Jiang Miaomiao transmigrated into an apocalyptic book and became an insignificant cannon fodder. Considering all the brutal encounters behind, she decided to lie down and peacefully wait for death. She stayed at home and lived as long as she could.

In order to eat and drink well before she dies, she stored a lot of supplies.

Unexpectedly, one day a man broke into her house and was even more salty than her. He stayed and refused to leave. Her three boxes of potato chips were eaten up by that man. Her six boxes of river snail rice noodles were eaten up by that man. Her ten boxes of walnuts were also gnawed by that man!

Jiang Miaomiao was furious and decided to drive him out. So she secretly followed him in the middle of the night and saw him walk into a horde of zombies with a knife on his hands. He looked handsome as he easily killed those zombies.

The man came back and washed the blood stains. She was pushed to wake up while she was pretending to be asleep, “Give me a spicy duck neck.”

Jiang Miaomiao gave it to him decisively with both hands, “Eat, it’s all yours!”

A magical thing happened since then, her supplies… Why is it continuously increasing?

Awww I love their dynamic. MC is a takes things seriously sort of person who gets frazzled easily and can be very HMMPPHH at you but also afraid of pain and such. ML is a reliable person who jokes in serious situation and teases a lot. I love when they bicker, they're very cute for each other

Unique take on apocalypse novel, the vast majority of the novel only has MC and ML trying to survive the apocalypse together in their makeshift house.

I personally found their interactions very entertaining. ML was the highlight of the novel for me, skilled and doting to the supreme. MC lives up to the novel's title, a salted fish through and through. But paired with ML she has no choice but to work a little harder :)

Now the bad- novel has some pretty big plotholes and logical leaps. As I said... more>> the majority of the novel is just MC and ML... Where is everyone else? You're telling me in the whole city no one else survived? You can make up a few explanations but I still feel it's a bit of a stretch. And ML's background... What the heck lmao

Still enjoyed a lot, recommend if you're looking for a more cute and funny romance apocalypse novel. 4/5 <<less

I don't normally enjoy reading zombie related novels but this one easily goes to my top slice of life, romance comedy list! MiaoMiao and Qiming's relationship development wasn't rushed nor was it slowburn; it was perfect for my taste. I just love their partnership so much! I'm definitely gonna miss them 😭

I could seriously read 50 more chapters of their daily farm life with their son, dogs and of course, MiaoMiao's "dad" Gu Changzhou kekeke

What a lovely story massive character development for miao miao fav ending couldn't be better it's been so long since I've been satisfied with webnovel endings I love it highly recommend everybody read it

everything was natural nothing OP just a normal girl in an abnormal world the author was very subtle when showing her development from a cowardly lazy person to sometimes dependable sometimes brave sometimes calling the shot in critical moment's I know it's hard to believe but she really did change

Spoiler

she who knew only to be bait in the beginning became someone who could maul a zombie with a chainsaw and put a bullet in it's chest even bashing ones face with a tr*sh bucket off the 20th floor 😅 she wasn't OP that's y most readers would chalk her UpTo be dead weight but to me it looked like a weak person becoming strong in dire circumstances n be willing to do anything for her dearest ones dog or man

ik a lot of readers didn't like her in the comments me too I was one of em but I love her now she had such a big character development from a lazy smartass to the woman she later becomes all those raw emotions were felt by me the reader too the anxiety loneliness uncertainty of separation the way they came to care for each other their mutual fierceness trust n protectiveness for one another was very endearing to read sorry ik it's not much of a spoiler

10/10 100% would recommend

The story is short but concise. The love story doesn't feel rushed, forced or fake. You can see and feel very clearly the moment the characters start to fall in love with each other, all the growth they go through. Discovering their wounds, sharing their excitement, crying in their worst moments with and for them, laughing at their antics, it was so well written that even if it's a short story I will never forget Qiming and Miao Miao.

I think this novel was a bit overrated? It's not that the story was bad but it was full of plot holes and inconsistencies throughout the story. Also, the arc where MC and ML tried to survive together in the city got a bit boring over times because the pace was so slow. But then, the pace suddenly got faster when they were brought to the base and in the end, suddenly years already past just like that.

I also didn't like the ending much. Not because MC and ML didn't... more>> choose to live in glory but because how the government treated ML after making him guinea pig for 3 years.

