Gu Shishi, a master of traditional Chinese painting, transmigrated into the role of a cannon fodder in a cliché novel.

The cannon fodder female supporting character was switched at birth. She had barely spent a few days with her biological parents before she was tossed into the wolf’s den by those same parents. Her parents, having no heart to send their fake daughter with a heart disease to live a hard life, forced the real daughter into becoming the replacement. Gu Shishi was sent away to marry the big villain – the rumored evil, cruel, and wife-cursing first young master of the Huo’s.

On the very first day that she had transmigrated, she had to face her fated tragic death….

Luckily, she had also inadvertently discovered the path to altering her fate!

— The more gifts she received from the big villain, the longer she could live and the more cheats she would gain!

I mtled to the the ending and it was quite an interesting read.

Its a light hearted read, theres no political or deeper drama

There were good revenge and a satisfactory ending.

I feel like eating melon and eating dog food

Spoiler

FemMC pretty much disconnected from her biological mother, father and that twisted white lotus of a sister but she got pretty well with her maternal family and they were super nice and enthusiastic~

ML is also pretty much disconnected from his family too, his grandma, mother and 2nd brother arent aren in his eyes. When he finally realized it wasn't his fault and finally healed himself emotionally and mentally, he pretty much forgave? Them for abandoning him for how many years. BUT he pretty much doesnt see them as family anymore. Except for his younger sister huo chuchu that believes in him and didn't gave up on him through out the years.

Now your gonna say, dang they only have each other now?

Yup! Theyre a perfect match and theyre backed by other families that treat them as a real family member. Like the chen family. Gotto love grandma chen and the art association full of granpas and grandmas!

Those old people bless their eccentric hearts xD theyre better with using social media than me hahaha

Note they also have a super handsome baby that can appraise high quality things since 1 yr old?!?!? He is so smooth and cool at the side chapters when he helped his 'aunt' at a charity auction (hes 7 in this side story)

ML's lil sister, huo chuchu, also married to ML's doctor. Theyre common interests are eating melon together (exchanging gossips) and they hit off pretty well! They even had a baby girl in the end of the side story~~~

It was a very fun read.

Cons: The system was forgotten in the end. The "tragic ending" of the ML that was supposed to happen after 2 yrs was never explained. The white lotus fake sister didn't suffer enough. The female lead was cute and bubbly at the start but lost that charm in the end. She's still cute but not as cute as before.

MTL is a bit hard to understand. The system pop ups and explanations translate badly when using MTL. My advice, wait for translations since the system... more>> plays a big part of the story. <<less

A nice and sweet light novel with fluffy relationship between the main characters. Not overly dragged, no unnecessary drama - the story went on smoothly. I truly loved the system in this book. The concept of it was unique and the artistic approach was something I have not read before. I am a fan of gaming/levelling up/ weak to strong themes and even though this novel isn't any of that the system rewards after successful task or an upgrade gave me a similar rush I get when a character is... more>> getting new skills. <<less

The author's second novel that I read, and I think this might be the author's first novel? I'm not sure, just like it had its own ‘quirks’ and was far from perfect from the previous novel I read. This is what the author's early novels looked like.

Two novels I read, and I can believe that the author is a genius in creating his MC characters. Like it's always strong, tough, very beautiful, very OP, silly, yet fun...

However, it's a bit unfortunate that our ML character, Mr. Huo is too dark,... more>> his character is developed, but for me it's quite late, like almost halfway through the story, our ML only dares to bring their relationship to life.

A bit more intrigue than the author's other novels, yet it's still typical, sweet comedy, silly, fun drama, face slapping, and annoying cannon fodder 😭😂

Not perfect, yet it's worth enjoying. And the translator finished this novel very well. Thank you <<less

This novel was good, but...

to have every littel thing between FL and ML be becouse the system tasks is really... how to say, very bad?

Everything the FL do with or to ML is becouse of the system. There is no sincerity at all.

... more>> Get close to the ML, kiss him, hug him, take care of him, sleep with him, have s*x with him, even having children... All due to the system tasks, nothing is becouse she really want to do it with the ML.

