“Then why don’t I marry you!” Yu Dong suddenly proposed.

“You…” Xia Feng thought he had misheard.

“You see, you’re looking for someone to marry to ease your mother’s heart, and I also want to get married. We’re right in front of the doors to the Civil Affairs Bureau, and with all our papers too!” Yu Dong exclaimed while holding up her red household book.

“And the most important thing is that we just broke up with our exes. This is fate, ah!”

Right up until they left the Civil Affairs Bureau again, holding a newly registered red book, Xia Feng remained dazed still wondering, how did he end up getting married?

Did he just pick up a wife at the doors to the Civil Affairs Bureau?

What Xia Feng doesn’t know is that Yu Dong traveled back in time from 10 years in the future.

Now, having a second chance in life and able to secure a good husband, Yu Dong will live her life at full throttle and without regrets.

Verdict: Simple yet very effective!

The good parts

Spoiler

1. Theme: I love the theme of this novel. It reminds us that people are connected to each other, that we should all help each other out.

2. The slow burn: The mature love of MC and ML. They built their relationship stone by stone.

3. The exes: They are not zero to psychos. Are they jerks? Yes. But they are not your typical villains.

4. The radio portion: The callers are hilarious!

5. The FRIENDSHIP!: I LOVE THE FRIENDSHIP HERE! Out of all the CN novels I've read, this is one of the best! You see, this shows how adult friendship works; by reaching out and making time even though you have life and everything in between. The chaotic duo: Dong and Xiaoyue! And the last remaining braincells of the group: The sweet Xinxin <3

6. The possible spin offs: I am so invested on this side stories!

7. Xinxin: I love her!

[collapse]

The meh parts:

Spoiler

1. I am more inclined with the side characters/stories:

  • Black-bellied school prince X drunk caller: I am so invested! I wish they showed the wedding!
  • Xinxin X Beggar/Alien dude: Spin off please!
  • Qin Yue X Xiaoyue: THESE TWO! Chaotic couple goals!

2. I wish there is more of a definitive ending where it was really shown what life has been like for all the characters. The ending is really good but It's quite hard to puzzle the pieces.

[collapse]

Overall: An easy and good read! Perfect for days where you just want an easy read. <<less

This is a worthy read! I was hesitant because of the summary (because I am in a read-too-many-books-and-everything-seems-boring-now funk) but it turned out to be really really good!

Yu Dong was a single successful career woman in her thirties who was rebirth back to the day she was dumped at the Civil Affairs Bureau. After experiencing a lonely life in her past life, she decided to marry Xia Feng who was also jilted by his girlfriend. She then decided to pursue a career in broadcasting, as a midnight DJ, where she... more>> changes the lives of people call by call.

The story stared off comedic where the quirky Yu Dong meets the introverted Xia Feng. It later progresses into something more heartwarming where we get to understand more about our main lead and the various ideals of people. This is a story with themes of the problems faced by the common people, family and heartwarming relationships. There is also a focus on the theme of single women in their thirties and the societal and familial pressure faced by them.

Overall, it is a sweet and interesting read. It does not simply focus on the romance (like those 100% fluff yaoi stories >< you know wha I'm talking about) but also very human problems and conflicting ideals. Since it's such a short read, give it a go! The side stories are really good too (not sure what to feel about the last one though). <<less

I'm kind of surprised of the high rating so I hope that this review will help some of you to know if it's worth reading or not.

The story has a great starting (around 30 first chapters) with an absurde first meeting but still an interesting one. Our FL (Yu Dong) is shown as a badass and charismatic woman who's really clever, funny and workaholic and it shows for three reasons:

    • Even if ML (Xiao Feng) is busy with his work and his reseaches, she doesn't mind because she's also busy and won't complain about not having enough attention from him while trying to pursue him.
    • She can be very efficient at work,
      Spoiler

for example when it comes to meeting people for important contracts she's very great at it.

      [collapse]
The fact that she has a great memory of her past life is really great and helping too.
    • Her work as a radio host are parts of the story that I truly liked and where we can see how clever and kind she truly is, she's enjoying her job and is truthfully willing to do her best to be a good person.
FL and ML had great dynamics, FL teasing ML was something that I enjoyed and FL truly enjoyed it too (maybe too much, as she should though). They both respect that they're both busy and still trusting each other.