Spoiler

He should be hailed as a hero without any condition but the government told him that they could only give him glory after he joined an endless rescue mission around the world. Really? After what he had been through?

Considering I read more than halfway and lost interest every new chapter, I didn't want to waste more time forcing myself to finish this one.

The beginning of this Cnovel started out hilarious and cute, setting the stage for a slice-of-life apocalypse story that's wholly focused on the main couple. But it became a huge slice of SOL and I couldn't stay focused on the characters' antics after the halfway point.

... more>> TRANSLATION

Starts off spectacular with the Wattpad translator, decent with the edited MTL from Mia's MTL, and finished on another edited MTL site. The second site starts off really rough. Definitely could have had a second pass or even an editor to fix sentence flow because things just made no sense. The website is finnicky too, since it doesn't have clear links for the next chapter and, like another reviewer said, tons of ads (I get having ads to support the site, but pop-ups are a bit Too Much). It gets better as you read and the sentences become more legible. Definitely readable from beginning to end, just expect the quality to decrease a bit.

THE BEGINNING

Story starts off with the FL Miaomiao transmigrating into the book she read and prepping for the apocalypse, estimating that she'll just be a salted fish for three months and die by su*cide once the zombies get to her. At first her perspective is endearing and understandable. Fate has other plans in store, as the ML pops into her villa more than a month in and helps her survive against the zombies. Here's where her perspective gets a little annoying... Miaomiao is very hot-and-cold with the ML and I don't have a lot of patience for tsundere characters. She continues her salted fish (basically mooch) mentality for more than half of the book and it wasn't until I stopped reading (around chapter 30-ish) where she changed her perspective and started to want to live and fight against the zombies. Inspired by the ML, of course. And sweet moments start happening as well. But again, all this happens around the chapter 30-ish mark.

THE DOWNFALL

Other readers who are more knowledgeable have better-worded complaints on the world-building and character logic for apocalypse survival. It doesn't seem like the author put a lot of research into a zombie apocalypse scenario, which is honestly fine. I read Cnovels as a way to shut off my brain so this doesn't bother me too much. But if you're not going to focus on creating a logical setting, then you could at least focus more on the plot/characters. The downfall came due to the lack of anything substantial happening in the middle of the story. Again, huge emphasis on slice of life. I'm tired of hearing the FL complain about how scary the zombies are and see her struggle with the chainsaw the ML got for her due to her weak, skinny and pale arms. Tired of seeing the ML plan their survival and save her from the zombies. Tired of even hearing about him being a good cook. Quite frankly, the FL is giving cannon fodder. I was so tired of waiting for her character development I had to drop the story.

If you're looking for a strong heroine type of novel, you won't get it here. The FL isn't physically strong by any means, and has to rely on the ML to have mental strength to survive in the apocalypse.

The ML is fine but basic. Good at everything, saves the day, 8 pack abs, pretty stoic but treats the FL sweetly, blah blah blah. MLs like him are a dime in a dozen.

TL;DR: Got tired of waiting for the FL to step up. Too slice of life-y for a zombie apocalypse book and I got tired of reading about the CP's life. <<less

when you're reading this, just like someone else said, don't go to the site that's linked after ch19. it's riddled with ads and viruses and is just poorly edited MTL. there's basically no difference if you just read off mtlnovel. com

at the beginning there was a lot of convenient things happening, like the ML somehow magicking menstrual pads and other objects out of thin air. there's convenient supermarkets conveniently stocked with exactly what they need, and there's even moments at the start where the ML literally gets mobbed by zombies... more>> but comes out unscathed, somehow not being bitten and when he's bitten again and nothing happens to him. obviously, I thought there was something more to him since he's a walking deus ex machina.

this really disappointed me because it ended up that yeah, it was all for plot convenience. I expected something more interesting and it made the male lead more interesting to me when I thought he was some enigma : (the novel had a lot of potential and things that could've been interesting but the author went with a boring path. super sad. dropped it at ch52 bc it got boring <<less

4.6? Rated up for characterization.

I really liked the MC and ML's interactions. The ML is (typically) rather OP, but not the cold, silent Mr Perfect type at all. He's also a salted fish sometimes, they bicker over chores. He discovers video games and spends all night playing MOBAs and Civ5/6. She doesn't accept all of the decisions he makes and they disagree. It's not smooth and perfect and instant-love even though he's a bit of an OP everyman, so their interactions feel more natural.

