Kim Dokja does not consider himself the protagonist of his own life. Befitting the name his parents gave him, he is a solitary person whose sole hobby is reading web novels. For over a decade, he has lived vicariously through Yu Junghyeok, the main character of the web novel Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse (TWSA).

Through Junghyeok, Dokja has experienced secondhand the trials of repeatedly regressing in time, in search of an end to life-threatening “scenarios” that force people to act out narratives for the amusement of god-like “Constellations.”

After reading 3,149 chapters—long after all other readers lost interest—Dokja finally resigns himself to the story ending. However, he receives an enigmatic message from the author, stating that the story will soon be monetized, before his surroundings suddenly go dark.

He swiftly realizes that fiction has become reality and he is now living through TWSA. Although he is the singular omniscient reader of the events yet to come, his success in the scenarios is not guaranteed—but perhaps his advantage will empower him to step into the protagonist role that never suited him before.

An absolutely amazing experience.

Such a superbly planned series.

What seems to be plot holes in the early parts of the story essentially transform into strokes of genius by the author in later parts of the story. No mystery is left unanswered. And every answer is mind-blowing.

... more>> It all makes you think. You hate the constellations that "watch" the character's suffering for their enjoyment. And yet you, as the reader, essentially do the same thing.

The characters. THE CHARACTERS.

Each has depth. They might seem simple at the start, but as the story unravels their quirks, fears, traumas, and best traits rise to the surface. They're a lot of fun and so is the dialogue.

But the real strength of the story is the relationship between the main character and the "original protagonist" of "Ways Of Survival." Very complex, and such a breath of fresh air from those stories that essentially toss the "original protagonist" in the tr*sh. And there is one other relationship that is just as good (if not better).

There are flaws, of course. The fighting, though it might seem important, actually is not nearly as critical as it might seem. Power ups can seem to come from nowhere. Some scenarios are so boring you might fall asleep - and you can safely skip them without losing anything of value.

Still, the overall package, wrapped up so beautifully and with such brilliant emotion it is without a doubt one of my favorite webnovels ever.

Alright, this is the first time I'm writing this, so pardon me for mistakes while writing this.

This novel is great, I personally enjoyed it, while there are some bits and pieces that still bugging me like the censors, I really liked how the writer gave the readers time to figure out what's under the censors of the words.

The story is original, the character is not obnoxious like in some novels are, but I really hated his selflessness, I really thought that I was the constellations, but then, in reality, I... more>> was just a reader, like the original "MC".

The pacing is okay, sometimes you gotta look back on some of the details, but for me it's fine.

The characters are necessary for the MC to grow, but sometimes the aftermath of MC selflessness is kind of disturbing, strapping him to the wall and feeding him sleeping pills? That's too much.

Overall I really liked this story, it sent me sobbing a couple of times, I really recommend it for the readers who want plot twists, the readers who are looking for the not exactly" Happy ever after" endings, and the readers who want to suffer.

The first time I read this, I drop it off in early chapter because it is to heavy for me. Later, I dont have any novel to read so I try to re-read this one and I didnt regret to give this novel another chance.

I really love the characters, the worldbuilding. It is an excellet story that makes you curious what will happen next.

You won't regret to read ORV ❤️

Now I have to wait for the last arc to come?

Welp! I read upto Ch 308 in about 5 days and I have to say that this novel is really immersive. It has one of the most intricate plots and settings that I've read in light novels. The characters seem very interesting in the beginning but by now they've become a bit dull. Especially, the protagonist of the original novel. As many reviewers have already mentioned, our MC keeps planning and plotting in a way that keeps the reader completely in the dark about his plans. Although this is... more>> good in a sense, since it builds up the excitement and drama, but it feels tiring after reading so many chapters at a stretch. One thing that REALLY makes me angry is
Spoiler

how the MC's last resort always becomes sacrificing his own life. Within these 308 chapters, he's sacrificed himself about 5/6times already. It almost trivializes the idea of sacrifice. Another thing is, the original novel that the MC had read had 3800+ chapters and probably had 96 scenarios (not too sure about the number of scenarios. I don't know if I can read upto the end because it almost seems like a torture to see them struggle this hard. Maybe I've become too used to the easygoing novels that have quick ending.

[collapse]

Anyways, the novel is good overall. I wish there was more depth to the characters but the intricate world-building and setting itself makes it worth reading. P.S.
Spoiler

The readers on Webnovel ship Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonhyuk (the original protagonist) and there are some jokes made by the characters about their "comradeship" ;) but there isn't any genuine BL development so far. So, those who don't like BL are free to read it! ^_^

Very fast paced story. Lot's of characters, each very distinct.

