Freaking amazing. If anyone hasn't read this book DO SO RIGHT NOW!!! I was really hesitant about some of the lower ratings, but I still decided to give it a chance. Then while reading I was so confused because some of the things the lower ratings mention never happened. This was an absolutely beautiful love story. That twist at the end where we get a look at the ML's mind...... it broke my heart but I totally should have seen it coming lol That ML is twisted. I wasn't much... more>> of a fan of the side couple because I wanted to punch the side male in the face multiple MULTIPLE times! But our main couple is #relationshipgoals. <<less

This is one of the best novel I have read.

Their relationship is really satisfying. In the most novels where there is a dominant ML and kind or whatever fl, there relationship is unequal and dominant by one person. But In this novel I feel that their relationship is balanced nd really satisfying.

Whenever I see a dominant and cold blooded ml, I feel repulsive to it but in this novel even though the male lead was kind of dark, I never felt like that. In this novel the ML was strong... more>> and dominant so was the fl.

Male lead has very low self-esteem becuz of his identity as an eunuch. He was condemned, scolded, insulted by everyone so he felt that as an eunuch, he will never will be loved. So when the FL takes the lead to get close to him, he is suspicious of her motive. FL reborns after being in the ml's harem for three years. The ML notices her as soon as she enters his harem so it's not like he falls in love instantly with her after her rebirth.

ML has went through many things so it takes time for him to completely expose his dark self infront of the fl. In many novels where the ML has gone through many things, even though they depends on FL but they never exposed their vulnerable and dark side infront of fl. But in this novel the ML has taken a great courage to expose his body and dark side to fl. At one point he even wanted to ask her with grievance, why she didn't appear earlier in his life so that he won't have to go through this much alone. This is the first time I have seen in all the novels where the ML showed his vulnerability to fl. <<less

Story is amazingly well balanced. Both main characters are flawed but also excels in various areas and it breaks a little off from generic set ups like: City crushing beauty, submissive but fiery personality of female lead, or top 1 bachelor male lead that everybody admires with unlimited prowess, wisdom and influence. Same goes for the story plane, it's a balanced world, nobody is particularly favoured with the exception for that one time rebirth of MC, from there on out, all had to earn and fight for their own happiness... more>> by themselves. Thank Goodness for no mother authors that likes to ruin their own stories.

The FL is a very strong character, both physically and mentally. She's an aloof but devoted person, broad minded or easy going enough to not mind the small matters as long as nobody grinds her gears.

Her forward thinking personality and manners earnt her both male and female admirers alike, but keeps them all at an arms length through her cold and apathetic demeanour.

The ML is probably one of the most unique MLs I came across, being accustomed to those insane stallions that can last in bed for days and do rounds after rounds near breaking the FLs, this one, is actually middle aged (considered at that time period being mid 30ties and all), is an eunuch, already has a harem, the most hated person in the imperial court, but carries a lot of heavy mental scarring with him, though, isn't afraid to show this side of his true self to his lover (with some proper coaxing).

The whole dynamic of this couple breaks a lot of gender stereotypes even for this day and age. The MC is the one mostly engaging in intimacy and dominates in bed. So much so, that I hope all male leads would learn from her: her patience, consent, respect and all the love and care she can give. Scenes in bed isn't explicit but neither to short or shrouded.

Their relationship progresses at a realistic pace too, it's not one of those ridiculous -we confessed to each other now we can suddenly can telepathically understand each other with glances- ambiance, no. They get to know each other, have small couple fights, make up and let each other in bit by bit over time.

Note: Translation is excellent. Metaphors, period lingo have at least all been explained once, even clearing up the ambiguity in a conversation flow that might get lost in translation sometime.

If I've had to say something about what I didn't like, it would've been the supporting character, MC's handmaid. She's gone full Mary Sue and got her own weird side-kick plot armour over time in the most annoying manner.

She constantly chases after MC, causing trouble, going -I need to do this!- I need to do that!- without ever considering how others like her Miss would actually want from her. Ofc, MC does get mad and 'punishes' her but it's nothing more than a tap on the wrist.

Superfluous character, really. <<less
