Gu Shishi, a master of traditional Chinese painting, transmigrated into the role of a cannon fodder in a cliché novel.

This serves as a pretty good example for a self-indulgent, Mary Sue work -- AH I'm not saying this sarcastically! LIKE, this novel is really that, and it's pretty good! It has hints of satire and lots of well-placed face-slapping, making it a very satisfying read. I wasn't expecting much because the summary was enough to make me feel anxious XD. In my mind, I was already conceptualizing a really unlikeable heroine. But, it turned out different from what I thought. She's definitely a Mary Sue, for her story was... more>> a fun one.

Summary: The FL, Gu Shishi, transmigrates into a modern-day novel with a "real vs fake daughter" focus. Her role was the real daughter of a wealthy family that had been raised far away. Said real daughter was picked up only after she had grown of age. Meanwhile, the white lotus fake daughter (who was the original protagonist of the original novel) had been living in the wealthy family this whole time, being doted on because she had a heart disease. When the FL trnsmigrated, it was after her real family had forced her into an engagement with the so-called, cursed first son of the Hou Family (the ML, Hou Shishen). She transmigrates with a SYSTEM, but that's more of a plot device to push the romance between her and the ML, who is struggling with insomnia and other psychological issues because of his horrible childhood.

Read this novel if you're looking for something fun and simple! I mean, as a modern day, it doesn't do anything completely out-there. In fact, it borrows a lot of elements from other similar stories. Which is why I call it self-indulgent. If one is looking for complex development or intricate settings and plot, this is not the place to look for it! Regardless, if it just so happens to hit the right mood for you, it's worth the try! I personally enjoyed it, and for that reason, I'm giving it a 3.85/5 star rating. This novel was very interesting. I liked the story, I really liked the MC, so I kept reading it; hoping in time Huo Sishen (ML) would somehow redeem himself. My patience ran out around chapter 300, and decided to drop this at 314.

The author formed a good story, good characters, but failed to add redeeming qualities/scenes to keep me reading the story.

ML is shown as a damaged/broken person. We are shown how he grows up, and understand why he is like he is. We are shown (not tell=props to the author) how he is not a bad person, and deserves our love, and pity. But then everything is told from the ML point of view, author did not spend a single thought on the pov of MC. Author formed the story as she is forced to be with him otherwise she dies, but then left it there. Why would anyone stay with a person like him unless they are forced? We had to receive some crumbs, some scenes to justify it, but for me, there were no such scenes.

ML is jaded, cold, and guarded. He treats everyone as enemy, out to get or trick him, after his money. But he literally has nothing else than money to offer. I felt author went so deep in writing him, that they could not find a way up, could not write a scene that shows he opens up, heals.

We are shown some scenes where he slowly starts trusting MC, but these scenes are ALL internal, nothing shows on the outside. MC has a system where she could see the numerical changes, and even then she was confused most of the time.

ML kept getting these fits of jealousy, fits of warm feeling, fits of anger.. And it all is internal. All others see are his cold, unfeeling face.

It is torture for everyone who stays with him. ML is written as childish, tsundere, but generally when you write a character like that you also include some bonuses, some pink. Here its all money. And the way he uses it is shown as unfeeling. Thinking from the side of MC, I honestly couldnt find 1 reason why she should stay with him if she is not forced (would not die if she leaves him)

This novel really portray that money can buy anything.

The novel I read use money to kill, to buy wife/husband, etc. This time it use to extend life.

Anyway, its fun to read if you don't put yourself into the novel. If you do, you won't like it because you will think that MC is not that smart.

I think its best to read just to pass time.

it's a nice novel. Nothing breaking trough but enjoyable and entraining. Some face sleeping, some dog food, just to pass the time. The couple it's very cute and they clearly care about each other and they have well round ending, also the secondary characters are very well developed and got their own motivations - except Chen Kexin, she was a complete cannon fodder.

tbh I don't found the beauty system too bad at all. I don't see any problem with "no hair loss" or "no body hair" "pretty eyes" "kissable lips" "good skin" "pretty eyebrows" "pretty when drunk" "smell like roses" we can get all these things with money and genetics. Besides she never changed her face shape or others characteristics. Same mechanics as using make up. It's not that bad.

