Possessing The Obsessive Maniac’s Cotton Doll

Park Yul got transported to the world of a novel.

Well, sure. He has read a lot of fantasy novels so far, so he was not surprisingly intolerant of such a thing. Live a little, get transported into a novel! And then come back! That’s how to live, isn’t it?

But, why did he possess the cotton doll given to the character who would become the insane, obsessive male lead in the future?

***

“Levi, the doll you gave me seems to be moving.”
“What are you talking about?”

Yul endured the gaze of the Archduke who was staring at him.
‘Be patient, be patient. If you even breathe now, you will be f*cked.’

“Hmm. Yes, it must be my imagination.”

The Archduke then turned around and said flatly.
Yul lived. He had survived such a miserable life, and today too.

“Levi.”
“Yes.”
“Burn that.”
“What?! Nooo!!!!!!!!!”

As he screamed out in a panic, surprised eyes turned to him.
‘Oh, I’m f*cked.’

I didn’t think I’d like the MC so much but he really is very charming and hilarious. ML is excessively possessive but anyone who gets turn off by that clearly didn’t read the title. The story is mostly fluff except maybe one or two chapters near the end. No unnecessary plot stirrers and overly long arcs. Nice cute side story and one smutty one. I wouldn’t recommend the 3rd side story though for those who are faint hearted.

I'm very surprised! When I first saw the few low rated reviews, I wasn't sure if I should read it. Turns out that the comments aren't entirely representative of this novel. I'm glad I decided to read it anyway. Initially during the first few chapters, I was still unsure. But I really got into it the further I read, so much so that I'm surprised at how I first made assumptions of the novel based on what the low raters stated. Well, now I'm all caught up to the current... more>> updated chapters and very eager for more! This novel turned out to be much better than I could have expected. I'd love to add more to this review and will edit as soon as I get the chance, that way I can provide more thorough information for potential readers who are deciding whether or not they should read this, especially with it's few, somewhat scathing reviews. I think this is the kind of novel you'll either like or dislike and it depends on your preferences for characterization, comedy, tropes, storytelling, etc. I'm quite pleased with the characters and the direction the plot is moving, and there a few things I don't like as much but do not mind
Spoiler

(i.e. I have specific preferences for how POV shifts are done, and the few I don't like here so far are when they provide brief snippets of what the antagonists are doing in that moment of time. I prefer more seamless POV changes within the context of the scene and characters present. That's all.).

[collapse]
I'd like to share the elements of this novel that would make this a recommendation from me to you, but sadly this will have to do for now until I can edit to update during a free moment.

Thank you translator, and please don't be discouraged by the reviews. You are doing a splendid job. I super appreciate it! Thank you!!!

Lastly, not sure if it's because of the translator's skill, but I find this novel to be a little bit better written out of the author's two works, both from 2022. <<less

4.5 stars: Well, this was certainly a unique premise: Transmigration into a plush doll in a toxic romance fantasy novel. In this case, the MC remembers many but not quite all the details and not quite all the later plot points in the novel, so it's a bit more interesting than other novel-transmigration stories where the MC remembers everything in explicit detail and is a super genius at avoiding the bad route; indeed, as the story goes on, the "original novel" plot stuff is generally left behind as things obviously... more>> go in a different direction. It's a comedy so expect plenty of complaints about the difficulty of life as a doll, hijinks, and relationship development between two oblivious-or-in-denial emotional idiots. The translation is a bit on the rough side at first but eventually smooths out.

The MC Yul is one of those comedic big-antics and exaggerated-characteristics types, and he's initially a bit annoying in that he's constantly crying over everything from being hungry to wanting Korean food to not liking his clothes and a ton of other small things, so he comes across as petulant and whiny. On the other hand, his situation is a difficult and inconvenient one so I get it, and he's quick to get over things. He also is one of those MCs who doesn't have much brain but he (and sometimes the story) tend to act as if he's smart. However, since this is a comedy, it fits within the genre so his actions and behavior are amusing-annoying—sometimes a little more the former, sometimes a little more the latter. (I did start reading the manhwa adaptation halfway through the novel and although his behavior is exactly the same, it's much less annoying in manhwa format because it's more dialogue and less detail of his internal whining. However, the novel does have more overall story-detail including fleshed out and extended scenes, so both are worth reading if you enjoy the story.)