They also both have great friends, mostly FL because it seems like ML is more of the introvert side (it's actually said in the actual novel and that's not totally wrong). FL's interactions with them is always funny and it shows how much they trust them.

The second part of the novel though was a mess and it started when the writing process changed...? I don't know how was Sister Crab (author's name is Grumpy Crab) influenced by but the writing became a bad drama writing style that influenced not only the story but also their characters and that's where I'm gonna argue a lot with spoilers so be prepared, the first one is the one that I truly couldn't forget and that is the most important in my eyes.

    • Spoiler

When they had s*x for the first time (and even for the others by the way) it has no consent, it wasn't too explicit but they actually did it (like beasts I'm not lying) and then ML said that he forgot to use a c*ndom?! How can you forget and say it after the act? It's dangerous! FL's reaction was even worse because she said that like this they would try to have a child together...? I understand that they're h*rny but please protect yourself first...? It also has this time when one of ML's patient died and their family were mad at him for "killing" him, she just assaulted her and then said sorry and I'm like why? His character was so calm and great, why would you do that? Maybe she was into it but I wouldn't be able to accept it. FL was a strong woman but when she realized her feeling for ML and that they accept their mutual feelings, her brains became so mushy that she would accept anything from him, even this. ML truly was so bad written in these scenes that I wish I could forget them.

      [collapse]
    • Spoiler

When they met FL's parents for the first time, some people would laugh at it and I can understand but my feeling wasn't the same... I thought that they were too extra? Is that truly a thing? To this point? I really disliked it and felt embarassed for the whole 3 chapters with them.

      [collapse]
    • Spoiler

That ending was so rushed? Why the rush when we waited for them to truly marry eachother since the first chapter? Truly disappointed.

      [collapse]
    • It was just boring and it shows that the author just wanted to finish her story.
The only things that I liked about this second part (without counting extra chapters) is three things:

    • Our protagonists first kiss, I admit that the way they fell in love was somehow unsure but their first kiss was a cute scene and after that we were able to receive some good lovey-dovey moments.
    • Spoiler

An An came back to China at some point and ML decided to be really honest and direct with her and I really liked that about him. He admited how their relationship went (truly bad with a lot of minsunderstanding and bad communication) and that the more he was with her, the more heartbroken he was. Time just broke them and it was said wonderfully. It would be perfect if ML knew about consents though.

      [collapse]
An An (ML's ex) has the right to do her work and ML just wasn't made for her because they were reaching for different futures.
    • FL's friends being happy was truly a blessing. Since we follow them since the start (and that their interaction somehow were more interesting than ML and FL), seeing them being healthy and happy is something that I truly liked.
      Spoiler

Ren Xinxin being a mother of a wonderful little girl Ling Dang ; Xing Xiaoyue being with Qin Yue and having a good dynamic together,

      [collapse]
we just didn't have enough of them and only saw them when drama or super good things was here (not spacially work related, sad because it was the only moments that I truly appreciated reading since chapter one).
I also hated some other characters, but they truly were made to be hated anyway so I won't say anything about them. I think that's all I can say for now. Even if I rated it 2, it's actually 2, 4.

Quite a down to earth story about trio of best friends and their life. Yes, I think that there is more then 1 MC. It’s just how I feel it here, but it’s not bad. Each character is quite nice.

Not much of drama here. Slice of life as it is. Quite a relaxing read. I didn’t see much of fluff, so I do not consider it as a fluff story. Not dark, not overly dramatic.

What I like in this story is the relationship of main pairs, ML parents, and episodic... more>> side stories when our Fish Jelly is on radio. It really get a whole different vibe with this small stories, especially that each of them had its own ending. Really nice. This author knows how to right fillings and it’s nice.

In general, nothing impressive but also not a bad read. <<less

The last chapter is so weird lol It's really out of the genre. But the rest is heartwarming and satisfying.

You will not regret reading it and it's short. I encourage others who are still hesistant to read it.

I really like the couple, Yu Dong and Xia Feng. Yu Dong is really lovable and mature so it's not really suprising that Xia Feng fell in love with her.