The ML is sincery towards her, whither he got upset, happy, like, love, care, sad... etc. he is at least reall and sincery, unlike her.

Though it become better later on... <<less

One of my favorites on here.

This story is all about a woman with a system who gets her happy ending. Along the way, all the antagonists suffer from karma with nearly all of them having some manner of character growth. The Main antagonist gets her karmic retribution handed out repeatedly.

The MC, Gu Shishi, is a transmigrator who popped into the novel she read as the villainess who wants to marry the Original-ML. She arrives just as the original was about to jump out of a closet at the Original-ML but... more>> knew that was a path towards her own death so she chose to switch the plot and hook up with the Original-ML's older brother, the ML, instead. This prompts the system to begin giving her tasks to level up the affection with the ML and others. In exchange, she will increase her already impressive painting skills.

The ML, Huo Shishen, is the older brother of the Original-ML, and has been abandoned by his family as his mother (and grandmother) view him as a curse and the reason his father and grandfather died. He was abandoned by them pretty early in his life so he has ended up with some severe emotional scarring. At first, he decides to chase the MC away as all of his previous fiances have ended up dying, but he develops a rather major misunderstanding about her which prompts him to push their engagement along a lot faster. Cold and domineering, he is a bit EQ stunted with people but he is a business genius.

One thing about this novel is that both the MC and ML have shitty immediate families (ML does have an awesome sister, but she is just childish and rebellious at the first) who never saw much value in them. As the story progresses, we learn that the MC was found but looked nothing like a SGR girl so her father pushed her into the hands of the ML. Throughout the story, neither of her parents ever call her or look for her unless they need to do something based on what their adopted daughter wants (to the point that the mother didn't even realize the MC had changed her WeChat alias).

Spoiler

The mother and grandmother eventually realize they did something wrong but there was no turning back. It takes special paintings by the MC that make them face their grief and the utter failing of the Original-ML to realize that they had done the ML wrong. Of course, there is nothing they can do about it at that point because it had been so long since they abandoned the ML.

They especially realize it when the ML has a son and they aren't allowed near the child (they also make no effort to show up even though they want to). Instead, they pester the ML's sister for information but she doesn't really have any to give them.

[collapse]

The main antagonist of this is the adopted daughter who feels threatened by the MC. She does everything in her power to step on the other woman, even trying to keep her from being accepted by the other SGR girls. She is very much the typical white lotus kind of character with no redeeming qualities.

Spoiler

Her end is pretty entertaining even if it wasn't really enough.

From the beginning, she arranged things to make it seem like the MC is a terrible person. For example, the Antagonist set it up so that the MC would be sent to the ML without any clothes to fit her and then blamed it on the servant. Then she told everyone that the MC was the one who got the servant fired.

The icing on the cake is when she convinced her adoptive mother to give her all the shares from her adoptive father after they divorced and then demanded he give her the pharmaceutical company by threatening to turn in evidence of her father giving gifts (bribes) to officials.

In the end, she ends up getting conned and having to sell her company for cheap to the ML's company only to realize that it was the MC who was going to now own it.

[collapse]

The system doesn't really have as much of a personality in this as it does in other stories but it does help push the pair together. Plus it heightens the MC's ability to paint, even giving her nearly supernatural abilities. It was also nice with this story that the MC isn't good at everything. Painting is really her only skill (she does cook but she's just average about it).

While she never confides in the ML that she's not the original and it's never explained why she transmigrated (I'm guessing it's to save the ML but that's just me), the story was fairly enjoyable. Only weird part was their son being super capable of gauging the value of art goods. <<less

If you’re looking for an mid length, easy read with plenty of fluffy then this is definitely a novel for you. It has its comedic moments especially as MC tries to complete her assignments from the system. There is the typical drama from both families of the MC and ML, but mostly the Gu family’s fake daughter but everything is easily overcome and is never to drawn out.

The ML once he realises his feels is your typical possessive, wife loving CEO - cold to everyone but his wife.

