This is a very well written novel. Due to ab*se that MC suffered I want this to be revenge story instead. Probably his faults are being naive and trusting the wrong person.

Also, it is NOT mentioned that it involves r*pe. MC's past with the ML 😅 and I'm uncomfortable by it. Because I hate the hypocrisy of raping a person due to love. Well it's understandable since he's a demonic cultivator. Although they have good and sweet memories on "past" and "the current present", it is not enough to outweigh... more>> the emotional damage the MC experienced.

For the question on the review: ML's name in the past was changed on c64. To be exact it is not changed but he is called by his title.

Will continue reading... not sure. The MC is really damaged and tired emotionally.. Reading this makes me depressed so will halt <<less

I don't know what I expected. This novel is just not that entertaining.

Don't get me wrong, it's not bad. And I really appreciate authors that can come up with such detailed cultivation ancient novels and stuff, I'm aware it isn't the easiest genre to write. (Hence the 3 stars) Otherwise I don't find this that entertaining. I get the lust, but not the love.

The MC is sure he doesn't need anyone's help, so it's confusing when he keeps on getting out of situations by others' help. Almost all the time.

The... more>> MC also has strong "I'm so done with the world" vibes. It gets boring after a while; just jump off a cliff then or something bro!! We'll just have another character substitute you as the MC, no big deal.

Idk what to say about the ML. (Tbh honest I just dropped this novel so idk how it ends) But so far I atleast like the ML. However I like the side characters as well; I'm conflicted.

After being betrayed, misunderstood because of his masked face, burned and imprisoned by people he believed in, Ye Yunlan returns to the past, escapes the fire, saves people. But his cultivation is broken, leaving him suffering from disease.

What I take away from this novel, the elder brother, the former Dao companion, the master are just awful in this life and the last life.

Not one of them deserves salvation. And that doesn't change, when in this life, they act with kindness almost to the point of possessiveness. Ye Yunlan is broken,... more>> and wants only one thing: to live his life in peace.

Indeed, Yunlan is a character who only wants peace and quiet after being reborn, and lacks the will to live. But due to certain circumstances, his life takes a completely different turn.

He's a man of great beauty (which, because of some men, is a subject of admiration as well as jealousy), with quite significant depressive episodes.

As for Shen Shu. At the start of the novel, he is saved by Ye Yunlan, who takes him on as a disciple. He is a rather complex character who will be reprimanded for betraying his sect and sinking into the demonic path. But one thing he will never betray is his master Ye Yunlan. He's a rather dark character with a strong possessive streak towards Yunlan.

Ye Yunlan and Shen Shu's relationship is one of many lifetimes. Honestly, even if this relationship isn't exactly healthy, I find it interesting. I sense Shen Shu's possessive love growing with each page. He'll do anything for Yunlan, even to the point of sometimes losing himself) and Yunlan's affectionate love.

It's a novel that touched me deeply, made me cry and detest execrable characters. The author does an excellent job of building up the pressure and the darkness (Yunlan and Shen Shu are most affected by this, while the other characters are always portrayed as dark and negative, even if it means they are constantly hypocritical). <<less

Complete (100% read), Highly recommended! Reader Discretion Advised for: (multiple) Abusive relationships/dynamics & Suicidal Ideation. LISTEN! There are like 17 different identities/lives/amnesia plots, not even counting the Multilayered Multi-Generational Schemes AND the payoff is absolutely worth it. I was DESTROYED like a third of the way through and absolutely CRUSHED by the time I hit the endgame and honest to god, it was worth all of it. This is a novel you absolutely have to commit to reading all the way through cause there is setup in the first 10... more>> you don't get answers for until the LAST THREE CHAPTERS OKAY??? Save this novel for when you need to rant and rave to your nearest friend about how evil an author is or when you need to sob into your pillow for whatever reason. This is a story that breaks my heart so freaking good and has SUCH a satisfying resolution. Please give it a shot!

"Sick Beauty"? More like sick of hearing about the MC's beauty, lol.

