Kim Dokja does not consider himself the protagonist of his own life. Befitting the name his parents gave him, he is a solitary person whose sole hobby is reading web novels. For over a decade, he has lived vicariously through Yu Junghyeok, the main character of the web novel Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse (TWSA).

Through Junghyeok, Dokja has experienced secondhand the trials of repeatedly regressing in time, in search of an end to life-threatening “scenarios” that force people to act out narratives for the amusement of god-like “Constellations.”

After reading 3,149 chapters—long after all other readers lost interest—Dokja finally resigns himself to the story ending. However, he receives an enigmatic message from the author, stating that the story will soon be monetized, before his surroundings suddenly go dark.

He swiftly realizes that fiction has become reality and he is now living through TWSA. Although he is the singular omniscient reader of the events yet to come, his success in the scenarios is not guaranteed—but perhaps his advantage will empower him to step into the protagonist role that never suited him before.

I have to say for a 551 chapters I actually for the first time read till the end without stopping. Even went sleepless at one point.

It's such a rich story. You have fantasy, action, bonds, some cool twist, and yes there are plotting armors but there's still something very pulling about it.

Each characters don't just there for the sake of stereotypes but they become a part of the story.

And sure there are cliches but which stories doesn't? The authors (married couple) did a great job in making everything vibrant in... more>> the story progression and characters.

Though arguably it is kinda hard to understand at the reveal of the climax since there's a lot going on. I thoroughly enjoy it.

Minor spoiler, there's two main focus characters at the beginning. The MC (reader) and the OriMC (the character). MC along with everyone in the planet got dragged into a story scenario. From there the MC somehow manage to get through. He had some allies and eventually aggro the OriMC. OriMC appear as the most anti-hero protagonist while the MC is like a selfless protagonist but only to a degree. A huge mystery involves on why the world is as it is and who is responsible behind it.

MC isn't strong like the OriMC in fact he chose to choose the hard road just to get what he desired. I really like how far he became and the bonds he created. The whole story is like a story within a story I find it fascinating.

I highly recommend this. <<less

This story is a absolute masterpiece, even though this novel has no romance nor harem I'm pretty sure this novel is one of the best novel I've red since 2018 (the day I started reading novels).

Wow. I just finished the novel and there is a lot to unpack and deconstruct. I feel like this novel was written for a web novel-obsessed reader like me and I could practically pretend to be one of the constellations watching the story unfold. In short, if you feel some sort of connection to the MC then you will like it.

The slow realization that the novel's genre is actually ... more>>

makes me appreciate the entirety of the novel even more.

One thing I didn't like was the over-abundance of Korean constellations and myths. I get it, it's written in Korean and a lot of Korean web novels promote nationalism. But it didn't make things less confusing when references came up. As a westerner there is a cultural gap. <<less

for me, it is one of the best apocalypse stories written out there. Some pros: 1) the MC isnt invincible, he isnt op like MCs in other stories, he was a reader at first, and he doesnt have talent for learning skills. He grows his strength gradually. 2) content is very deep. Talks about psychological stuff. It's a pity that some readers dont understand. 3) it's admirable how much effort the author must have spent on organizing all the info. There arent any plotholes that I can see, which is... more>> great for such a long novel. 4) the story keeps you captivated, im on 330 or so chapters, and I have not thought of abandoning this novel. The author hides some information, which makes me want to continue reading in order to find out more.

you def wont regret reading this. It's a 100/10 in my book.

p.s. There is a webtoon being made for it. I came from there lmao. <<less

This novel really surprised me. I came from the manhwa which was really fun, and was sincerely surprised by the depth and realism this novel had despite the fantasy genre. The characters are all very engaging including our protagonist, and they feel very tenderly built. As a female reader, I pay especial attention to how female characters are built, and I can guarantee all the females we've met in the novel feel like real people with real emotions and flaws, compared to simple beauty queens with a one-trick personality. There... more>> are also very few simple villains too get bored from, and anyone that verges on this trope is handled very quickly. This author knows what good pacing is. I've read a lot of novels in this genre and can still sincerely say this is my new all time favorite for the genre. Well done, I say, to the author and translator. <<less

