Song Ran is an illustrator for children’s books. He has pastel arts, a pastel personality, and a pastel life. One day, he met four-years-old Bubu. Bubu and his father, who has an A+ for success, wealth, and looks, but an F- for childcare, stumble into Song Ran’s world just like that. When fairy tales meet a lonely child, when warm-toned 8012A meets cool-toned 8012B; this is a story about family and love.

One of my favourite short novels.. The novel illustrates the story of a warm family.. MC, ML and the children are very cute.. The simple yet warm and realistic story line is a very good point of this novel.. Although somewhat communication between the two are very cute 🤣 and I love this novel very much..

Really deserving of its high rating! This reminds me of Love Delusion, where the MC has a past trauma and the ML swoops in and saves/rehabilitate the MC, though unrealistic, both are very sweet. Both MC and ML are really cute together, though if I were to nitpick, the whole novel spans 17 days, which is really less to even get to know someone, yet you can say they were fated to be together.

This was a wholesome story. Considering the title and description, I cried more than I expected.

There are a lot of good points to this story. The characters are likeable and distinct. They also act their age (more or less), especially Bubu, the four-year-old. It's always a joy to see authors write children that act their age. As for the MC, he sometimes acts like the heroine in a shoujo/jousei manga. But that could be an occupational disease as he is an illustrator for children's book so is young at heart.

The... more>> ML is mature and doting and experiences good character development from a neglectful career-oriented parent to someone who actually treasures his family. I like him because he dares to admit that he is in the wrong and apologizes for his mistakes.

Another plus point is that the main leads actually communicate. Arguments and misunderstandings are resolved through proper communication which is remarkable considering how Chinese novels tend to milk misunderstandings to push the plot a lot.

There is also the fact that OCD is not just seen as disliking messy things or something along those lines. OCD is actually taken seriously as a mental disease, even if its resolution seems a bit idealistic/unrealistic.

Anyways, I actually really liked this story. The length was also good. Although the amount of extra chapters was a bit much imo. <<less

I thought this was a very lovely story and very interesting how the author could keep so much interest and heat going when 85% of the story happens over the phone. Sometimes you forget that the couple aren't in the same room! A very nice read.

I like that there are awkward moments where both characters make mistakes but they work them out through communication. The MC is shy and a bit of a push over at the beginning but he gains confidence when he realizes that the ML isn't going... more>> to back away because of his background or psychological issues. That's a really nice point. And the ML doesn't look down on him at all for having less financially or educationally, in fact, he takes the time to clearly point out the invaluable things the MC is bringing to the relationship and encourages him to continue his career.

With the caveat that THIS IS FICTION, LIBERTIES HAVE BEEN TAKEN WITH FACT- this story does more to show the realities of trauma, abandonment and mental health than most stories even come close to. It does use the partner gives us a happy solution without a therapist- that's the fiction part- but the partner also ACCEPTS the reality of those issues and doesn't assume that it's made up, or the other person is a flake, which happens WAY TOO OFTEN in reality. I figure it splits the difference in the end and I'm fine with that. <<less

There's a lot about this book that I liked and there's a lot that I didn't like. Neither of the categories overpowers the other and thus, I have very neutral opinions on this book.

To begin with, the story itself is very cute. It has a vulnerable protagonist, a cute little kid, and a very empowering love interest, so inevitably, it is very fluffy and cute. The plot also deals with some really deep psychological concepts while explaining them in layman terms through the storyline which I absolutely admire about the... more>> author. She made it all look so easy.

That's probably also the reason some aspects of the novel didn't sit too well with me. The author made it all look too easy. Especially the way they deal with trauma haha... not everyone is as lucky as the protagonist. Also, some things were left unexplained in the story, creating plotholes that I hope the extras would cover-up.

Overall, it was an engaging read and I give it a high rating only because I didn't put the book down once I started it. <<less

The story is good. There are heart warming, heart wrenching and smut scenes. The ML is realistically portrayed but it too perfect (face, personality, financial) to be true. You wouldn't even have expected his sad past. Probably the only flaw I saw was

When the ML asked the MC to count before seeing him. I find it abrupt. In reality, u can't do that immediately or the person with psychological problem might get aggravated. Although the ML wants to cure the MC, You need to slowly deal with the psychological problem of that person.. Person with psych problem is very sensitive and emotional (as portrayed in the first few chapters), that's why I'm wondering why of the sudden scene of near the end

4.5 stars

This is the one of the best short (in terms of time passing in the novel) romance in modern setting I've ever read. It's actually a long-distance developing relationship, that tag ain't messing around but it's unbelievably good. It's also about 50x heavier than that deceptively pastel tinted summary. But very heart warming. One of the best communication I've ever read as well. Communication itself is 5 stars in this book. Each chapters felt quite long to me so the book felt like a decent length despite it being... more>> 42 chapters long only.

For the plot, MC's past is very heart wrenching. He has a number of psychological issues and it's dealt gently in the book but never tossed aside. I love his interaction with both Bubu and even the cat and the communication with ML despite the long distance. And most of all, love the HE.

As for why the minus 0.5,
Spoiler

DESPITE the glowing review for the communication, there were points of genuine frustration from me, the reader, on MC's thought process and why he does what he did. E.g. Lying about whether he got (I'm assuming, not using MTL here) chicken pox because it felt almost irresponsible at that point. Ofc he's actually responsible such as later calling another person to take care of the child and he does have childhood traumatic reasons for his actions and I can see why he does what he do next time but that very strong feeling of frustration at the point of reading kind of brings down the reading pleasure here and there (it happens more than once) so it was a matter of overall feeling when reading the book. If not it's really a 5 star book.