I will note that at some later point I realized Yul no longer annoyed me, possibly because he stopped being a whiny crybaby—by which I mean he seemed to pout more and rail at the injustices of his situation rather than whine over every tiny little thing.

I enjoyed the more thoughtful details of him being a plush doll such as, for example, him realizing he doesn't have, ahem, male parts and being shocked despite knowing that of course a kid's toy doll wouldn't have one, or what happens to a doll's stuffing when it goes through the wash. Mind you, some details are totally winged or not addressed (he can use utensils to eat and grab hold of many things, yet at several points the story notes he can't do something because he doesn't have fingers, for example), but because the story's not particularly serious, small inconsistencies like this didn't bother me.

The ML Mikael is typically cold and impassive, but being a top in a comedic BL novel, he quickly ends up being a poor long-suffering guy dealing with an excitable and whiny magical doll that may or may not be cursed. He does find Yul amusing, will actually laugh at his antics, and allows him some leeway to act out, but at the same time he keeps Yul in place with casual threats to toss him in the fireplace or cut off his limbs. He puts him in his place but also allows him a lot of leeway, and their arguments are frequently both silly and entertaining. While predictably confused about Yul's existence and his own feelings toward Yul, I appreciated that he had some dimension to his character and wasn't a one-note cold mechanical gong who's only sweet to the MC.

In fact, I really enjoyed the development of their relationship on Mikael's side—his growing affection and later deeper feelings for Yul are based on the simple fact that, although he's annoying and finicky and says strange and outrageous things, Yul makes Mikael laugh. Even other characters notice this. It's very rare in BL novels to see a cold and ruthless top actually frequently laugh based on his love interest's antics and show dimension beyond "cold and ruthless" while also, you know, still being cold and ruthless—it's not like he becomes a total simp for Yul either, he's still definitely on the crazy side.

Unlike other transmigration stories where the transmigration and "this world is a novel" thing are kept secret throughout the entire novel, this one does feature a reveal, though it's a bit underwhelming:

Spoiler

Yul is eventually pressured into revealing that he transmigrated from his own world into this one, and Mikael's world is actually a novel, and Mikael is surprisingly accepting of this and doesn't particularly grapple with any implications of being in a novel, nor does he disbelieve Yul. Basically, the whole reveal isn't much of an issue and doesn't have much of an impact on the story, which is why it's a bit underwhelming. On the other hand, since this is a light fluff comedy, I can see this being more in line with its genres versus something like Mikael obsessing over the philosophical implications of being a character in a boon.

... though you'd think he'd at least ask Yul about more plot and character specifics, out of curiosity if nothing else. Nevertheless, I also appreciated that this reveal didn't come at the very end of the story either, and that it happened at all instead of Yul keeping it secret forever.

[collapse]

As is part-and-parcel of the BL genre, there's the good ol' trope of One Character Not Telling Another Something He Really Really Ought To Tell Him, which I typically roll my eyes at. In this case though, I found it a tad more interesting because usually the character Not Telling either straight-up doesn't think about it for dumb reasons (or no reason) ; here, the character is aware he really should tell the other, but has his own hangups and is probably in some form of denial. So there's an actual emotional aspect and rational acknowledgement that Delaying/Not Telling Is s*upid, instead of it just being a plot device to force the story in a certain direction (usually sowing artificial angst and future idiotic misunderstandings).

Spoiler

Specifically here, Mikael learns that Yul's soul is split between his original world and this world, and if his soul doesn't reunite in one world or the other, he's gonna die in both worlds. He tells Yul about the split soul thing but then in the heat of the moment he ends up leaving out the part about Yul DYING IF HIS SOUL STAYS SPLIT, because he's afraid Yul will choose to go back to his original world and Mikael doesn't want to lose him. At the same time though Mikael is aware that if this isn't addressed soon, Yul will die. He intends to tell him eventually but...

