diary at the start of each chapter are quite lovely;
  • the story can be confusing at first, you might not understand why something is happening or who is related to whom, but it does get quite clear eventually and, towards the second half of the story, you are able to follow everything a lot easier.
Other thoughts that I would rather put below to not turn people off from reading this:

Spoiler

I found the story, as I mentioned, just decent. I think the author could have done a lot more with the story and its characters, but they only shallowly wrote about everything that happened and is happening.

Things fell into place "too perfectely" and easy it felt like at times.

No satisfaction from people getting what they deserved.

Characters left unpunished.

No sense of urgency or something being at stake.

MC was actually not bad at all, but he did nothing the entire story. Everything was just handed to him.

I wish we didn't get so many peoples' stories and relationship shoved in. Make extras for them, not that hard. I, personally, felt like I read more about other peoples' romantic entanglements than the main leads.

Would have been great if we had some separate chapters just for specific characters that clearly were more complex than the main character, for example his mother. We could have had a chapter dedicated to her past, since she was more interesting than 99% of the characters shown.

To add to the previous point, too many characters that added nothing to the story. A bunch were thrown at the very end too.

I think the author got tired of their story towards the finale. The extras hint at MC's father and I wonder if that was even needed? Because it goes as quickly as it comes.

The beginning had a lot of momentum, but then it's lost quite fast. And I don't think it's because the author has no talent in writing or setting a plot, so it's really a shame.

As I mentioned in the very beginning of this review, I could not wait to finish the story, not because I loved it and was excited to see how it ends, but because I felt like I already exhausted a lot of my time and emotions reading it and I simply wanted to mark it as completed and forget about it.

I would not recommend this to anyone to read and the why behind this is very easy: there are many other stories way better written out there. And far less lazy plot settings.

I feel a bit sad to see this novel, that seemed to have a potential for at least a 4-star rating, struggle to stay a 3 if rounded up. I wonder why people like this novel so much, considering its many flaws.

If people read this and hate it, I would completely understand why. Haven't seen many or any negative reviews about it, but I wonder if people were hesitant to write one and become one of the "bad apples" in the sea of all those reviews praising this novel to Heavens and back.

I wish the author focused more on the main leads, their past and present. Describe more of their interactions and thoughts. Only towards the very end they communicate properly and explain some of their thoughts, which I feel like it's quite late.

The story also goes through a bunch of ups and downs in quick succession that doesn't let you breathe for long, but, ultimately, nothing has a true sense of danger or pain or remorse or whatever else. S*it happens just for the sake of it happening and to kick the plot into a faster progression.

To continue my previous point ^ I bet the person that wrote it was thinking about how they want the bare bones of the plot to be like and as they started writing, they didn't have any idea on how to actually get from point A to point B, so they included every cliche possible, wrote about a bunch of downs in a dramatic way, and hoped that's enough to give justification for the characters' behaviors and to transition to the scenes they clearly wanted to write a lot more (you can clearly feel and see the difference of how much thought was put into some scenes versus others, I will not specify which ones are clearly lacking but it's obvious if you read the novel).

[collapse]

Had a lot more to say, but I don't want to waste more of my time on this.

My final rating, if you had read the previous spoiler, is rounded up. From what initial score, I shall not say. Don't think this novel is that terrible or brainless to crap all about it or write a proper scathing review to push people into not reading it.

Unlike what other people have said, this novel is simply mediocre. You will not lose much by reading it, not gain much by reading it either. <<less

I thought this was fantastic. A little trope-y, however all of the motivations and reactions felt pretty realistic given the world that the author has created. I don’t condone the ML’s behavior, but given the circumstances, I understand it. I don’t think he was irredeemable and them making up didn’t feel rushed given the way their marriage was going, in my opinion. One of my favorite ABO stories. I tried reading the manhua but the character design didn’t match what I had in my head while reading the novel (I... more>> read the novel first), so I prefer the novel. <<less

Whooohh! This story hurts my heart at the beginning but fills it with love towards the end.

