There once was a very popular question on the internet:

If one morning, you woke up and realized that your gender had changed, what would be your first reaction?

And someone on the internet had famously responded:

First, give your bros a good time!

Su Jian remembered that when he saw this reply, he had slapped the table to express his admiration. What a good bro! Such loyalty!

But now that he actually encountered this strange situation himself, he could only feel an extremely ball-breaking alarm, shocked grief, and frightened anger. f*ck your mom! Ah, f*ck! f*ck it!

Oh, a correction. The above is grammatically incorrect. After all, poor Classmate Su Jian doesn’t have balls anymore.

MC is driving force of the story. (MC refers to himself as "he" throughout the story although he turned into a "she" in the start of the story, so I am going to continue referring to him as "he".) He adds a lot of humor to the story and really sets the pace. He is kind of oblivious, yet at the same time shamelessly uses his feminine wiles (teary eyes, soft voice) to get what he wants. I think one of the things I liked most is that despite ML... more>> having a past unrequited love, he lets himself fall in love without the usual (and frankly annoying, especially when they aren't well-written) internal conflicts. I really like the extras about MC reuniting with his family from his first life. MC's brother from the first life really deserved it. As someone with siblings, I know I would have been heartbroken if (god forbid) I went through what the MC's brother did. So, I am really glad that MC's bro also got a happy ending. <<less

If you're looking for a cute fluffy story with gender bending as the main theme but not without drama or serious romance and some consummating actions as the fruit of love, this is for you. This is one of the rare gender-bender series that I consider the character development is very realistic, the other one is the The Promotion Record of A Crown Princess. It is probably because of the modern settings that we are already used to.
Spoiler

The extra story feels a little bit out of place, but not overly so

I really am not a fan of the gender-bender genre. Sure, I enjoy stories where the MC disguises as a man (either because of obligation, or simply for concenience) very much. I like the ones where the MC behaves like a strong manly man too. I am actually a huge fan of these tropes! It creates very interesting (though cliché) situations. It's fun when the ML is unaware the MC is actually a woman, or when he is aware but hides it from her, or even when they both know... more>> the truth but have to hide it from others. It also creates several opportunities for the couple to have heart-throbbing moments together and develop their relationship.

While I truly like this trope, I don't like it very much when the main character actually changes his/her gender. It's kind of hard to sympathize with their change of heart, or adapting to their situation. I don't like yaoi/yuri either because I simply like reading heart-warming and fluffy romance stories with straight couples. So I was simply reading this to have fun with funny characters and slapstick comedy, not expecting much in the romance aspect. It surprisingly exceeded my expectations, and it was a much cuter and fluffier romance story than I imagined. While I like it when the MC is shy and dense, I like it when she is blunt and headstrong too! And it was very fun to read the monologues of this pe*verted, lively, blunt and hilarious fe (?) male lead. While I still had a hard time accepting his change of s*xual orientation, his sincerity, and the naivety and pure love of the ML made me forget it startlingly fast! Their intimate actions are really cute, and I can't help adoring the ML for his affection and devotion. The development of their relationship is just ideal paced and I am very satisfied with their hilarious and passionate interaction. While it was really hard for me to get in terms with the truth that the MC was actually a man in heart, I guess his quick adaptation was convincing enough to help me digest it. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a fun, quick, light-hearted and lovely romance, whether you originally like gender-bender or not.

Spoiler

Throughout the whole story, I had two simple anticipations. One of them was Su Jian's reunion with his family, and I was more than happy to read it come true with the side stories! My only regret is that Su Jian didn't tell An Yize about his rebirth, even at the end. I really anticipated that very much but sadly it didn't happen. I think An Yize would gladly accept the truth, contrary to Su Jian's fears. And their relationship would be more solid, without misunderstandings nor regrets. Even though Su Jie said it was OK for a husband and wife to have one or two secrets, I still can't help thinking such a heavy truth shouldn't be kept hidden from one's spouse, no matter how hard it is to tell. It feels very incomplete when the story ends without An Yize ever learning the truth! Ugh, I just have to bear with my frustration and move on to a new story.

This is my first review on this website so I'll keep it simple and free of spoilers.

As an avid reader of Gender Bender stories, I've come across many stories where the "male" lead wakes up one day only to find that they are now the female lead. Unfortunately, many stories fail to expand on this concept in a way that is intriguing and sometimes the reader even questions why there is even the gender bender tag as there is virtually no difference if the "male" lead was originally female.

