Everyone praised Yin Hui as a noble lady, and Yin Hui did indeed marry into Prince Yan’s mansion and became the Emperor’s granddaughter-in-law.

But her husband came out early and returned late, and seldom spoke to her.

Yin Hui tried her best to warm his heart, but he brought back a widowed cousin to take care of.

Yin Hui: No way!

Husband: Go to bed first, we will talk about it tomorrow morning.

The result was that on that very night, Yin Hui suddenly went ten years back in time.

Idk if it felt long because of how the chapters were spliced but this dragged after the first few chapters. I just took a look at the tags again and saw the 'slice of life' tag. It all makes sense now so it was an average read. I started this because I'm currently reading 'reborn after widowhood' and thought it would be similar but the stark contrast between the behavior of the MLs towards the FLs made it difficult for me to truly enjoy this. But that just might be... more>> my own personal bias projecting <<less

This a very heartwarming novel. I think what truly drew me to the story was how much it emphasized the importance of familial relationships. Typically in historical novels, most of the time in the royal family, everyone is scheming against each other but here it’s close to non-existent or it never reached a point wherein they wanted to kill each other for the throne.

The Emperor was by far the best father out there. He never favored anyone and more than anything he valued his family the most. Literally you rarely... more>> find a father emperor like him in historical novels. He loved all his sons, daughters, wife, concubines and grandchildren. He was also a good emperor.

Also I loved how the FL and ML gradually learned to communicate with each other that by the end of it FL no longer has any grievances but rather came to love the ML who also changed for the better.

A solid 4.3 stars <<less

One of the best novels I've read in a while. There's a wide cast of characters but you get to know just enough about some to care for them. Overall, other than a romance story, it's mostly about relationships: familial (majority), romantic, and friendships. It also takes place over the span of about 20 years (from beginning of her return to the last chapter). I love the interesting relationships between everyone, both big and small roles. For example, the 2nd SIL is haughty and looks down on our FL but... more>> she always comes over to talk whenever she's free or bored. I love their frenemies relationship. The cast of characters mainly revolves around Prince Yan (ML's father) and his family. He's definitely one of the better fathers (and later emperor) from these kinds of novels. He's objective but kind. He also loves his wives and children equally (for the most part). He actually makes time to spend with his children and takes an active role in educating them. He mostly focused on practical education while in house teachers were responsible for theoretical education. That being said, he wasn't a perfect father since ML does end up being kinda neglected by him. But compared to other examples we've seen in this genre, he's definitely one of the best fathers.

I loved seeing our main couple fall in love with each other. With her decade of experience behind her, she begins to notice the differences in him that she didn't before. And he begins to notice her true personality behind her facade as she breaks out of her self imposed chains. I especially love seeing our ML as a father. He looks stern but he's actually super patient with his kids. He always makes sure to play with his kids after work. Seeing him change through the story from a quiet and distant husband to a loving and affectionate one was so cute!

Definitely very slice of life so get comfy because it's a long ride.

side note: the 3.5 extras covers what happened in the original timeline, an alternate timeline where BOTH of them return (this time right before the marriage proposal), and a side couple with a Romeo-Juliet-esque love story. Plus a small epilogue at the end. <<less

A very interesting novel with a more realistic point of view of what marriage and concubines looked like, I really liked how the author differentiated one from the other concubines regarding social class. The same with the princes of the first wife and other wives.