ML is a scum, but I kinda understand why because there's too much misunderstanding going on between him and the MC. The MC... Gave up clearing those misunderstandings so it kinda complicates everything. But the story is good! If you want to, like, hurt your heart sometimes (lol), I recommend this.

The MC's mother is... Fcked up. I don't know how to describe her. Her way of thinking is really different, in another angle, it... more>> is quite okay but most of the time, it is not.

The ML's father is the real jerk here. I hate him from the beginning until the end—well, slightly at the end because he doesn't appear that often anymore. And he's a good politician, actually. Just... Not a good father.

All in all, this is a good story if you want some dog blood drama. Lol. <<less

this is one of my fav hui nanque novel.

anyway I realized despite marked complete, both version of translation lacked at least two extras:
Spoiler

one is when ning yu delivering cakes to song bolao's office and met a racist on the way and about song ningxi's school essay. Also about xiao family got angry and confront song bolao on his office and mocked dad and son bewitched by beta? Or is that included in delivery extra chapter or other extra?

I wouldn't call this story 5-star worthy, but I am still giving it 5 stars because they even reached a happy ending.

This is such a tragic novel. Both MC and ML were really sorry and sad characters that deserved happiness. Although the ML was a bit of a s*um gong he became a not-really-bad person at the end. Though I don't think that they truly loved in the end. Instead, to me, it felt more like they just understood each other and treated each other as their closest people. The... more>> only ones that they could trust you know. That's why they remain together in the end.

Spoiler

Even having a second child

[collapse]

Oh, by the way, I hate both the ML's Parents and the MC's mother.

The Ml's parents

They don't deserve to be called parents. The Ml's beta dad just decided to leave his alpha husband and child behind because he thought it was the right decision. Like how can you even think like that and not even share your thoughts with your partner? Of course, Ml's alpha father though he abandoned him and his child when he left just like that. Though the alpha is not really good either. He literally beats the ML physically so many times in the novel cause he didn't act the way he wanted. He didn't even feel bad for it or anything.

MC's Mother

Spoiler

She might be a tragic character herself in her story but that ain't an excuse to treat her child the way she did. After finding out that her child was pregnant, she just slaps him on the face instead of asking what happened. Takes him to get an abortion which the MC greatly rejects and never cares for him. It was just so anger-inducing. Even after years, she fakes that she has the MC's child and that back she never actually killed to force the MC to marry the ML. The MC hoped so much for this to be true. It's just sad.

Ahhh ><

I know that I'm not good with this kind of story but, , I'm glad I read it till the end (*´▽`) ノ

Though the misunderstanding in the past is saddening ╥﹏╥,

I love how they can somehow mend their relationship slowly, without forcing the other.

I didn't expect that the child will be violent and meek at the same time, following both father. But it's cute ≧﹏≦

i have a lot of gripe with this novel.... more>>
Spoiler

I feel like the relationship between ML's parents is so wrong and the fact that his father suffered absolutely NO consequence for basically helping his own son be r*ped is unforgivable.. And how ML's beta father just easily forgive him like that is gross. Speaking of ML's beta father- I think he is pathetic and cowardly. Honestly, in the entire novel, the biggest victim is the ML. Not only did he get abandoned by BOTH of his parents, he was also r*ped by his step-brother who was "dying" (i do not feel bad at all) and was forced to take care of the son that came out of it. Also what is up with the stepfather sending that video to the ML? To make him feel guilty? So he would forgive him? Disgusting.

[collapse]

even through all of that, I still can't get myself to rate this novel any lower. Just be cautious, get ready to grit your teeth in anger. <<less

I give this 4 stars because Song BoLao was a pain in the bu*t and half of this could have been solved if he didn't keep jumping to conclusions. I really love NingYu as a character. He's been through tragedy and he still finds compassion for others. He hasn't been completely broken despite everything. Well, this was depressing to read. I feel sorry for the characters; so much of their suffering was caused by endless misunderstandings piling one on top of another.

