Xiao Yu was humanity’s greatest genius, a scientist whose intellect surpassed all others. He saw the signs of Earth’s impending doom a decade before it happened, warning the world of the catastrophe to come. But instead of being hailed as a savior, he was ridiculed, dismissed as a madman by his peers, and ignored by society.

Realizing that nothing could change humanity’s fate, Xiao Yu made a decision. He turned his brilliance toward survival. Using knowledge decades ahead of human science, he constructed the first true interstellar battleship—not for humanity, but for himself. And when the end came, he did what no one else could. He abandoned his mortal body, fusing his very soul with the ship’s central computer and escaping into the endless void.

Now, drifting through the vast and indifferent cosmos, he is the last remnant of a dead civilization. But he refuses to let humanity vanish without a trace. Why was Earth destroyed? Was it truly unavoidable, or was there something more sinister at play? To uncover the truth, he must push beyond the limits of human science. His battleship is just the beginning. Through relentless technological advancement, he will evolve, forging a warship that can traverse the stars, a fleet that can reclaim humanity’s lost legacy.

The universe is vast, filled with unknown civilizations, ancient mysteries, and dangers beyond imagination. But Xiao Yu will not stop. He will find answers. He will ensure humanity’s flame is not extinguished.

The journey into the unknown begins now.

Was pretty excited when I found this story. You don't get many stories about travelling the stars rather than just being a sci-fi version of a medieval fantasy.

The author creates quite interesting alien lifeforms and problems for the character, and it's always a pleasure to discover them and their strange quirks. But frankly, the good bits kinda end there.

The protagonist is portrayed as a one-of-a-kind genius, being generations ahead of everybody else. But somehow he can't convince even one person about the immanent destruction of Earth? Nobody is willing to... more>> look at his discoveries and simply ignores them?

Well fine, it's the premise. A few flaws in the premise is fine.

But then, the moon suddenly jumps orbit from Earth's debris field then speeds up several times and heads towards Jupiter, and the MC only thinks something is wrong because it's unlikely to happen, not flat out ignoring the rules of known physics? Then he freaks out how the collision will cause some massive explosion that'll affect the entire solar system? Really? And when it happens, it glasses one side of Mars? The energy required to do that wouldn't be on the level of a collision between the moon and Jupiter, unless if the moon was flying at a significant percentage of the speed of light. The square cube law is extremely vicious when it comes to large distances. To radiate so much heat to glass Mars from such a distance, it would've had to vaporize Jupiter itself, not to mention its moons. Yet the MC tries to reach one of its moons later on?

Then there's
Spoiler

the MC wanting to get a close look at Jupiter so badly that he decides to do a flyby despite knowing he's taking a massive risk. Except it's established his ship can make stuff from raw materials, and he just picked up a ton. Send a probe! It's space exploration 101 to send probes first! It's cheap, easy, and low risk! Disposable probes is exactly what you use when going in yourself would be considered a risk!

[collapse]

Not to mention the rampant d*ck waving that the author does, showing off the MC being so amazing. I don't care if you made a million robots in two months. I want to read a story, not an accounting table about profits. Showing off your MC is fine, but do it as part of the plot, not while dryly describing what the character did during a time skip. I don't care how amazing your character ate over a thousand meals in a year. Don't make your readers read that sort of stuff.

Then there's also all the insults against and attempts at undermining the greats of human achievements.
Spoiler

Sending 12 satellites into orbit on a single rocket is not some great achievement. India did that on a shoestring budget in 2017, and even did 104 of them. SpaceX beat that record in 2021. The Space Shuttle regularly sent up multiple payloads to orbit in a single trip, so launching multiple items at once isn't even a recent development!

[collapse]

But I think the worst offender of the story is the author's need for extremely specific solutions to his problems and not considering the consequences of them.
Spoiler

I mean, using a hydrogen bomb against bugs that are attracted to heat sources to the point that the lemmings into flame thrower? He doesn't consider the possibility that the lake that they're coming form isn't the only place they live? That lighting up half the moon with a superheated ball of fire isn't going to send a hemisphere's worth of the things straight at him? Or even if somehow the nuke is a good idea, he's not willing to sacrifice his helicopter to drop the nuke and instead spends an extra five days to build an ICBM from scratch? When every minute counts during a losing battle? Frankly it's insane that he fixates so much on this solution when he's a living supercomputer. He can do decades worth of thinking in mere seconds if he wanted to. Instead, he just fixates on a single solution like this? It's even stated that he does hundreds of simulations and finds the best solution, yet his solutions are the sort that a panicking desperate man goes for because he has seconds to make a decision. Not decades of subjective time to ponder on the subject.

[collapse]

Either way, I loved the concept, and there's a lot of good ideas sprinkled around, but the degree of d*ck waving alone has become unbearable to me. All the science that he meticulously writes about, and is completely wrong
Spoiler

eg. Red/blue shifting only matters when you know what the original light source is supposed to look like. Without that knowledge, it's like saying 'the car is a colour, but the colour is too blue'

, or how he harps about human achievements and how his character does it better, only to be completely wrong and actual human achievements were even greater than what his character has done. <<less

I just begin reading the first chapter, and although it's a bit too early for a review, I have a few things to say.

