Chen Yan travels between worlds, ending up becoming an honorable prince in a medieval fantasy world. Yet this world was not quite as simple as he thought. Witches with magical powers abound, and fearsome wars between churches and kingdoms rage throughout the land.

Roland, a prince regarded as hopeless by his own father and assigned to the worst fief, spends his time developing a poor and backward town into a strong and modern city, while fighting against his siblings for the throne and absolute control over the kingdom. Join Roland as he befriends and allies with witches and, through fighting and even farming, pushes back invaders coming from the realm of evil.

Personally it's my best novel, even though it's not finished yet (at the time of writing this), we can definitely expect a very good ending from this novel.

Let me tell the best points about this novel which are making it very much different from other novels.

  • Weak MC & his TRUE strength -->But only in terms of fighting &, that also because he is always guarded by his witches and his troops, hardly there's is a scene where he has to fight himself. Now don't get upset, because he doesn't fight that doesn't mean he is not COOL, he way too much cool. Because his true power are his witches. You will always get the feeling while reading this novel that every witches power are equal to Mc's strength.
  • Witches as supporting chars--> It's truly one of the novel where you get to read and feel the huge impact of supporting chars where they are equally as important as our MC.
  • Multiple POV-->The slight difference between this novel with other multiple pov novel is that every incident related to our MC, most of the time is written in the pov of both sides and this char's pov is not just one time pov, as our MC grows up in the novel, every once in a while (or after some time gap) their experience is also explained (related with our mc/plot) from their POV. So it's a fascinating feeling reading their POV (especially from our heroines =>witches).
  • Plot story -->Unique, I won't say but good enough to make you keep reading, your curiosity to know the story ahead will never go down. Till now how much I have read, the plot is still sensible, there's not much unreasonable explanation.
  • Romance & Harem -->First of all it's not harem in true sense but then again it's harem, you cannot deny that, But there's something for both harem lovers and harem haters, so you both must at least give it a try. As you read you will really love the development between our MC and his heroines, you will also cry and cheer for them, that's for sure. Apart from that
    Spoiler

even though all the witches are not his harem members (some are like his sisters, friends (doudt on this)

    [collapse]
I especially like their conversations between MC and witches, that's the best part for me in the novel.
  • Unique part -->In most of the novel, in this type of genre, we lose the curiosity or side chars lose their curiosity towards MC but don't worry even at current chaps you'll find surprising and overwhelming expression of side chars (including witches & even from the chars which are with him all the time) towards our MC and that's what truly make it different from others.

Thanks for reading this review, I hope you will give it a try, at least once.

I don’t normally write reviews and this being my first but I decided to since some people complain about the MC having too much knowledge of things unrelated to machines such as chemicals and electricity. As someone who was originally majoring in mechanical engineering and switched majors that amount of knowledge is fairly reasonable as in many engineering programs you need to take many unrelated courses in the name of “broadening your knowledge” as for the novel itself it has become my favorite CN I have read due to how... more>> it blends science and magic. Normally I would see magic being a replacement for technologies or for overbuilt tech ising magic with few in depth explanation in this case it uses magic as a means to spark an industrial revolution and develope the required machines to fuel it so that the basics can be produced without magic something I found rather refreshing and I also appreciated having a MC with a wealth of knowledge and a reasonable explanation for habing said knowledge. <<less

Quite a interesting novel, I feel that the novel is done extremely well on the building and the plot of the story. I would Ignore the summary because the summary drove me away from this novel but in the end I gave it a try.

As the 4 stars I feel that the novel progresses a bit too quickly as a example the MC introduces the gun extremely early, when this is a novel with the title "Release that Witch" and the fact that witched are being seen as evil creatures... more>> and the fact that the MC wants to create a safe place for him, the witches more used as handy tools to create guns or transport. I found it a bit disappointing as I wanted a a bit more action from the witches themselves as they fight armies (But they might later on, but 120 chapters tho and no super crazy fights from them). And secondly, the MC knows a bit TOO much, our MC in the previous world was a mechanical blueprinter (engineer?) and that explains how he knows these but at times he knows how to completely design a steam engine from scratch and build a boat out of concrete (Or something along the lines of that)

Other Slight Issue in this novel that didn't affect the rating

Translation: The translation is definitely good, but then there are confusions that happens where he writes the MC as a time- traveler when he's clearly not, mixes up qiang which means guns or spear and switches the words around a bit. The enemies he fights sometimes will say things they shouldn't know like 'gunfire'. It's pretty noticeable and annoying and I hope I don't see this ahead/ <<less

I love this series, in half and I must say that in truth that unique in style, very original in some aspects and the prota is well echo. Se focuses more on the study and logical thinking, than the same wanting to be a super MC as we all know, I recommend it for those two passionate readers who enjoy everything a little. I give a good vote and that I am eccentric hahah

An above average novel with most other character introduced as 2 dimensional characters. They may have their own issues, but they rarely break the mold and the author likes to play it safe most of the time.