Reborn as... more>> My Love Rival’s Wife stands out among other stories using a similar concept as it approaches this idea in a fascinating way while providing plenty of comical moments for readers to enjoy. Do not be mistaken, it is lighthearted and humorous for the most part, but the parts where the main female lead Su Jian experiences a dilemma within due to the difference between (his? Her? Let's go with his) his former gender and his current gender is written quite realistically for a character that has lived nearly 30 years as a normal male.

Apart from the Gender Bender aspects, the jokes and the romance are also worth mentioning as well. You might find yourself rolling on the floor laughing while reading one chapter and then squealing like a little girl in another. It's all thanks to the beautiful relationship of and the interesting interactions between Su Jian and the male lead An Yize.

Apart from that, the translator does a wonderful job. There are very few (if any) errors to be found and the translator manages to capture the character of Su Jian perfectly through her thoughts and dialogue despite the work being translated and there are always explanations for references that add to the experience.

One of the downsides that I can think of is that the plot itself isn't exactly exciting or filled with drama so it might bore some people out (I admit I was slightly bored around halfway through so I'm guilty of this too hehe but I'm glad I finished it) though I think it's more than made up for by the other aspects.

If I had to give a lay out for the rating then:

Story/Plot: 4.5/5

Characters: 5/5

Humor: 5/5

Romance: 5/5

Translator: 5/5

Overall: 4.9/5.0

Wow this ended up much longer than I intended. Anyway, give it a chance and I assure you, you won't regret it! Even if you are not really into Gender Bender stuff, I think this one is interesting enough to give it a try even so (think of it as an introduction to a new genre or something like that) Of course, I'm not forcing you to read it. This is just my honest opinion. <<less

I don't know how I end up here. I don't like romance nor gender bender. But it is sweet and fluffy, loads of hilarious misunderstanding and a lot of pampering.

But it gets repeated and I got tired of MC dumbness. Also, they're married for half a year, sleep together for a few months, and the ML loves the MC, so why haven't the ML *ahem* done what he should have done? I really doubt his *ahem* ability. And if you start the "he wants to cherish her and make her... more>> loves him" conversation then I just say it is flat out unrealistic. But the ML is already unreal anyway... <<less

I really like it!! The MC is so funny and the situation he's in is simply hilarious! I can already tell that the next chapters are gonna be very funny ♥ ♥.

The translation is very good, and the two chapters are well structured. So I really recommend it, even thought I hope for the release to be much faster! Thank you very much for translating such a promising novel

I don’t know how this book has such a high rating. It’s the type where you can scroll down several paragraphs without reading and not have missed a single thing. If you are looking for a good romance, don’t read this book. The male lead is the only driving force in the relationship, and you have to continually watch his advances be met with a slap in the face from the main character. There is some comedy in having that relationship dynamic, but by chapter 60 the romance wasn’t really... more>> advancing, the comedy wasn’t actually funny, and the book felt like a chore to read. Don’t waste your time; I wouldn’t recommend. <<less

Read 5 chapters, continued to skim through a little, and decided that it's just not for me.

I don't have a real criticism because I couldn't feel anything for the characters, the comedy couldn't make me even smile, the story didn't interest me that much. It was surprisingly super average, like room temperature, I couldn't feel its existence.

Oh, I guess I can say I didn't enjoy the MC, didn't like his questions and comments about money, those long inner dialogues were empty and annoying... That's it.

I usually avoid Gender Bender novels as what happens in trope usually gets so repetitive. However, this novel is not boring at all and was not like other GB novels. It's good comedy and great romance. I especially like how we got a good chunk of MC having a dilemma with his gender identity and sexuality. The author did well at portraying his struggles. The romance is heartwarming and does not bore you.

I would definitely recommend this for others. It's a good fluff!

The MC is unique, funny, and rational.

The ML is handsome, wealthy, and caring.

The side characters are interesting and relatable.

The only problem I have is:

Spoiler

When the MC was drunk, the ML took advantage of the MC and deceived the MC into believing that they had s*x when in actuality they did not. I just really don't like manipulative MLs that create misunderstandings for the MCs. Even though I know the MC lowkey likes the ML too, the way the ML had to deceive the MC about sleeping together with him in order to make the MC feel guilty and stay with the ML feels cheap and disgusting. I don't know about any of y'all, but if ya can stand a slightly manipulative ML, then go for it. The story and translation is really good, but I just really couldn't stomach the ML's scheme to deceive the MC near the end, so that's why I subtracted 1 star. Everything was going well till the author tried to get the MC and ML together. I think the author could have used a better idea to make the MC confess to the ML or something instead of having ML play the guilt trap onto the MC and the typical drug aphrodisiac cliché. Besides the guilt, the MC was also drugged by someone and the ML happened to save him in time by having s*x with him to cure him of the drug's effects. The way the MC and ML got together at the end kind of ruined the story, but besides that, the novel is worth reading.