This is just not my taste, so I'm not continuing beyond chapter 66. I got a bit tired of how predictable and repetitive it was for people to covet the MC. I get that the MC is beautiful and the author wants to convey that, but the writing makes it come off as if every single person would just simp for this guy immediately upon seeing him. Which sure, that's believable to some degree, but it wasn't really necessary... more>> to be written about that much. It really felt like the MC's beauty was mentioned every chapter, which got old fast. I also lost interest in the MC, as he's portrayed as the typical ephemeral master that's distant and yet empathetic. This type of MC is very common and has become rather lacklustre for me, as I've read many xianxia stories with this exact MC. If we were to measure MC's beauty using his personality rather than looks, he's really just average.

I think the saving grace of this story is that the MC (and ML's) backstory is really well-written, dramatic and touching. That's the one thing that is made me not want to drop this novel. But I dropped it anyway, lol. <<less

I was holding myself from writing review before I finish the story but I couldn't.

This story is remarkable among other cultivation/rebirth stories. Yes it has the Phoenix reincarnation MC and disaster/demon star reincarnation demon lord ML like many other stories. What makes this story different from other for me is the villain. I couldn't believe I found villain more interesting than ML.

So the villain isn't the half braindead, low morality, greedy (well not greedy for fame and material things at least) typical villain. He is despicable and I don't think... more>> much about him until the part where MC read the letter he left

which literally said "wife (MC was married to him in last life), I know you're coming so I scarify myself for something before you could kill me. In this way you would remember me forever." in more hateful wording.

I like to read this kind of twist character. He was trying to save the world in his way.

I'm half way through the story. I hope author will make me hate him in later chapter or else I'm gonna feel bad for him when the time for his fall come. His fall is gonna be so so bad considering most of MC's sufferings were caused by him. <<less

It was a very good read. Contrary to what someone said, I don't think the author talked too much about other perspectives of other characters? No matter what, they had their role and it was great to see either their development and downfall, and what took them to get there and everything.

The novel has a good writing. I saw some people saying that the MC isn't likeable due to how he acts, and I can kinda understand their point of view, but I still feel really sorry for any depressed... more>> friends/family members they might have. The MC suffered to hell and back, betrayed one time after another. Going back, he just wanted to live quietly. He didn't want to meddle in other issues, repeat the same mistakes.

Also, if the character is like this, a very active or comedy-voice writing would be so off. The "bland" writing-voice is naturally because the MC wasn't lively and happy-eppy-eppy. In other scenes, with other characters (like Elder Xue) we can clearly see the tone changing to fit them more. So yeah, I really love the writing of this novel.

Getting here, I must say the author does have the great ability of making us feel something. I was f-ing enraged with the scums of his past life, specially two of them (I won't name, but if you read, you'll be able to guess). My anger issues were flaring up sooooo bad. The whole time, I just wished I could put the MC under my wing and slap some faces. I cursed so much and with such variety that my ancestors might be ashamed of me on the other side. Or taking notes.

I would like to mention that the ML's state of mind is something to be thought of. Were I in his place, I'd have lost my mind too. Maybe just not like he did. Although I felt incredibly uncomfortable in the ab*se parts, wishing the MC had at least one person who would treat him really well all the way, considering the circumstances of everything and the sides of every character with their own lives and problems and wishes etc, this can hardly be expected. So my final thought on this was basically: "if the MC is ok with that, who am I to say anything." It's fiction, so let's not be so unreasonble- if you disagree with it all, do the opposite if the same comes to happen to you; also find a story more to your liking (and if you like dark stories like this but still without this ab*se thing, I'd strongly reccomend "Mistakenly saving the villain", I've already read it twice now).

The ML also went through a lot specially in his childhood and was chased and even slandered. I don't know how to use the "spoiler" thing here, so I won't talk much more.

All in all, a good read and it wasn't dragging at all. I've read it in only four days. It's definitely worth it giving it a try. <<less

After 2Ha I never wanted to read another angsty novel, but this one ended up capturing my interest, and good lord, the author here is very much the same type of sad*st as the author of the other book.

It's like when she started planning the story outline, she thought, "How can I torture my characters (and the readers) as much as possible?"

There is almost no joy to be gained from reading this book (unless you count the very ending), but it's more like 90% suffering, 9% neutrality, and 1% happiness.