And it's funny. 'Cause the scenes are light, not the usual dramas that are just completely infuriating (a real bullsh*t that makes you wonder... more>> why people are so narrow minded and s*upid). But nonetheless, there were plenty of scenes that made me cry silly happy or hurt.

It could be said that they are an ideal couple. I am actually amazed because they were so busy and yet, it seems like there weren't any heartwrenching moments. Really envious of them. Instead of the couple being too mature and cold, they were still lovey dovey for a long time.

Well, thank god that their son was smart and stayed warm hearted even though the son admitted it himself that he lacked attention from his parents, so he sulked silently and bearingly. It just made you wonder how a child have such good up bringing.

Anyways, Im happy for them! <<less

I have just finished reading this novel and couldn't help but share my thoughts here. My comment may have some spoilers, so please read it at your own risk.

I read this story only because I found it in many lists named "fluffy romance novels" etc. And the comments which said it was a sweet story. And it is.٩ (*❛⊰❛) ʓਡ~❤

If you want a light read without much angst, then go for it.

Some novels make you think deeply about certain things and feel emotions just because you find the situations in... more>> that story so relatable. As they say that, masterful writers don't just show characters emoting and expect readers to feel the same feelings. For me, this story had so many lines which made me pause and read them again. It evoked a hint of that same feeling for me because I or the surrounding people had experienced what the characters were going through. Those mini-stories of people who called the FL in her night show were quite interesting and thought-provoking too.

I had some questions that I thought I would get answers for as I kept reading the story, but the story ended, and I still don't have my answers, or maybe I missed those parts in which those things were explained, or maybe the author didn't find it important to add those details in the story.

Spoiler

So the first thing I was quite curious about is how did the FL die in her last life? And at what age she died? We read that in her 30s she was a lonely single lady who stopped contacting her married friends and going home because she wasn't able to find her Mr. Right. But what happened afterward? Had she lived till her 70s or 80s and died alone? Or did she die in her 30s? I kept thinking about this. Lol

[collapse]

Another thing was that what usually happens in "rebirth/transmigration/reincarnation" stories is that near the end of the story FL tells the ML about her rebirth. But in this story, nothing like that happened. I was looking forward to this part, though. : ( (It would have taken their relationship to another level. Well, that's what I thought.

Let's talk about the Male lead.

Overall, he was perfect, but there were certain situations that I wished he would have handled differently.

Spoiler

Like that one time, he met his ex-GF in America and failed to tell her that he is married. They met again and he told her that, but she didn't take it seriously and even he didn't try to say it again. Then when he bought lipsticks for the FL aka his wife his ex-gf thought that those were for her and took them and he didn't even stop her because she was with her friend, and he didn't want to embarrass her. Even though he messaged her afterward to tell her that those weren't for her, but I felt that it didn't have the desired effect. I bet the ex-gf thought that he was angry/throwing a tantrum of some sort and that she would be able to pacify him. And that's the reason she returned to the country and tried to get together with him again by appearing in front of him wearing the diamond ring he had given her.

I felt that if he had made things clear with his ex-gf during his 3 months stay in the USA, then everything that happened afterward wouldn't have occurred. And at one point FL made him promise that he would tell her if he met his ex-gf and his response was that would it hurt you if I told you that? And when she said yes, he said that then I won't tell you. Dude WTH. Why are you even thinking about meeting your ex-gf? Stop meeting her, make her realize that you are a married man now and that you both have no chance to get back together. Men. Smh

[collapse]

Let's talk about the baby thing.

Spoiler

So the first time they had s*x was the night he purposed. And the second time they had s*x was in the shower a few weeks after and at that time he forgot to "wear the cond*m". And then FL said that do you like children. I do. Oh, you do too. Then let's have children. They made a baby that night. They also had unprotected s*x after that day several times. And when she actually got pregnant, he said that let's wait for two to three years to have a kid (they were not aware of her pregnancy at that time). Dude, you should have thought of this before you forgot to cover your willy. I felt the pregnancy part rushed.

[collapse]

Two things that I found disappointing were that the side characters had their stories which were quite interesting, but the author didn't focus much on them. I wanted to read more about them. And the second thing is that I felt that main characters didn't get to spend much time together because of the workaholic ML. He was always in the hospital or laboratory, but the FL never complained about it. Her patience and love is quite admirable. <<less

Bravo. Standing ovation. Very deserving of its 733 five-stars votes 😍

It's still early but I'd vote that five-stars just for this dialogue:

[ "What do you mean lay hands, they're in love!"