Utter nonsense, s*upid, childish, potholes.

There are just too many things. The reason I give this on two is because it really made me smile at times. Some jokes and dialogues are good. But other than that, the plot and characters just makes me roll my eyes.

I don't know how people liked it but as someone who has read lots of fluff novels, this fluff wasn't that sweet. There were face slap after face slap through the entire story 🙄.

Of course this one is lacking common sense too. Well, many novels... more>> does so it was bearable. But honestly, I couldn't connect to the characters or plot.

Mc's character is questionable to me. Although author tried to show that the MC is independent and stuff but at the end she is relying on the system for her beauty and drawing skills. She looks more like hidden white lotus to me.

As for ml, at one side he berates his little brother to helping the villainess but at the other side he buys a company for FL to play with? OK I got it that you got money but is it necessary to berate others?

It's like “Your love is s*upidity, while my love is true love”

Around 80% of the novel, I find myself rolling my eyes, again and again.

I stickied till the end wanting the explanation about the system but after FL Got full lvl, the system suddenly disappeared without any explanation.

Also FL never told the ML about this transmigration. <<less

This novel genre was really like a junk food for me. I know those weren't healthy but I couldn't help to keep eating it because it was addictive. It could pretty much describe how I feel about this story. I know there will be many cliches and overused plots in this story but I still somehow enjoy it so much and even manage to finish it in 2 days.

Both MC and ML were a bit too good to be true because they're too perfect. Even when ML still had a... more>> phycological issue, he was already an elite whose assets was almost unparalleled. And of course he was super handsome too. One thing I like about him the most was the way he treated his son. Other ML from similar novels often got jealous over his own son because he took away most of his wife's attention. On the contrary, ML was a good father who doted on his son so much.

Another thing that I like was how the villain/villainess in this novel didn't always stay like that The author gave them a chance to repent themselves and many of them even became MC's best friends. This, of course, didn't include MC and ML's parents and Gu Wushuang.

Of course I still feel uncomfortable with several things in this novel, such as:

I don't like how MC's life span depended on ML's dottingness on her. It's kinda forcing MC to suck up to ML just to stay alive for another day.

I also don't like how the system rewared MC with superficial looks each time she was done with her quests because MC was already good enough but the author seemed to want to make her a more perfect woman by altering her looks again and again.

Rated it high cause I had fun with it, the FL genuinely funny, loved her and her art, the system was fun too.

But it is plagued by a lot of typical cnovel problems like flexing wealth till the point of being disgusted and some very conservative views and statements so if you are willing to eye roll past them as the usual then you can have fun with this one.

Surprisingly it’s good. I didn’t expect it to be this good when I started reading it. It’s good to waste time. The best thing in this novel is the Ml. The characters in the novel have good character development.

The FL has so many cheats. That makes me a little uncomfortable. Also, there’s a lot of unnecessary details.

If you don't really care about plot and just want fluff and a Mary Sue, then this one's good! I'd give it a 4.8/5 for fluff

1000% a Mary Sue

3.4/5 for the the generic plot. It's better than a lot of cliche novels, but it's not necessarily good novel. Just okay. Good start tho.

It's just like every single Chinese novels with a girl with an OP system and a cold, overbearing CEO. They also act like teens at times, not like an adult at all. (Or do teens just act like... more>> adults? Idk) But then again, that's what most ppl call 'fluff'. So up to you if it's a +1 or -1. <<less

So, where should I start first... Ok let's start with how I dropped this novel after I started MTLing it. I thought this novel would be pretty much okay for passing time. But I won't even recommend any1 for that! Because it's totally immoral. Idk how author justify that beauty is everything, with beautification weapons you can conquer everyone and everything you ever want to. I'm totally speechless, all characters are not right in the Head, remember I'm emphasising on the word HEAD from their actions to interactions all are... more>> ridiculous, specifically MC and ML. Nothing remarkable, even though I was reading this novel for just mere fun but it's not even able to pass that.