Overall a gentle... more>> read and if your looking to avoid you typical love triangle, constant plots and surprise twists in your plot, then this is a novel worth trying.

Spoiler

Ok now onto my own personal opinion. I did find myself growing bored when the MC stopped receiving system assignments as that was were most of the comedy came from for me and kept the plot going forward.

This was also true for character development, I didn’t find that the MC or ML really grew as characters. Yes the ML over came his psychological issues but it came as more of a side note once the system stopped being active. As for the MC a lot of the art focus seemed to be missing and I had enjoyed the scenes of her streaming and the ‘gifting’ of her art became moot early on and was made completely redundant with the ML always buying it, which the MC found adorably but I found frustrating.

The whole reveal of the Ink Painting Guru was - anti climatic.

Her friendship and fondness for those around her seemed superficial and more like a chore to her than genuine care.

I did find the novel enjoyable but I wished that it went deeper into relationships outside her one with the ML. As the system was supposed to be based off the ML’s fondness and the fondness of others within his social circle.

OK. I need to start by saying that I liked this novel, I even started it with the intention of genuinely liking it, because I love novels in which the theme of money is very present and the synopsis seemed very interesting and relatively innovative.

However, a few things bothered me, and the relationship between the protagonists was one of them -... more>>
Spoiler

there was a moment when the ML (male protagonist) compared his secretary to Gu Shishi, thinking Gu Shishi was way above her, but that was in terms mainly in appearance. The main problem with this comparison is that pretty much all of the favorable traits he cited of Gu Shishi, she only has because she has a system that manufactured and gave those traits to her, and they are all beauty goals that are literally unattainable for a normal person (as NEVER having oily skin, pimples, blemishes and pores - which I recognize would be wonderful, but is literally impossible for anyone to have in the conditions the system has put you in). This made it seem like he would never have paid attention to her without the system making these modifications and that therefore he would never have really fallen in love with her unless she was artificially conditioned to meet all his standards, practically a doll. Aesthetically perfect.

[collapse]

Another thing that bothered me was his possessiveness, and I have to say that I LIKE a little bit of possessiveness in men, but that level already made me very upset.
Spoiler

There was a moment in the story when Gu Shishi was choosing her wedding dress, but he barred EVERYONE she liked because he thought she looked too pretty in them and didn't want anyone else to see her like that. He ended up buying the ones she wanted, in the next chapter, because he saw that she had even lost heart in choosing dresses and was upset, but it was still a scene that genuinely pissed me off.

[collapse]

Another thing that bothered me happened at the wedding party, but it wasn't because of the MC.

Spoiler

One of the halos the system gave the protagonist caused her to blush beautifully when she drank, but the side effect of this was that there was a high chance she would end up extremely drunk, to the point where she even had trouble walking. Behold, she takes a sip at her own wedding and this halo is activated against her will so that she can't enjoy the wedding party because she needs to go to her room and have her wedding night. It wasn't treated as a problem in the story and the protagonist herself wasn't too upset, but it was something that bothered me.

[collapse]

The story also has several unnecessary points. There was a moment when I skipped 2 chapters just to see if the story had already reached a certain point, and not only did it seem like it didn't get out of place, I was able to continue reading normally, because nothing important had happened in those chapters.

A few more things bothered me, like the various points of the story that were left unresolved and were even forgotten by the author, in addition to the misunderstandings but I don't want to spend all the characters available in just one review. Overall it was a fun story to read and good to pass the time, but it still let me down a little bit.

It was also quick to read, considering that I managed to finish it in two days, which is also a good point.