... more>> "No, it's just hooliganism!" ]

I cracked up so hard I decided to vote a full five-stars right away. Now I regret why I always put off reading this gem before lol

Read this, the story is great even if you're not a fan of whirlwind romance and the translation is superb.

Beware of the dark undertone, though. This novel tackled quite a lot of social problems with unconventional solutions. <<less

This was a wonderful story.

In this genre, character relationships often do not seem to be realistic.. Typically we see a lot of the common troupes such as the "overbearing CEO", "cold-tempered prince", "tsundere main characters", or the "overly spoiling characters". Don't get me wrong I love to read those novels when I'm in the mood too!

But this novel, it is definitely refreshing!

The Main Character is much more mature and actually acts her mental age, which in a way gives her more charm to the Male Lead as he's older. Personally... more>> I think this is why they mesh so well together.

Spoiler

You can tell this because in the novel, the author shows his thoughts of her as thinking that she's worldly and mature at many times. In the beginning we see him having a misconception about her not being mature--thinking she was impulsively marrying because of her spoilt relationship that ended similar to his.. He even worries about the age gap and wonders if she treated their marriage was a spur of the moment fling.. Afterall, from his perspective, she is a fresh college graduate at the age of 22. But after interacting with her and getting to know her better, he eventually starts to see that she is more mature than her age.

[collapse]

MC x ML relationship stews over time, which is pragmatic. In reality, this is how relationships go. There isn't a "love at first sight" concept in this story and to me, that seems more real because love is like this for most people.

Granted, the condition that they married may not seem to be realistic.. I believe their impulse decision to get married is. From the standpoint of the ML's past relationship--he was exhausted and he just wanted to get married and be in a stable relationship. In my opinion, he was willing to gamble that he could build that type of relationship with a stranger.

Spoiler

ML and his ex-girlfriend didn't have much time spent together because ex-gf was busy pursing her career and assumed he would be inexhaustible. She put their relationship on a backhold, while the ML did his best to pursue her and even proposed three times, all getting rejected for a variety of reasons. He put in more effort and catered to her wishes very often, which in the end might have caused her to take him for granted. Both of them lacked communication, and had their own misunderstandings. In a way, ex-gf seemed to be pressured by his ideals of wanting a loving relationship like his parents. And for that, I am not putting the pit on the ex-gf, a relationship takes two to tango.

But lets talk from the stand-point of the ML, imagine being rejected three times after proposing.. His heart must have torn so much to the point where even when he was in front of the Civil Affairs Bereau, he must've not actually wanted to marry her and proposed the ultimatum as a way to project that he wanted to end. Even the point where he agreed to marry the MC spontaneously, can be viewed as him being exhausted in his past relationship and just wanted to find an out and get married.

Like some of the other reviewers believe, I don't think a marriage with his ex would have survived. They had different goals and priorities and would have continued to clash and hurt each other.

ML prioritized family, wanted to get married, and hoped that his parents could meet his future wife. While ex-gf wasn't considerate because she claimed that she could meet the parents later and get married after her dreams were achieved. She prioritized her own feelings over the fact that the ML was scared about his mother's surgery (50% risk). The biggest thing that struck me here is.. If she wanted to put their relationship on hold at this point, then what if something had gone wrong and ML's mother passed---how could she live on knowing she never met her future husband's mother? In short, I believe she never wanted to get married to the ML as she didn't consider her future with him or his family.. Putting her goals first and their relationship on a backburner... Unwillingness to compromise... Is that really love? Haha, I really didn't want to put her in the pit but she ended up there haha..

In the end, ex-gf realizes that MC suits ML better than herself and she redeems herself by reminding herself that she missed out on a wonderful man. Even though it was quite petty to do this by keeping the diamond ring of the man who she rejected three proposals.

