Jiang Miaomiao transmigrated into an apocalyptic book and became an insignificant cannon fodder. Considering all the brutal encounters behind, she decided to lie down and peacefully wait for death. She stayed at home and lived as long as she could.

In order to eat and drink well before she dies, she stored a lot of supplies.

Unexpectedly, one day a man broke into her house and was even more salty than her. He stayed and refused to leave. Her three boxes of potato chips were eaten up by that man. Her six boxes of river snail rice noodles were eaten up by that man. Her ten boxes of walnuts were also gnawed by that man!

Jiang Miaomiao was furious and decided to drive him out. So she secretly followed him in the middle of the night and saw him walk into a horde of zombies with a knife on his hands. He looked handsome as he easily killed those zombies.

The man came back and washed the blood stains. She was pushed to wake up while she was pretending to be asleep, “Give me a spicy duck neck.”

Jiang Miaomiao gave it to him decisively with both hands, “Eat, it’s all yours!”

A magical thing happened since then, her supplies… Why is it continuously increasing?

The start of the novel was exciting as you felt immersed the same way as a hoarder in a RPG/life sim game. It was exciting to imagine and read the MC survive as a hoarder in an apocalyptic world with zombies. The start to middle of the novel was interesting and exciting, but once you get to the middle until the end... It started getting boring really quick. But overall, it was a decent read.

Oh my gosh! I absolutely enjoyed and loved this novel. I was somehow sad since I just finished this today although I should have finished it at least two years ago since I started reading this book when it was first translated (I planned on reading the raws in advance since I got caught up in the translations) but because I got busy, and before you know it time flew so fast that it was only now that I remembered I was supposed to finish this book and it was... more>> satisfying.

Since my long review got lost after accidentally exiting the tab, I would just drop some spoilers and short review with a little bit of my thoughts here since some of the other reviews have said what I am supposed to say.

I enjoyed the story as their relationship and their survival progress in a natural and not forced way. That is why it is not super weird considering they have a huge age gap. I also cannot stop grinning from ear to ear by how sweet their dog food is 🥹, their lovely family and story is so enjoyable to read and sometimes the story is sad and angsty. This story really focused on survival and how to live during the apocalypse and basically staying away from danger so there's not much of an action where they fight with zombies and also might not be everyone's cup of tea but this is just to my liking. I liked that it focused on their everyday lives during the apocalypse.

For those who aren't fan of angst, for your peace of mind

Spoiler

It will only take them 3 years after getting separated but basically they can still talk to each other through visits and communicator although it is limited. It is like they are in a long distance relationship but in here there is kind of no guarantee if Miao Miao's husband Lu Qiming can still take it. After all, it left him trauma from becoming a lab rat and this is what I find quite pitiful in his character that he had to relive his experience again.

Also, initially in the story the ML is 48 years old (he was 27 years old when he was held hostage and became a lab rat 20 years ago) while the FL is 22 years old (21 but turned 22 during the apocalypse). Pardon me in this part since the narrative of the timeline is sometimes changing, they just got separated for 3 years (although in the earlier times it was mentioned they got separated for 3-4 years) so considering their one year together in the start of the apocalypse, another year in the lab and Miaomiao joining the rescue team, plus the 2-3 years rehabilitation of the city. I guess the apocalypse lasted for 4-5 years.

This novel made me laugh and cry at the same time! This story is unlike any other apocalypse novels I've read before, there were no superpowers, nor betrayals or face-slapping, it was quite refreshing.

From the start, the interactions between MC & ML made me laugh and it was a quite realistic potrayal because their relationship was more on the slowburn side and started from strangers to friends and then lovers. It wasn't a bam-hit in your face- love at first sight. And this is my cup of tea. I loved... more>> their relationship progression and the way they mitigate around the disaster.

If you'd like something different from the other apocalypse novels out there, give this one a read, you may come to like it as much as I did. <<less

I really enjoyed this laid back story for a post-apocalyptic novel. Since from the title it says "Salted fish", I'm not expecting for a focus fighting zombies. This story is centered around the day to day activities of the MCs as it was tagged "Slice of Life". If you know what you're getting at this was a fun read. There were just some inconsistencies on the plot that its hard to take it seriously.