I was going to give 4 star, but it's current average rating is just below that, so I gave 5 star.

Just reading the first chapter reminds of the Bobiverse, which told the story of a human who got turned into Von Neuman probe. This story has similar feeling as well as premise.

I'm also a writer, and I know just how hard it is to write a Sci-fi... more>> story without deep understanding of science. Even by just looking at the first chapter, I realize that the author is not very experienced at science when the novel was being written, at least since this is his first published novel according to the translator.

Still, it's off to a good start so far, and I will update my review once I read more.

I always have a soft spot for space exploration novel of this variety. <<less

I'm the translator of Rebirth of the Super Battleship, and I wanted to leave a review after seeing a 1-star review dropped right after Chapter 1. It's hard to judge any story, especially one with over 1000 chapters, based on a single chapter.

This novel was originally written in 2013. It's the author's first published work, and yeah, it shows in some of the early chapters. The science is loose, some explanations might raise an eyebrow, and there's a fair amount of hand-waving when it comes to realism. The author even... more>> addresses this directly in a later note, saying flat out that this is a story meant to be enjoyed as fiction, not picked apart technically.

That said, there's a reason I chose to translate this one. Despite the flaws, there's a really compelling sense of scale and progression. The story follows a scientist who uploads his consciousness into a spaceship right before Earth is destroyed. What starts as a small-scale survival story slowly grows into a galaxy-spanning journey full of alien civilizations, tech trees, space battles, and exploration.

I'm a long-time sci-fi reader, and it's hard to find books in this genre that actually hold my attention. This one does. It's not perfect, but it's consistently engaging, and there's a reason it became one of the most popular Chinese sci-fi novels. In fact, once I've finished translating this one I plan on translating his latest work which is another cool sci-fi with an interesting premise.

It's far from perfect, especially early on, but it's not trying to be flawless. It's trying to tell a big, sprawling story. And for what it is, it does that well. <<less

I’ve been reading this translator’s work lately, and when I saw they were working on this novel, I figured I’d give it a shot. I was honestly stunned by how good it is. Yh, the beginning throws you right in, and at first you’re just sitting there like, What the hell is going on? But it picks up quickly, and before I knew it, I was hooked. I really didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did.

You can tell the author put a lot of thought and research... more>> into the story. I don’t have a science background, but even I can appreciate the depth and effort that went into building the universe. As a sci-fi fan, this feels like a proper, high-quality space opera. Everything feels big, planets feel like actual planets, and solar systems feel vast and real.

That’s something a lot of Chinese sci-fi stories miss, where interstellar travel ends up feeling more like the characters are just hopping between cities. But in this novel, it genuinely feels like you’re exploring the Milky Way.

I’ve seen someone nitpicking the science, but honestly, I don’t really get why. It’s a story, after all. It doesn’t bother me if the science or math doesn’t add up perfectly. I’m used to reading novels where entire continents have trillions of cultivators and are the size of galaxies lol, so this is actually way more grounded in comparison.

I will say, the beginning is definitely the weakest part. It’s a bit chaotic and hard to follow. But once the other civilizations start getting introduced, the story really comes into its own and improves dramatically. It's a solid 4.7 for me so far, definitely give it a shot if you’re a sci-fi fan. <<less

The premise is reasonably interesting, but the author doesn't know crap for science.

They think the Earth's moon smacking into Jupiter at 137 kilometers per hour (less than 1% of the speed of light) would have a significant effect on the Solar System. Jupiter is about 2500 times more massive than the moon AND it's a gas giant (so I would expect it to absorb impacts much more than a rock planet does).

Without clear reasoning explained by the author I can't believe that impact would even allow a significant amount of... more>> mass to be blasted away from Jupiter. Certainly it wouldn't kick up a large amount of radiation that requires the MC to hide their spaceship behind Mars to use it as a radiation shield...

The author is clearly writing about things that they don't understand at all. <<less

This is amazing. The science isn't 100% accurate, but it's still based on logic and there's an aspect of research and discovery that I love to see in things I read.

For people with a typical Sci-fi lexicon who like following the process of discovery, this work is a godsend.

That said, the pacing/development is off. The MC is constantly facing threats beyond his means, and an unfortunate aspect of fate/luck was added to the story, which kinda invalidates the MC's efforts... if all his discoveries can be attributable to some sort... more>> of cosmic luck, then what's special about the MC other than some universal blessing?

Minor spoiler about the universe:
Spoiler

For some reason, killing beings from other civilizations gives another civilization more luck. This means that you don't really see civilizations co-existing peacefully, which is a bit sad.

[collapse]
This makes it so every interaction with other civilizations has a subtext of danger, which really limits the story.

The story also features superluminal travel/communication, which the story kinda tiptoes around the time-travel consequence of that.

I will add that for people who don't find research and discovery entertaining, this whole work will probably feel like a series of excruciating info dumps. I'm not saying I feel that way, but that I'm sure some who don't know what they're getting into will. <<less