[collapse]

From the perspective of the MC, as a modern Chinese woman in the 21st century, there's really a lot of pressure and stereotype of being a "left-over woman" in China's culture. It's mentally exhausting and often times parents can hurt their children under the intentions of love. I think the novel does a splendid job of conveying this subject as, it isn't just MC's past life that took a mental hit but also, another character from her hometown suffered the same mental torture. Which is why I can say that it's simply the most realistic that given the condition that since she was reborn at 22, she just wanted to get married as soon as possible to avoid a bad relationship with her family. She was really hurt for many years..

With the same intentions of our ML, she just wanted to have the opportunity to be in a stable relationship. Thus she "interviewed" our ML of his age, living conditions, and career. It's funny because she did this like a speed blind date. (Granted her reasoning for giving ML an opportunity to be "interviewed" because he ends up famous is shallow haha! The results eventually turned out with a Happy Ending in the end.)

Spoiler

The novel further potrays MC's desperation through her experience of being pressured by her family, where the relationship between mother and daughter strained to the point where she would not go home in fear of being nagged, criticized, or getting set-up with someone she doesn't love. She was in the end, alone because of this, and that loneliness gave her the mental damage that spurred her to simply marry someone (with suitable conditions) off the street. In fact, I'm not surprised she treated it like a speed blind date. She was already exhausted with all of the blind dates with people that didn't meet her conditions of "suitable" in her past life, and given the opportunity.. She jumped at the chance of doing it with the ML.

[collapse]

In this novel, it emphasized that love isn't a one-way endeavor. It's not inexhaustible. One should not take their other half for granted. Both parties should be willing to compromise and put an effort in the relationship.

The novel does a wonderful job of showing us that communication is necessary between lovers, friends, and family. Respect to the author--because even the side characters experiences help with conveying that.

Additionally, I love how MC takes a step and reflects on her experiences and spreads her warmth to others. The story even shows how much she cherished life through her persuasion to others that there is always hope.

Spoiler

There are many instances where she does this through her job as a radio broadcaster, but I believe the most meaningful instance was where she saved a young man's life by persuading himself a chance, despite his parents believing him to eventually become a pe*verted psychopathic killer like his dreams. Ironically his dreams caused him to become a genius in the horror industry, and he stopped having the dreams as soon as he wasn't pressured and he gained people who believed in him.

[collapse]

Anyway, even the side characters experiences are really meaningful in this story.

Thus, I highly recommend this novel. Especially for those seeking an enjoyable novel with more mature characters, this is the one for you!

There isn't really any dog-blood drama in this one, and even the antagonists seem to be resolved pretty steadily. This novel is good for those weak of heart. The author doesn't ab*se us!!! (Okay.. Maybe just a tiny bit of ab*se. Otherwise how can there be plot and character development and contrast haha.)

Mad shoutout to the translator! Thanks for picking this novel, it's a gem and deserves to be read all around!

The only regret I have..

Spoiler

I really wish there was an epilogue where the MC could openly tell ML about her past life, whether that be when they're old or maybe even during the main story.. The novel teaches us about respect and communication between the two, but I feel like the main reason the MC is who she is.. Is because of her past life. Granted, rebirth is not realistic and some could be considered strange or even delusional, but I believe the author could have set it around something cliche like.. "Do you believe in past lives?" Or "I had a dream.

Although it seems cliche, it would've been really meaningful to see an interaction like this showing how much the main character trusted her hubby and wanted to share her past with him.

[collapse]

Some last remarks...

Spoiler

Although the novel never tells us why she was reborn, I believe that the reason she was brought back was because of her loneliness. She may or may not have been depressed in her past life, given that she was struggling without the warmth of her family and alone in the end. I speculate that her rebirth was to give her an opportunity to find love and redeem what she missed out on her past life. And with that being said, I'm okay with this not being declared and left open-ended.

Hello, first time writing a review, the story for me is smooth sailing which is gladdening for me, no major problem only a few understanding, the male lead got confused at first and then started to like the MC, while the MC is straight forward at first and later became more like her age, not like a rebirth novel who acted like they are old I get it the soul is old but they are rebirth so act like one, oh yeah at the start MC don't clear the missunderstanding... more>> (which you will know what its) only at the afterstories did the missunderstanding will be cleared, the amount of lovey dovey and understanding of ML and MC is great and make you want to cry to at late chapter, anyway one of my enjoyment that I managed to finish at only one days, which is the day I write this review <<less

Others have already covered so many good parts of this novel, so I'm going to point out something different.