Fantastic novel, easily tops most of the danmeis I've read everywhere. There are a lot of things that I appreciated from reading this one heck of a story. Topics such as LGBT (and having legit LGBT representation!!), childhood trauma, and mental health illness were mentioned. I would also mention that there is a slight TW// slf hrm in one of the chapters. Its pretty short but it caught me off guard. Chapter number: ... more>>

Chapter 27 in MTL, you can skip starting from the phrase: "There won't be" and continue reading to "But its different now" or "Now he has a home".

The storytelling in this (and I've only read on MTL) is great. You'll feel connected to these characters (especially the MC) and experience the same pain when they do. Wonderfully written MC, he is I think one of the most human characters that I've encountered. He complements well with the ML, and boy he is a treat. Bubu captured my heart and reading the trio's interactions was enjoyable. Reading this in 1 am hit different, prepare some tissues.

Excellent story, I highly suggest reading it. <<less

It's kind of entertaining but I really disliked how quickly they got together and started liking each other, I know there aren't many chapters but I've seen plenty of short stories where the time spent was much longer because there were times kips and such.

I don't care who it is, but no one, absolutely no one who's met more than 10 people in their life falls in love and wants to get married in less than a month. You might think you love them but you don't even know them... more>> enough to love them, especially when they just talked through phones calls which is even worse.

It didn't feel realistic how quickly they fell for each other and made me kind of embarrassed for both of them, like I can understand from the MCs side, he's love deprived and would accept probably anyone who showed him some sincerity, but the ML is in his 30s, meets someone and after 10 days of talking by phone he thinks "yes, that's the one I'm going to marry" how?? <<less

It's a lovely story with just the right balance of fluff and angst—at least in the beginning. The first half sets up a compelling romance with a strong backstory for the main leads, making it feel like we were in for a deep, meaningful love story. But somewhere along the way, it completely lost its footing. The second half felt like it was written by an entirely different person, with how disjointed and rushed it was.

The author did a great job initially, introducing the characters’ situations and past traumas in... more>> a way that made them feel real and layered. But then, those very issues were brushed aside as if mental illness was just a minor inconvenience, like love alone could magically fix everything. Within three weeks of being together, the leads were already declaring their undying love and promising forever, and I couldn't help but laugh. It suddenly started reading like a bad fanfic

And speaking of fanfic, the smut felt out of place. I usually enjoy well-written spice, but I found myself skimming through these scenes because they made me uncomfortable. The daddy kink, in particular, didn’t fit the tone of the story at all. I was hoping for sweet, intimate moments that aligned with the emotional buildup, not something that felt ripped straight out of an AO3 tag search.

the story lacked depth. The chemistry and tension that had so much potential early on just fizzled out. The one thing I genuinely enjoyed was MC’s interactions with Bubu. Those moments were adorable. I also appreciated how misunderstandings were handled maturely, without unnecessary drama.

Overall, It was a below-average read. I didn’t love it or hate it. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re desperate for something to read. <<less

ML does questionable shit, also wtf was this whole story

Absolutely cannot stomach any daddy kink stuff so I'm dropping it. Came for the smut, but was expecting healthy smut not smut with and unhealthy daddy kink with your older and (oh wow, actual daddy!) lover. help. danmeis with older ML often have the shou act childish and spoilt, and I'm at my last straw :)

Ok, so this is the novel that gets me to write a rarely done review I guess.

The story started off strong. The writing is prose-heavy, and the early chapters did a good job of setting the tone for the story. But then... because the leads spend most of their time long-distance, they never meet, only call—And way past the 50% mark it was STILL dragging along. I don't think this author has ever heard of the word "time-skip".

Also, the writing style is so long and drawn out and descriptor heavy—the word count is bulked up by a lot of unnecessary descriptions. Having officially not even made it to the smut where they do the deed (frankly, don't want to—I'm NOT into daddy kinks—even worse when this MC has childhood trauma) —i dont feel like I've missed out on anything. Tho I feel a bit chagrined at having wasted so much time—i should have seen the warning signs. the MC describes wanting to have a child to take care of, and a strong dependable man to take care of him.

Not to mention the explanation of how the ML got his son, Bubu, that sh*t felt like a melodrama straight out of a contrived kdrama plot. wtf?
Spoiler

his gf at the time was lesbian, he didn't know. she took his s**en out of a cond*m and imp**gnated herself. Hid it from him, then showed up months later with the kid

[collapse]

Also, props to the ML not being a gay for you, but I'm also not satisfied with him being progressive enough of saying sexuality is a spectrum, yet still saying he identifies just 'not too straight'. Also then the ML does something questionable to help the MC overcome his trauma. Anyways, this whole affair is s*upid and silly. Gotta draw the line eventually I was being gaslit still reading this but 😭😭 Nein.

Anyways this is all an elaborate lesson—don't let flowery writing fool you, the actual content of this story is on LIFE SUPPORT. The plot is just an elaborate daddy kink fanfic.

props to the translator, translation quality is high, and the acknowledged some of the faults from the source material. This novels a NG for me tho.

op tried to do a lot of things, tackled some good points but fails at depth on the issue. first half of the novel was relatively fine but the second half falls apart really badly.

there were some rly creepy nd weird scenes too, romanticism of that stuff was pretty meh to read. tho I can understand there was no malicious intent behind the writing (probably) but the romantization and obvious ignorance is..... not that great to read.

Considering how fast their relationship went from 0 to 💯, it was like they took a bullet train 😅, the quickest LDR that I've ever read.

Don't take wrong, for such a short story this was good, better than most long chapters novels out there.
