Kim Dokja does not consider himself the protagonist of his own life. Befitting the name his parents gave him, he is a solitary person whose sole hobby is reading web novels. For over a decade, he has lived vicariously through Yu Junghyeok, the main character of the web novel Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse (TWSA).

Through Junghyeok, Dokja has experienced secondhand the trials of repeatedly regressing in time, in search of an end to life-threatening “scenarios” that force people to act out narratives for the amusement of god-like “Constellations.”

After reading 3,149 chapters—long after all other readers lost interest—Dokja finally resigns himself to the story ending. However, he receives an enigmatic message from the author, stating that the story will soon be monetized, before his surroundings suddenly go dark.

He swiftly realizes that fiction has become reality and he is now living through TWSA. Although he is the singular omniscient reader of the events yet to come, his success in the scenarios is not guaranteed—but perhaps his advantage will empower him to step into the protagonist role that never suited him before.

I was quite disappointed by this series. The set-up is interesting, and I don't dislike the hypocritical main character. However, it's too dry. Perhaps I dropped it too far but, at this point in the story, the surprises aren't all that surprising--even to the MC. I like him, but he's apathetic to everything, too. The story is written with him carrying the reader's attention, but he's not written with enough charisma to pull that off unless everything around him is more exciting. There's death and mu*der like in many survival... more>> series, but there isn't any comedy and the drama is weak. Even the action doesn't feel as intense as it should. The storytelling isn't written in a way to get my heart pounding. <<less

Slowish start, great premise, and even better execution. Unlike many novels with similar premises the protagonist isn't some all knowing omniscient Deus Ex Machina holding dirtbag. His plans actually make sense in context and the story even seems to have taken a slightly more mature tone as of later.

There are times where it feels like the perfect solution falls into the protagonist's lap ... more>>

like the Igneel fight. Though the switch up of him taking cold resistance instead of heat resistance was cool

it's always handled pretty well.

The novel is good but slower and deserves at least 25 odd chapters to sink your teeth into and really decide if it's worhtwhile to continue. <<less

In the beginning, this novel has its interesting points but it's not really anything special. The first few chapters are pretty good, but then it starts getting quite stale at around the part where they have the capture the flag battle. There are many readers that just stop at around chapter 60 or 70 because it starts getting boring at around that point, but once you get past that arc, something very interesting happens.

After that, it starts getting boring again, but then something even more interesting happens.

When you reach the... more>> end of the demon king slaying arc, you will basically be lost for words. That arc is probably the most interesting plot twist I have seen in my life.

There are many interesting things about this novel. Like for example, the skill that is known as 'The Fourth Wall'. In beginning, the author sets up the skill as something like a passive but as the story progresses, it turns out... Well, actually I won't say what the skill actually does. <<less

I am only 16 chapters in and I have lost count of the amount of times I burst out laughing at how this author deals with common tropes in these kinds of novels, and on top of that there is a perfect balance between being on the edge of your seat and relaxed story telling to give you an exciting but not overwhelming story.

No doubt, this is a genius novel. The settings are very unique and interesting + good MC I really like him + non-stop action ni boring slice of life but still, needs some breaks here and there. Physcological fighs are intense here If you like that. But to me, I wish there were some bloody physical fight scenes but maybe that will happen in the future. Also Im not really fond of the first person point of view. All in all, this is a must read.

Good twist on the "game" world genre.

Pro

    • Interesting MC, there is room for improvement, while he's not a sh1tty person. The story even mocks how bad the usual cold hearted hero is.
    • Interesting world, even if not really developed yet.
Con

    • Need more interesting secondary characters. They are not expressive enough for now.
    • Too much non stop action.

Absolutely one of the best webnovels out there! I love series that really develop the relationships between characters, and this one really hits the spot. The story itself is really interesting and entertaining, even if there are some parts that dragged a bit for me. I couldn't stop thinking about this novel for weeks after finishing it and even looked up fanfics to try to scratch the itch haha.

I finished the main story/epilogue a year or two ago, so I'll have to get around to reading the side stories soon~

Highly... more>> recommended to anyone who enjoys action novels with good character/relationship development! <<less

Alright babes, sit down, because I'm going to tell you what a masterpiece this novel is, but before that, let me tell you my journey. I wasn't a novel reader until er.. recently (I started and finished the novel around the end of 2024) However, I started reading the manhwa in the later days of 2023. it took me a while to all of the 100ish chapters back then because.. things... but after I did, I was starving for more.

I needed more content, I NEEDED to see what happened. Spoilers... more>> all around the Internet werent making it easy. So after hesitating for a few months, I decided to pick up the novel. Mind you, I do not like reading novels/books at all. But ORV got me hooked to the point I binge read the novel in one week.

What was so good about this novel that made me so.. interested? What did this novel have that others lacked?

If that's what you want to know, let's start from the beginning.

As the summary says, Kim Dokja was a normal salary man with the hobby of reading novels, particularly obsessed with this one novel he'd been reading all his life. When the 3000+ chapter novel finally ends one day, Kim Dokja realises, that with the appearance of otherworldly creatures, the world is somehow turning into the same novel he'd been reading for years, the same world with mythical beings and historical figures.