Mikael struggles with telling him due to his own hangups and desire for Yul to stay with him, which yes is frustrating but is also definitely several steps up from the typical trope where A) the top literally doesn't even think about telling his lover about etc important thing or B) confidently/"considerately" decides not to tell his lover "for his own good" or because "he doesn't need to know". Mikael actually has some character development and internal crisis going on, which I appreciated, even if obviously he's dumb and should've immediately told Yul.

[collapse]

The story is generally paced well BUT I will say that when some action-packed or disastrous things happened, they were resolved very quickly—the chapters are pretty short and it'd often seem like something exciting happened only for it to be over almost immediately. While I appreciate the story didn't drag things out, this is a rare case where I wouldn't have minded a few more chapters covering things like sinister plots or harrowing escapes.

Another minor gripe is there's a minor-but-important side character who ends up deeply involved in a plot, and what ultimately happened to this side character is frustratingly never mentioned in the story, not even the extras.

Spoiler

What happened to Marina (and also her mother, whose protection was the sole reason Marina gritted her teeth and did as her father ordered) ? She was her father's reluctant accomplice in kidnapping Yul and engaging in dark sorcery, but not only helped Yul escape in the end, she also grabbed her father when he tried to escape the incoming guards and threw both herself and him out the window. They both survived and were taken into custody and... that's the last we ever hear of her. Yul had promised her before escaping that he'd have Mikael help her out, but she's never brought up in the story again. Was she executed? Exiled? Imprisoned? Sigh.

For that matter, we don't hear about what happened to her father either, although it's reasonable to assume he was either executed or imprisoned, so I'm not too hung up on not knowing his specifics. But Marina was a sympathetic side character who was frankly pretty heroic in the end so it would've been nice to know if Mikael intervened to clear her name and free her.

[collapse]

The first set of extras are an epilogue leading up to a wedding and a series of very explicit R18 chapters (the main story is all PG13 fade to black), including the only time I've ever read about a certain real-life practical post-snusnu aftercare practice being included in a BL webnovel:

Spoiler

After they bang all night, Mikael insists the tired Yul not pass out and takes him to the bathroom to help him wash up, including a fairly detailed description of Yul experiencing an enema to get the s*men out of his backside. Uh, sure. It's not s*xily written, it's pretty pragmatic and rather brief all things considered, which is rather unusual in BL.

[collapse]

The next set of extras are an AU of Mikael where he's crazed and cruel like in the original novel, having his vicious R18 way with an unwilling and terrified Yul. Like there's no setup or plot, the chapter immediately starts off with brutal r*pe and literal t*rture and is, you know, kind of sort of really way, waaaaay different from the previous fun fluff and comedy. It's not even the type of titillating noncon where the bottom hates it because he can't help but enjoy himself and there's psychological aspects (I'm speaking about noncon in terms of BL genre tropes and pure fiction, let's not make this a discussion of IRL behavior). Yul's just in terror and agony and misery the whole time as Mikael brutalizes him with tools like hooks and chains and pincers.

Look, I read a lot of BL in comic and novel forms, of different genres, explicitness, and toxicity, and I read doujinshi that takes wholesome friendships and turns them into dark BL, and even I... I just... look, just skip chapters 117-120. It's really awful after all the comedic lighthearted fluff. It is literally just the Bad End of the original toxic cruelty novel, only with Yul instead. (Well, sort of, as I recall, like everyone dies in the end of the original novel, this doesn't get there, but you know what the original Mikael did to the original Levi's ankles? Yeah, now it's to Yul.)

Then *whiplash* chapter 121 resumes the fluff, in yet more epilogue—that turns out in one part to be a bit meta and I'm assuming was written to celebrate the manhwa adaptation. It was a cute reference and I appreciated that the whole extra didn't revolve around this, it was just one scene in the middle of the rest of the extra story. The rest of the chapters are yet more fluff, though it was bit odd as it briefly introduced characters who seemed like they probably had their own elaborate history, only for the story to then pretty much end. I'm wondering if they're characters from another novel by the author or some other kind of easter egg. Or perhaps setting up a spinoff?