Don't expect anything bad to happen on the MC's side like tragedy, this is not that type of novel.

The things I enjoy about this novel is the more human aspect of the MC where he has feelings like compassion and sympathy. Other characters have their own roles to play at varying degrees which helps... more>> adds an additional breadth of life into the novel. However, that is also somewhat restrained as too many characters also narrows the exploration of how each character changes and grows. It is usually given in a small paragraph or chapters that is very sparse.

If you enjoy kingdom building and watching a more advance army kick the butts of less advance armies and the slow transition of a more progressive society, there is some satisfaction for those scenes as you get emotional glimpses into the players that are involved in that struggle. Often times, you see side characters that change their world view as you can contrast both sides of that struggle through two different lenses of one person facing off against the other. It is fun reading the small part of how some joined the army for food but changes to one that serves for an ideal and meaning over time. Once the peasants are given more of an opportunity, you see them expand their scope of the world and its issues.

It is one of the rare novels I enjoy for those reasons. <<less

I honestly still fail to realize why people take these kind of books so seriously and expect so much. If you're gonna be like that and read this just to give it a bad score then just don't come to this website lol.

The novel is relaxing to read and pretty interesting.

Interesting but the main character is probably homosexual... He has all kinds of interesting women around him yet he focuses on the only witch who is rarely at his side and whose final we know little of its history. What a pity for the charming "Nightingale" who permanently protects him and is always at his side... He should be castrated to have such insensitivity!

2 stars because the author does not know how to correctly develop the relationships of the different characters (Just soulless puppets) and also for the predictability of... more>> the scenario and the great ease of the different situations in the story. <<less

So far instead of a story the author written an exposition to set up the story line. Author definitely hate any kind of religion and it's off putting, how prejudice he is while depicting religious people. Communist ideology is so strong that makes you feel like you're reading a Marxist or a Leninist depicting their utopia. Now the lighter stuff, the female lead "Anna" has no character development. She could be described as "helpful, useful and has an upgradeable talent" these things are not characteristics, they are how you describe... more>> an object. I could very well be talking about my computer and you guys will not know the difference. For the male lead, he is impossible, he doesn't have google but he knows everything. Which university did he go that thought him astrophysics, architecture, microbiology and even soap, perfume making.

To sum up, I also skipped a lot of political bla bla to read story development. <<less

Its REALLY good, one of the best "another world" novels out there.

Though it does bother me that the MC seems to know EVERYTHING right off the bat, earlier chapters are helped by the the author linking to articles probing the actual possibility of him knowing how to make things like cement, but like, I know he is a mechanical engineer, but mechanical engineers wouldnt usually be experts at complex chemistry, or economy, or education, or diplomacy, or politics, or urban planning, or history, like, I know engineers, their fields... more>> of knowledge are usually pin-point by necessity.

To be fair its not such a mayor issue as other reviews say it is, the developments are always exiting so you usually forgive them as the payoff is reading about how certain advancement changed the people's life for the better or how the (truly detestable but crucially, not annoying) antagonists are getting what was coming for them.

Overall despite that, I think the novel is REALLY good, one of the best around, Im lowering the score because the protagonist has just defeated his greatest enemies and hasnt really faced actual adversity throughout the series, and now (after 600 chapters go figure), its starting to feel stale with a subplot about "another world" within this "another world", this one revolving around cultivation being introduced.. and I just... ugh, I have 0 interest in this mayor subplot the author wrote himself into. <<less

For me it is the best kingdom building novel, why you can ask? Couse it rises with its Benevolent Dictator at its wheel. With time its gets harder and harder for author to describe life in Border Town or spoiler:Neverwineter. Did you play Neverwinter? Then you too will lough when this word will be introduced into the story. Plot wise it stands out from the rest. With time our MC changes into dictator but its not that bad. I mean, he does not kill indiscriminetly his subjects. Only real criminals... more>> or traitors. Which is new for me couse I have read tons of Wuxia and Xianxia, when there is mostly fighting like in Dragon Ball and nothing more. Good and evil with time stops to matter. Only the strongest have power. In this novel, the one with more powerful army dictates terms. With approaching threat of demons, our protogonist makes hasty decisions which sound similar to RTS games in which we use some resources to construct what we want to accomplish. To hasten the process we add useful witch and tada, project for years of labor was accomplished in weeks if not days. Chapters are too short for my taste, it does not cover even one conversation and nothing mayor changes in the story. So to enjoy this novel you need to wait for 10 chapters to pop up and then read. Otherwise it feels like waste of time.