Spoiler

. What I found a bit confusing was his "reincarnation" "return to the past" the reason is not explained, it is true that in many novels you do not explain them either but they give you clues as to where the origin can go, in this case the FL is not even She doubts if it was a dream, even ten years later the FL is sure that she lived that life, and if so, it makes me wonder what happened to her in the other life, will she have managed to prevent the ML from taking a concubine? Or that the ML be more sincere with the Fl? Why in the other life he proposed to take his cousin as a concubine while she refused, but of course since they didn't get along very well then surely the FL resented him and only cared about her son leaving ML aside, uqe like he wasn't very good at expressing his feelings he wouldn't have cared. Another point that left me baffled was how the FL used his memories to have some future events on his side, something very badly played, sometimes the author made FL see as a superheroine who was given the gift to change the things, and sometimes that clashed with the way of thinking of the Fl, according to her, the FL didn't care that the ML took a concubine, but when the arc arrived, it almost fell apart, trying to align the Ml, that she was more rebellious in his youth, but he never put a stop to Ji xianxia, who sometimes really deserved a stop. I also felt strange how no event in the future was affected, although you know what will happen but since you already know everything that will happen something should have changed, that is, since she woke up back to 10 years in the past some of future events without her intervention should have been omitted, due to the simple fact that she already changed her personality, everyone around her should also have done so for better or worse. Now I'll talk about the emperor, one of the reasons I read this novel was because I read that it had one of the best emperors, I'm not saying yes, I'm not saying no, Ml's father is contradictory, sometimes he loves his children sometimes he can't stand not even seeing them, the father of the ML knew that if the first son was a complete idiot, if it hadn't been for the mother of the first son, he wouldn't have let him be the crown prince, a terrible idea, why if he had been the emperor First son, he would have led the country to ruin, and alienated his brothers, he couldn't stand that they were better than him, the only one who could control him was his mother, if she died, then there would be no one to listen to and he would have made a disaster throughout the kingdom, the emperor did not deeply analyze his first son, he thought that with his mother being by his side everything would be fine, but the first thing happens, the mother dies and the first son is left with no one to advise him, causing his attitude is seen less and less virtuous and its deficiencies are seen something easy to notice, that is one of the reasons why I think the emperor was not so apt, another was that the emperor was very good at judging, he pointed out the deficiencies of each son, and each deficiency of each son came from the bad upbringing of the emperor, the ML is the son that the emperor loved the most, he really loved his father, he admired him, but if he wanted to be noticed he had to be the best, and so that? If it weren't for the Fl, his father would not have wanted him close to the hypocrite that in the end the emperor realizes that the ML was the son who loved him the most, the emperor, although he filled his mouth that he loved his children and grandchildren, he was also the first to drive them away, about his concubines, the emperor in the end who loved his first wife the most, it hurt me that he only realized it when she defended the castle alone, if it wasn't that sure it would be he was divorcing her, or as he spoke of my mother, when he only saw her for the first time he took her the next day to be his concubine and then he forgot about her only because her character was not very flirtatious and she did not have much knowledge, this leaves me wondering why the ML loved his father so much?

[collapse]

If you want something outside of a typical reincarnated FL I recommend this novel, sometimes it gets boring but other times you are excited to read what happens <<less

The title is generic and the cover is lacklustre, hiding this true gem. Seriously, such a brilliant novel deserves better. Reborn Lady is one of those rare stories that doesn't shout to be heard—it just quietly settles into your bones and stays there. It's not about grand vengeance or rewriting fate. Instead, it asks: what if you could go back, not to change everything, but to live a little better? To speak a little more honestly? To love with more clarity and less fear?

Yin Hui doesn't become a mastermind or... more>> a heroine out of time—she remains grounded, gracious, and quietly brilliant. She adjusts her steps, not the whole world, and somehow that restraint makes her journey all the more moving.

What surprised me most, though, was how much I loved characterization of the side characters, especially the imperial father-in-law—well balanced and unbiased. And the romance? Slow, subtle, real. Wei Luo's coldness isn't a wall—it's a language. Watching Yin Hui learn to read it, and watching him try, in his own careful way, to meet her halfway, was deeply satisfying.