I LOVE THIS NOVEL! It's totally to my taste! The MC is HILARIOUS and the ML is so cute and deeply in love with the MC. The MC and ML are simply adorable and I would definitely read this again! It has the right amount of angst and mature content (not very dirty dirty, but its pretty good) and I highly suggest!

Well at first, I have decided to read it as the title is intriguing, then as time passes by with me reading this novel I realize that it is somehow interesting and kept wanting for more, the drama and was fun even more with An Yize and Su Jian's banters, I thought that I would have found it quite cringe and even hard to accept considering that he Su Jian was a "man", I thought it would be something where the MC would just accept his fate however it wasn't,... more>> making me love the fact that he does take the time to fully unravel the feelings that he has for the ML through the course of a year. Reading this has been fun for me tho it kind of gets hard to read at some point at the end as I would always spoil myself with the title of each chapter. By doing so it made me become prejudiced toward the chapter itself just based on the title I think it was chapter 70 or something, about how her ex finds out that their relationship is "fake". Anyways, as I come through the novel's end, it kind of felt melancholic as I am quite nearing its last chapters. The novel was so far good for me even the plot as it doesn't feel rushed, even more lovely is the personality of each character. Su Jian and An Yize's story would be something that I would like to read again for the first time, it is one among the thousands of novels that I have read that is written so well, straightforward and is fun to read, I hope to read something like this again. It is highly recommended, as it felt pure and lighthearted to read without much of a problem with having too much of a drama. Well to others it may seem as some sort of a s*upid novel especially the character of Su Jian being seemingly s*upid and naive which may irk others, however if you were looking for something basic and simple it should be this novel. <<less

Actually I adore this novel. It’s a hilarious genderbent novel with a lovably pure (not a schemer lol) and ‘manly’ MC dying and being reborn as Su Jian, a quiet scholarly woman who was in a contractual marriage with the ML for money.

Due to his accident, Su Jian just kept his regular personality, defrosting the ML’s personality who had past love trauma.

They are just a lovely pair, and honestly I was laughing almost every chapter and yet I could still feel how profound the emotions were between the two.

my only problem with this novel:

Spoiler

at one point the MC, not wanting to seem unwomanly, says he was watching soccer for the hot guys but the ML asks if Mario Barotelli on the screen is really his type who is then compared to an orangutan. Sigh. I know that colorism and racism is prevalent in east asia, but it still turns me off seeing these kind of offhand implications and jokes.

Other than that, it was an endearing and heartfelt novel that I enjoyed. <<less

So, I ventured into the world of gender-bender stories just once, and lo and behold, it's the only one I've read and ended up enjoying!

I stumbled upon this gem ages ago, way before I had an account here. I thought about revisiting it, but let's be real - I might not appreciate it the same way now, so I totally get why some folks found it bland for their liking. My theory? A lot of early readers, including yours truly, picked this up as one of our first novels. I... more>> was just riding the wave of its laid-back vibe! And being a comedy enthusiast, I had an absolute blast.

Sure, the main character can be a bit childish, but honestly, he had me laughing most of the time. Back then, gender-bender stories weren't exactly all the rage (for me), so reading this felt like discovering a hidden treasure! The story was super chill, focusing on the MC's transition and showcasing the hilariously awkward reactions of a guy turned into a girl.

Oh, and I loved when

Spoiler

MC came out to his former family about his past identity. His mom's reaction was a riot: "Eyyyy, I always wanted a girl anyway! *Shrugs*" LMAO!

[collapse]

The only thing I wish the author had done was clue the male lead in as well. But that moment with the MC's younger brother was comedy gold when the ML declared, "I love her like that. I just love her, " or something along that line and the bro's reaction was just 🤌🏻! Classic!

And let's not forget the ML: your quintessential brooding type. Serious, stoic, cold - yawn, right? But he does warm up to the MC eventually. Just a heads-up, though: I might be a little biased since I read this ages ago, so take my word with a pinch of salt! LOL!

Overall, I'd give it a solid 3.5! <<less

This was one of the first novels I read it on NU

It was quite a memory and newbie experience. It was a worth read for a newbie who just started reading novels. Especially since it is completely translated.

That time I felt the novel experience was aa breeze. A sweet inducing story with a lot to take.

... more>> But when I came and re read it. I realized there isn't much unique plot or twist or turns.