For an online webnovel, this novel is pretty good for your time. I have read up to chapter 100+ and so far the story is exciting and somewhat unique. Just like how Korean fantasy webnovels loves themes where a game like disasters fall upon earth, this is somewhat like that as well. If you have read TOCF and SCOG and you are finding a similar kind of novel, you have come to the right novel. Similar to TOCF, where the MC really isn't the MC, and the MC goes around... more>> and collects team members from his "future knowledge". The story keeps a continuous sense of tension that other op one shot stories fail to have, however, the biggest problem that I have against this novel, as well as the majority of Korean novels (except for SCOG) is that it's blatant "hate" towards japan. As a Filipino who was colonized by japan for 3 years, I understand that the Japan of the past can be considered as evil, however, it's quite annoying how Korean webnovels continue to portray Japan as a cesspool of evil fascists over and over again. There are also some plot holes in this novel, however you would only realize it if you are nitpicky. <<less

never would I have imagined the 3 main characters to be Kim Dokja, Yoo Joonghyuk and Han Sooyoung. Freaking end resulting in the cause and all ;_; when I read the ending I felt so helpless and greedy for a more perfect end. And then after finishing the epilogue I realised I became too greedy. However after thinking and thinking and reading peoples' interpretation of the epilogue, I finally realised that the epilogue gave us the most Happily Ever After. I (or the other Dokjas in the worlds) will be the Most Ancient Dream that makes up the 1% of Kim Dokja, dreaming of his revival and then happiness in an epilogue that continues being written forever.

also a sidenote, I sincerely believe that only those who reached the ending and then the epilogue of this novel are allowed to fully judge it. If you stopped halfway, you have no rights. <<less

This is my first time writing a review. I came across this novel by some fanart I've seen on pinterest. I pushed it aside because I read bad review about this novel Months ago. But I’ve decided to read it a week ago. I regret that I didn’t read it sooner. This is my most favorite novel so far. At first I didn’t like it that much, it started with A cliche scenario. All I can say, is that this story goes beyond the cliche overpowered story, has serious character development, has crazy plot twists, and redefines the relationships between an author, a character, and a reader. As someone who stuck through this till the end, I highly recommend it!

I really enjoyed this story, it was very entertaining and a good combo of humor and seriousness. Sometimes the MC can feel a bit OP and some side characters weren't really fleshed out and would sometimes surprise you with a "you where there the entire time?" feeling. Though the stronger side characters are really strong and truly leaves an impact on you, esp in the later chapters. My major critique is that the last 50 chapters felt a bit like they overstayed their welcome? I did really like the rest... more>> of the story though. <<less

It's a long arduous read. The story was unique and I can really see the author's effort, but I think its a bit overrated.

I found the setting interesting but it could've been better honestly. It has its good parts and bad parts I guess. One thing I like though is the side characters having a life of their own, they're not just a brainless character put in the story to make it continue.

I can't really blame some people for not liking this novel cuz it gets too bland sometimes.

Characters: 4.5/5

Plot: 4/5

Interactions: 4/5

Action: 3/5 (I don't really like the battles in this novel that much, its a bit too bland for my taste.)

Overall: 3.7 round it off to 4. So 4/5

The story is good but still have flaws, but a ? Percent recommended for me. <<less

This novel is a very long journey, and that's the most meaningful story. I also really love the characters and their friendship. The plot is great, each scenario is new, it's full of funny and sad moments, it's never boring.

It gets very meta towards the end and I also cried a lot. It made me reflect about my love for novels and I have to say I'm grateful for all the authors out there who let me live a much richer life than one without their stories. Thank you!

Overall I... more>> love this novel, it's one of the very few who manages to make sense even when things makes no sense (you'll understand it if you read it). I recommend it if you want something new but that still remains warmly familiar.

PS: I don't recommend starting it if you have to study for exams as you'll inevitably end up binge reading it and lose sleep and days until you finish it. <<less

I just wanted to advise new readers to disregard the opinions of those who have read less than 100 chapters of the book and think the author writes as he goes with no coherent plot because that's definitely not true; there's definitely been some thought in this book and as you read along you'll definitely see that the plot is actually quite intricate and convoluted (although it's still a web novel so don't go thinking it's some professional masterpiece with no plot holes).