The... more>> story did tug at my heartstrings, and for that I give it a 4/5 rating, but it's not a pleasant read. At all. It's not a story I would read again, nor a story I would recommend to others, unless you want to punish yourself or something. <<less

The ending was kind of underwhelming? So much fricking pain without release, I feel stuffed and frustrated. The story is written pretty well and the plot is super easy to follow. The whole story is in this melancholic oh so sad but still noble and gentle atmosphere, everything is sad and depressing and the "joy" in the story is still more painful that happy.

It got very repetitive hearing how much of a peerless beauty the MC was every other page, having every other character regardless of gender droll after him, be constantly interrupted in the middle of the story by abrupt flashbacks and having the other guys that likes him be constantly shoved down my throat. The story itself wasn’t very interesting and it started to drag so badly that I was skipping paragraphs out of sheer boredom. My issues with the story:

    1. Man, I get it, the MC is incredibly beautiful. Pale af smooth skin, smooth bony fingers, luscious black hair, cold smell where you just want to sniff all day everyday, eyes that are cold indifferent but bright, white neck, white everything. Oh, if you didn't notice already the MC is really beutiful, pale and smells good. Ok, sure describing MC in the first few chapters is acceptable, just to instill in our minds that he is indeed beautiful, but why is it that the same describing words are still regurgitated in every chapter now and then.
    1. It's my personal preference but I don't like the way how some flashbacks are structured. I know that the past is very important, but the way... more>> it is interspered throughout the chapters bothers me. Like, in the same chapter, the author will narrate what's currently happening, then suddenly there will be a flashback happening. I would've tolerated it if the flash back is a whole chapter or more as long as it is not fragmented like what the author did in some chapters.

          I really abhor MLs that are to obsessive to the point that they are so insecure that they want their lover just to be completely dependent to them. I want MLs that are clingy yet support the MCs in their endeavors while having their own lives. So far, ML is just completely obsessed with MC. This is just personal preference again. I already have an inkling on how the personality of the ML will be in the first few chapters but I thought that I would still like to give it a try in case it will be different.

I expected a novel about healing from ab*se, but what I got was... more ab*se. This was much heavier and darker than I was expecting. The translation isn't finished as I'm writing this review, so I'm hoping for a happy ending. Despite my expectations being subverted, I do recommend this novel. The characters are interesting and fleshed out, and even some of the scummy characters are able to redeem themselves just a bit.

It always bothered me how all those side characters in BL novels are only attracted to a MC or ML's face, as if that's all they're good for and act like their feelings are genuine. So, reading something like this is a nice change. To hell with all these shallow a**holes.

This was really hard to read. I usually don't mind the devastatingly attractive MC trope but this was really really overdone. The side characters had interesting backgrounds but were excessively brainless and I felt like the story itself was just really repetitive. I can usually turn my brain off for jealousy romance face slapping plots but this was honestly more aggravating than satisfying.

General thoughts: Please check this out! It is so good, trust.

This is honestly one of the best plots and all you questions will be answered with a satisfying bow. The only complaint I have are the characters.

The characters are honestly in a weird state of sometimes being really written and then being 2 dimensional paper people a second later. You don’t have to worry too much about that though since it didn’t really take any of the enjoyment out for me, just something I realized while writing this.

This was amazing. Incredibly complex characters to the point that I don't know who to cheer for anymore.

Is the past love more important than the current love??

Sometimes it feels like forced love (this was before the curse was solved), sometimes it's like the MC is just really having a hard time admitting his love because of the dao ethics aka master vs disciple cannnnnoooot be together (after the curse was solved).

MC felt like he was really tired. If I was in his position, I would have either just killed myself or just killed that bit*h RR first thing's first. Both CW and RR deserve death a million times.

So muchhhh potential but the author butchered this novel in the wrong way.

The side characters got so many unnecessary screentimes than ML. Like the whole chapter is 50% world building, 30% side characters and 20% main casts.

The author set up a lot of plot about the ancient clan but ended story abruptly without any explanation.

And what icked me the most is the fact that MC still don't know if he loves MC when we're 10 chapters away from the end. Like????

I read less than 3 chapters because in every paragraph is spent describing how 'beautiful' the MC is. The MC has less dimensions than paper. And I didn't find the character interesting. I'd recommend it to those who like angst. I can tell that this is a very angsty story from how they mention in every 3 paragraphs how sick he is.
