Minseo was trapped in [Raise Lena].

With the emotionless text, “[Starting Raise Lena]” he became Leo and was imprisoned in an unfamiliar world.

“Leo! Are you listening to me?”

“Uh-huh?”

“Leo? Why the long face? You! Are you messing with me again?”

There, he met his childhood friend, Lena, skillfully picking berries.

The lovely Lena. Leo marries her in a peaceful mountain village…

[Lena is married! Congratulations.] [You have failed to clear Raise Lena.] [Restarting.] The happiest moment.

Lena disappeared.

And….

“Leo! Are you listening to me?”

“Huh? Lena!”

“Why have you been spacing out? And why are you looking at me like that? You wanna get beat up?”

Lena, clad in thick leather armor and a sword on her shoulder, stared at him with unwavering eyes.

It was a different scenario. Real

The novel is quite unique and fun to read. It's not some s*upid "I got reincarnated in an otome game and have to avoid death flag" cookie cutter type isekai. There's quite a few elements that set the novel apart despite borrowing the setting of our protagonist reincarnating in a game world.

First of all is the POVs. In almost all of the novels that you read about game worlds, you have the MC reincarnate in somebody else's body. In this novel, the main character is the "foreign entity" while the... more>> host body still retains its base personality. The clash and interaction between our main character, Minseo, and all of the characters he possesses, the Leos are an integral motif and part of the story moving forward. With this, you can see the world in many different perspectives: the multiple Leos and their tendencies, Minseo's motivations and goals, and also sometimes, other side characters. Sometimes Minseo will fight with the Leos, clashing in what they want to do. Sometimes Minseo will feel anger, and Leos will feel sorrow. And sometimes they'll align with each other. The character building on our main characters does feel a lot more genuine as you see through the lens of the four main characters in this novel.

Second is the concept of regression. The novel the idea of regressing whenever our main character dies and carries those memories to the next cycle. This isn't entirely unique, but the way the author writes it out is fun. When a Leo achieves something, or when they prevent a tragedy from happening, that gets carried over to the next regression as an "anchor point" and from then on, Minseo and Leo will have an easier time trying to achieve their goals for the better. The way the world changes and how the same characters that you encounter will be under completely different circumstances is always fun to read.

Third is the stats. I love how this novel doesn't just gamify stats. It's not that the main character has discrete numbers defining his strength, intelligence, magic stat or whatever. Instead, the only gamification that this novel does is very surface-level. There are scenario clear rewards, achievements that increase Leo's strength by a indiscernible amount, such as being faster near borders, the ending credits scene for each regression. By limiting the game interface in the world, the novel becomes more grounded in reality and makes the Leos facing their challenges less of a game, but reality of course.

I do have to say that the novel starts off much stronger than it ends. From around Chapter 300 to 380, it's more like New Game + rather than Leo or Minseo having to face a huge challenge. If the chapters before chapter 300 are filled with life and death situations and uncertainty, then chapter 300 to 380 is like a pre-ordained fate or path towards victory that the Gods of the world want Leo or Minseo to achieve. It's almost like an epilogue where there's more focus on worldbuilding and some character development more than anything else. You explore different kingdoms, understand side characters more, figure out how the world works, but it's a little bit of extra information than being crucial to the plot.

With the last stretch also comes the bad parts of the novel. While the novel really tries to do character development, there are only a few characters that are genuine other than the main characters and the main heroines. The relationship between the Lenas and Leos are always endearing, and the romance is also that much more satisfying when you understand the challenges and obstacles they had to go through to get to where they are. The problem is that every damn side character has to have some romance too and they're all quite dull. The main culprits is beggar siblings' love interest. Tian is a character that pairs with the Lena in the beggar scenario. The problem is that this relationship between Tian and Lena isn't explored at all, and to be honest, Lena and Tian are both boring characters. The beggar scenario siblings definitely devolve to the worst characters in the novel, and part of that is because that scenario is the only one where Lena and Leo aren't love interests. Thus, the author has to write in one dimensional love interests that you don't care about. Jenia is Leo's love interest, but again, what does Jenia contribute to the story? Leo and Jenia are just fated to be together and that's it. No romance, no sense of achievement. Even Cassia, who isn't even a love interest, is fun to read about since Leo and Cassia had a complex relationship across multiple regression cycles. Cassia and Leo pick each other up and help each other, one way or the other, and through those strenuous times comes solid character development. Jenia, a noble, doesn't really have any obstacles or character development, and thus her relationship with Leo is similarly just shoehorned in.

Still, I found the novel, well novel. It takes the boring 'reincarnated to game' concept and does something new with it. The story is normal, but the worldbuilding and characters bring it to life. <<less

The main draw of the story is how the main character is split between his true character and the personality of Minseo. I love the way they had integrated and displayed this split along with the dilemma that comes with it through the way they treat Lena and the way they solve events. Highly recommended novel to follow!