There are no fireworks, just the warm light of understanding flickering into something lasting. If I had to give it stars, I'd run out. I wish more novels had such EQ. <<less

Too many characters, the pace crawls enough to keep you interested. There's barely any face slapping moment but the FL, Yin Hui makes up with her graceful demeanor and clever plots. The ML, Wei Luo is a stoic which ends up causing most of the Fl's issues. Regardless of the unnecessarily long spanned novel, it was a domestic soap opera I couldn't stop reading. I liked the FL's FIL, the Emperor. The huge cast was fun but after 450+ chapters anyone (especially ME) is bound to waver my gusto. One... more>> thing I liked about the FL is despite her rebirth, she didn't interfere in any of the major events and wasn't too OP. She was more of a calm prescient. Hence, why I liked this novel more than To Be a Virtuous Wife. <<less

Slow burn and reasonably realistic once you take out the regression element. There is conquest, no genocide. Read with awareness that Chinese beauty standards apply heavily in this story as it is written from the perapective of Chinese aristocracy, where external appearances are often used as a representation of inner quality. 5 stars.

It's been awhile since I read a good story that didn't make me feel like skipping chapters to get to the main point faster. Every chapter was interesting. Towards the end I even felt like they didn't expand on side stories of the other nephews and MC's children enough.

ML's father was by far my favourite character. He cares so much about family and familial relationships. He cared about and gave a chance to every son and grandson.
Spoiler

Though it wasn't really clear how the former crown prince Wei Yang actually disappointed him other than not having military strength. Plus I did feel like the author killed Father Emperor off too quickly! I teared when he died!

[collapse]
Characters that I thought would be unlikable ended up quite likable (2nd sis in law and Yin Rong). Everyone except probably Yin Wen and supposed white moonlight.

Maybe the author didn't want to prolong the story too much, but once the family moved to the capital, it felt like the pace became much faster with many time skips.

Overall though a very heartwarming story about family. Nothing too dramatic that makes you tear your hair out and beat your chest. The MC and ML's relationship progressed nicely and sweetly. I liked that the ML was given a chance to grow and change rather than just being abandoned. He didn't do anything very unforgivable either just misunderstood alot. MC also changed in a sense that she opened up more. Communicated more in the relationship with her husband.

One thing I love about this is how close the families are. Unlike most novels in this genre, the royal family do have great familial affection for each other despite not necessarily getting along. I especially admire King Yan and how he chose to raise his family despite his flaws.

If you like a slice of life novel with emphasis on family you will love to read this. The characters are all flawed but most of them are endearing even if they make many mistakes. This novel is very warm and... more>> I enjoyed reading about all of their interactions. <<less

Aaaaa I really love this kind of love story. Filling me with warmth and sweetness.

Spoiler

ML always liked FL since the beginning. He regarded her as his wife as early since the day of their marriage. He tried to be a good husband. But because of his circumstances when growing up, he's inherently cold, silent, & doesn't know how to show affection properly. Oftentimes, his expression of care are misunderstood by FL.

Problems that arises in a marriages are mostly the little things, for example:

    • FL likes to roll around the bed when sleeping, snatching the quilt with her. ML's afraid if they fight for one quilt, then they'll catch a cold. So in the 2nd day of marriage, he decisively got 2 separate quilts for both of them. And she misunderstood him not wanting to share a quilt means he disliked her.
    • In her early day of pregnancy, it's not recommended to do nighty activities. So, ML, scared that he would be tempted by her, just sleep in another courtyard. Though he ordered the servants to serve her with utmost care & asked a report for everything about her.
    • etc.

FL herself was scared of him & never voiced her grievances. Even when he asked her if there's anything wrong, she never speak up. And so he never realize his actions (or the lack of it) hurts her. In the end, both of them are at fault for this miscommunication.

[collapse]

This story is how they slowly fixing their relationship. It spands for 2 decades, with no big time skip. So you can feel their love gradually deepening bit by bit with each passing years. From when their 1st son was a baby, having 2nd, then 3rd child, their childhood antics, family outings, wars, separation, until all 3 children grows up finely.

Their 3 children have a wholesome relationship.

ML may be an awkward lover, but he is such a good father omg (one of the best father in c-novel). His own father was often away when he was a kid, while his mother was weak. He grows up without much parental care, so now he poured his youth's father-child expectations & love to their children.