At times the story can feel a bit too fast (rush from one scenario to another), but it always tries to be original. The characters grow with the story, making for a enjoyable journey.

For me the story was very unique and always fresh.

this is a surprisingly addicting story and while it hits a lot of cliches, it also deconstructs many of them. The anti-Japanese sentiment isn't too bad (i think there was only one arc where there were "evil" Japanese). The MC shows character growth throughout the story, though sometimes I don't agree with his choices it's almost always interesting. He gets pretty OP but there are still mountains beyond mountains and he gets his b*tt handed to him fairly regularly. I do understand why his companions get pissed off

since he's supposedly died/disappeared on them several times now, usually for years at a time. I'd knock him over the head and tie him up as well.

i don't like the gay-baiting but I can see a lot of people are really shipping the MC and protagonist. From the comments I read I think the author will have a lot more pissed off readers then they might have originally expected if the MC ends up romantically entangled with anyone other than the protagonist, though I think the author could get away with have no defined romance at all. <<less

Holyholyholy

We've already come this far, yet all the turns and twists and kaboom still keeps me hanging on my seat, biting my fingernails, up to the latest chapter. The pace have been upped. I don't know what will happens next, and I'm not even sure if we'll get a happily ever after ending anymore.

So, our MC here is a "reader" of a novel, and somehow his whole world got s**ked into it. But the question is... Is he really a "reader"? Is the novel really a novel?

Our MC, although he knows the"future", is not really that op. Cunning, calculating, and kinda like a shameless salesman, he would even bargain with the devil to see the ending that he desires. But, does that makes him a cold sociopath? I could proudly say 'NO!" to that. It's just an aspect of his personality. Why? Well, just read it and you'll understand haha!

As the story progressed, we found out that his "cheat" isn't really that perfect, and a possible explanation of how did he got it, from who, and why. He, himself, is not perfect, and you'll be seeing him losing his head from being thrusted head-blind into some situations aplenty.

Moving on, there's a solid and unique power system here. The author mostly managed to stick with his own rules, and thumbs up for that. Within the system, you'll find a bunch of historical/mythical references, all with a bit of twist. The explanations is quite neat too, and I still couldn't see a glaring plotholes.

This novel is cliffhanger galore! The character building in this novel is some of the best I have seen and the plots just keep getting better and better. It may be difficult to start with all the new terms and items in the world but it's quite easy to get used to it as there are descriptions for each new item. The translation is quite good, everything makes sense in English and there are literally no grammar errors. If you are looking for a good novel to read, please give... more>> this a go!!

Edit after completing: to be honest, how everything was ultimately resolved kind of took points away from the novel because - idk I felt that it was just too much BUT that doesn't stop the rest of the novel from being amazing. <<less

A very good novel.

MC reads an apocalyptic novel then it becomes a reality. The novel itself and its plot superimposed itself on MC's world so non-novel characters will be added and new plot will happen because of MC's intervention along with all others who read the novel but dropped because they either are bored or because of the protagonist of the story, so MC is the only one who read all chapters till the end except the epilogue.

I love the characters especially how the cold and ruthless protagonist of the... more>> novel (who was disliked by many readers and only the MC stayed to continue reading) learned how to trust and feel again because of the MC. Their bond is beyond what a romance could ever be and I feel it will become a quasiplatonic relationship in the end (I hope).

Definitely a recommend as its not a damn harem either! No s*upid fan-service! <<less

This and The Novel's Extra are probably the two best novels on this entire website. The translator does incredible work, too, which is wonderful. A story this good deserves more than machine translation. The first couple of chapters are a little slow, but I suggest you bear with it. Comes heavily recommended especially for those that love reading stories about people with meager powers in a difficult world using their metaknowledge to make themselves stronger.

An actual masterpiece I swear 🙁, this novel is so gut wrenching but also so painfully heart warming at the same time. I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve cried to this s*upid novel, I love it so much.

But don’t let the fear of angst stop you from reading this, because while it is practically soul shattering, it’s something that will honestly leave you shell shocked for days when you finish reading it. Each character feels so alive that it honestly feels like an insult to call them... more>> side characters. They aren’t just cardboard cutouts there to help the MC, they are people who grieve, and mourn, and fight, and stand proudly alongside the MC 🙁🙁. God, I could yap about this novel for hours 💔, it helped get me through a lot as well so maybe I’m a bit biased. But genuinely, this novel is one of the best ones I’ve ever read.

