Otherworldly Bar

When Leon was job hunting, he applied for a position as a bartender at a rather unique bar. The customers here, however, seemed quite unusual.

There was a female warrior who wore minimal armor, and it made you wonder what exactly it was protecting.

Then there was an unfortunate catastrophe mage with a luck score that was negative 100 – how had she managed to get by?

A melancholic and solitary Skeleton King – a skeleton? Enjoying a drink? Please, let’s not waste it!

And finally, there was a Demon King who had a soft spot for a hero – but hey, if you’re a Demon King, could you at least focus on your day job? OK?

This bar had an intriguing mix of patrons, to say the least.

Chapter 3 Review:

I never leave a review this early but I have to get this off my chest because it is irking me so much.

The main character is literally just some guy. Not a badass, not the boss behind the scenes, not a charismatic superstar. He is just some guy, but literally 2 and a half chapters into the novel, already 2 women are swooning over him, one even saying that he can do anything to her when she falls unconscious.

Like is this some weird sick fantasy by a sad... more>> and lonely author, or is this just poor writing? Either way, it is so unpleasant to read. I'll continue and leave an update later but wow this start sucks.

Chapter 13 Review:

This novel has not improved in the last 10 chapters and has in fact gotten much worse.

The reason this novel is so intriguing is because of its potential. I thought it may be similar to I'm Really Not The Lord Of Demon or even Black Tech Internet Cafe. It isn't.

First of all, the main character is literally just some guy. He isn't special in any way besides being good at making drinks. He isn't the owner of the bar, he isn't stoic and cool, he is just some random guy. This is my biggest complaint about the novel. The reason that the novels I listed are interesting is because the shop owner is not some random person. They have unique skills or perspectives or just anything. That makes their interactions meaningful and interesting.

None of the interactions in this book felt meaningful.

Second of all, the author keeps on introducing more women who immediately fall for the main character. I am utterly convinced that the author is just some sad loser that no women want so he expresses that in this novel through his mediocre main character. It sucks and it is utterly unrealistic for so many reasons.

Third of all, the actual potential of the novel is extraordinarily limited. Unlike novels such as I'm Really Not The Lord Of Demon, there is only one alternate world. This bar isn't the intersection between a multiverse, it is just one single other world. It isn't even a cool or interesting world, it is literally just Western fantasy.

I am already bored of this world and I made it a whopping 13 chapters. Fourth of all, the characters themselves. There is a very limited cast that is constantly recurring. It isn't like this bar has people who drop by once, leave an interesting story, and then leave. They come, stain the novel with their lack of personality, and then persistently stay around, continuing to stain it. The reason I say lack of personality is because they are all based off the same copy-paste bland template. They are generic good people who are a little bit unintelligent. There you go, the entire cast. No need to read the novel anymore.

There really isn't anything good about this novel. Even the potential itself has been ruined considering the setting.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. <<less

Not bad. It's a fairly unusual story concept, so while it does of course use some common tropes, overall it feels quite new and refreshing. As the synopsis says, the MC is a bartender in a bar that has many entrances across a medieval fantasy world, plus one on Earth, which allows the MC to come to work. Knowledge of mixology and brewing alcohol on Earth is far more advanced than in this other world, and the MC is a master of his craft, which is why he was hired.

The... more>> patrons of the bar are very few at first, due to the fact that only chosen individuals are able to find and enter the bar, and among those who can, most were scared away by the awful skills of the previous bartender. The MC's main goal is to make the bar prosperous again and spread appreciation and knowledge of mixology in the other world. Some side quests include finding new ingredients and developing new c*cktails mixing Earth beverages and magical ingredients from the other world.

His patrons and coworkers are a varied and quirky bunch, as the synopsis lets you understand. There are quite a few beauties among them, some of whom like to flirt with the MC, but so far, he has remained professional with them. Might have something to do with the fact that most of them are non-human, and even the human ones have a few screws loose.

There is some action, but not much, nor is it very impressive in terms of quality. Its purpose is just to break the pace and show that the other world can be quite dangerous. And, well, some of the creatures can actually provide ingresients for the MC's experiments.

The writing is fairly decent, and so is Curiosoth's translation. Of course, they seem to have dropped the projects, so after chapter 50, if you still wish to read, go to Webnovel, where the novel is officially published under the title "Bartender in an Isekai Bar: Pick Up a Wizard Girl." <<less
