Dong Jiahui, the daughter of the Dong family, was kicked out of the house by the Lu family because she had been married for three years and was unable to get pregnant. Dong Jiahui, who felt ashamed, jumped into the river in search of death. Immediately after she was rescued, her soul also changed.

The Dong family’s Jiahui was five miles away from the Shanghe Village. Zhao Donglin’s wife was an educated youth who left her two children to go back to the city. In order to take care of the children, Zhao Donglin, who was about to become a battalion commander, retired to the countryside.

“This damned little bit*h cried and shouted to marry us, to let her marry our Donglin. Now she doesn’t even care about her children and wants to go back to the city!”

For the six-month-old girl, Yingbao, Zhao Donglin wants to give his two children a stepmother. He refused the introduction of 17 or 18 people who were matched with him and finally chose the infertile Dong Jiahui. Zhao Donglin thought that since Dong Jiahui couldn’t have a baby, she would certainly treat Heidan and Yingbao as her own child.

He inquired and found out that Dong Jiahui was a woman with a submissive personality, and such a woman leads a stable life. As long as she treats the children well, he will treat her well for the rest of his life.

On the wedding night, Dong Jiahui finally discovered the secret of the original owner’s infertility. It turned out that she was still a v*rgin!

It was quite a relaxing read. Although there was a few mistakes here and there, translator was cute and worked hard to update often. I appreciated her/his hardwork so I even paid for the chapters which I usually don't do; I tend to give kofi rather.

anyways, about the book, it was interesting, a leisurely read. The ending was quite disappointing.

Spoiler

MC was good at business so I thought she'd become a business tycoon or something but nope, she ended up as a translator. Now, no matter how the author tries to glory the translating job like MC translates to foreigners and whatnot, it's still a freaking translating job. What about the business ideas and money making ventures she was so good at before? Also, ML was pretty useless. The author tried to make him appear smart and capable and all that but in the end, his younger brother, who used to be nowhere near competent as ML was, was much more accomplished

[collapse]

I like the interaction between the leads. I also like that the author doesn't spend a lot of time on the children being cute and whatnot. I don't really care how paper children are cute or not, just let the plot flow. Some novels spend so much on stuff like this. Overall, I really enjoyed it. Not the best novel but enjoyable. <<less

Loved it! I MTLed it so some details about time skips and the kids ages weren't clear, but a great slice-of-life read overall.

Gives you great insight into how sometimes family isn't always defined by blood. If someone loves you and cares for you like our FL did for her step-children, they are more than qualified for you to proudly call them your family <3

The only thing I didn't like
Spoiler

was how messy the second brother's marriage and divorce became. There was definitely a better way to handle the entire situation.

It's an easy read and fast Mel. The pilot is smooth and characters are not too one dimensional. It does get a little boring later on but not too bad.

One of my favorite novels that I keep re-reading! FL/ML are calm, loving, intelligent and family oriented FL’s family is decent, especially her mom. ML’s family is ok for the most part. I particularly love the sisterhood that developed between ML’s little sis and FL. The story isn’t flooded with crazy OP skills, revenge or the like. It’s steady step by step development by each individual’s efforts. FL advises and encourages her family and ML’s family so they all get pulled along with prosperity. No one really gets left behind.... more>> If you’re looking for a family oriented, step into prosperity kinda story, this is it! I highly recommend! <<less

Surprisingly laid back transmigration novel - the FL travels back in time and makes the best of it. Most conflicts are personal and handled quite wisely. Basically a whole lifetime of treat others fairly and don’t put up with any bs. Fun!

This was such a fun story, a typical reincarnation on the 70s but it has a reality to it that seems just right. We don't have an op FL just bc she is from the future and the relationships are well developed and balanced.

I just missed the encounter with her grandma from her first life, it would be very wholesome.

Consider this a lighter version of "Back to the Sixties: Farm, Get Wealthy & Raise the Cubs" but without the fantasy it has, I cannot say that I like it too much but I didn't dislike it. Overall is it a bit more realistic but at times boring too.

I would recommend it as it is a light read without any drama or s*upid characters (not many). The communication and love between the ML and the FL is praiseworthy. The ML respects the FL and tries to accommodate her as much... more>> as he can. We have to understand that this man belongs to the 70s and has gone through the which the FL as a modern person can't understand. Still, he tries and support her.