The plus point of this novels lies in the characters and their actions. When I first read it, I felt MC like a first crush who turns into a white moonlight. But rereading it, I realised that there were so many inadequacies in him and so many qualities which were unlikable. If I do read a novel like this today, I would be so harsh in my intake of him and list out my dislikes. But I do realise that it is what makes him more 3D. A human!! MC is quite childish!! And the premise of him treating ML as a rival but ML not even caring about his original existence is a sweet sore point to me. I seem to like it and dislike it at the same time. You know in college you do find someone who is good looking and studies well. There is only a little difference between you both. But both of you end up taking different paths in life, that the non existent gap suddenly widens. And at the end you know that the person doesn't even know you that much. The importance or position you gave them doesn't match with what they have for you in life.

MC's reaction initially felt childish. But I admire how he grows apart from it. From just that part to making something substantial out of their relationship.

ML is quite a green flag. I love their both relationship. And how ML supports MC all the way. Even after the reveal.

The big problem for me

Spoiler

I didn't like the way original owner was treated. And I think ML does have a hand in it. ML is a type of guy who goes with the flow. He is passive in a relationship. He isn't active. Since both parties were passive, they weren't compatible. ML should have given the original owner some reassurance. Inspite of everything said and done, I feel the original owner deserved better. She should have a happy ending. Especially since ML apart from being calm quite doesn't have much problems. They could have worked, if there was atleast 10 percent of sincerity and assurance from MLs side towards her out of the 100 percent he gave to our MC.

It's like after MC came, he gets enlightened through MC's efforts. Ofc the story did take time, both of them warmed up later as they got to know each other.

Again this is just from the emotional and sentimental pov of a relationship. After all as a husband ML never ab*sed the original owner and always gave her money and financial assurance. He never cheated. But a relationship needs more than just that, for two individuals to stand up as a pair and work together to have a family. In fact he was a green flag even then, but you need to provide some relationship base as in we are in this together. And the original owner too had problems not just ML.

This always is a weak point of transmigration and taking someone else's identity type of stories. The original owner always takes the bad end and brunt of the outcome. And some husband or wife or family makes a decision saying they forgive MC for taking over her dead wives body. When it isn't their own say!!

Anyway this is just me thinking from the original owners pov. Ofc she was a gentle soul, maybe she wouldn't think that, but it's just me getting frustrated from her pov. Frankly I didn't have this thinking before, but later on as I read many novels. It just clicked to me, that this story also used a cliche like that

[collapse]

All in all, the romance part!!

They boiled the frog for a while before plating it!!

It took the sweet time and there is something raw about this basic slice of life moments in their life that makes it all the more pretty. And I am glad they cleared up the gender bender part and how MC comes clean to ML. And how maturely ML handles it. It is indeed loving and endearing!!

For a first experience, great!! No angst!!

For a re read ok! Not many plot points to actually say, oh I came back for this. But a casual feel good romance to go to, to make your mood better. ☺ <<less

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the translator for bringing this masterpiece to us.

I'm a bit sad that this story has come to an end. "Reborn as My Love Rival’s Wife" was a memorable experience for me, especially because I love gender-bender romances where the protagonist ends up with a guy in the end (say no to yuri!). The premise, although simple, was engaging from start to finish. There aren't many twists throughout the story, but for me, that doesn't detract from its value.

The protagonist's... more>> journey, waking up in the body of a woman and having to navigate this new reality while maintaining a fake marriage with someone they initially dislike, was incredibly interesting. Even without big surprises, the character development and the way their relationship evolved kept everything captivating. <<less

I'm giving it 5 because for me, the point of a gender bender story is that the soul isn't lost even if the physical body is different. And all throughout the story, Su Jian remained a man in mind (though a bent man in the long run)... he may have changed but the core was still there-- the funny, blunt, idiotic him who prefers girls. In fact, reading as I did, I couldn't imagine him a girl at all, unless there were descriptions as such. But as there are more... more>> of his internal monologues, all I could picture was a tall handsome man who fell for another guy. This is what the author did perfectly. As for the plot and others, well I don't really care much. Any story that makes me laugh is definitely high on my list. <<less

This is good. I'm not really fond of GB novels at first but I thought that I should give this a try, and I'm glad I did.

The MC or FL (since it's GB) is hilarious while the ML is gentle and doting.

This story was sweet and slow which made me feel the progress of their relationship more. There are readers who don't find slow-burn novels interesting but I think that we have to be patient especially in the MC's (FL's) case. Just imagine suddenly waking up as a different person... more>> with different gender. He was shocked and he's married to his 'love rival' to boot.

I sincerely think that this story is good. I felt comfortable reading this. There might not be some 'face-slapping' moments but everything in this story is still interesting.

I would love to recommend this to everyone who likes GB stories and to those who have not yet tried to read one. <<less