This novel is really refreshing and cute,... more>> despite the whole zombie apocalypse. As a fluffy romcom, it's very nice.

As other reviewers have noted, there are quite a few plotholes. Despite that, this is still a fun romcom and is mostly character-focused, so I'm not rating it down because it accomplishes the apocalypse romcom slice-of-life thing pretty well. They're logical gaps that exist but they don't ruin the novel's enjoyableness, imo.

I'm still going to note a bunch of them, though.

Spoiler

There's a scene where they're in a basement and burying nightsoil in the corner because they have to survive a zombie wave and can't get out. But at that point, the zombies are still mainly detecting humans based on scent, which they're aware of and have already made use of. So:

A: is there really no way they wouldn't have saved/tried to get any zombie blood to splash on the outside of the tub against the door to disguise their scent? B: why excrete in a corner when you know detection is scent-based, and not against the doorway? Yes, the air might be more foul if that's the only inlet, but living is rather a bigger issue, and besides, I doubt a basement with 0 other vents would be aerated enough for decent survival if they're down there for over a week.

At some point, we discover that these zombies aren't picky (they've eaten insects and animals at the market) and therefore aren't exclusively cannibals; they basically just scent for "living creature". We don't see them digging through sewage for "human waste remains". So C: no matter whether they're excreting in a corner or not, it has to be pretty foul after over a week. How are that many zombies unable to detect them past the scent of zombie blood, but able to detect them in the basement even though it probably smells foul enough to cover up?

The water in another villa is supplied via artificial lake. They bury a kid zombie near the lake at some point, which later gets dug up by other zombies, so it's not sectioned off. They boil the water but don't filter it in any other way, iirc. Like, even if zombies don't go into water voluntarily, none of the hordes/victims have gotten shoved in? Yeah right. That lake is full of dead body virus water, bro.

Speaking of potable water, why would you order purified water, buckets for tap water, and then fail to buy/pick up water purification tablets? Or barring that, chlorine bleach for water disinfection? Bleach is pretty common in most households, and potable water is one of the top survival needs. If the MC can download shitty Easy Recipe books, she can download a wilderness/general survival guide.

They run into a well-maintained high-end indoor pool at a later point; if the water's still clear months into the apocalypse, pool chlorine should be readily available somewhere near. But the MCs never bother with water purification/disinfection despite the zombie virus outbreak.

A 5-day-long megarain isn't going to flood a modern city to the 15th floor of a skyscraper, even if it's situated in a basin. The fact that zombies were able to perceive the MCs on the 15th-17th floors of the building is also really unbelievable.

Yes, the zombies gradually upgrade and are able to sense light/sound and not just "fresh food smell", but they're over 150 feet above ground, give or take. The abandoned villas and buildings they loot are abandoned and mostly zombie-free, so most zombies seem to just go wherever they think food is. There's no reason for them to randomly clamber up 17 floors of a fire escape for the MCs.

Later on, they briefly live on a nice island and are pretty self-sufficient re:food. But if seafood is so abundant and zombies can't traverse the oceans, there's no way the military wouldn't have taken note of that and set up camp on an island base instead. Sure, the MCs don't have the resources to carpet bomb the zombies there at the start, but the army obviously does, and if they have enough fuel to fly survivors out to bumf*ck nowhere in the Tibetan mountains, they can operate boats to get them to a island, especially one with a climate decent enough to grow things on. If you can operate a base on geothermal energy, why can't you use hydropower? Since the base in the mountains is the sixth base, then it's also not a matter of that specific base having super-powerful-secret-immovable-research tech or something.

Regarding the virus itself... why are there no zombie animals? If the killer pre-zombie virus can mutate enough to backfire on the World Domination Group trying to forcibly depopulate and cause a global zombie apocalypse, surely it can mutate enough to transmit from humans to other creatures.

[collapse]

^putting all of that like that makes it sound really bad, but it's a fun and charming novel despite that lol.