You can give it a try but if you have read "Back to the Sixties: Farm, Get Wealthy & Raise the Cubs" you will eventually start comparing both and will feel that this is a bit lacking. So choose wisely. <<less

Thanks for the hard work translating~ There is a few mistakes with things repeating a couple of times each chapter and the mix of pronouns but way better than other MTL's that don't even check their work.

I have to say this novel was like a 7/10, mid but it's decent to pass the time with very realistic No magic or powers just brains.

The MC she was ok She's a bit of a goody 2 shoes, but she says she's not so, the ML was ok for the time period. all... more>> the sexism about women treated objects and so on which irritated to me no end which probably would improve my rating if I was used to time pieces the. time pieces I read isn't as bad as this because they also focus on the supernatural, so I don't have to focus on it but now where that became the centerpiece it kind of irritated me LOL.

There was a few holes in the story and it thinks at the end I wish they touched upon which are

Spoiler

The grandmother that was mentioned in the beginning that taught her to sew she wanted to see her at that time She was making plans everything But it was never mentioned again LOL, And in the end I kind of wanted another extra chapter on how their kids turned out with when they were adults and if they had partners and what not that's just a little detail I wanted. I thought MC was going to be a big CEO like the first female that she was gonna make some big history changes since she knew everything but she just gave it to her brothers in law and I'm just like what...... and then she chose a hard working job that she had to be far away most of the time but whatever as long as the characters happy.

Honestly, I didn't like her passivity, where she's always following the customs, and I didn't like ML's more, who only thinks that MC should stay at home and take care of the kids.

I liked this novel. I just wish we got insight into the antagonists lives like the ex wife of the ML and his brother's ex wife too. Also did not care to read about the ML's sisters lives at all. Also I don't understand how the "second ML" fell for the FL. They barely met and he has the gall to say he loves her even knowing from the very beginning that she was married with kids. -_- BFFR. Also I'm not really a huge fan of the college trope.... more>> Like I know it's necessary for certain things, but I just don't care for it. But overall this was a really good read.

Spoiler

Also, dont @ me, but I hate that the son didn't call her mom until a long time later. Like it just bothered me a little. Like I understood it at first when he was like 4 years old and the ex aunt was in his ear telling him nonsense, but later on even with him being in school and incredibly smart he still didn't say anything. It just annoyed me that he was still calling her aunt even though she raised him up and taught him and his sister and even after she had a child of her own and still treated him just like her own. I feel like the author just wanted to make him a gloomy character for no reason at all. Every chance they got they would write about him being resentful because he wanted to be affectionate with everybody else but he dare not even though no one ever did anything wrong to him or ever made him feel unwanted like his no good mother who he barely even remembered anyway.

I thought about dropping the story about 1/3 the way through because I though it was slow with little development. However, the story picked up shortly after and became quite entertaining. It’s too bad the MC didn’t take more advantage of their future knowledge though, and I kind of wish the story didn’t end quite as quickly.

Honestly, this kinda got boring very quickly and nearly everyone's romance/life were more interesting to read about than our CP. Even the face slapped cannon fodders new lives after misencountering the MC were so fascinating. They learned a lesson, learned regret or just stewed in resentmemt. MC was honestly mary sue, and this book was supposed to be realistic, but it just kept getting plot wronged

I would say only 30% of the story focused on the relationship between the FL + ML. The rest was really the FL being a total badass and helping her family make money and I'm not really mad about that. Oh, but I am glad the extra covered a bit about Heidan, that was the real closure I wanted. XD

A more down-to-earth no-crazy-hacks time-slip slice of life.

The story is more or less streamlined, but I loved the light ups and downs.

Mild, but greatly interesting novel to keep you going if you're in the mood for it. (TL;DR: If you're looking for great stimulus and explosive love relationship, please look elsewhere)

... more>> No over-the-top cannonfoddery or limelight scenes, so def. more Josei orientated.

The antagonists are mere passersby in the protagonist's life, some annoying relative you can relate to maybe, or be it that 'one person' from a group of co-workers/friends/etc.

Akin to the darn popcorn kernel sitting on your molar for the entire duration of the movie levels of annoying if you're going to let it be annoying. It gives a good example of how to mentally handle people like that in your life.

Childcare overall was lacking but realistically written. None of the backward 'I care for mommy cause mommy is so silly' BS.

Am especially fond of the eldest son, who under given circumstances couldn't help but mature in some ways quicker than other children his age but maintained a different kind of innocence than his other siblings.

MC is an actual hardworking and caring person, more so than any other female protagonists centered around family stories so far.

Love the TLC she put into her family and how they reciprocate back.