Anyway, I greatly enjoyed both the plot twists and the plot in general, as well as the world building, and more. I loved reading about each and every character and I quickly grew to love them all dearly. Many of the characters are relatable, and are fun to read about. Many times while reading this, I wondered how the author could come up with something as creative as this, and I’m glad it’s getting the recognition it deserves. None of the characters are perfect, and they all have their own flaws. And I love this so much about all of them.

And so, while I am giving a lot of praise to this novel, that isn’t to say it doesn’t have its own fair share of downsides. But honestly, the negative aspects of this book are mainly things that people can easily brush past and move on, the plot will keep you hooked and interested, and these issues will be barely noticeable at all. Atleast, that’s how it was for me. But I do admit that this novel was practically right up my alley, so I enjoyed it immensely. I would 100% recommend giving this a read and giving it a chance, I can guarantee that you’ll have an amazing time reading it ^_^! <<less

Incredible, just incredible.

Everything connects and everything makes sense in the end, I've grown attached to the characters and can't imagine how amazing they all are.

This story not only singlehandedly made me fall Inlove with reading, but also made me notice how beautiful it is. It's such a beautiful story that gives meaning to something so well.

just as the story goes. I've been a fan since 2020 and only now made a review now but ever since then, not a single day in my life do I not sit down and... more>> just appreciate this story, it became something that means so much to me without me realising and I can't be happier at this. It's in everything I do, I see it in everything and everywhere. Sometimes I just sit and wonder how lucky I am to find this gem, and I know I sound obsessed and insane, but I truly am just a huge fan of this, not only the story but the fanbase and everything about it. If you're EVER going to read a webnovel in your life, READ THIS PLEASE! I'm going to be truthful from the start, because yes, there are some weak plot points. Even as someone who ADORES ORV, even I can tell that there were some aspects that could definitely have been written better. But aside from that, this story is BEAUTIFUL. One review would never be enough to encapsulate just how much I love and cherish orv. My beautiful king Kim Dokja, my self-sacrificial icon, he has so much depth to... more>> his character that I found myself relating a bit too much to him. He is an integral part of the entire story, not just because he's the MC, but because he's such a key figure into the entire world. The relationships he forms, the people he helps, the lives he changes. even the way his actions hurt others... it makes him such a perfectly flawed character.

Not just him, but also Yoo Joonghyuk, who is such a warm character, and his relationship with Kim Dokja that transcends any labels. Han Sooyoung, whom I appreciate for everything she does, especially for Kim Dokja, and that bond between them is just... perfect. Words could never describe the way I adore the characters.

Not the mention the PLOT as well! I found myself crying, especially at that ending when I got to it. No spoilers, of course, but I found myself coming to appreciate each and every action made throughout the story a whole ten times more because of it. The way everything ties in together, and how it makes even things that don't make sense, make sense! The world-building is simplistic yet draws you in to make you feel as if you're really there and seeing everything from the eyes of a viewer. Things will be confusing in the beginning, and you'll wonder if it gets better. Please, trust this random review, and read through the whole story. Even if you don't end up liking orv as much as you thought you would, you'll at least leave with a few quotes that will resonate in you. If I had an hour and the brain power, I could write a review that easily spans a few dozen paragraphs, but even then I could not fully explain how much I appreciate the story. If you EVER read anything in your life, READ OMNISCIENT READER'S VIEWPOINT! You won't regret it!!! <<less

I don't know if I'm real anymore or not after reaching the end of this masterpiece :/

Let me tell you guys this is definitely going to send you in a whirlpool of emotions at the end so ready yourself for the peak from ch1. Honestly saying this book i've wanted to read it since 2 years ago after I finished reading solo leveling cause dude I was dying for this theme of novels but things happen and while following the update on manhwa I postponed the reading of the novel... more>> and a week ago after I departed with my kitty, to come out of mental depression I throw myself in this scenario and consuming all the fables it gave me after all we are all like 'constellation living while feeding on others stories' and before I realised it was story that consumed me, I even skipped several of my classes for the last week and ignored my urgent matter and read the novel in one go that took me 6 days 😭🗿 I first thought that my reading ability slowed down cause I haven't read novel for a year or maybe 11 month but noooo that was wrong I simply went back to reread some parts while smashing my head on those epic parts that why it took much longer time.