I think some people are too hard on the FL's initial "welp guess I'll die" attitude. She reads a book where basically everyone except the ML and FL die or go through loads of struggling, and even military-type people on rescue teams almost get totally wiped out. She knows she's a very average middle class girl without any skills really suited to apocalypse survival (later, we find out she studied design). Sure, she has 3 days to prep, but the body she transmigrates into isn't rich or outstanding in any way; she could've prepared somewhat better resources, maybe, but that's about it. The book doesn't feature any superpower awakenings, and does feature a lot of cities getting wiped out by zombies, and it takes 10 years of hard struggle in the original to restore civilisation. Knowing all of this... would you really have that much hope for survival? <<less

The novel is slice of life in the apocalypse world. Our MC is s*upid and really annoying in the beginning. But I would just say she’s just a normal girl who is so ready to die, and doesn’t want to do anything to survive. Her lack of motivation is probably a turn off to many people, but it’s understandable on her part. She does have great character development at the end.

our ML is old in age (48), but he lost 20 year of his life because he got locked in... more>> a lab as a mouse lab. He doesn’t age after he got caught to do that zombie virus test. Our ML is not that OP but he’s strong, he’s almost die many time.

There’s almost no other side characters appear till the very end. Basically, just the two of them and a dog living together.

their romance is a slow burn one and ML is quite insecure about his past that he cannot accept that MC actually want to be with him in the beginning. They both caught feeling at about the same time but MC is more straightforward while ML is still insecure. <<less

Jiang Miaomiao is very s*upid and has been set up to fail in a possible apocalypse.

Spoiler

I feel like the author tried to create a dumb but funny girl persona to give the story a comedic feel. (Tried and failed).

Everything the protagonist does seems very s*upid, bordering on the irrational.

She transmigrated into the body of a poor college girl three days before the [No System] apocalypse and just assumed it wasn't worth the effort to survive.

So for that reason, she decided to spend all her savings on a place to stay and on groceries (in addition, in those 3 days she opened a Live account to show how to survive the apocalypse, going viral on the app, which for me was pure s*upidity.)

Remember that she is poor, but she spent 10, 000 to rent a villa and the rest of the money was used to buy groceries that would hypothetically last 3 months, a few hundred buckets of purified water and a generator.

The MC transmigrates into a an apocalyptic novel, a zombie outbreak is imminent but since she knows about it, she prepares a lot to survive for a while. She is not interested in escaping and fighting for her life, she simply wants to eat and drink comfortably and plans to die a comfortable death (su*cide) if her supplies run out or if she encounters zombies. I found her relatively realistic, I could relate to her mindset a bit. She's not especially outstanding and there were some things I disagreed with... more>> but all in all I didn't have a problem with her, since her actions/feelings/mindset were not unjustified (e.g. Due to her past). She undergoes a lot of change (mindset, physical capabilities etc.) throughout the novel, mostly due to the ML. It's practically them two against the world which, of course, creates a really special bond between them.

It's not the standard action oriented apocalyptic novel; of course there are action elements, but it's not the focal point and there are no OP characters, although the ML is really strong and resourceful. It's primarily a slice of life with many seemingly mundane moments, but that made it somewhat realistic. There are a lot of ups and downs, it made me laugh, cry and honestly made me think about a lot. The ML is the MVP of the story and has, let's just say, an unusual past and special circumstances. So for a long time we are left wondering what that is all about which adds another factor that keeps the interest. The romance takes some time to develop and does so realistically, so I won't complain.

It has less than 60 chapters but they aren't short, it took longer than expected to finish. I read the rest of the novel through mtl and didn't have a lot of difficulty understanding it. Some parts may seem a little boring but that's just the slice of life aspect of it, it was enjoyable and unique

the origin of the "zombie outbreak" surprised me as well as the fact that there even was a realistic origin

Idk why people are so pleased with this novel. I'm super annoyed. Look at how dumb the MC is.

Minor spoilers:

She bought a small generator and some barrels of oil to power it, but ultimately couldn't use it because it was too noisy and attracted the zombies.

... more>> She didn't prepare any non electricity powered extracurricular activities except some paint. I don't think she even prepared any offline activities she could enjoy even if she was able to use her generator, or maybe the author will magically include that later.

And this part is the absolute worst.

She actually thought that she wouldn't get her period and didn't buy anything for that, no pads no tampons no cups. And when her aunt finally came, she could only use tissue and a plastic bag. She never even thought of using a piece of cloth.