FL is such a good mother too.

Even the Emperor (ML's father) is a good parent.

They don't play favorite with the children & neglect the less favorite (this trope always irked me in many c-novels).

Btw, about what happened in the synopsis about the widowed cousin:

Spoiler

Her life in her 1st husband family is simply so miserable. ML thought she was too traumatized to remarry.

He doesn't like her. But she's the only remaining relative from his mother's side, so he has a sense of responsibility.

When he talked about accepting her as concubine (by name only) to FL, she got angry for the 1st time in this life at him. He got flustered. As he's not someone who's good at arguing, so he opted to delay their talk for the next morning, while thinking of alternative solutions that night

I'm on chapter 57 and honestly, I find the story quite boring... Maybe to the fact that I'm more petty and can hold grudges for a very long time BUT if I decide not to expect anything from a person except for the benefits that my grandfather already "bought" for me with 2 million I'm not longer helping him or "serving" him anymore. I understand that FL doesn't want ML to get into trouble so that she and her son won't be affected, but I find pointless because, after all,... more>> in the first timeline she became a "princess" even with her husband's mistakes. A rating of 4.4⭐ is appropriate for this novel. When I first read the synopsis, it felt rather familiar, and I had indeed read it almost to the end last year. Today, I revisited the chapters to refresh my memory and read the extras. Despite the relatively mild misunderstandings between the MC and ML, the writing still managed to make me shed some tears (or perhaps I'm just a crybaby).

The storyline itself is quite engaging, and the characters are well-developed. I appreciate the author's attention to detail, which results in... more>> minimal plot holes that could disrupt the reading experience. I honestly loved this novel! It's not boring at all. No face slapping because the MC was simply living the life she wants to live with as much freedom as she gets. Before she knew the truth about the WRY concubine matter, she was in love with the ML but was in denial or maybe just putting aside her feelings so as to not get hurt when that point of time comes.

The characters aren't perfect, I got very annoyed at King Yan and the ML several times especially King Yan... more>> who was narrated as fair and open-minded. He tried to pick on a kid focusing on eating simply because he's annoyed! The plot flow was just right even with all the time skips. Though some parts were too simplified like the emperor's death... There's no power struggles amongst the siblings, the emperor was really a good person at certain parts and he's one of the few novel-emperors not paranoid with his sons trying to accumulate power. The ML was such a cold person but thankfully he was thawed enough after muchh chapters.

Overall I'll reread this again when I have the time. One of the best novel I've read so far for sure. <<less

I read this novel from start to finish so it was entertaining enough for that. However overall the feeling I got was that it's just... okay.

As others have said, the ML is not that appealing for almost half of the novel. He's not toxic or particularly objectionable... just very "blah". He's described as an emotionless ice block and it's not like there's deep emotions simmering underneath, he's literally just not feeling much. In a way, it's kind of realistic as he's a "man of his time", but then the author... more>> doesn't follow through with hitting full historical accuracy because she still wants to write a typical female-oriented rebirth novel where the ML is utterly devoted (only) to the MC and they reach the pinnacle of life etc etc. However she seems also constrained by her desire to achieve some kind of feeling of historical accuracy (even though it's fictional dynasty) as a result it's kind of a like a neither here nor there novel where it feels MC kind of rebirthed for nothing because her life does not really change all *that* much compared to her original, she still behaves normally as per her times, as does everyone else around her, so there is no real face slapping or whatever, she has no major play in the great "events" of the world and a lot of important scenes happen off screen because it's got nothing to do with her, she's just living her life per usual as the wife of royal and just keep to her role. Yes she does changea few things but it's mainly to people close to her, and the overall tone of the novel is very calm and slice-of-life.