Maybe it's simple, and maybe this summary won't seem extraordinary, but, sometimes you shouldn't judge the book by it's cover. Or, maybe you should, because if I'm being honest, the cover art is beautiful.

This story isn't your average Joe, it's different, I can assure you. It takes a whole bunch of different genres and mixes them in together, and rather than it being a huge gloopy mess, it's a work of art.

The main character is loveable as he is insufferable, don't get me wrong, he isn't someone with a hero complex, and, he isn't a do-gooder. In the start he's alright, but in the later chapters you can really see his manipulative side strive because that's when the serious stuff starts happening. He's a complex, and well-written character, making him one of the best MCs to ever exist.

That's the main character alright, but what about the other characters?

They're no different. That's right, they aren't stepping stones for the MC to become powerful, they arent just plothole devices, they actually exist in the story, start weak and become strong throughout the story. they all have their different personalities, and you can feel their emotions throughout the novel.

This isn't directed to just the male characters. The female cast in this story aren't just tools, they don't exist to be apart of Mc's (nonexistent) harem. The authors focus more on their brain rather than their 'body' OR romance! which in this story, is also nonexistent. Characters like
Spoiler
[collapse]
Yoo Sangah, Han sooyoung, Lee Jihye, Jang Hayoung, are what makes this story so f*cking good. Without them or without their personalities, I doubt this novel would've appealed to me. The women in this story, are more well-written than the male cast honestly.

After reading this novel, I felt a whole lot smarter actually. There's so much going on in this story that makes you have an epiphany of sorts.

This story was planned, the authors spent TIME with their research. Because this type of story can't be made up along the way, you realise that after reading because there is foreshadowing everywhere to the point it's insane. But, it syncs really well.

There's so many themes in this novel, which I won't discuss (spoilers) but I will acknowledge the fact that I cant stress this enough, make so much sense.

This novel revived me, destroyed me, put me back together again, and wrecked me over and over and I'd be lying if I said I'm the same person I was two years ago.

I will never forget about ORV, it's always going to be in the back of my brain, it's always going to bring me back and make me read again and again until I take my last and final breath.

Thank you Sing-Shong for this incredible piece of fiction. You may not know it, but you two have influenced my life a lot.

I hope by writing this review, I've influenced you to give this novel a chance read. And I hope, maybe in the future, that this review was something that helped you get into this novel and its fandom. <<less

It is divine, incredible. Thanks to this novel, I plunged deeper into reading. This is actually one of my first big novels. I lived through the story, cried, laughed, got angry. When you read it, it's as if you become a part of their company and world. This novel surprised me, confused me, and showed me how f*cking incredible work can be done. It seems that many words can describe this novel, but I will limit myself to this for now, because even though words can convey emotions. But while reading it was such a wide range of impressions that after reading it I just wanted to be silent and ask myself why I read it so quickly. <<less

Words cannot describe how much this story has changed me. I genuinely cannot express my feelings for this novel as masterfully as KDJ can explain how TWSA saved him. If a story can change your life, this is it. If a story can get you through a personally tough time, this is definitely it. This novel did not need straight up angst to make it feel heavy, nor did it rely on silly gags for laughs. All it had was a boy and a dream that thought up the world... more>> as we know it. With such a simple thing at its core, ss-nim masterfully crafted stories within a story. The realistic writing of every character makes you feel like you've met them, know them so intimately. Every single character was written like the main story of their own life, through the eyes of a man who's always felt like he's just a side character, when he himself is this novel's protagonist. He has the opposite of the main character syndrome, when truly he's the one who unknowingly and unwillingly touched so many lives and moved the scenarios forward.

I can lengthen this review further but still be unable to articulate just how wonderful this novel is. It's been a few years since I read it. I remember coming across it towards the end of highschool but really getting into it shortly before the pandemic hit. This story genuinely got me through the long quarantine. I don't know if it's recommendable for the mentally unstable, but considering the entire orv fandom is mentally unstable... hahaha! But this novel was written for you, the reader. And while the manhwa adaptation is wonderful, this is definitely meant to be read as a novel. On your commute home, seated in a train. This was a novel written for its readers. <<less

One think I am sure after reading this novel is that this kind of novel turning into reality isn't my thing at all. First I read Novel's extra then tr*sh of the count's family and after that demon prince goes to the academy. There's other novels but man I disliked the second phase of every one of them including this one. I don't care about the characters and only care if their situational actions are realistic or not. But this concept of this novel kept getting more and more unrealistic.... more>> There are some mistakes here and there but this novel is really well written. Simply a 5/5. This has to be my favorite novel of all time. I know it may seem slow paced and basic at the beginning, but I think the premise is really unique and everything ties together at the end. I found myself rooting for Dokja in everything he does, and never have I seen someone like him. He’s probably my favorite character ever. Speaking of characters, I loved the characters so much. While the firsr 100 chapters are good, I think it gets SUPER good around 200+, I really... more>> like the plot here and god, the ending ruined me. Also, I love Sun Wukong. Just felt the need to include that. And another thing, this teview is kinda short because it’s been awhile since I last read this, but I’ve reread this for like 3 times already, not including the manhwa. <<less

Finished it.