The charm of this novel are the FL and ML. If you've been at the rock bottom... more>> of life and had given up, you'll understand the FL, why fight for if you're just going to end up dead. Why not die in a peaceful way. That was when the ML changed that and had given FL the purpose to look forward to life. Since the FL is "salted fish" don't expect an OP FL, its was already been stated in the title and overview. That's were the beauty of character development comes in for the FL, having purpose she strived for to achive that.

For the ML he's not invincible, he suffered a lot. His drive to survive was because of the life that was taken away from him. I liked of both them not falling in love at first sight, but gradually forming that bond. Seeing them both struggled and faced life and death situations, relying and trusting each other, bantering left and right was much more believable romance. Add more to that we have a couple that doesn't shy away from being intimate and acknowleding their feelings.

At the latter part of the novel, the author caught the "salted fish" disease and became lazy to wrap up the story. It was too easy for an end but oh well still a happy ending. <<less

Ok I’ve seen many comments hating on it but I quite like it.

it’s one of the most realistic apocalyptic stories

Spoiler

The MC is an average lazy college student who transmigrated into a novel 3 days before the apocalypse began she’s obviously weak she hasn’t learned any martial arts isn’t given a magic system abilities or space basically normal and no way to defend herself. She decides to stock food with whatever money she has and die once the food is over cuz she doesn’t wanna struggle or turn into a zombie which I felt was very relatable.

then one day the ML suddenly shows up and he’s strong basically does all the protecting n uses his brain now I understand why many found MC annoying and useless and sometimes ungrateful but I personally loved her character I would have that kind of mindset if I was in her situation like no way in a week I can suddenly learn to use a knife or fight and I’d obviously think zombies are ugly and scary cant suddenly adapt and be a female god very realistic so overall a good story

Not my cup of tea.

Spoiler

The MC was so dimwitted and everytime she needs help from others, she can only keep on promising that she will do everything for them. As to what that everything is beats me because she does not have any skills nor ability at all aside from depending on the people around her and demanding their help. Her only purpose was being someone the ML sleeps with and nothing else. Even her ability to analyze problem and resolve them was subpar. She will ALWAYS need the help of the people around her. She won't even be able to get out of her house without someones help. That's how useless she was.

As for the ML, he did deserved the useless MC. He was betrayed by his so called friend because he was unable to detect that he was just pulling his leg (he gets emotionally invested real quick. You don't have to do anything significant, just tell him your sob story and he'll be willing to sacrifice himself for you and your family). He was experimented on for 20 freaking years because of how gullible he was and when it was time for pay back, the only thing he did was tie the other person up and left him inside the house without doing anything else!!! Maybe he should have been subjected to those experinments for a couple of years more so he can grow some brains!!!

Utter waste of time. What a tr*shy novel.

it's very nice and approach the more slice-of-life being in the middle of the apocalypse not everyday is killing zombies and fighting for their lives. Sometimes is about rationalizing food and water, look for energy, miss vegetables and meat, raise a dog and fall in love with middle-aged man who broke our in your little home and went out to look for pads in the middle of the zombie apocalypse

good read, the couple growth was on point - though there's little moments where MiaoMiao's tsundere-eske personality made me very mad.... more>> But certainly a enjoyable experience <<less

I thought this would be a quick funny romance. It is really a gripping dystopian novel with a slow burn romance on the side. For a novel that is only 58 chapters it did not feel short at all and actually took a few days to read. It also wraps up really well and it didn’t feel like it left a bunch of things unexplained. For a novel originally based on the story of the main male and female lead it sure didn’t involve much of them in the storyline... more>> though. <<less

4.3 ⭐

How should I explain this... It's truly a slice of life during an apocalypse.

For the past 5 years I really can't watch/read any zombies stories because it scares me more than any horror ghosts story but decided to give this novel a chance. I almost dropped it in the middle because I'm too scared!! But fortunately I didn't give up, because, again, it's a slice of life with ROMANCE!