(The MC was so caring to the point that it shows how half-assed other protagonists from other novels are about their families though, hahaha)

If we'd talk about cons, it would be the extreme speed of her adaptabilities to her new life in the 70ties, and the forceful virg*n image the author maintained for MC.

Obviously, it was mentioned in the summary but it still unnecessarily made divorced women not look as good as it probably should have.

The weird double standard of a divorced man is great if he got his life in order, but a divorced woman, regardless, is always a no-no.

When someone wants to pick on MC, they always focus on that, turning mostly a blind eye to the one-time divorced ML.
Spoiler

Mother-in-law had some extreme objection towards MC when ML first mentioned it.

Later on, he became more enthusiastic about her/more fond of her after finding out she was a virg*n. I'd rather have him and his family accept her as the situation had shown it.

About the ex-wife of ML; it's rather simple and all that's been mentioned has been already mentioned in the story so I don't find it necessary for her to come up and stir up too much trouble for the main couple and their children.

It definitely s**ked in her circumstances, but she just passed on the pain of betrayal to her kids, which leaves me with no sympathy for her. This wasn't meant to be a dramatic novel anyway so antagonists have more or less a sense of propriety. Brain-dead malicious cannon fodders are overused and unwelcome anyway.

You can say that ML's younger brother's ex-wife (first cannon fodder) was like that too, but she was merely too childish. Even if she'd pick a physical fight, she'd only to her birth sisters.

But on that note, hell yes to men in this story getting rid of their toxic wives.

PS: Translation was... ehhhhh, readable, but they definitely could do with an editor/proofreader. <<less

Very basic premise. ML transmigrated to the past. She did not really make any waves, except to handle the gossip well. Easily adjusted to the hardships of the 70s. Rather than a magical fantasy, it reads more like an idealized history of nostalgic modern China. Good people are hardworking and generous, wicked people have bad tongues and covetous. There is nothing overly dramatic about this story, think of it as a vehicle to show a snapshot of an ordinary family in 70s China in ideal conditions.

Similar to other chinese novels of this sort however it is solid.

The -1 score really comes from the fact that it was a bit hard to read in the beginning (maybe just me), there wasn't anything new (as usual, there are a million similar stories in chinese novels) however I cannot recall bullsh*t that rubbed me the wrong way either except I guess the ending which as usual for these types of novels felt lackluster, but atleast there is an ending.

so yeah a rating of 4 from this random reader.

It’s more of 3.5 for me. Like previous reviewers said, it’s fairly similar to other “work hard in the 1970 and get rich” cnovel. The only reason I put it at 3.5 is that I find the romance unbalanced. I feel the male lead is not up to par with the FL... he did doted on her and supported her dreams but he didn’t do anything beside defending her once in awhile... meanwhile the FL used all her wits knowledge of previous life to take care of her in-laws and... more>> step-children. Even the male lead succeeding in university has a lot to do with her. But the ML did treat her well.

there is not a lot of originality but the story is easy to read and interesting. <<less

The start of the novel it really slow when compare to other novel you would get pass the novel summary after 2-4 chapter but with this one it take at least 10s chapter before it get to the interesting part.

I also don't like how the ML characteristic change 180 degree from being some what cold and distance with the FL to suddenly being infatuated with her.

Like a worse version of Back to the Sixties: Farm, Get Wealthy & Raise the Cubs, which I really liked. This one feels like it just jumps around a lot, especially the later chapters where new characters are introduced by the dozens (like distant relatives etc) only to never be mentioned again. Most characters except the FML, ML and their closest relatives are barely characters and a lot of things just seem to happen without any payoff or anything. It started out pretty well, but then nothing really happened so... more>> it kinda ruins the start of it.

Also one of those novels that really makes you question Chinese culture, especially the communist parts, which isn't bad per say but it feels weird having it introduced as good. Everyone seems to agree that Maoist China was hell, while at the same time loving Mao. Gang of Four is such an obvious excuse for Chinese people to avoid blaming Mao himself that it almost becomes laughable. Maoist China seems to have produced some of the worst people to ever exist, constantly jealous of anyone doing well, blaming everyone but themselves. Guess that's what happens when you kill off everyone with a brain and letting lazy people ab*se the idea of everyone getting the same shares.

That said, some other reviewers views of the characters seems rather weird and I hope they never have children of their own if they think leaving the children behind in order to wear pretty dresses in the big city is an alright action to take just because the husband works a lot. <<less