Overall this novel sending negative message imo. I get it all MC's actions were taken because her will to survive like any other normal being, which is normal but the author could have portrayed something else. Moreover, her drawing skills also recognised due to having cheats! Even thought the author has induced lines for MC having foundation in ink sketching beforehand. However it doesn't justify it that you need many life experiences plus practices over years to achieve that.

And, oh if anyone felt that I'm being petty towards MC having beautification cheats. Let me tell u all I'm hella motherfxcking sexy myself. And yes, it also mean I'm more shameless than the MC herself, as she was portrayed throughout the novel without having any specific personality. <<less

I really enjoyed the story for a while, but the most recent chapters (270 onwards) have completely turned me off. The main leads' relationship, which was progressing steadily up to this point, feels like it's been injected with steroids and the developments feel fake. Worst of all are the plot devices that the author had to use to make these sudden changed, because it's not natural at all. It honestly feels like the author got bored of the story and just wanted to hurry it up and finish it.

The ML had some minor misunderstandings about the FL's thoughts earlier in the story but it was ramped up to 100 and he now thinks she's suicidal and going to kill herself. And of course the only way to prevent this is to give her a romance worth living for (like what?)

The system, which up until this point had been more passive/setting tasks that she could achieve without looking like she was crazy, suddenly decides that setting a task of asking for three kisses on the lips, chest and cheek, and then three hugs (normal, princess-style and lying down being hugged from behind) all in SEVEN DAYS would be completely normal relationship progress between these two characters who haven't even held each other's hands.

At this point the FL doesn't even really have any feelings towards the ML beyond being his friend, feeling sorry for him and wanting his money to survive, which just makes it worse.

And while I'm at it, I might as well just add that I really dislike the trope where one party severely misunderstands the other causing them to feel pity and/or treat them in a different way. Like, it's funny to read, but it's hard to get behind the ML falling in love with the version of the FL in his head who is weak and needs help rather than the real FL who is capable and proactive. <<less

Wah this is nuutsss!

Love love love them!

ML's view of himself is just right, not exaggerated.

FL's character development is palpable but not forced.

Their love story unravels at a steady pace, it's the perfect pace IMO!

I have never have the patience to read contemporary transmigator/reincarnator story, but this one is GOLDEN.

I gave it 4 stars because it’s a light enjoyable read and I was pretty entertained by it. Very standard transmigration trope where og heroine is brain dead and misguided. FL manages to one up her at everything without really trying (she spends most of her time trying to earn ML affection, painting and gaining the recognition of others) I liked the romance and there were times I laughed pretty hard. I do think the body modifications from the system were a little extreme and by the end of it... more>> FL made me think of her as a dolphin with the lack of body hair and stretch marks etc. I think the plot depended too much on her earning ML affection in the sense that he was the only one who really changed by the end of the novel. In fact I think pretty much every character that went through positive growth in some way grew more than the FL which could be annoying for some but fortunately she wasn’t an annoying character to me and didn’t necessarily need to go through growth if that makes sense. I did like that the ML came to let go of his tragic past and embrace his future because how often do ML in Chinese novels change? FL has major heroine halo, and the book is shallow so it’s good for mindless entertainment but probably rage inducing if you think about too hard. Translation is very good and frequent but the translator does split chapters into 4-6 parts each so be warned. Mtl is easy and I don’t think I liked it enough to go and re read the translated chapters even though I’m sure I missed some stuff. Tldr- light read, FL is overpowered, og heroine is evil, shallow story but entertaining <<less

This is a novel that focuses on a girl named Gu shishi who owns a system that gives her life points whenever she completes a quest relating to Boss Huo. I recommend this for anymore who wants to escape their troubled life and enjoy some of the couple’s sweet moments. This is a really good novel for veterans and some beginners might also enjoy the interactions between Gu Shishi and Boss Huo. The 2nd FL and 2nd ML ended up being a bit brain dead, but I think it didn't really impact the story in negative way.

I really like MC character; she is not dense, brave enough, and also willing to work hard. She is also quite smart in using her reward from the system, which I really appreciate as it has been a pet peeve of mine when MC of different stories did not utilize their system to its full strength.