This novel was extremely refreshing for me to read. There are many common features you see in a lot of novels that tend to be just... bad. Novel after novel will do them, and every time it makes the novel worse. However this novel actually does many of those things that so often cause me to sigh and prepare for a bad section of a novel... but does them really well. It... more>> proves that these basic ideas are not bad, but rather the common execution of them.

For example, the side characters here are really well fleshed out and if you were to go and work out the percentage of words spent on them rather than the ML/FL relationship directly I think most readers would be surprised at how high it is. So many novels do this sort of thing and it just ends up feeling like pointless filler. But! This novel does it really well. It uses the time spent with others to dive deeper into the main focus of the novel. Despite the fact the scene is about the ML or FL spending time with their friends, it's all in service of further our understanding of the main relationship. This sort of perspective change is really, really powerful. It's great to see a novel actually use the tool properly. It's wonderful, really.

One thing worth noting is that the ending is rather abrupt, and it just kind of flames out with a whimper. The very end is a rather major event that isn't majorly built up to, but seems important enough to even get a few detailed chapters. Instead it's all very glossed over. I thought this was pretty weird while reading it, and then suddenly discovered that was the end of the novel. It's definitely the weakest part of the novel overall. The story of the ending is fine, even the place where it ends is fine, but the execution is just weirdly poor. It's not really enough to warrant knocking off a star, but if half stars were a thing... <<less

It's a great story, even though the start are a bit complicated, especially the part when they both have to explain their relationship to their respective parents. But it's cool though, and there are a lot of motivational and encouragement moments. This novel is short, doesn't have many dispute or misunderstanding, and certainly doesn't have many dog's blood. But IT DOES served a lot of dog food haha.

Anyway, the only thing I can complaint about this novel is it isn't long enough. I am not satisfied enough ah!

I'm... kinda mixed on this one. On the one hand, we have a gentle ML (ikr?? Thank heavens!!! A rare gem!!) but then we have a brash, almost callous FL due to her actually being 30 years old mentally. FL seems okay at first, but most times she's just blurting out whatever lol

There are touching moments and poignant ones when they talk about s*icide and being a leftover woman and other pressing societal issues, I liked those but those topics are kind of glossed over since I think there were... more>> a lot of things the author wanted to touch upon.

Thinking of dropping cos it's getting kinda draggy? <<less

I don't typically write reviews but I really wanted to for this novel! To be honest, I agree that the reincarnation trope is not used stereotypically nor the reason behind ever revealed, but this trope was useful in letting YuDong, our MC, to really appreciate and connect with those around her. In her second life, the MC reunites with old friends and meets new ones, particularly her husband who feeds the people around them a lot of fluff. Initially, he plays the 'shy' role while YuDong is more vocal; this... more>> reversal of roles is refreshing. Frankly, it's the interactions between all the characters that bring the novel to life. Each of them are well-developed and endearing; some of them left me chuckling while some really gives readers the feels.

If you're interested in a slice of life that's sweet, occasionally serious, and comical, then you'll enjoy this fun read. I literally binged it all in a day :) <<less

I could totally reread this a thousand times. It’s really really good.

ML and FL have amazing personalities and really suit each other, the romance is slow but at a pace which suits their circumstances and it is really heartwarming.

Side characters are well written and add a plus to the story. Their relationships which the leads are good too. Even the antagonist (ex-girlfriend) is well written and it’s unlikely that you will hate anyone.

... more>> The story flows nicely and the romance too, it’s slow but steady and it’s really fluffy.

The only downside is that the beginning is superb and the FL is amazing but as the story develops she loses her fierceness but she’s still really lovable. <<less

The story was really well put together. There were no overdramatic revenges, nor any hard face-slapping and yet it was very satisfying to read. The FL is charismatic and strong, for once we actually get a FL that doesn't overly depend on the ML. The ML on the other hand is very refreshing. Different from the overbearing CEO type, ML is the refreshing, kind and gentle type.

The contrast between the headstrong, independent FL and gentle and lovely ML creates this sweet and fluffy romance that you can't help but dig... more>> in to. The radio show that the FL hosts actually became one of the highlights for me. The stories were sweet and actually did fruit into something at the end. I just love this. 10/10 would recommend. <<less