If you have time on hand and just started this novel then like me most likely you will read it for few days until you hit the mark of covered translation. In that case search for other similar novels like me.

Somebody recommended Sevens as a series with deeper plot. It might be, but on the surface it is childish bsh*t with anime harem tune and characters. It has interesting point but it is so similar to harem anime that it makes me puke rainbows.

I will add other titles, which are more mature into this rating. <<less

This is a kingdom building isekai story.

The MC got transferred into a prince body, using his modern knowledge and acknowledging the witches, expand his small town into a kingdom, then attempt to unify the world to fight against the demons.

The story is too fast paced and slightly rush. Didnt like the fact that he raised his technology level so quickly and unrealistically. Probably because the author wants to start the storyline of war with demons quickly.

... more>> First month in his life: musket gun

1 year later: machine gun and ww1 rifles, with heater, electricity

Dont expect too in-depth politics and knowledge because the MC just steamroll everybody else with his artillery.

The author also likes to describe the various mechanical, chemical systems in detail, readers without any interest or knowledge about such things will probably find it boring too.

However its still an interesting story that will keeps you wondering what type of modern technology is the MC going to introduce next. <<less

MC is OPed in his own way, he knows to much and he is way too lucky, everything he does just works which feels too unrealistic, things are done to fast (what would take years in real life takes days there, and hardest parts like logistics, materials procuring are completly ommited, or just mentioned like "he bought")

But rest is very nice. Characters are likeable, stort flows well, writing is OK.

Not perfect, but definetly worth reading.

It's great. There's a semi-harem thats kind of annoying but I find I enjoy most of the characters and the story is entertaining. It makes me want to know more.

I'm annoyed that a civil engineer has knowledge of napoleonic era military technology but I'm willing to let it slide. There's some extremely cheesy lines, like the overwatch reference with the 6shooters, but in general a very enjoyable novel.

I like how the witches increase their power with the understanding of the science behind them, very cool. I would recommend this to... more>> anyone looking for a flintlock fantasy or good isekai read. <<less

My only problem is the MC is unbelievably intelligent on so many things and the people in their world can understand the topics that I've been trying to learn since kindergarten for only half a month.

But since the plot is good then 4/5

You would maybe like it more if you are a reader pursuing Engineering (like me) but that is definitely not a requirement since the topics are oversimplified.

Among many Chinese WN I've read so far, this one is just different. MC just has knowledge as weapon. Although his helpers are just OP to be honest. I hope the author ends the novel without doing the typical universe travel/ascension and stuffs like that. Also, it doesn't have the usual monotone Chinese WN story telling as there are side character's POV in between tens of chapters.

If you have engineering background, some of his action might annoy you. You'll go "Why didn't you develop this/her first/more?". It's fun in its... more>> own way. Also, sometimes reason of the governing policies are too dark. It is referenced from real world situation which makes you think what's wrong with this world. <<less

Mostly Chinese novel MC are op handsome and arrogant. They ruthlessly slaughtered everyone without mercy and get a harem. 'Cuz of this I've been disappointed on many Chinese novel. It's very annoying but This novel is not the same as those Chinese novel that u read so far. MC is not strong but smart he handled everything using his brain. I've actually read further than the translation via machine translations and I was completely gaga over it for the most part. The characters are nice and the story is fine for the most part (though I personally wish there was more focus on the romance aspect. Sadly I did drop it after chapter 500 or so, not because the writing got bad or a favorite character died or something I just got bored with it, which is my only criticism of this novel. It's far to drawn out. I'll probably... more>> read it again though because it is a great read. <<less

This is by far one of the best novels I have had the pleasure of reading, and trust me, I've been through almost all the top 50 novels listed on this website.

The premise of the story is a refreshing break from the other "cultivation focused" novels, and both the character and plot development are exemplary. It is far from the typical MC vs ridiculously arrogant enemies who get their comeuppance a few chapters down the road. In fact, it contains many deeper messages that I did not expect from this... more>> genre of fiction. <<less

This novel is aimed towards a target audience of a more intelligent age group but that's what makes it great. It is willing to take on controversial subjects like religion, philosophy, and uses physics to a certain extent, but still allows for a good degree of artistic freedom, which shows how intelligent the MC actually is and not some fake intelligence that has flaws because of logic.