Sorry for any mistakes in English, this is not my native language and I used google translate to make my review in the language used on this site and a little easier to read. <<less

At the end of the day, system is really just not fun for me. The system here feels very intrusive, however at end of the day I'm not really that kind of person to read or even touch a system novel. Reading this system novel, I just keep thinking about the previous system novel that I have read - 100k Stand-in. Compare this novel to 100K, reading up to 200 chapters here and I feel like there is no distinct goals or ending that we are reaching to. The novel... more>> just feels like a slice of life with no interesting storylines. The beginning of the novel might have been fun but if you sit through 200 chapters like I did, going through the same thing and the same interaction over and over again, you would be bored out of your mind. Honestly this novel is a really forgettable novel. The female lead golden fingers a bit too much and there's really nothing standout for me here. Final verdict, if you have so much time on your hand or you are into this kind of web novel about system then I could recommend. But I reckon for the average readers this novel would definitely feel draggy. <<less

Honestly I just turned off my brain and enjoyed it. Of course there where iffy moments and I don't really believe they love each other but it was good.

  1. The FL just using him to live and he just find her pretty. ML keeps looking at her and even compared a secretary to her.
  2. Tbh the beginning of his like were because she got close to him when everyone else was afraid but his liking for her was mainly because of the system. It made the FL perfect for him and conveniently gave tasks that caused him to like her.
  3. He doesn't really even know her well. He described her as delicate and weak and thought she would be bullied but as we can all see the FL clearly fights back.
But anyways it... more>> was entertaining to read after I tried reading I Help the Richest Man Spend Money to Prevent Disasters because that one was way too slow and boring. It helped boost the 2/3 stars to a 4 <<less

So I like many readers liked this book in the beginning.

I thought the premise was nice if not a little generic, of MC (who's originally a cannon fodder in the book or world) meets ML (who is usually the villain or sometimes another cannon fodder) and they hit it off and live happily while everyone else who was supposed to be good in the original book are actually s*um bags. A very generic set in Modern China novel which I'm not mad about because I love these types of stories.... more>> It's a very sweet fluffy book where the MC and ML are in their own little world. And if not a little weird I liked the book at first. There are a couple of things I didn't like but could stand.

Spoiler

These are not in chronological order

1. Painting

How one of her main traits and one of the main things she was excited about (besides getting gifts to live) was the "upgrades" she got in her painting ability. I thought painting as her main thing was cool because in most of these stories it's usually acting or cooking. But the thing is after she got the ability to make people feel things when they look at her paintings (which I think is level 2 on this skill but I can't remember for sure and don't want to go find it), she didn't use her health points to upgrade the ability after that. And one of her main things is or should I say was was painting because they haven't talked about that in forever. Now all she's uses her points for is to upgrade her looks, which would be fine except for it's only that all the time now.

2. Going off of that some of the stuff she gets from the system like the bride halo: which I think basically made it so every time she turned it on she would act like it's their wedding night all over again (aka no experience in bed), basically her acting very inexperienced which isn't really bad but just made me feel a little weird. Especially since in like every chapter they don't forget to throw in how small she is "like ML took her small hand" or "ML patted her on her small head", like I get it you don't have to mention it every chapter. And the fact that they talk about childishly she dresses in regards to her night clothes which again isn't so much a problem but still it's weird.
3. Also going off her pajamas he doesn't want her dressing like that in the house in case other people see her. Fine I get it if you have people who work for you in the house you shouldn't be dressing inappropriately but like it's night time. And besides the butler you dismiss all the servants at night. This is supposed to be her house to and she should be able to dress how to she wants.
4. She's also supposed to have the ability to help with his insomnia with one of the abilities she got from the system. And she even said when she got this ability at first she was going to use it to help him sleep and she's only done it like 3 times and he still suffers from insomnia or did they just forget that plot point? Because even at one point he ask her to sleep with him on the couch because he thought it could help him sleep, so why after they got married he didn't want to sleep in the same room as her?
5. Marrying her because he thought she was depressed, sir get her some therapy if you think she's depressed. He just keeps throwing out mixed signals of he wants to be with her but also stay away from me.

5. His little sister which I like one of her main task was to get ML to get along better with his little sister. But mostly what she did was sit there while ML was rude to his little sister and tell her to leave. And the little sister is sitting there in awe because her brother is doing stuff he wouldn't normally do. And I get that it's his trauma and he's kinda nice to her even though he refuses to interact with her. I just don't think MC should've gotten points for that because besides the introduction she didn't do much

6. Her being drunk is the most annoying thing

7. The system getting more involved in her life. She is doing the most ridiculous (sometimes hard to understand pointless things) because the system is giving her more specific task instead of general ones like before. For example her having to do those 3 weird kisses, what was the point in making them that specific when ML didn't even realize 2 of them?