Idk if this novel gets better later but for now I can no longer enjoy it because I am so angry about how s*upid this MC is. I know this is supposed to be a comedy novel but the level of s*upidity is just too much. <<less

I read the translator's chapters then MTL'd to the end. MC transmigrates into a zombie apocalypse novel and decides to live well before she dies, but the ML crashes at her place and upsets all her plans.

Together, the MC and ML try to live their slice of life story while fighting against an ever-evolving zombie horde, and survive in severe isolation with higher and higher stakes.
Spoiler

I found this a more realistic/scary setting than the fluff I usually read. There's no functioning society, electricity, running water, internet or media for most of the story, and it's just the two of them scrambling to find food, water, and prevent stronger and stronger zombies from tearing into their home.

The story and the MC's character development progressed well, but later in the novel, time passes too quickly and the plot becomes vague and only broadly outlined as the MC and ML reach their happy ending.

This is such a realistic apocalyptic novel. As a fellow salted fish, I definitely see myself thinking and doing the same things as FL.

As much as possible, avoid danger, enjoy life leisurely, and rather die quickly than being bitten by a zombie. FL (Miaomiao) is like that. She wanted to live longer in comfort so she stockpiled her inventory and barricaded herself in her house. She decided to honestly wait for death once she consumes all her supplies until a wild ML appeared. ML (Qiming) is strong, smart, and handsome... more>> but his personality is a bit roguish and annoying. He has a sharp tongue and he often bickers with FL throughout the novel. They didn't fall in love at first sight or in a fast pace since they both really had different personalities. Turns out ML is also a salted fish in the making so both of them still got along and was able to survive together. Initially, it was just ML running out to bait the zombies to protect FL but later on, FL learns to protect herself after being taught by ML. Step-by-step, they go from being strangers to forced housemates to roommates to life-and-death partners to lovers to family. I actually really like how smooth their relationship development went like it just sort of happened in the end. ML is a really good lover to FL and FL learns to not give up on her life to be with ML.

There were not many characters in the novel as most of the novel centered on the daily lives of ML and FL, and later on with their dog. The OGleads of the novel were not portrayed as jealous white lotus b*tches and bastards and were actually true to their OGnovel personalities. OGFL even ended up becoming friends and even comrades with FL for a short time. I also really liked the possible dad of FL's body lol. It would definitely be funny if his daughter who he treasured so much really did end up marrying and giving birth to the children of the comrade that he betrayed 20 years ago lol.
Spoiler

Yes, ML's actual age is 48 years old as his body age stayed at the age of 26 for over 20 years. ML was experimented on that's why he could initially resist becoming a zombie after being bitten. Because of this, he became the source of the vaccine research at the end of the novel. Thankfully, he wasn't experimented too cruelly.

[collapse]

All-in-all, the novel is a truly slice-of-life apocalyptic novel which, I think, is such a rare gem. It's extremely short, too and it didn't have too many ups-and-downs in the plot. There's no antagonists in it aside from the zombies (I'd like to think that the little boy zombie that they used and then buried in the beginning reincarnated to be their son but ofc that's probs not the case). I definitely recommend reading this for all those salted fish out there like me~ <<less

The novel is good and it is realistically portrayed. But the author made the MC really stup*d. She said that her age is 27 yet she didn't even have common sense nor basic knowledge (the person she was transmigrated into is 21). A grade schooler is even better than her. 😅 She's also insensitive and a little selfish (realistic since no one is obliged to help someone but her being more stup*d than a school grader is really unrealistic) Below are the list of her s*upidity ... more>>

I enjoyed reading it. At the beginning, the story seems kind of boring especially because the MC is so lazy and a scaredy cat who always want to give up and die. But she become stronger and her character development is very good and enjoyable to read.

The zombie apocalypse in this story is very realistic and very scary for me. Especially because there is no power, zombie nucleus etc in this story. This makes it more realistic and add tension to the story. But bear in mind this zombie apocalypse... more>> story is more slice of life + romance rather than adventure + thriller kind of story

The romance between the MC and ML is so cute and I really like reading about them. In the beginning (like the in the first few chapter) ML seems kind of boring and annoying but he gets better when we gets to know him and he is really sweet and dependable.

Overall, a nice and short story story to read. <<less

It has a good plot for a zombie apocalypse theme. Other stories like this are so idiotic. I like that the characters learned and developed. You may find the MC annoying but I think some people would have that kind of thought if you are in zombie apocalypse too.

This story worth MTLing. Its very easy to read.