As the others have said, you may hate our FMC's personality in the beginning of the novel but as for me,... more>> she just reminds me of myself because I would do the same if I'm in her position so I don't really mind. Also, yes, she got a character development!

I also liked our ML, he was not OP but capable and always did his best to do anything that our FMC wants.

A lazy FMC x an understanding ML. I want someone like him for myself lol

I kinda got bored on the second half and almost give this novel a 4 star but fortunately the Author ended the story beautifully. So yeah, I like it! <<less

This novel is probably the best written apocalypse horror you can find on this platform.

It pictures pretty realistically (for the genre) how life would be after the death of 99% of the world's human population. There would be no water, electricity, the food would rot and the houses would be overrun by vegetation in no time.

The female and male leads are hilarious, their love develops slowly and believably. They saw each others at their worst, they know each other every little flaw, and still love each other.

And the ending is... more>> perfect for them, after humanity goes back to normalish life they stay true to their nature of "salted fishes" and live happily like that 😂 <<less

I accidentally found this while searching for another story and I'm glad I found this cause reading this was one of the best choices I've ever done. Some of the scenes made me cry and I love the balance between the comedy and the drama. The switch between the humor and drama is also well written. I also like how this is more lighthearted compared to other zombie stories out there where it's always a do or die situation every single chapter though the zombies here are pretty strong in... more>> the later chapters. At least here, we do get some fluffy scenes in between the hardships and FLs mentality is not really the "I want to survive", she just wants to enjoy her salted fish life before she die. The chemistry between the FL and ML is adorable, they tease each other a lot but they do show their soft sides when they're in a dangerous situation. I do recommend this story if you're into survival stories + comedy + romance. <<less

Not very funny, though tries to be. It's a slice of life in a zombie apocalypse. They do normal daily tasks and rarely experience anything interesting, then go back to their boring lives. I eventually skimmed through it to get to something interesting... very true to the slice of life tag.

It was really cute and fluffy <3

The interactions between the FL and ML were beautiful and I wish there was more.

And.. In fact, my first thought was that the ML was a regressor haha.. Idk why..

But anyway, coming back to the point. I loved it. It's wonderful. And I love how the MC doesn't gravitate from the original concept of a salted fish. :)

MC is really laid back in life while ML is our manly and very handy lover. They have a good compatibility with each other despite all their bickerings. Although I did not laugh in any of the scenes yet, but this is indeed comedy. Although I'm getting bored so I'll drop this for now.

1000/100. This novel is so good. Although the MC is really a salted fish and not a superpowered female lead, it was more realistic and her interaction with the ML is kind of funny. To all the people who saw this, do not hesitate to read it. It's worth it. Besides there's nothing wrong with taking risks, just try it out. You can drop it if it's not to your liking.

Well it is a very good story and the romance is very well written, I don’t know but later on the story became a little boring (?) probably it was just because it is not my cup of tea

This story basically just have 2 characters (the leads) and some animals who the leads adopted. Cannon fodders appear near chapter 50 probably.

If u like drama and a story that don’t focus just in the leads I would not recommend this novel

If u want a simple story about daily life in A... more>> zombie apocalyptic I would recommend this story, just like real life this novel the characters or zombies don’t have superpowers.

well if u just want to pass some time fell free to read this novel <<less

I'm a zombie apocalypse fanatic and I started this nivel thinking this was your average op MC and full of fluff. Boi was I wrong.

Pros :

The progress of MC as a person. I've grown attached to the MC. There's something about her that reminded me of myself. She not op and fragile, she's in despair but keep telling herself that everything is okay. Also, she worked hard to improve herself and know her own shortcomings.

The ML, he is different from other ML that I read. He actually helped MC becoming... more>> a better person. He cared about MC and they have a good understanding about eachother.

The pacing, oh god. The suspense and action is on point. The author could pull you into the story, it's not something a mediocore writer could do.

The story is good, the sypnosis isn't doing the novel a justice. My fav part is when MC and ML escaped to a small island and live the cottagecore life.

Cons :

I'm quite partial to this novel, partly because it's not easy to find a BG zombie apocalypse novel that could satisfy me this much. <<less