[collapse]

Save all the things I listed above the book is pretty good. Except when we got the wedding. I don't know if the book changed the author but from the wedding on wards it felt like a very different book to me. Just like a bunch of scenes they thought would be fun to throw together in a book and the plot while flowing is secondary.

'Example

Spoiler

During their wedding night she has to say no to him three times and then sleep with him like why? Also she was very drunk sounding the whole scene. I couldn't even enjoy their first night together because it felt so incredibly forced instead of natural. Also because of that SHE DIDN'T EVEN GET TO ENJOY HER WEDDING, I was looking forward to the wedding scene so much. And all I got was a disappointing 1-2 chapters about it. Like describe the venue, her dress, what they looked like at the altar, SOMETHING instead they just said they got married and then she gets drunk (which she didn't want) 2nd we move on the very awkward in my opinion first night (which they also didn't detail enough)

[collapse]

I will say what I did like about it and made me feel like it was back to original style was the face slapping scene when they came back from the wedding that was good. She definitely needed to say that and I'm glad it was there.

So overall it is a good and fluffy book and I am looking forward to more face slaps in the future also the two of them finally figuring out their in love, but it is getting hard to read. <<less

I also really liked when Huo Shishen revealed himself as the CEO of HQ or something and then Gu Wushuang tries to seduce him but fails. MUAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH

Fun to see her basically proving everyone wrong and being super low-key (Ink Painting Guru and the CEO of a beauty company?, sometimes I just wanted everyone to know how powerful she is.

I didn't really like how after she chose marriage, Huo Shishen proposed. It seems slightly unreasonable even if we are looking at it through his perspective and feels forced. The misunderstandings were so great, I think it would have been sweeter if Huo Shishen somehow realizes his feelings and proposed, not because of her 'sucidical' behavior

4.5 stars rounded to if it weren't for a few problems I'd like to give 7 stars out of 5

Let's start with the good points. This novel is hilarious. It hadme smiling and laughing until my face hurt. The MC is a gem, you just want to see what she and the ML get up to next. The ML is fantastic a real joy to read. The supporting characters are all very good or at above average. (Biological mother being the one exception but she's not around much)

Why it... more>> gets deductions

1 It's not completed and doesn't look like it ever will be. The last chapter ends in the middle of what looks like a new arc

2 Keeping track of who's who is painful. The names are all too similar and the author usually winds up with 5+ ways of referring to a character

3. The power of Chinese Ink Painting gets to be a bit much.

Despite the small flaws it's a must read <<less

I don't know why I like this one so much, but I'm on my way to reading it for the third time. I would say it is the typical face-slapping dogblood novel, but for some reason the face-slapping is particularly satisfying. The "cheats" the MC unlock during her adventure are pretty funny. The ML is a hardcore tsundere who says one thing and does the complete opposite sometimes only seconds later. It's objectively not the best novel but I find that I keep coming back to it.

This novel managed to get on my nerves just with the first few chapters.

1. The MC was inside the closet kneeling and when the ML opened that same closet, she fell right on his chest? Is he 4 feet tall that she managed to fall on his chest? Talk about the author being so desperate to create their perceived romantic coincedence.

2. The ML choked the brain dead MC and she almost suffocated and just because the same person covered her with his clothes a few minutes after (which I found... more>> appalling since she had been wearing his suit to begin so his action was redundant), she then claimed that he was nice after all.

This type of MC is the pushover and detestable type so I might as well drop it to avoid wasting time. <<less

A complain I have is that the System made the MC wayyyy to overpower, it literally made her perfect in the story, she never does wrong and its beautiful in every sense, also I felt that the romance between the MC and the ML was quite... dubious. The MC literally just has to act quite to obtain the money of the ML and continuos to do so all through their relationship, and the ML falls for her in grat part for misunderstanding.