It was good was my third time reading a novel and I found the ending quite satisfying the characters are great and my ship ended not too well since the relationship weren't quite good since it's not a romance one anyways. Welp it was a great ride I read this for 15 days less, more or smth. Loved the characters tbh.

I guess I would've loved it if it weren't for the goddamn spoilers those f*ck*rs gave.

A great novel!

All the characters are well thought out and have depth. I love the main character and the rest of Kim Dokja's company. The narrative evokes a range of emotions—happiness, sadness, and frustration.

It is a story where everything falls into place in the end, so please do not give up. It is a lengthy read but undoubtedly worth it.

... more>> The change in translation in the middle is a bit confusing, but after a few chapters, you will get used to it.

(A little warning: Do not seek any spoilers for the best experience, even though it's very tempting. I saw a lot of spoilers before I read the whole novel, and the shock of the story development was less [I still enjoyed it though]) <<less

The plot and the characters (especially the characters) are just magnificently entertaining. It's quite a long read, but it's absolutely worth it. There are a lot of expositions that may be confusing and boring for some people (it was really interesting imo), but if you get past that, you'll still be able to enjoy every other aspect of the story. Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is definitely one of my favorite novels, and I recommend it 10/10!

Still can't believe how much can relate to the novel and how much it means to me.

At first the MC, Kim Dokja, seems a bit boring, but soon you can tell how much depth not only he has but all the other side characters. It has comedic elements while still keeping a serious undertone. This emotional rollercoaster will forever be a part of me

Having read that some find there to be lot of plot holes, don't seem to understand, that that is a part of all the twist this story... more>> has. If the authors just tell everything from the beginning it gets boring. You can sometimes guess what these "plot twist" are, but when they get to the part, it still gets delivered so well, which is also another part of this journey.
Spoiler

One of these scenes are when you find out who OD is and you can actually guess who it was from the some earlier chapters but the scene still left crying and sobbing.

[collapse]

ORV has a lot of side characters that one can relate to and makes you really treasure the time when you were younger and full of curiosity for the world and all the stories that they hold. The paradoxe this novel has is also really well thought. The roles of a reader, writer and protagonist makes this story especially good for me.

Will always recommend reading it again after some time and you will notice some parts that you haven't noticed before.

10/10

One of my favourite novels, if not even my all-time best read. <<less

The story was amazing.

The plot twist, development, and unexpected event are completely fascinating. However, personally I'm not quite content to the written conclusion because there is no detailed information that the story end up a happy ending nor sad ending. As a reader I'm somewhat thinking about how the story would go on if it still continue but my imagination has it limits since I'm not the author. Huhu all I want for them is to be happy, all those crazy methods they did just for one person but still... more>> end up failing to achieve for the ending they all wish to had. I even stop reading up to the time that they confront the Dokkaebi king because I know that if I continue reading the story will not end up as the story that I imagined since I something predicted how the story would go huhuhu. Well but I still read it to the end because it kept bugging me how the author concluded the storyy but as I expected its not categorized as happy nor sad ending. <<less

I read the manhwa and got impatient, so I went and read the whole novel.

It's worthwhile! In every chapter, the way the plot flow is up to my liking. It's not a slow development with lots of filler scene, but it's definitely not as rushed, like, the author summed up some timeline in a few paragraphs. Actually, I can even imagine the scenes written running like a manhwa inside my head, lmao.

While it may not be a masterpiece, but it's much more readable than its fellow Korean novel protagonist regressors.

This is really one of the best novels, if not, the number one novel in my opinion. This novel was really the opening door to all the other webnovels I have read.

The characters, man, to think I can get an adequate grasp of their personalities which for me, is an important factor when reading stories. When you indulge in something, you have to be able to continue imagining to keep on feeding your attention span on the story. You especially get to understand the main character and the protagonist whose... more>> stories just make your heart go weh. Then, they are part of a found family and everything is beautiful;;; (look at how hard I can cry)

The plot, oh my god, the stuff the story throws at you hits like a truck. The plot twists are what really bring this story's game up another level. They change dramatically how you view the story. This especially applies to the time paradoxes which litter this novel. I love paradoxes.

Now, a life lesson I learned from reading this story is to reread. When I first read this novel, I spedran the story which inadvertently made one of the earlier arcs seem quite boring. I was quite eager to find out the truth and the end of the story. But then, I decided to reread and since I took my time, the story really settled in. I cried for I finally truly understood the content.

If there was a novel that affects how I see life, it is this one guaranteed. I mean, imagine spending brain cells remembering specific numbers, and the existence of two squares next to each other representing something so paramount in my conscious, it's insane.

I don't think my review can do justice to how I truly feel about this novel and what it really deserves but anyways, give it a try, and even if you are reading the manhwa, I absolutely recommend reading the novel too. You just miss out on those details and some statements just mean stronger when they are letters on a page. <<less