There's also a lot of character development, so... more>> just because some characters are introduced as 'evil' or 'bad' doesn't mean they'll necessarily always be antagonists. I really don't like when people tell new readers "oh this character is evil and that character is good" and stuff like that because it gives them a biased perception of the characters before they're even introduced to them.

Pros:

  • Characters -- character depth, character development and characterisation were all really good
  • Interesting and unexpected plot-twists/details
  • Quite emotionally provoking at times
Cons:

  • After a while it does get repetitive
  • At the beginning the plot seems quite simple generic because they don't explore the background/reasons and go into depth about why everything is happening till later
  • Pacing - the protagonist never seems to catch a break and there's pretty much always action; it's quite draining
Overall I'd give it a 4/5 rating. <<less

okay, so ORV was a long long ride. With a convoluted and amazing plot, ORV took me through a roller-coaster of emotions as I travelled alongside Kim Dokja Company.

It is advisable to pace oneself during reading this because there are back-to-back action scenes here without much break, and one might even forget what exactly happened in the earlier scenes if they try to read it all at one go.

alongside the rich plotline, what I really loved about ORV is the maturity of the author. The story is unproblematic with no... more>> misogynistic or homophobic or even any questionable contents (which was crucial as to why I stuck with this novel for so long). If you don't give up halfway through, you will get to see the brilliant character development that takes place in the later part of the novel.

Everything comes around in a circle.

the theme of comradeship, too, made me shed happy tears as I cried over how much they all valued one another.

i also liked how the author explored the role of the reader. It was a bit complex but quite thought-provoking at the same time.

the themes of depression, self-worth, su*cide are also present in this novel which unravels the story of the main characters slowly.

there is literally no romance in the novel but you can interpret the relationship between the characters the way you want, of course. I personally have a lot of ships such as Kim Dojka and Yu Junghyeok, Kim Dokja+Yu Junghyeok+Han Suyeong, and quite a few more.

there was a change of translators halfway through the novel and the names of the characters got a bit confusing because of spelling change (but I understand why that was necessary), its not that big of a problem as I got used to it after a little while.

finally, I would totally recommend this novel if you are looking to immerse yourself in a world full of adventures and a story that is definitely not a light-read. <<less

A masterpiece ⊂(♡⌂♡)⊃

Honestly, I can't relate with those who left bad reviews. Although it's undeniable some scenes may be cliche (reincarnator, system, deus ex machina etc.) It's how author-nim wrote it that, in my opinion, is helluva better than most.

To drop it off immediately in early chapters is a shame. There's something what we call DEVELOPMENT.

... more>> The scenes may be fast-paced. However, the world-building is fleshed out slowly and clearly for the readers to take it in and comprehend.

In early chapters, MC's relationship with the side-characters may seem detached even with the protagonist himself. But it's only because we read from MC's pov, his actions tells a lot than his words lol. I won't say more about KDJ, simple words couldn't capture this guy. I love him gosh.

I also praise Translator-nim, if not for them Author-nim's immersive writing of scenes would be ruined.

When I finished this diamond of a novel my mind was blown into oblivion. Everything clicked at once and I finally touched the bottom of this novel's plot depth.

It's so amazing (┬┬﹏┬┬) I appluade author-nim for ending it in superb way. I want more gosh. But that's for another story (ゝ∀・) <<less

I just want to say that this novel is my favourite. I like it's story, how complicated it can get sometimes and sometimes so simplified that you will think heck why didn't I thought about that it's so easy. Characters are well written and every character has a role to play. It doesn't feel like there are any side characters. Well if you're going to read I would advice you to makeup your mind for a story that has plot not some random shit.

If you're going to start this than... more>> I would like to tell you that our protagonist "Kim Dokja-ssi" is not overpowered, he's stonger than most but not the strongest.

Overall it is a great story with a different kind of plot actually quite unique in it's genre. I have read several Xianxia, Wuxia, VRMMO, Xuanhuan genre novels, but I would like to say that this is a hidden gem, a rare story, an antique or a unique of a single kind. I would like to highly recommend this to anyone that has a hunger of plot not OPoweredness, a reader that has some patience can actually start to love this one after just 70-80 chaps.

This story is very important to me. I love the main character, and his interactions with the others characters. Dok-ja's journey as a reader is one I can more than relate to. Omniscient reader's viewpoint is an amazing novel and was a joy to read (all 551 chapters) .