Gonna keep it short but essentially the story is about our MC Minseo managing 3 separate lives/routes in which he needs to raise Lena to become a princess. This is so he can get back to his world.

Honestly this novel wasn't what I expected and it was a pleasant surprise instead, there is a lot of world building and foreshadowing, and the original owners of the bodies he takes keep their ego.

It's been a fun read, the translation quality is good and is being released regularly.

TL;DR: it's okay. Even pretty good if you don't mind the contrived plot.

It's not particularly original, but the start is somewhat well-executed. Good world building, good pacing, clear writing style (though the translation is not consistent in the spelling of names). Most pleasing of all, the NPCs are actually fleshed out characters and they feel "alive".

Unfortunately, the story is painfully, obviously, railroaded through the narrow-minded MC who rarely thinks things through. He is not a total idiot, his game-acquired skills make him competent, but the author seems a bit heavy-handed... more>> when it comes to the time-loop plot. Instead of a smooth world where every piece falls in place, and every situation is predetermined, the plot advances depending on the MC's inability. <<less

I gave it a 5 star rating because for what the novel seems to be aiming to do, it does it incredibly well. The world the times are set in is fascinating, and most of the time I enjoyed the MC's story.

But I have more personal qualms.

For what I've read so far, the story is, for a lot of the time, uncomfortable with darker tones. As I read the story I felt a growing sense that Minseol, the MC, is alone.

He of course wants Lena to be happy, but in... more>> achieving his own happiness and escaping his own unfairly given imprisonment, he is alone.

Additionally as the story progresses, you increasingly feel as though Minseol is slowly be suffocated and snuffed out.

Spoiler

even Leo, the alter personality, wishes for Minseol to dissappear on multiple occasions.

[collapse]

I felt as though I was watching a man slowly but surely drown. It's uncomfortable.

Spoiler

it doesn't help that for Minseol to win, Lena seems to need to marry a prince. Leo will lose.

There are many happy, satisfying endings. All are deemed "failures"

Not really a review of the work per se. Just a rant. The actions of the MC are pretty reasonable all things considered. He knows he's trapped in a game and theres a good chance he'll die if hes not able to clear it. The game is supeeer difficult plus MC is held back by an artificially induced love for a game character. But the novel seems to make it appear like the MC was at fault? That he's a douche for doing whats necessary to survive? I dont agree... more>> with the message. And I dont think I can stomach reading further if it turns out that the solution all along was to be king himself. <<less

I like it, the concept is unique and the MC really needs to try hard to succeed, nothing is handed to him on a silver platter. He was introduced as a lazy failure, and I like how he didn't suddenly become a super genius capable of fixing everything. He grows in character and strength in a natural manner. The side characters are interesting as well, even characters that only appear in very short segments stay memorable and show glimpses of true emotion.

Edit CH134: Wow. It got so much better. The... more>> world, the mechanics, power progression, everything became so much better. It's actually insane how much the quality increased. <<less

Starts out very well, and the interplay between the three stories makes for a somewhat novel, well, novel. But the novel loses steam and goes downhill in the later chapters.

Spoiler

First, as you see more of the FMC in the different lives, although the author continually notes that even the same version of the FMC changes character / personality in a different run, they have one commonality - they are somewhat s*upid and spoiled - think Buttercup from the Princess Bride novel (not the movie version). Second, the author turns the MC s*upid in the latest run, making the MC adopt the genius idea of having to get the FMC to hate him. It's contrived, its inconsistent, it doesn't fit the plot, and it has no possibility of working. So it's that classic, poisonous trope of "turn the MC s*upid to create dramatic tension."

[collapse]

I will keep reading for now, but will drop if it continues in this vein. <<less

the novel would be better if the author didn't include the permanent achievement that increase the favorability, and the achievement that increase the trust, and the MC synchronized with Leo. I would give it a 4 rating if it weren't for these things included. Now for me, the novel is just meh, not worth investing time into.

Definitely one of the Best.

Pro:-

World building is very complex, you get to see how small details that seemed useless lead to a something big.

... more>> Characters got depth to them not there just to boot lick protag

MC (minseo) gets his own character development from a looser to became a person capable to face adversities in his life.I personally love minseo character he is like a normal human lazy pathetic, selfish, depressed, broken and mostly someone who just don't want to suffer. You get to see how he intially tries things that are easy for him only and how karma gets him. (Those hating should try dragon ball super I think they might like that one as it only requies 1 brain cell)

Plot always keeps u engaged give plot twist that you never expect in way that makes sense after u ponder a little not like some bullsh*t excuse to fill the gaps

Cons:-

Story telling is complex and hard to understand, like the concept of how minseo consciousness is more dominant in the start but as he losses orignal leo dominates making their decision making mixed. This might be good for those who like complex stories but for someone who only read "I became sss class broken constellation hunter after 10000 year in frozen demon world with outer gods" it might come as strange

MC is pathetic at start u get to see how he keeps doing things that are selfish. (While this might be due to his naive nature which u see how he deals with it as he grows. To our sss class hunters he might come as a looser who couldn't just pick up a mythic class item) <<less

Holy crap, where do I even start...