EDIT: I looked it up and yes, they're characters from Transmigrated As the Yandere Top's Fluffball!

At any rate, although I initially found Yul annoying and the story funny but also weird and considered dropping it, I kept reading and was quite happy to find the novel entertaining and lighthearted, with a top who's changed for the better due to his love for (and occasional frustration with) the bottom, and a bottom who struggles with life as a cotton doll, complete with busted seams, stains, and a soft body that doesn't feel pain but sure can feel uncomfortable. (Seriously, just ignore that weird AU set of chapters in the extras, WTF.) <<less

so I've read a review for Disabled Tyrant that its a really fluffy story but you have to shut down your brain to be able to accept the plot.. Or something like that. But I think this story fits that comment more, the solution is literally right in their faces but they're somehow unable to even think about it.

But it was really funny, especially in the first part, I had a good laugh every chapter. So if you're just looking for some light-hearted romance you might like it.

I don't think... more>> this is meant to be taken seriously but I'll just mention it anw. First, Yuri already read the novel but clearly that knowledge really didn't benefit him in anyway, things that happened still happened but replace the MC as him. Second, how come their characteristics just have no connection to the og novel except for Mikhael but even with the change, there's barely any explanation why he did those to Levi and Andrei. I was really curious how they would parallel it to the og but it just doesn't make sense? In the early chapters it was shown that Mikhael treats Levi differently but then Levi just went off-screen and Mikhael also suddenly lost his interest on him, and that's it? Its that easy to let go of a man worthy of betraying your closest friend? Like not even a reason why he's so interested. Andrei, I thought he had something for Levi or maybe he's just thinking for Mikhael's good but he shouldn't have let him get that far for Levi? Why did he even protect him at the cost of your throne and friendship when with Yuri's he wants to burn him? What's their relationship? Caleb too, he got together with Levi but in the og he let Mikhael do all that to him. Wtf. Anw, you just can't use logic here. So get that good laugh and enjoy the translation if you think you don't mind those things. <<less

As someone who enjoys transmigration this is by far one of the best one I have ever read. The MC is so cute when struggling with the doll body of his. He always lighten up the gloomy mood. It's so funny that the ML was depicted as scary but in reality he himself is scared of moving dolls. ML always pampers MC subconsciously. + Both are raising a cute dragon as their son.

My actual review is 4.5.

It's a good novel but I guess it depends on the person's taste. But if you want some sort of no brainer to read after a heavy work, you could go for this.

It's a peppy work with a pinch of sadness sprinkled here and there with a fast pacing and requires no special brain cell work to understand.

... more>> Both the MC and ML are cracks in different ways. So I guess it's OK.

Overall, Read if you want a no brainer. Avoid if you don't like cracks as protagonists. <<less

A Pretty Cute, Fluffy, and Light Novel so far!

I like the fact that MC's identity wasn't hidden that deep. Quite few people know about him, though his identity does still a secret.

And also I LOVE how MC's knowledge about the world he's Transmigrated into is known to ML. Though his knowledge was technically useless? ML only that to MC, this new world was a Novel and ML suppose to like the OG!Protagonist and a Yandere ML.

Nothing reveal hidden scheme whatsoever. It was truly feels like a Light Fun Novel with...... more>> What plot?

Yeah, I just realise I don't actually feel hidden plot. Just MC as Magic Doll and his link to his Original World was the plot so far. And then other suspicious people tried to find out about ML's secret (which related to MC's Doll Identity and all).

But I do love how MC can tell everything about his world to ML. No secret. So nice.... (*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡

Anyway I hope the translation keep going. And readers would surround this novel just for fun. It's a nice novel so far!

For someone who barely read BL Korean Novel, I liked it! <<less

The premise seemed interesting so I gave it a try and was left disappointed because it was rated pretty high (4.1 at this point in time).