For example she's actually even nicer to ML in her second life than her first one, the author's explanation appears to be she doesn't really care about him anymore hence she's okay to be playful and "pretend" to be affectionate to achieve her goals, however when he responds to her displays of affection by (very slowly...) by beginning to reciprocate and becoming more caring and demonstrative too, she basically falls in love with him again (even more) and just continues that way. I'm not saying that that's not realistic, that's probably really realistic and I do appreciate she's being sane and logical and not doing anything dramatic which would not fit in with the times, it doesn't make a very exciting emotional arc or really anything to root for.

I think that either the author should have gone: A) Full historical accuracy - forget the rebirth, just write a story where the MC is a smart and accomplished girl from the merchant class trapped in a marriage to an old-fashioned, traditional but deep down well-meaning member of royalty, and how she slowly (within the constraints of her time) break down the barriers between them and (very gently) achieves the approval and gets rid of the prejudice of the people around her (honestly their prejudice is not even that bad and nobody really does anything awful to her, it's more minor prejudices and gossiping etc which would fit the tone of this type of novel), and achieves true love with her husband. The novel is kind of half going down this route already because majority of it is just slice of life which MC making small pushes and adjustment and pretty much just going with the flow. But if she was going to go this way, then go complete. Let the ML have concubines, since that is indeed normal for the times (and in fact in this novel, he almost seems like a weirdo for not having it because the author has already established it is absolutely and completely normal for other characters), but slowly come to realise her value and worth above his other "wives" despite her low birth, and end up loving her genuinely and truly.

OR

B) Go the full modern sensibility route, like just forget about historical accuracy since it's a rebirth novel in a made-up fictional time, have some exciting emotional arcs between the ML and MC where she just full on rejects from the get go, and he has to chase her back (there's an extra that kind of deals with this but it's over too quickly and just sort of glosses over it, but it was still much more exciting than most of the novel to read!!). If you go this route, you can have the ML fully be obsessed with and devoted to MC. In this scenario you have to forget about them having any kids together already, because I don't think any loving mothers can wish their kids away. Have some more face slapping and exciting segments where MC deals with her annoying relatives and where the cousin character as well as the ML's childhood "sweetheart" character gets their comeuppance and actually make them cunning or evil enough to deserve it (I agree in the original novel they don't deserve it, since they don't really do all that much). The only face slapping that's exciting in the original novel is sort of with a side branch of the MC's family but it's just like over all too quickly and also MC doesn't really have much to do with it. I think she should be given more agency and more power in this route to actually make the change in her life, coz otherwise why rebirth??

Right now the novel is kind of like a hodgepodge of both routes and doesn't go the full way with either. I can see the potential but it doesn't achieve the full emotional or dramatic arcs of either. But it's also not totally boring and there is elements of both, so there's a few things that will keep you going and keep reading to find out what happens. But what happens is usually just... "oh that's it..? Well okay... I guess that's realistic". That's why my overall feeling is just that it's... okay. <<less

This was a very refreshing story to read. The conflict within the characters were not to intense, the harem was peaceful with no secret plotting or assassination. Even the side characters were very likable even if they were against our main couple. I like that the FL and ML were not perfect. This is my first review but this story deserves it. I also love the political side.

But I wonder why the author never mentioned the sons' and daughter marriage.

WOOOOOW!! Splendidly written novel that actually made me like every character for an ancient imperial family novel!! This novel is so good and brought me to tears a couple of times, but also relatively sweet and calm. I absolutely love BG ancient noble novels and this one is definitely in my list. Despite the lack of face-slapping, I did not find this boring at all. The relationship between the siblings, father and concubines, even sister-in-laws was written in a way that made you appreciate them. There are times of conflicts... more>> of course but since you’ll be with them from the start to the end of life made me more attached to them.

What I like about this more is the sensibility of the Emperor and the empress mother in law, theyre so good. The romance part is also sufficient, making me feel warm and fuzzy inside. ML is a cold but warm inside husband and father, undeniably good one X MC who is sensible, submissive turned fiery girl loving both husband and child her own way. The children are also so good! This is a family novel through and through !!! I definitely would reread this in the future.

Might I add that the extras are so good !!???? I definitely love and cried for the third princess and cui yu!!! <<less