So as a TL;DR for the peeps with an attention span of a goldfish, this is basically the author's slow and torturous ride for the reader to make them accept self-flagellation and eventually accept this masochistic bait of a novel.

Don't like? Then off you go.

... more>> Now, regarding this, I've given it time and let it cook, and have reached Ch.50 by the time of this reading. I don't wanna spoil much, but I'll rant a bit about why I hated the experience.

First off, the MC, from the modern Korea, was not even able to use his knowledge in any way shape or form. He's basically being backseated while the body he inhabits controls it most of the time. His consciousness becomes a repository of his experiences (including all the failures and regrets) he accumulates in every loop. And it adds to his ever growing neurosis that is just one tip away from exploding.

Second of all, while I appreciate the author's very very brave foray in unsavory topics, he has had the MC act more on assumptions than any information he gathered (other than those the MC experienced head-on). MC was s*upid for this amount of time and I can't even bear it.

Next, the timeline is really confusing here. There is nothing denoting months for the passage of time. There's the occasional mention of seasons passing, but I can't even get an accurate passage due to them being barely mentioned, if at all.

I'll still give this a go, and see if it gets anywhere better. Sunk cost fallacy and all that jazz. I'll update after. <<less

The wolrd building is great and most characters that we see are not just bland archetypes they have an objective relationship between them etc... but the author doesn't know when to let go of the stick at least in Berserk its clear, you know what to expect.

Here you are in that grey zone where it could be good sometimes for the MC but most of the times something come and F everything up or when you are already on the groud he is still kicking you ... more>>

So, for now what I can say is this: As characters go...

MC is pretty slow on the uptake, for everything. Also needs to learn some self restraint because his emotions mess up a lot of things in relation to what he's supposed to do and how.

Of course, I can understand his ego mixes with Leo and that causes confusion, pain, etc. He wasn't fine from the start, too, yes.

But, he DOES remember who he really was and the objective. So, at some point it would make sense to get a... more>> grip, and use all that to push forward, improve and also clear this loop in place of panicking, which helps nobody.

Lena, well, I rather like her, she's just kind human, but not a saint. As any other person, some circumstances may turn her into something MC didn't like or expect. But she's mostly a clean slate a the point the loop starts.

Influencing Lena IS on MC's task list to get out of this loop, so whatever is happening is on him, mostly.

I have a lot to read yet so I'm hoping he does better later.

In terms of plot, each setting is pretty different from the other, although the planet would be the same in all of them.

Since the objective supposedly is the same, what moves all is whatever the MC tries to do.

Honestly, I'm wondering if the problem is his perspective, at this point.

I mean, maybe the objective is not as simple as he expects. It's not the game after all, he's living it, I would expect to be some changes no?

Anyway, in terms of translation, i've no complaints, both teams are fine enough.

Not a fan of patreon webpage though, it's slow and uncomfortable to navigate. But I can understand why it's there. <<less

Tentatively 4 stars?

The summary makes you feel like it's just the protagonist Minseo looping only, but nope, turns out that there are THREE different individualistic Leo SHARING their bodies with MC. Their thought processes affect the MC, who's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, and the game system giving bad end warning vibes (feels arbitrary from author) that come out of nowhere isn't helping either. This ends up with MC going crazy over the influence of Leos and stress from the system's countdown.

MC gets killed? You have X/Y... more>> left.

Didn't clear the game (Leo+Lena's endings not satisfied) ? You have X/Y left.

MC perceives these remaining numbers as lives left. If MC gets killed, the synchronization with Leos slows down, and speeds up with them if he doesn't clear the game. If the number of X/Y is full, he think it's game over. I think the issue in this novel is Minseo is an ordinary guy and he's running like a headless chicken due to multiple hurdles in the scenarios he's in. You can't really blame him though, there's hardly any information given by the game system and clearing the game is unclear, even at chapter 91. The story and world building is interesting, but having the MC 'playing' the game poorly for so many chapters is boring,

In Korean terms, it's like eating sweet potatoes, something stuck in your throat and making you feel annoyed. You don't really see the path for a game clear and MC + Leo + Lena will keep on getting bad ends until MC is sufficient enough with his skills and planning, but once that happens, it's quite likely that the story will get exciting. For now, wait for more chapters unless you want to see the initial buildup. <<less

Hard to rate it for technically reading so little, this is for warning before you read.

s*x s*avery and Prostitution tragedy.

The setting is inherently hostile: the given goal and the world built make it inevitable for tragedies to happen in progressing to that goal, the system's way of ending of a loop is gamelike and the transition into the next story is a moment, no time for a payoff, closure or letting the emotions of a tragedy settle in a realistic way. This slows down the development of the main characters... more>> in a contrived way.

And so far, no decent payoff or message but I hope those further ahead can clarify.

I think its existence will measure the worth of this type of story. <<less
