Huo Ran, infamous for his quick temper throughout the school, his skills at basketball got him appointed captain of the school team in his first year.

Kou Chen, the transfer student that liked to boast. There were all sorts of rumours about him: that he had a good family background. That the reason he’d transferred from far away was because he’d hit a teacher. That he was exceptionally good at fighting.

These two, who had clashed during a basketball match in the previous semester and were left with unfavorable impressions of each other, have now been allocated into the same class.

Would sparks fly?

…Probably, but perhaps not in the way you’d expect.

It was a very light hearted novel and really enjoyed reading it !

The relationship between the two male lead is so sweet and HILARIOUS. The romance comes pretty late but there's a natural progression. The author really wrote them well and shaped their characters, I was really impressed by that. They felt very authentic and human.

The friendship with other characters was super cute too !

... more>> I really loved their teacher Old Yuan and his outake on education. Made me pretty emotional.

Only thing is that I wished we had some chapters about them when they are adults. But overall, a very light hearted and sweet book !

PS- I've put 5 stars to bring the ratings a bit up <<less

Surprisingly, this turned out to be one of WuZhe's novels that I didn't like. I'm a huge fan of WuZhe and I think she's an exceptional writer. SAYE and Unbridled were absolutely phenomenal works in their own right.

Perhaps because of my experience with those novels, I unconsciously expected something more, or at least something unique, from this one, but I just feel so disappointed.

And I really do not like Kou Chen, and the entire premise of the story just didn't evoke that emotional pull I usually feel with WuZhe's characters.... more>> The plot felt shallow in places, and sometimes some absurd moments by rather than building toward anything realistically compelling. Like you expect me to believe a bunch of high school kids would do all that? Lmfao

Maybe it's just personal taste, but I couldn't connect with the characters or their growth. It lacked the nuance and emotional maturity that made SAYE so unforgettable for me. <<less

This book. This book had me laughing so hard, dieing on the floor. Kou Chen and Huo Ren I love you guys so much

A nice slice of life comedy with little misadventures with Kou Chen and Huo Ren <3

If you read Antidote (also by Wu Zhe), its just as funny as this except Antidote also has angst and spain without the S.

Qing Kuang is just nice comfort happy feels~

Yes, I wanted to drop it. However, I kept going because judging at an early chapter doesn't suit me.

Huo Ran is very expressive with his words. I wouldn't say I'm sensitive to cussing but maybe it was too much?

It did redeem itself though through funny scenarios. For example, when they were out camping and inside the tent Kou chen, the ml, wanted to show Hou Ran something. He unzipped his pants and a chicken flew out, not a real one lol. A keychain? I forgot.

There's a very diverse amount of... more>> family problems here. Nonetheless, I found it fun to read. <<less

The story, the friends, the journey is hilarious and wonderful and very feel good. I'd recommend the novel for that. Kou Chen is an absolute delight. 10/10. He MAKES this novel. Huo Ran isn't an as vibrant character, but he's sweet and steadier in some ways. Frankly, it's a shame that the story doesn't get into Huo Ran's backstory properly. That painful reveal should've had some follow up but nope. Huo Ran's character isn't flat but it definitely lacks some depth. Personally I don't like how Kou Chen and his... more>> dad's relationship was 'fixed'. His dad hits him super hard and even threw a heavy mahogany chair at him. He verbally puts him down, calls him s*upid and useless and ML outright 'jokes' that his dad cares for his sister more than him. So after all that, making the ML say to his dad 'well I know you care about me too' feels like a complete cop out. If a character is SHOWN to do something but you try to convince me, as a reader, that what I read was wrong then. Sorry. It doesn't work like that. His dad doesn't apologize. Not ever not once.

While the whole reconciliation exam thing isn't a bad idea and he FINALLY defends his son, the fact is that the ML cried when it actually happened. So no, you can't convince me that it's all fine, it's just a 'misunderstanding' when the ML went into a complete depression fugue state for more then 2 days after what his dad did and said to him. Kou Chen has a complete mental breakdown and it is utterly ignored because of the confession and later bet. It is not okay. And even more frustratingly, we don't even get to know how his dad reacted to the letter as the story just ends without saying anything.

The novel tried to write a story with a difficult relationship between father and son ending with mutual growth and reconciliation; but honestly, to me it read of a father verbally and physically abusing his son to 'make him better' and all of it being smoothed away because yeah, Kou Chen isn't good at studies and his dad loves him so it's all fine, just reconcile and don't ever bring up all the painful things your dad did and said to you. Get over it, bury it because parental love is just sometimes telling your son he's a disgrace for his entire life so he 'man's up'. Because yeah, his dad is also a low key misogynist. <<less