This is going to be definitely on my recommend list for anyone searching for a roller coaster of emotions. It just a pity that I can't see you guy's miserable face while you pull at your hair and howling while you don't know you should cry or laugh from all those emotions. From here on ward it be my little spoiler so be aware.

Because the epilogue was clearly an open ending scenario (thanks god at least it was happy ending) but still all the tears I was holding back exploded on that last part cause I love to see that happy ending written down and not left to me to imagine 😭😭 feels like the sweet candy was forcefully taken away from me while I tried hard to reach it, but I still liked it and I can imagine when Hsy and yjh opened the door they would see kdj dazy face first going to pretend he doesn't remember them before crumbling his acting cause he was always bad in acting to begin with getting a beating from both of them while other come to stop those two with crying and laughing face, distort. Then having a hearty fulfilling reunion. And I although loved to see a celebration for the comeback of kdj where uriel, ABF and prisoner of golden headband give a live consort while Dionysus being drunk trying to force kdj to finally drink his wine. *Sob*

While I believe in universe having different dimension that we don't know of, and while I although believe that this is just a novel however I want to imagine that as we read kdj stories, his fable grow stronger and never disappear again both him and member of kim dokja's company. 😭 Be there fable last forever 🫂💖

I continue on following the story on manhwa to cry and get wrecked again, I can't miss those epic battle scene, I devour this story like an outer god <<less

My favourite novel that I've read about 4 years ago now (it's getting close to 5...). I haven't had an account here back then, but now that I've finally made one, ORV deserves my love and praise.

ORV changed my view of the world. (And also made me so much more picky about what I read...)

This story is traumatising, yet so good you can never let go of it. It stays with you. Numbers can make me cry because of this story that's all about one reader, that's all for... more>> that one reader. Kim Dokja is a character like no other, a reader like no other, and so his story is also the most unique one you'll ever get a chance at reading.

The characters, the setting, the subtle foreshadowing,... the writer, reader and protagonist and their connection,... all of ORV is masterfully thought out and written. Everything serves a purpose, everything holds meaning, everything has a story.

ORV makes you realize the value of life, the value of friendships, of loyalty and of sacrifice. It's a story that will stick with you for a long time, with many characters you won't be able to let go of. (A personal anecdote: When I was only a few chapters away from finishing ORV, I stopped for a short while. That short while turned into an entire year of not reading it, simply because I didn't want it to end. I still remembered everything when I finally git the guts to finish it.)

The authors use cliches so well I adored it. They make fun of them all, but subtly, so I've noticed some of the reviewers didn't have the mental capacity to notice.

Give it a try (the webtoon adaptation is top tier too, so you could also start with that and see how you like it). Don't forget tissues. (And also please don't try looking up fanarts before you finish reading. I know it's hard but it's worth not getting spoiled, and you really don't want spoilers when it comes to ORV.)

Kim Dokja, Yoo Junghyeok and Han Sooyoung lit up my world back then. I hope they do the same for readers that need it. <<less

My number 1 favorite novel of all time, I'm afraid I won't be able to find another novel that can top ORV. It's very special for me too, as I can relate a lot to Kim Dokja as a fellow reader.

Amazing plot, a very good worldbuilding, the character developments, the beautiful relationship between Kim Dokja and his beloved friends-family-companion, and the heart-wrenching plot tiwsts. I could spend all week writing about how amazing this novel is, and I would do anything just to experience reading it for the first time... more>> again, but it also a series that I would love to re-read again and again and again because the story 'keep changing' everytime I re-read it.

The manhwa adaptation is pretty good too, though, of course for me nothing can beat the original novel. It's just that good, and definitely has changed my life too. <<less

It is as good as people say. The more I read, the more the setting gets revealed and the more enjoyable and satisfying it becomes.

The basic premise of someone who has read about all the regressions of a character competing with someone who has only regressed a few times was more than enough to keep my interest in the beginning. As the story progresses and becomes more and more meta about stories, it just gets more interesting.

That being said, I find myself taking breaks due to repeated frustrations. That is,... more>> when it feels like the author is throwing unnecessary monkey wrenches at the relationships between the characters. Also, it's another Korean story where there's no romance (at least so far) but an overwhelming amount of potential romance/bait with practically every character. I really feel like it's a cultural difference or something that I just don't get when I see so many unmoved Korean male protagonists. This character at least has feelings but those feelings don't ever translate into broaching a romance with anyone (at least as of the first three hundred chapters). With the extensive character work, I can understand why there is a ton of fanfiction written because there is just so much bait. <<less