Both the MC and ML left a lot to be desired. MC seemed like a complaining little child and not like a grown man at all and ML did not come off like a man of his position (archduke) as well as pretty unlikable. I don't know how these characters fell in love with each other. I didn't believe in them as a couple; it... more>> felt like their coupling was forced. MC has no skills or smarts and since most of the story revolves around him, the majority of the dialogue was just of him complaining and extremely repetitive.

Spoiler

It ends up being MC yelling/complaining about being a doll, complaining about the dragon, complaining about getting dirty, complaining about the MC and constantly telling him he's a gwanggong. ML saying MC is cute and wanting to sleep with him.

[collapse]

There's no character development or build-up. Villains get mentioned and teased but their interactions are anti climactic. Dragons are in this story for no reason at all. Politics and enemies are in the background but nothing happens.

The only reason it's 2 stars instead of 1 is because there's some drama/tension/interesting tidbits of story coming from the main point of the story: MC gets turned into a doll that can transform into a human. Another pro is that the translation is already completed and so it can be binge read. There's also some smut in the side stories. <<less

Cute read, my only conplaint is to the author for there felt like many areas left unanswered, kinda felt rushed and forgotten about but the whole thing overall was really enjoyable to read. Ended up binge reading it, thank you to translator!! Likely to read it again as it's an easy cute story and the comedy was top notch!! 5 stars for the translator I'd vote it a 3.5 for the story itself

Its a wholesome story, MC is pure and transparent and ML is the obsessive type, but not in a bad way. This story isn't really a serious one where MC would have a solid goal on something.

Enjoyed the romances, it was really fun to read.

I made it 4 not 5 stars is cause sometimes I feel like the story is lacking a bit here and there for some info but, overall it's easy to understand the story.

THIS WAS AMAZING. Easy and cute to read!

I don't have anything major to complain about. Yuri is very cute and Mikael also learned a lot from him and developed a good personality from that. Lucky is also cute but I think there should be more information about the dragons. The events surrounding the main couple were well maintained and good to read, I didn't get confused and it wasn't hard to understand such events either.

Just like the title and the initial chapters say, Mikael may be a toxic “yandere”, but... more>> he never treated Yuri badly, not in the physical sense! There were some provocations from Mikael but he never put them into practice (thanks Mikael, for behaving) ! I have little left to say, the reading was good. I'm very demanding with BL's but this one surprised me a lot, because it was balanced and didn't make me uncomfortable.

pretty good! I loved it. <<less

Literally all four of my vote is for comedy. This is FUNNNNNYYY. MC is so funny and ML has the best reactions lol.

for any other thing like writing, translation, plot/lore.. it’s mid. Writing isnt even average but because the characters are character-ing it doesn’t matter aslong as you are not picky about it, translation is good eligible yuh, and the lore there isn’t one lmao I mean sure but no..... the story focuses more on the romance of the MC and ML & their personalities.

3.75. This was a short but cute read!! Its nothing revolutionary, its a bit cliche but it was enjoyable. The MC was very cute and I liked how he wasn’t afraid to curse everyone around him. He was also super cute as a doll haha. The ML was likeable as well. I was worried it was would take a toxic red flag turn but it wasn’t. As long as the MC was happy the ML would do it. Their romance progression was cute as well! The MC was a bit... more>> oblivious at times but it wasn’t too slow burn imo. I lovedddd lucky, the dragon. It was so cute and so was the bickering between the MC and lucky. I reccomend this if u want a fairly short but cute fanasty read! <<less

If you're looking for a cute, funny, and short love transmigration story, this is it! Cute sunshine mc/possessive ml

The premise itself is hilarious and our MC Park Yul personality really shines as he lives out being a doll. It was a fun read and the translation was well done!

The whole world basically revolves around the 2 main character and we don't really see any other character development and the plot itself isn't groundbreaking. Maybe because it was short everything felt super rushed/predictable and the romance was a bit insta-lovey