The ML does offer a heartfelt grovel, but the terrible events that happened weren’t entirely his fault. Yes, he was cruel at times, but his actions had a reason behind them. He wasn’t just awful for no purpose, and honestly, if I were betrayed and deceived the way he was, I might have reacted the same way. That’s why, even though the grovel... more>> was well-written, it didn’t bring me much comfort. By the end, all I wanted was for the characters to finally stop suffering and just be okay.

It does have a happy ending, but I still feel sad. Maybe I need to avoid ABO danmeis moving forward, I haven’t come across one I genuinely liked yet

This is a good story when you are hungry for a good novel to invest your time. Not the best but it is still acceptable. Its a HE. MC seems weak but he is always trying his best. ML is also not that red flag.

flash back is also not boring-the very short part of flash back are added in the beginning of the main chapters. Since I normally don't like the 10 whole chapters of flash back, I enjoyed this kind of writing.

I'm rounding up and being generous because I want to pull up the rating a little. It's really more like 4.5 ish? Someone recommended this if you wanted a dog blood ABO story and that hits that spot.

Spoiler

MC is an unreliable narrator so I'm unclear if he was serious when he said he never liked the ML when asked but was in fact lying to himself. At some level his feeling of bringing desserts/baked goods everyday is contrasted with that action - do you always bring baked goods to someone you don't actually like even if you claim it's a "payment" fee? It does hit the spot of angst though - I cried about the pot of flowers and how misunderstood and defeated the MC was. We never get an explanation of why/how the ML decides to marry the MC after 7 years especially when he hasn't forgiven MC. I was expecting some exposition on how he took the opportunity and that he still thought of him regardless in the 7 years they didn't meet. So I don't know why the ML decided to go and fall in love again with MC, it does seem he liked him during the school years and was just appalled disappointed when the exercise room situation happened.

[collapse]
I know people complain that the MC might be too passive but I feel that's more realistic than being strong - what can you do when the world is against you? Save your breathe and do what you can do. <<less

Surprisingly liked this a lot. I came to read the rest after the manhua ended too abruptly. This story had a lot of angst I personally believe happened to BOTH the ML and MC.

Spoiler

ML was basically forced to have s*x THREE times by the same type of scheme. He was locked in a room with someone and induced into heat. They used tranquilizers and many other things the first time and the goals of those evil people were successful as Song Mo was born from it. The second time was zhu li locking ML and MC in a room together. The 3rd time was a new marriage candidate but ML successfully got away by getting rid of his own glands. So after the first two times I do understand ML's own trauma after being forced to do it with others so many times. Because of it, his trust was so low.

MC's suffering was self-explanatory since that's what the POV of the story was set in so it shows what he's been through.

The one thing is that the villains don't seem to get much satisfying punishment. At most, MC's mom just ended up married to a dude who was failing in his business due to ML's family. Zhu Li was a marked omega who got pregnant and was being investigated by police. But there was no further update as to if he really got punishment. He was very relaxed the entire time and felt like everything went according to his plans anyway. The ones who put ML in that room locked up, at most got a lecture and was pressured by intimidation from another family member and ML's dad. ML's dad in a way was considered a villain since he also didn't protest when ML was first forced the first time as well as when beating ML. But I guess he somewhat got redeemed since he helped the last time when ML was locked up and protested this time, as well as doted on his grandchildren.

On the plus side, the ending parts was mostly sweet. Though I don't think there was a true chasing arc or redemption arc in my opinion. But due to the misunderstandings and trauma of both I didn't blame them. The MC mainly stayed with the ML cause he was pregnant again and was diagnosed with an illness believing he only had limited time so he just let himself be taken care of by ML. Thus ML was real nice and took care of him. That's how it naturally happened where they got closer.
